Finally get to Tick this one off as this is one if out favorite camp spots, but every time we have been here in the last few years we have either run out of time, or it was to hot to venture into the gully. So this year, we set up camp and accompanied with a few geo curious friends, we set off to finally get this one and explain the finer points of caching to our friends and a great example of what caching is all about and the places it can take you. Tftc
While in Dargo travelled up here to tick another thing of my bucket list. TFTC while here. Done back in January sorry for late log GJ.
This was a great drive down into the valley after attempting the last cache but did not make it all the way due to overgrown tracks. We had scared a poor young lady when coming out of the track we were on hidden on her left.
It was a truly 4WD track into here after few km which were pretty good, then it turned a little rough. IN all it was worth the drive down here to see the beautiful serein camping ground and the meandering creek bed just slowly taking its way along minding its own business.
Thanks for bring us down to this great little spot to show us this amazing piece of history...
Thanks again for this series LilDonna and My Chauffer...

I was out and about with a mate Scottie just cruising a few tracks and making sure the priority was the campfire and seeing new spots.
Before we left i looked at a couple caches but clearly didnt plan very well because when i got here i hadnt saved it offline lol.
I did manage however to hunt and Sniff it out !!
I kept saying '1 more spot' and then ill call it ...
In the end i was PUMPED to find it especially given the decent container .
I havnt ever been down here so it was a ripper cache to get this trip.

Stopped in Talbotville out from Wonnangatta. Took the kids for a search while tyres are being inflated again. Great find - thanks!
Hanging out with the cool kids up in the high country for a few days. Great to explore this area and imagine what life would have been like living here in the early days. Thanks for bringing me to such a picturesque and peaceful location.
Thanks Biggles Bear for placing this cache.
Thanks Biggles Bear for placing this cache.
Great place to highlight. Enjoying the time off work after a crazy busy year and being out exploring this beautiful part of the world with friends
Found with Aysen, Pacman and Anikano on a sunny summers morning. Only one caravan down at Talbotville. Have been here once before but didn't have time to stop for the cache, was great to get out today, stretch the legs and find it. Thanks Biggles for putting out this cache once upon a time.
Finally got up here to claim this one. Nice and easy find with a short walk. TFTC
After a quick cemetery visit (an isolated place to rest eternally), a nice up and down stroll soon had cache in hand. TFTC
Lots of Guys in here. Harsh condition back in the early 1900s. Testimony and respect to these families.

Now this is an *old cache!* Almost as old as some of the residents in the nearby cemetery!
We had been to Talbotville for a day visit about 12 months ago while spending a few quiet days camping at Italian Flat just out of Dargo however didn't have time back then to search for the cache as we had planned a rather long 4x4 trip for that day (Crooked River Track to Kingswell Bridge, Wonnangatta Rd/Hernes Spur Track/ Cynthia Range Track/Station Track/Racecourse Track etc etc.) Anyway this time we were camping at Talbotville so took the opportunity to look for this cache. It was a bit of a challenge to get to because of the spikey Acacia bushes (I think) the dominated the gully however after a bit of colourful language to aid my passage though these prickly bushes the cache was soon found.
I reckon this one should become one of my favourites because of the location (Talbotville) and probably more so because of its age - a little over 16 years old!

Found with Beaker on a week-long 4wd trip through the high country. Highlights included walking to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, sunset from the top of Mt Pinnibar, seeing an Eastern Water Dragon in the Crooked River and having the living daylights scared out of us by a deer at Wonnangatta! Along the way we rescued a bushwalker from a 7km limp with a sprained ankle, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, saw many huts and beautiful scenery, did some excellent 4wd tracks and some great caches. Thanks
Found with FerociousFlea while on our 8 day 4WD sojourn through the the High Country. We were collecting caches that we liked the look of as we went along.
The cache should really be attempted in long pants and long sleeves, not shorts, keens and t-shirt. Despite being massacred by prickly plants, we still managed to locate the cache.

Found while on a camping trip in the Wonnagatta valley. I didn't realise that saving caches to a list on the new Geocaching app (can't say I'm a fan!) doesn't actually save them offline, so with no mobile coverage I had just a set of coordinates to go on. I thought it would be close to the Talbotville cemetery, but it needed a fair bit of bush bashing in prickly scrub to get to. Nevertheless, enjoyed the find. TFTC
Heading off on a weeks holiday in the High Country and an overnight stop in Dargo planned. We stopped and collected some caches along the road as we head through the area.
A nice easy find here, so thanks BettyBoo3747 for the placement.

