It was a beautiful winters day so kiwitrecker1 and I decided to stretch our legs a little. Great view from here... and I think kiwitrecker1 enjoyed the seat also. Cache in good order. TFTC!
Out with the wife today completing stage 3 of the Hillary Trail. Another great day of hiking throughout the Waitakere's! This stage has probably been my favourite so far - however a few more still to go!
A nice little resting spot on the hike up and i'd have to say this seat would be a plane spotters heaven!! so many coming overhead as i search, found and signed the log! Thats for the cache

Decided to start 2017 with a nice bush walk with a muggle friend. Rest a while, don't mind if I do, what a magnificent view, well worth the effort. Like these quick finds with a nice outlook. Thanks for making me make the effort. First cache for 2017.
Had a notification of a new cache cheekily placed atop a rather large hill not too far from where we had gathered for New Years ....Mr NZT was currently enroute to our current location, so we decided to wait for him to attempt the group FTF....ETA was only 15mins, but they seemed to go on for ever ..... Mr NZT arrived, unpacked, then back on the road to a suitable parking local.....
We thought we had a good plan in place to find the FTF which meant passing this cache on the way up the ridge....
Quickly located, signed in as SEAC to save logbook space, and back on the trail to the FTF..hopefully.
TFTC.

Mr HeMaLuDy, Mr Stik-a-crane, and Mr & Mrs NZTravellers headed up this way in search of a possible FTF further up. (At some stage Mrs NZT decided to leave the men to their FTF search and returned to the car). They stopped off and found a few other caches along the way, including this one. A good bush walk to gather the caches today.
The last day of 2016 and we were with friends at a new years camp at Huia, so took a drive out to the end of the road on the promise of a good walk to work off recent over indulgences and a recent cache publication and FTF opportunity. It was a sunny day and it was hot so we slowly made our way up to this cache and took in the view as well as some refreshments! Found the cache is good condition and most of the group continued upwards... TFTC and Happy New Year!
p.s. we also got the FTF!

I didn't need to rest awhile coming up the hill from Whatipu, but now I'm resting awhile heading back down, not so much because I'm tired but because it such a magnificent view! I soaked all that beauty in for a good 15 mins before I found the cache. Good hint here, easy find. Did some CITO to while I was at it.
Was nearby on a maintenance run for one of my caches, and whilst we were in the area we decided to come and walk part of the Gibbons track. Its been 40 years since I last did this walk, so the trees have grown a little since my last visit!
With merlot58 and supernanny, this was our first rest stop, nice of you to put a chair here Lovely views over the Manukau bar, a few white caps as its a bit breezy out here today. Thanks for the hide, and bringing us here.

Phew !!!! Nice to sit here momentarily ....by the time I reached the seat my walking companions were already signing the log !
Have walked this track earlier in year with Natural History Walking group ....but unable to cache that day !
Had to meet the bus in Karekare ....

I was out with Supernanny and RustyNZ for a nice walk to get away from this manic time of year. Whew, we certainly needed to rest a while after that walk up the hill! Thanks to the hint, it was a nice quick find.
First find for the day while out tramping. Always a good spot to admire the view.Tftc
So funny. After exploring the caves we hiked a little bit up the path to get a nicer view. After resting for almost half an hour, I checked the area for caches and were really surprised that we were sitting next to one
Beautiful view, absolutely worth it

After spending the night at the close by campground we decided to explore the area a little and maybe find some caches.
We sat here for a while and enjoyed the view before we remembered to check if there is a cache close by
Really great spot

One of those times you say "there's a cache just 270m away. Let's eat lunch there " and 20 minutes later you're 280 metres away. We have been up Gibb's track before so have only ourselves to blame. Did have an unbeatable view and comfy bench for lunch...! PINO TFTC
Got to this point just behind a group of Muggles so we had to wait a short time whilst they took their photos etc. No problem, it was a glorious day and we didn't mind the rest. Cache easily found and the log was nice and dry. TFTC
The first of our finds today on a 16km track circuit in the area. Glorious views on an amazing morning. Could easily see Mt Karioi to the south.Calm and so clear with bright blue sky and water.
A great day in the Waitaks today. The weather was great and the caching plentiful. However it took a turn for the worse in the afternoon when one of our party had a hiking accident requiring a very long wait at A&E, x-rays and stitches!
Out with Nigel Barnes 11 to do day two of the Hillary trail! Quick find by nb. Previously found by me. All good here
On Easter weekend this year I'd passed through here with the family for a camping trip with geocaching on the way. This was a wonderful spot to take in the view and rest a while. My saved offline map assured me there was no cache here despite this being the perfect place for one. Well to my surprise, with a new prepared offline map a cache was shown on my map for this spot. Today's journey was a cache maintenance journey with lochnessmonsta and the CO.

