Hi alligatorsnz
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

After a dry summer and just a few showers, I can see why logs mention mud, because things have already started to get slippery here. The cache may be here, but it could take a month of Saturdays and Sundays of looking to be sure.
No luck here. GPS pointed 24m away so not sure where we were supposed to be looking. Tried the obvious spot without luck. Moved on as the heat was killing us.
I hitched down to the lake on my day off today. Walked around it and did a bit of Te Henga walkway.. I've already been here in summer, felt good to be back! The weather was on my side, so I could fully enjoy it:)
Couldn't find this one either.. Would be cool if the owner could have a look:) Cheers!

Unfortunately with four sets of eyes we were unable to located this one and two sets were from Gernita who had previously found the cache even though it was a few years ago. I am sure we will come back another time
After relaxing in Piha for many many days, it was time to find some more caches. Started the day by walking up to the Kita Kita Falls with Hans Burger, Andy and Chilli, former muggles, but already very interested in geocaching. After lunch I did a roadtrip from Piha to Bethel beach, finding many good caches on the way and doing some very nice walks. I walked the very easy loop around Cascade Falls, and the longer loop around Lake Wainamu, just in time for catching the beautiful sunset at Bethels Beach. Both of the hikes were really good, but I really enjoyed the Lake Wainamu-loop, I have never hiked around a lake that has been dammed by sanddunes. I'm really happy with the day, 17 geocaches, one new d/t-combination for my matrix and lots of beautiful views. Thanks to all the CO's who's been hiding these great geocaches.

Mud mud glorious mud. Slipped and slided our way to GZ. Luckily after walking anti clockwise the path onwards got a but easier. TFTC
Omg! It's so muddy. Lol It's suppose to be good for the skin right? Easy find. Tftc
dropped in to make and upgrade.. cache wasnt where it was supposed to be.. instead just sitting there in plain sight wrapped in a bag?? come one guys please re hide these as you find them.. muggles shouldnt be finding them!
There were lots of stumps and while I wandered off to one, Aiden29 made a quick find at another.
Plenty of stumps around to choose from, I headed straight for one and quickly found the cache in place.
I knew I was gonna have trouble here...and I did. Always has to be a DNF at the far end of a trail. Don't know when I will be back and will hate to see this "greenie" on the map.

Stumps stumps everywhere. With so many hiding places. Was lucky it was a quick find.
#1619. The family decided to visit Bethells Beach today. The caches up around Lake Wainamu were the target of our geocaching adventures. Its a great place to spend a day with excellent bush walks and the lake circuit, waterfalls, swimming in the dune lake, playing on the sand dunes and walking back down the shallow sand covered stream. This cache was found on the lake circuit. As we approached the GZ it became clear that there were a lot of potential hiding spots that fitted with the hint. I suggested one object to Miss L who started looking there but then got sidetracked by her sister. We did find a pair of undies by the large log. Not sure about the story associated with those! Decided to recheck the first object again and spied the cache in its hiding spot. We were signing the logbook when two different parties of muggles went past but luckily it was our drinks break so had a good alibi. Returned the cache as found. Nice views back down the lake. Thanks for the cache.
Out for a walk with friends. Love walking here. Great big tree. Friend walk up the trunk
Big Fuzzy spotted this one after I'd looked in the same spot then headed away . TFTC
Since the weather ended up being good I went to Lake Wainamu today to stretch the legs and have a look around. There were a few muggles about today but took my time and waited for them to move on before seeking caches around the lake. It looks like a great place to hang out in the Summer.
I headed straight for the lake via the dunes, after admiring the view I then made my way to the Lake Wainamu Loop Track. I decided to make things interesting and headed up the steep and muddy Houghton Track up to the Wainamu Junction which was a good workout. On the way up I located Light Craver and on the way back I paid a visit to the old house in the bush and found the cache there, it would be great to know the history of this house. Once back on the Houghton Track I really had to watch my footing on the way back down to the lake.
Once back on the lake track I made my way to Wainamu Falls and had a look around, the information sign and Pou were interesting. To finish up I walked back along the stream at the foot of the dunes, what a great place, will have to come back here again.
After coming down the muddy Houghton Track I was glad to see that there is also mud on the lake loop track, there was a muggle kid in front of me with his parents that wasn't too keen on the mud as much as me though. Once the muggles moved on I then went in to find this cache, after looking around a few possible spots I eventually found it. TFTC.

