The carpark had a major washout during the winter and is now half the size. The DoC sign is not propped up on a pile of dirt on the other side of the road.
I drove straight past here as I was just looking out for the DOC sign (which was no more). So my poor car (gutless 1.5L wagon) had to contend with crossing a wet ford and navigating through deep rutted puddles, mud and clay. On my return (having managed to not get stuck to my great relief), I stopped to investigate the case of the missing sign.
It had fallen into the stream. Cache lying beside the rushing water. I made a daring cache rescue operation, that even geo-dog wasn't brave enough to assist me with.
Cache is now safely tucked behind a post a couple of metres away from the original spot.

I forgot to bring my phone so when we stopped in thames for some shopping and eating, I installed a caching app on mr yodabeach's phone. Drove up this road with hope of going for a little walk but it was raining so we just stopped for this cache. The sign is only held in by one post, luckily it's the right one! Managed to find the cache without the hint (not familiar with the new app and didn't have info loaded properly). Tftc
Nice quick find before hiking up to Crosbies hut. TFTC Signed as G4 being our hiking group to Crosbies Hut - avoyager, Troutfly, Team Welsh and Kiwicouple.
This was the meeting place for Mr KiwiCouple, Trout-fly, avoyager and Mr Team Welsh. Had met TF and AV earlier on the road and Mr KC was already waiting for us. Found before they headed up to Crosbies Hut and Mrs TW travelled onto Coromandel Township. TFTC
I arrived at our meeting place about an hour earlier than intended this morning, having used a non-smart phone as my alarm without having changed the time settings for the end of daylight saving. Had just woken up from a nap when the others started arriving. Found this one, then Trout-fly, avoyager, Mr Team Welsh, and myself headed along the road towards the great unknown (and if we had have known, would we have??). Thanks for an easy one to start us off.
Used to come here in the sixty and stay at a packing crate Bach oh how the place has changed will be back for the trail TFTC
Wish we had had longer to explore this walk further. A lovely spot, though the stream is rapidly undermining the bank...the log is full but we squeezed in the last possible entry! TFTC
After a long break it was time to get out with the campervan and this was a nice walk to start with. We parked our campervan just in front of the fort and off for our first one which was in plain sight.
On an overnite to Crosbie's Hut with Ozzawazza, up the Te Puru Valley track & down the Waiomu track. Tumeke views on the top. My feet are happy to be released from 2 days of wet boots! Some absolutely tumeke Kauri up these tracks!TFTC
Last cache on our tramp up Te Puru and down Waiomu, whilst part of the track is boggy and part steep the bush is lovely, and the caches a bonus.
Easy find, dry cache, but lost pencil, have photos, thank you, really enjoyed the trip to Crosbies.
You couldn't get a park here on the way in, thankfully we knew of closer parking to the track, Just enough room for us to pull over on the way out.

Heading homeward, and stopped off for a bush walk. Parked here and found the cache before doing the walk. Afterwards had a paddle in the river upstream from the ford, and watched a pair of ducks acting crazy in, on, and under the water. TFTC.
This was a welcome walk between long parts of a very winding road trip. Thanks, J & G
Another weekend... Another mission... Gap (of Fap and Gap) and I are working on several challenges right now. Who needs sleep anyway... (It's overrated). By the end of today, we will record our longest caching day to date (21 hours); complete a circuit of Coromandel Peninsula; find lots of caches; cover a huge number of kilometers; and race against the heavy rain forecasted for the region...
An interesting late night drive brought us in here. There was a moments confusion over which hint object to search. But in darkness, Gap had this one sorted. TFTC.

On another road trip with Squirrel Nutcase to collect the 309 trail so thought we should pick up a few more caches as we passed. Started our adventure at 6am Saturdayy and back home 3am Sunday with 91 caches in hand. Best ever day caching or should I say day and a bit.
11pm - Once we had right sign was a quick find. SLTFTC

Last one of the walkway for us as we came from the other end. Had a couple of cars to wait out here that seemed to show up just when it was time to find the cache but no dramas otherwise.
Nice little spot and an easy find before heading back to civilisation and the promise of a cool beer not far from here. TFTC

On our way out to the main road for our taxis and a beer. Quick find. Saw a dog driving across the ford.

Found with alpenmilch80, evilno9, 11hpg11, KiwiLeon and Lemski (signed as "Tinkerbell and the Daywalkers") on the way down from Crosbies Hut.
A quick and easy find.
A car driven by a dog passed as as we found the cache!
Thanks!

The weather has cleared and therefore it is a great day for hiking and caching.
The next ones today day were the reason we did the Kauri track, not knowing that it is actually one of the famous tracks in the Coromandel.
This one was quickly found indeed close to the start and after we had crossed a fort with the car.
Thanks for the cache.

A nice quick find for a good start to what turned out to be a 25 km / 7 hour hike up past Crosbies Hut. I needed to get one right at the start and this was perfect.
The lower reaches of this track up to the kauri grove are relatively easy and quite stunningly beautiful. Except for two shallow fords (one for cars and one for peds a bit further up), new footbridges over the stream ensure that your feet stay dry. It's well worth the 2 hour return walk to the grove if you're not into mega-miles.
Cache is all good and dry. TFTC!

Cruising from Whitianga to Auckland. potentially a brutal ford! A quick find. Thanks for the hide
New Zealand 2103 trip for the Auckland Mega at Albany. Day 5, Miranda to Whitianga. I drove up to the start of the walk, but I did not take the time to go any further today. No problems here in the long grass. Thanks.

On the return journey from a weekend on the Coromandel. Thought we would establish where we need to park, to return visit to do the whole walk another day. Just started to rain as we got there so glad we weren't planning the walk. SL. TFTC.
GPS took us to the wrong sign. But once we double-checked it was easy!
Thanks for the cache!

Have been on this walk a few times, back bringing friends today. Nice quick find, TFTC.
We were keen to come up and have a look and think the walk looks very nice. Maybe next time we're here. TFTC.
On a road trip - we were interested in this one - to see this walk that starts from here - cache quickly in hand on this wet morning while Richard sits in the 'truck' and watches me scrambling about TFTC
Out and about for the day around the Firth of Thames and enjoying the weather, all in the company of the wonderful Mrs Dragon, managed to park nearby, find, sign and then went for a little walk to view the nearby tributory.

A bit of a jog to get Mr G going for the day, especially when he came to another ford which he removed his shoes for (eeekk white feet) before continuing to the cache. Nice quick find then back across the ford again. TFTC

This car park is become familiar now. I'm always tempted to just drive on through. T4TC - M@
The sixth blank logbook for the morning. The road continues for about 800m past this point and there is an area at the end where you can park, but unless you have 4wd, you will be there for some time if the grass is wet.
Out and about checking out the new caches while in the area. We made this our lunch stop after locating the cache. Thanks for sharing this great place TFTC.