in the area changing out wet logs and checking on caches.. exactly where it should be.. new log in - no log bag required now
Starting off on a nice tramp in the valley, with caches to find. After almost sinking in the swamp before starting the track..was glad to make it to see the view still with dry feet arrived at gz with onewheelfamily (miss and mrs) and I admiring the beautiful view. What a nice place to find a cache, thanks!
I decided I needed to get out for a hike. I grabbed my full pack just to make it interesting and started at Whatipu. It was a beautiful but cold winter morning. I climb up the hill first thing was exhausting so i did just what the cache suggested and had a rest looking at the view. I had to reset my GPS on the way though because it had an accuracy of 40 metres to start with. Quick find at the GZ and off to the next one. TFTC
Mallorcatommy and I were travelling through the northern island of New Zealand. What an amazing, breath-taking landscape! On our way we did some nice walks, enjoyed ourselves and found great geocaches. Thanks to all owners for nice hiding spots... We wouldn't have been to a few places without these little boxes!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
Cats&Dragons thought it would be a good idea to collect the earthcaches in the area... I thought I was good to add this hill into the climb. One of us was wrong as this turned into a very long day in the hot sun.
The caches themselves were great with amazing views of the coast and mountain but the physical effort took its toll on this body.
Cache was quickly found and in good condition.

Well this was a Bl##dy early mission as we were trying to keep out of the heat of the day but had a 2hr drive before we even started.
Out and about with Novalightning for a days caching along a coast that neither of us had explored before. I had suggested that we stick to the coast and make our way north, he suggested that we take Gibbons Track north as how had can it be, Year Right. And he was for the first 6 or 7 caches.
This was the first of the day for us and after a walk up from the Whatipu car park this was a great spot to get a higher vista of what would be waiting for us further along.
With the use of the hint the cache was quickly located, the views admired and we were off to the next
thanks for the placement

Out for an enjoyable hike today around a few tracks in the Whatipu area, together with the CO and a group of muggles. Getting towards the end of the day now and this was to be the last cache. A nice easy find here, while the CO felt the need to hide in the grass?! TFTC!
First geocache of our hike today and after the first incline we needed a rest to find the geocache (me) and everybody else taking pictures. TFTC

kept going missing at the old location so new container, new location just up the hill:-) and much more to see... FTF original location paul taps... who will be the next FTF
Wandering through the areas today, with Vistra - seems this one has gone missing - since my last visit - unable to find it the proper location... pending replacement.
Nice quick find on the way up the hill. Heavy rain overnight, but flooded stream had dropped noticeably on my way back.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
Daddy daughter camping trip with the 6yo. The walk up to this cache and the viewpoint just past it was one of the highlights - not sure that the 6yo would have been able to go much further up hill though! Thanks for bringing us up here. TFTC
First one today on a trip up and over gibbons to Pararaha for an overnight camp. Hot out of the wind! Thanks.
Brilliant views along the coast on the walk up the hill. Perfect day to be out although I have never seen the bush so dry, the kawa kawa leaves and whiteywood foliage was wilted and limp. The decoded clue was useful for this one.
Checked with council and (as also on website is stated) Dogs are allowed on the gibbons and muir track!!! Altough you need to pass a "no dogs" sign. Dogs are allowed on the track..confirmed by the council and other locals.
So we enjoyed a great walk and followed a trail of caches on the Gibbons track. I do think that a 2star for this track is way underrated, knowing that a 2star is used in urban area's for a couple of steps...
pff this was more of a challenge, going up and up.
For this cache we followed our GPS...but the cache was on the other side of the track. Thanks

Day 2 of the great geocaching adventure with Tracit - actually we were playing the part of the missing party for a Search and Rescue Exercise so set off to capture as many caches as we could. Quick find and on our way towards the Pararaha. TFTC
First find of the day. We overshot the cache as we ploughed on up the hill to take in the view. However we were determined to test the GPS we are learning to use and doubled back to find it. We are slow walkers enjoying shorter strolls rather

Found this one with Kiwileon and team from the Whatipu Event. It was a pretty easy find, and I was grateful for the chance to catch a breath!
Last minute change in our plans gave us the opportunity to attend the event but as we were too late to join up with the official cache tour party we decided to complete our own private tour.
Met some new caching faces near GZ after which we made the find and continued on our way TFTC.

Cache #1 found in a group of nine led by KiwiLeon during the Waitangi at Whatipu event. The first of many more to come! Thanks!
Did the walk as part of our Whatipu event.
Nice walk up and along the ridge.
No problem finding the cache with 9 GPSrs.