Sprained my ankle jumping from the tree aboit 2 minutes before we found it. When we found it I passed it to my sister who opened it the promptly threw it away screaming..... a decent sized spider had crawled out from it. Haha thanks for the find
Introducing some friends to the fun of geocaching and what better place than at Bethells Beach. A fav point as this cache was the point at which each of our five junior cachers had managed to find at least one each on our trip around the lake and this one was ideally located for the last kid to find.
We'd been here before but a family had scuppered our chances at looking for this one. Took this opportunity to stop for lunch, then a couple of our muggle friends helped us look. Thanks alligatorsnz
Out with tracit for the day with a group of muggles from our tramping club our aim being to introduce them to the fun sport of geocaching. We had them searching in pairs for the 14 or so caches all around Lake Wainamou and quite clearly they had all thoroughly enjoyed themselves as well as mostly being very successful after we had showed them what geocaching was all about. Although the camo seemed to be missing our pair of searchers needed a little bit of help to finally retrieve the cache. This was a grand part of the circuit and we all had our lunch stop here. Thanks alligatorsnz you're keeping us very busy today and what a lovely day it is.
Looking...looking...ah there it is..that wasn't so hard having a nice Wainamu lake lunch stop. a cunning spot with a nice lake outlook and a creepy misty look today..Thanks!
passing by on a nice relaxing stroll with a mate, checked in - cache present and correct - no sign of reported "wild life" still a great spot
Was busy searching one side of GZ, and my friend was sitting on the other side staring right at it. Nice easy find, can see how it might get muggled though. Nice place to sit and rest for a while before trudging on through the mud (this was a bad day for jandals).
Yikes. Muggles eating lunch right at this spot. Go figure. What were the odds. We proceeded to do what they did and clambered over the fallen vegetation. Stumped? We were until we spotted the cache from our vantage point. Jumping down hubby managed to hurt his back. Able to walk immediately afterwards but needed a lot of treatment at home later as virtually unable to walk once home. TFTC
Amazing how there are so many dead trees all here, as if it was a graveyard for them! But I wasn't stumped though bringing the cache to light.
wandering around the lake on a perfect day doing a bit of maintenance - all present and correct so sat down for a bite just past... stunning view

Lunch has been eaten, the bags are feeling lighter, just a few more caches to go, and we would have walked around the lake. Another group effort and the cache was found. Thanks again for the cache.

So many choices! where, oh where can it be! Another unexpected surprise on our adventures around the lake. Note to self: jandles not a good idea. A few minor slides on the way, and not much protection from the hard stones on the new track on the other side. Hmm whats the clue again? Thanks for the hide and bringing us here.
Another one that sounded so easy by the clue but a stump in a forest. Beautiful spot.
Cautiously found with a couple if muggles having lunch on the log nearby. About to walk away when the likely place was spotted
Great spot, could have supported a larger container - not in the same spot of course TFTC

Mr A out of town and again Mrs A left to retrieve #4 due to works to begin. This one had me stumped but cache present & accounted for.
Muggles sitting eating their lunch nearby but as there were 3 of us we could shield the retrieve by looking at the discarded skin of a cicada! TFTC
Took longer than expected but found it in the end. It was covered up well. TFTC
in the area for a spot of maintenance, just love how the caches seem to grow legs and move from where i had actually put it... is it like Chinese whispers or what? i wonder if there are a group of cachers out there that play their own "move the cache.." so the owners clues dont make sense any more and then he has to look for it next time i comes calling? can i log another smile , for managing to find it with out a clue?
For some weeks now I live nearby. I often go with the dog for a walk and found on one of these walks this cache.

Had to bypass this cache on the way past initially, as there were muggles enjoying a bite to eat right on GZ. Got it though, on our way back although again, another family were enjoying a snack right on GZ. Without wanting to leave this one for another day, i approached them and asked if they would mind looking for a WP. Turns out, they too were geocachers and had just found the cache prior to us coming past! Had a brief chat while signing the log and headed off on our way. TFTC!
Arrived at GZ but couldn't get a proper fix with the GPS, had a quick look but were interrupted by a family of 7-8 who decided to stop at the same place as us to eat! Great! Decided that we'd be back here again for sure, so would leave this one til then...didn't like it but didn't want to stick around whilst the kids were climbing all over the place and parents eating for goodness knows how long
Me and a muggle colleague (she knows about the game ) came out today for some hiking and some caching. Additional to this original indented plan we had some great time playing on the dunes, in the mud, enjoying the great waterfall and best of all walking barefoot on the Wainamu Stream. Just a great day out....
Quick find...TFTC