Took my Mum on her first cache hunt (Scrappy_1). Bashed through lots of prickly plants, left Mum and geokid behind whilst I located it then went back to find them. Still had fun finding this one. TFTC.
Omg what a climb. Very prickly plants everywhere. I went with Psyco_scissors who is my daughter. This is my very first cache. Woo! TFTC.
This cache was one of many that I planned to seek out over the long weekend.
Unfortunately, vehicle mishaps altered our plans significantly and this was all I found.
You get an incredible sense of history while hunting around for this one.
Thanks Biggles Bear.

Tftc! Good hike up to gz! We have been coming to this area for 12 years but have just started caching so was excited to see one in one of our fav camping spots!
We had a great time camping nearby and grabbed this one on the way out. Thankfully they had just done a backburn so the bush was fairly clear to get there.
I fought my way through the gully to get to the cache, and on the way out found a much easier path. We camped at Talbotville for a few days and did some fantastic driving through the local area. The weather we encountered changed with what seemed like every hour with one night hot and another freezing cold, lots of wind, some brilliant sunshine and even some rain. We decided to leave a day early to make sure we got out of the climb before it was too wet and hopefully before we had to deal with too many people coming down the narrow decent as we were climbing. Great spot, would love to go back. cheers. MODU.
Out in the Grant Historic Area with Clever Monkey and Day1976 on a mission. It was a looooooong day!

Thanks to Clever Monkey for the maintenance. This cache is now in good condition again.
Found this one on a grand Adventure with Cleven Monkey and Jamin Appleford. Cache container had seen better days, but the log inside was useable and most of the SWAG was in ok condition. Quick container upgrade and we were on our way. Thanks Biggles Bear, you take me to some interesting locations.
This cache was one of my missions for today and with a team assembled for some fun caching in the Grant Historic area for the day. Ben arrived at my place at 6am and we headed South to pick up Day from Emerald and then on to Dargo for a refuel of food and fuel before entering the gold area to hunt for unloved and probably lost caches. With prospecting licences at hand we searched for hours for a cache further up the hill before deeming it lost to the earth and heading down to this one.
Having read the cache pages in advance I knew this one needed a bit of TLC so I packed an ammo can + 2l Sistema pak for the job. The cache was found after a short easy walk with the exception of my grabbing a handful of spiky tree as i lost footing in the gully. After which I think I needed a bit of TLC . I had brought a full kit of gear to get this one back on it's feet so went about deciding what was salvageable and what was not. The container itself was cracked tapped and due for retirement however the logbook was in good order so we kept it and anything that was cool as swaps to transfer into the new container.
Aussie Jack the TB has ben with me way to long and as a survivor of the 2009 fires was finally set free. He has been sitting in a tub of rust proofing for 4 years to get the black off the outside so you can read the tracking number. I think it's readable so I set him free.
Thanks Biggles Bear for another reason to get us down into this great area. Everyone remarked at how good a spot it was and that another trip with overnight camping is in the planning.

Fun find. 1/1/15 The cach was in a bad way. We removed the cach so we can let it all dry. We fixed the cracked lid with gaffa tape and replaced the water filled ziplock bag. It was all put back within 2 hours.
Wear long pants. It's prickly.
Current contents are: tennis ball, chef button, orange ballon, 2 hands, a toy machine gun, key ring pen, wrangler Jean pocket and Geelong Cats footy card. Taken was toy car

Found, but the cache needs attention. Entire contents excluding long book is wet. Lid is damaged so I turned upsidedown to help
While at a motorcycle rally at Talbotville, the weather was just perfect for cache hunting. With a friend's family, we walked to the cemetery and eventually arrived at GZ, where one of the kids made the important discovery. Thanks for hiding the cache for us.

Wow what a wonderful find. Am really happy to log this one as found as it was under very trying conditions. Hubby dropped me near the cemetery gate in the drizzling rain and I walked off ever so confidant that I would find him camped on the flat after I had found the cache. lol By the time I struggled through the bush and found the cache, I was wet, scratched and just a wee tired. I quickly signed the log, returned it to its hidey hole and started back down the hill. Should have marked the car or cemetery at least as home, as it would have been easier to track back. No worries I eventually wandered down to the flay to discover hubby waiting as they had been advised of some rowdy residents and the group had decided to move on further down the river. Twas all worth it though. Thanks Biggles Bear - still feel bad about not sending you a decent post card at Woof Woof - will try to rectify the situation in the next month! TNLN SL TFTC
Found it after a while, I only found it when I was about to give up. Good fun but the spikey bushes hurt a lot.
Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of mainland Australia.