Found on our walk from Whatipu to Pararaha Valley via Gibbons and Muir Tracks with Kiwileon, Mike-miss, Little Red Hood, Jacksonz, Arachnaphobe and Slieschke. Had a great time and loved the views from the various vantage points along the clifftops. Cheers.
Stopped here first with the group as part of the Waitangi Campout walk via Gibbons/Muir/Pararaha Stream/Beach loop. Nice quick and easy find here before continuing on our journey. TFTC!
Master & Mr Jacksonz were amongst the party of 9 that headed off to do Option 1 &/ 2 as part of the Waitangi at Whatipu - BBQ & Campout (GC41D7Z). I was somewhat towards the back of the party as it stopped on the track here, with the announcement that it was somewhere around here. I simply reached out and plucked it from its hidey-hole. Stretch borrowed my pencil to sign the log, and left it in the cache, thinking that that was where it had come from.
With the party attending the Waitangi at Whatipu event. I'm not the fartest on hills so was already beginning to feel the strain withthe speed the KiwiLeon set out at, so very thankful for this cache to catch my breath (and we've only just started ) TFTC
Re dogs, Glad it works for you:-)
Like all signs placed by authority i just tend to take them at face value... just like stop signs.. ( "its ok officer all the locals said run it")

I decided a few days ago that I would set out on an expedition to visit a few caches in the bottom left corner of the Waitakere Ranges today. I brought my own stick along with me this morning. I continued on a bit as suggested and admired the view.
Cheers for the cache.

Went out for a walk and explore around Whatipu area, never been out there before. The family enjoyed the walk around the beach area, then we headed up the hill to have lunch with a view. After a quick bite took the kids with me to search for the cache. Didn't take us long and we were back to finish our lunch. Very nice spot, great view. Definitely be back and will go further a field next time.
After cancelling on the hike by evilno9 yesterday due to some last minute family requirements, I manage to get the family out this way as my brain and body was in the hiking mode because I had been preparing for yesterdays walk since beginning of the week.
Anyways out here today with the full sun and no clouds. We made our way slowly to the track and soon on it with baby snakelion in the "Kangaroo bag". After getting to the cache location, and signing the log sheet. Cool hiding...I think baby snakelion was tried of being in the bag and wanted to walk herself...humm so we decided to head back to the picnic area by the carpark for her entertainment instead of her guiding us to the next cache on that track. Once there I left the two ladies to enjoy and headed up to the next nearest cache.

Darby aka Ted decided we would go to Whatipu today for a change of scenery. When we spied this cache placed by our caching buddies, we thought we had better do it.... Our first find of your caches,.... but oh my ... huh "Choose your stick" I think I'd prefer to choose a chairlift... what no chairlift, just old fashioned huff and puff up that darn track. Has Mrs Alligatorsnz really been up here??? will compare notes later. We found the cache quickly enough and really we weren't keen on walking further up but really forced ourselves to get to the top. Phew... have a few pics to add to prove we really did get there. Magnificent views. Thanks for bringing us here, but have to say we are all out of puff now for much else out here. SL. TFTC.
Bit of mud on the flat but not too bad after the rain. Nice spot & nice views. A morepork started up close by which was unusual since it was 3pm on a brilliantly sunny spring day. Thanks for bringing me here - cache is kinda small considering the walk to get there and the number of hiding spots - would have liked to have dropped some TB's if possible. TFTC

Take my hat off to Paultaps for managing to find it with the published coords, don't think I would have ever searched so wide. Anyway with Paultaps coords went straight to the cache, which is on one of our favorite Waitakere tracks, which combined with the Parahaha valley and a long beach walk makes a great loop walk.

hey all - surprised at your coordinate problems - took my fix at the GZ with a 2 min way point average with good reception and accuracy of 1m. And later navigated back to the spot from 100m? Will check coord. next time i am out that way early August.
Despite doctors orders to stay put for a far too long period of time, decided to team up with evilno9 and head out this way for what we hoped wasn't a too strenuous walk. Luckily we bumped into some fellow cachers, who without their help, we would have struggled to find the cache, but with the new co-ordinates loaded we slowly headed up the hill. Nice afternoon for a stroll, and felt pretty good. After a bit of a dig around soon had the find in hand. Definitely good work to Paultaps for finding it without the right co-ords! That must have been a mission. Thanks for cache!!
Very quick find after meeting with Paultaps at a near by cache and getting the correct co-ords.
Walked the track lots of times over the years. Good views from near by.

After a good month of not being able to walk very well due to injury, decided that today's rehab was going to involved a wander through the waitaks. With the also injured mel_ramsay in tow we headed off with the intention of grabbing this one and leaving the other new one for later when we're both a bit more capable again. Luckily we ran into willbuild on the way to the track as he was able to give us the coordinates he'd got from paultaps. No problems with the track all things considered and a nice way to end the day. Enjoyed the views for a while then headed back. TFTC
It took me ages to find this one, but I got the FTF in the end! Initially I gave up after about 15 min searching at the published coorids, then moved on to the next cache realising that it was probably behind me and down the hill. I figured I’d catch it on the way back down to Whatipu. I had to rely on the description, the hint and heaps of intuition to find it. The published coordinates put me about 225 m off GZ. The ones I got at GZ were 37º 2.293’ S, 174º 30.113’. The trail up from Whatipu was in quite good condition. I was expecting heaps more mud, but I’m not complaining. The sea views are remarkable an well worth it.