The track was definitely easier to navigate from this point on after the adventure getting to last one. Came up to GZ and saw the cache immediately. After signing the log, re-hid with a bit more camo to blend it in. Nice spot, TFTC
Thought we were going to be in a drenching as the heavens started to open on the way to this one but then as quickly as it started to come down it stopped again. By the time we got here the sun was out and it was looking like a really nice day.
Saw this one on approach as it was just sitting out in the open, all safe and sound however and we replaced with some extra coverage that hopefully won't blow away anytime soon. TFTC

Didnt see the wasps, but then again didnt read about them until just now reviewing previous logs...so might have been there. Anyway, looked somewhere else first, then stopped to consider my options, look at the GPS and rety my shoelace...and spotted it right in front of me! Didnt even have to move my feet to grab it! Thanks.
Arrived near GZ and could see where the cache must be. However there is wasp nest very close by, and the wasp's weren't happy about my presence. Backed off.
The cache was a bit exposed, and visible on approach. We tried to disguise it a little more after returning it to its position. Had to stop for more photos here - great views to the dunes across the lake. TFTC.
Your excellent co-ords and hint made for a quick find. The view back was gorgeous with muggles a plenty and sun on the dunes. Bit of a surprise to mrs who thought we'd reached the lake end at the trail junction. NINO TFTC
Saw the cache from a couple of meters away but have added a couple of handfuls more camo, so hopfeully a bit less obvious now. T4TC
This was a really neat one. I had lagged behind my group with the Hilary track cache and everyone else had gone ahead without the GPS. They had all stopped at GZ though because they were certain something would be in the area. I was just eyeing up an area with a great deal of ants on it, wondering whether I reeeally wanted to climb it and search, when my mum discovered the cache nearby. Very neat 'packing' and camo material.
Luckily we got this straight away. Was expecting a larger size here but still a cool hide.

Heading back down the other side of the lakes now and back towards the dunes, carpark and car. Looks like the track has had a bit of a tidy up on this side but the cache was safe and sound. TFTC, Biggles.
It did cross my mind that this area could support a bigger cache, and I was panicking that this could be a long search, but spotted it straight away.

We must have got tired on this one, as I couldn't find it. Which was crazy as it was pretty obvious once you read the clue...Thanks for the cache.
Totally fooled Gary, he even had his hand on it, I had to guide him onto it in the end "warm, hot, hotter, boiling! -;) am enjoying today, thanks, nice hide!
the restriction on entry to this park seems to have been lifted:-) be careful out there
The park containing the cache has been closed until further notice by the Auckland City Council as a mark of respect to family / individual after a tragic accident.
I will re enable the cache series when i am aware that the park has re opened.

Another one picked up as we walked around the lake with Pagenz. Left Ryan and Megan at the top of the dunes sandboarding as there was a body recovery going on in the lake and didn't think it was a good place for them to be. Just as well as it turns out as both myself and the children knew the sister of the man they were looking for. Tragic and another drowning statistic for NZ's young men.
Impressive tree. Probably would have looked better in the vertical position. We did not linger long under it. TFTC.
It was time that I visited the new Lake Wainamu caches that were recently published and to enjoy the walk around the lake. I have walked to the lake before but never around it. Very enjoyable
Cheers for the cache.

We headed out late on Saturday evening to do the walk around Lake Wainamu before sunset, it was our first visit here and our first visit to the sand dunes - very cool! A quick find here - nice hide. Thanks for the cache and thanks for bringing us here!

Found #1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 last night prior to publishing of these last two, and had a bit of a sleep in this morning. Wasn't long up when these two caches, #5 and 6, were published so made a snap decision to throw the pack back in the car and head back out to explore the other side of Lake Wainamu. Arrived about 12:30pm - lots of cars parked in the carpark, and quite a few people enjoying the dunes and the lake. The track was a bit muddy in places but no problem. Definitely noticed that the water level int he stream had dropped considerably from last night, almost back down to its normal trickle. Great spot for the final - exactly where I had judged it would be when looking up the lake from the dunes. Nice one. FTF #1289 TFTC!!!
