I make the drive from LV to LA several times a year, but the last several times, the thermometer has been dark, as it was today. On the rare times I have seen it lit, the temperature was not correct. I'm afraid that like the rest of this once thriving travel stop city, the thermometer's famous landmark days are behind it, and it is falling into disrepair. While gettting close to the thermometer (and nearby Bun Boy sign for another cache), it is clear that it is receiving very little maintenance. But, according to my car external temperature, it was about 70 degrees when I visited around 2:30pm.

It was a fraction under the ton when Clan Gunnie and I dropped through town. Not as hot as last week I am led to believe but still pretty bloody hot... Surprised

Junior was not so keen to jump out of the A/C car to take the pic but the temptation of ice cream was too much to ignore... Wink

Pics taken and we were back on the road.

Cheers AquaDyna.

Dropped into Baker for a break on the driuve from Vegas to LA. Photo taken and is attached. Couldn't see the temp, but I know it was hot....

Thanks for the hot fun.....

Found on my way home from Vegas after helping with the annual Baker to Vegas race and spending a few days of caching afterwards. It's still broken so no temp. reading could be obtained.

A perfect "pit stop" cache. Sorry to see that the thermometer is not working. A very nice 93 degrees today according to the car. Thanks for the cache

Not sure why I didn't log this on other trips, but now's the time.

Cool[orange]Howdy from TRAK(d)[/orange] Cool
It’s that time of year again… Family Vacation TIME! So, [pink]Pink Luver[/pink], [red]Wee “K”[/red], [blue]Lil’ “R”[/blue] and I headed for the open highway and adventures. This was our last day of the trip and we were heading home.

By pulling up and parking basically under the sign it was hard to tell what the actual temperature was. We took the picture as required and will post (or posted)… not sure if the temp is really working because it only went up to 70… all the rest were dark. My car temp said it was 94 degrees at 9am if that helps. Anyway, thanks for bringing me back to this spot… I remember it MUCH different as a kid 30+ years ago. Thanks for the adventure during our vacation.
Big Grin[blue]Cheers[/blue] Wink

On our way from LA to LV we couldn't miss a rest with a virtual. It was a scorcher that day about 100- like any day in the desert
Thanks

Nogs, Devil Hunter and I are on our way up to the "famous" power line run. I really like virtual's because they take people to such interesting places. It was a beautiful 72 degrees when we were there. Devil Hunter posted a picture. I forgot my camera, darn it. TFTC

I had all good intentions of doing the Power Trail today but ran out of time so did the Presidents Power Trail and a few others around as well instead.

Impressive thermometer - 66 degrees today. TFTC. Big Grin

Found on our way to Barstow. Stopped in town due to the Thanksgiving traffic, making our trip take 5hrs. Was reaing 60 when we stopped through. TFTC

I went and touched the thermometer - most of the other tourists taking photos looked either confused or grumpy that I was ruining their photos. Only 60 degrees (17 in proper celciusBig Grin), but it was just before 10am. Thanks.