Sun shining, beautiful spring day - time for a spot of fishing. Stopped on the way down to Talbotville to grab this. The acacia is really prickly at present, but found GZ with minimal problem. Extracted cache. Having read the previous logs, came prepared and replaced cache container. Log and contents are dry and OK. TNLN. SL and replaced cache. Battled my way through the acacia back to geo-nellie and proceeded to the river. No fish though!!!

270513 1300 An easy find here on the way to Howitville. A quick run past the cemetery and through the gully. One of the blokes from the group followed me to see what I was up to. I stopped where the GPSR said 1m and looked around to. It only took me a few seconds to find the cache. The lid is broken and really needs to be replaced. I tried to cover it so if it rains it may not get wet.

Found with Bluejay40. Nice little hike to find it. Lovely countryside! All in good condition. First for many planned today.
Wandered up from the campsite to do this at dusk while wearing sandals.
It proved to be a fairly prickly trip from this direction, especially negotiating the gully. (I had been expecting something a bit closer to the cemetery - just shows I should rad the description more carefully!). TFTC.

Coming down McMillans Track I kept hoping that we were not going meet anybody coming up - we didn't, thankfully. The cache was quickly found whilst trying to avoid the prickles. The cache was in good condition and being guarded by a huge huntsman spider. TNLN SL TFTC Biggles Bear. Now for the trip back... which way? The route along the Crooked River was too much of a challenge for our 4WD and our limited experience, the sky was threatening after we had made two crosses of the river and worse to come. The river was wide and fast flowing so we turned back to once again climb McMillans Track after first trying to take a short cut. A steep climb and learing experience for us today.
We need to team up with others to do these type of caches.

LOTS of prickles!!! Nice little hike, glad we wore decent shoes...I suspect not many muggles would find this one! (except my sister, muggle jess who was with us) TNLN
Picked this one up following a nights camp at the Talbotville ground in the company of theChops and Lostmonster & Co.
We pushed our way through the scratchy prickly bushes before finding the cache in a fairly obvious location without difficulty.
Very interesting what you see in areas of bush like this, and hard to imagine that this place was once a small township.
TNLN, thanks for placing the cache in an interesting area. Cheers.

After pulling out of the Tabotville camp site at around 10am this morning this was the first on the list.
We had quick walk in to the prickles, with Al from the Chops looking on as he had all ready found this on, he didnt tell us about the prickles.
Anyway soon after we had the stash in hand and the log was signed by all.
Many thanks Biggles Bear for the hide.....TNLNSL.

We'd already found this cache, but were camping in Talbotville on a weekends 4WDing/caching. The other cachers (DJ Rascal & Lostmonster) hadn't collected this one, so after breaking camp, this was the first on the list.
Our very first cache find! No swaps. Took a while in the rain! TFTC. (found on 23rd Jan)
After a bit of bush bashing the Geo kiddies complained of the prickly trees scratching their arms so left them in the gully with Geo granny while I went and found it. The inside was wet so I dried it out best I could. Took Jeep travel bug and the 2007 Geo coin, since it is holiday time I'm sure we will be doing some more geocachers and be able to place them somewhere else. TFTC
We attempted this one while we were in the area as part of 'Beyond Hotham 2010'. We stopped to camp for the night nearby, so headed out with another cacher to nab this one. A relatively easy find, but a memorable one - we found it while we were having a great 4wd trip, and it was our 200th find! Left Green Jeep TB and Feb07 Geocoin.
Interesting area, will have to come back with more time available to check the rest of the caches around here. Took Bart Simpson and left arizona key ring. TFTC.
This old cache is in mint condition. I thought that the log had been recently renew and was surprized to find that it is the original log. I took a silver dinasaur and left a gruesome Bart. Thanks BB.
Found at 3.40pm whilst it wasn't raining, so we tempted the GeoPrincess away from her DS for a walk. Once confronted with a little hill the GeoPrincess was quite sure her energy reserves were not sufficient to get her to GZ. Dad relented and piggybacked her to GZ where she quite happily came up with the find whilst Dad tried to regain his breathing . We had been here camping a couple of years ago so knew the history of the place but great to be back.

This made for a great little escape from the guys I spent the weekend with on a 4x4 trip. Mind you, when I got back to camp, there were many questions about this geocaching thingy.
I was amazed reading the log book that the cache had been found my two different muggles. Both had put everything nicely back in place it would appear.
the location did well, and will hopefully survive and future bush fires too!
Thanks BB
