passing by upgrading log containers.... this one was all good.. still impressed with the camo on this guy.. i always have to stare at where i think it should be.. till i see it lol
Searched for ages begore almost giving up. Then something caught my eye as I was departing.Good camo.Tftc
Hiking out here with alpenmilch80 today and came here for a look. Took a bit of hunting around, but a change in perspective was eventually enough to line me up with the cache and we were in business. Nicely hidden - TFTC
Got to GZ and our coordinates were a little off. We started checking out the obvious GZ and just could not see it. About to give up and one of us finally saw it. We had been imagining something of the same style but instead it was a complimentary well camo'd adornment .
A great day in the Waitaks today. The weather was great and the caching plentiful. However it took a turn for the worse in the afternoon when one of our party had a hiking accident requiring a very long wait at A&E, x-rays and stitches!
Out with Nigel Barnes 11 to do day two of the Hillary trail! As promised I returned and found the real cache not the imposter! Quick find by nb! Nice cammo
I will return on my next hike and find the real one!! Annoying that people just add a cache if they can't find the actual one!
Well we'll well. This was a find is not seen before. We were travelling on a cache maintenance journey with lochnessmonsta and CO. I sent my daughter off to find this one and cache in hand quickly. The only problem being that the cache she found with a call of FOUND IT, did not match the description. With a stunned CO, and me puzzled as to who would do such a thing, she promptly headed back for another look. With another hunt and cache not so quickly in hand she FOUND IT. I could see why the stunned look from the CO. This cache was well hidden and looked awesome. The original log was missing and someone replaced it with a blank strip of paper. This was most bizarre.

Had noted a three DNF's on this cache from respectable players... came expecting to replace the cache, only to find first "someone else s" replacement container at GL??" and then to our surprise our original cache exactly where it has always been.. less than a meter form the replacement??
The plot thickened when we found that "someone" had replaced the log sheets with two strips of blank paper in our proper cache?
Mallorcatommy, PinkpantherDD, and 10 cent coin - have signed the impostor cache.. ;-( which has now been deleted for good!

On a lovely winter walk up the parahaha valley. Searching for caches along the way and we saw the name of this one..very good arrived at gz and saw a great example..miss onewheelfamily dived in mud and all..and found the very clever camo. Apparently she out foxed and few other cachers with her easy discovery hehe. Thanks
A very muddy approach from my disappointing DNF at the last one... Then out of nowhere a compacted gravel path started. I was a little surprised to see it here, but a little grateful as it made it a little easier and faster. Quick find at the GZ with the help of the hint. TFTC
Found this cache with 8 people on a hike from Karekare to Whatipu of around 15 caches, celebrating one of KKchickpea's member's 12th birthday and 100th cache, as well as 2nd placement and first earthcache find. We started on Karekare beach, then walking along the Hillary Trail to Pararaha Valley, then heading up the Miur Track, collecting a couple of caches on the way to Mt Gillies. Then we collected 5 or so more caches on the way down, going night caching, then staying the might at Whatipu Lodge. The next day, we grabbed a few more caches to get our smilies up to 100, and placed our own cache!
Wow, such a distinctive tree! Quck find, TFTC.

Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
We spent way too long here, the hint was clear and we cleared out a wide section but still no such luck
Second one we couldn't find. Hint was clear for the location but nothing we could uncover.
Looks shaggy, feels prickly, smells good, please let it grow big and don't cut it down for furniture! T4TC
I went out on a post cyclone hike today, together with alligatorsnz, doing a loop circuit from Whatipu to Donald Mclean via Walker Ridge and returning again via Omanawanui Track – a great hike in the wind and occasional rain! My GPS wanted me somewhere else, but it was fairly obvious where the cache would be and it was soon found. TFTC!
Yay, finally managed to find one before Mrs Sp8, but with a name like that it wasn't hard.

As soon as I git close I knew what shaggy had to be. I was not to be disappointed. Climb levelling off now and approaching 300 metres height.
Thanks for the cache.

Checked with council and (as also on website is stated) Dogs are allowed on the gibbons and muir track!!! Altough you need to pass a "no dogs" sign. Dogs are allowed on the track..confirmed by the council and other locals.
So we enjoyed a great walk and followed a trail of caches on the Gibbons track.
pff that was more of a challenge, going up and up. Cache was an easy find with the hint, but a nice trip to get there. Would more a swap of ratings hahaha
We liked the hint and the start of my first blood incident. It was one of the outsticking sticks who managed to put a pinch in my leg..No plaster needed hahahaha

I decided last night that it was time to do a big walk, and I mean a BBBIIIGGG walk (25km), down Whatipu way picking up a few recent caches. After coming up the beach from Whatipu I decided to go back via the Muir then Gibbons Tracks. Had a bit of trouble crossing the swamp and wanting to keep dry boots. So I ended up walking down to Tunnel Point and then along the Hillary Trail to the Pararaha Stream. In the end I got my boots wet by crosing the stream. Shouldn't have worried at the swamp as it would have saved a couple of kms from my walk.
A bit of a huff and puff up the Muir from the stream then a gentle downhill from the junction with Gibbon to the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
I like these trees--I'd love to see a whole forest of them. I'll bet it would sound amazing. I found this one on the way back from doing a loop starting at Whatipu, then long the beach, then up to Zion's Pool cache, then back along Gibbons. I was in survival mode at this point, but still making good headway. Cheers for the cache.
Just heading past on a tramp, replacing the log with a new low maintenance version...
Found with Tracit. Another breather on our trek north towards the Pararaha. Have never seen the swamp below looking so dry. TFTC
We arrived later in the day so were not able to join the other cachers on the walk as part of the Whatipu event. Once up the step hill it was a more leisurely walk along the ridge. Although we spotted the hint object quickly the cache was overlooked on the 1st pass but was located on a second look. TFTC.
Enjoying walk a lot more now that we aren't climbing so steep, am able to keep up now, but glad of the caches to catch my breath.
Fantastic to have these trials so close to Auckland for our enjoyment. TFTC

One of the other team members, with a keen sense of imagination and an eye for details found this one very fast. I liked this a lot, and was starting to get my breath back by this time. Kiwileon and team set a good pace!
Cache #5 found in a group of nine led by KiwiLeon during the Waitangi at Whatipu event. Like White at the previous cache Shaggy stood out like a sore thumb and the cache was located instantly. Thanks!
Did the walk as part of our Whatipu event.
Nice walk up and along the ridge.
No problem finding the cache with 9 GPSrs.
Pretty shaggy indeed.

Found on our walk from Whatipu to Pararaha Valley via Gibbons and Muir Tracks with Kiwileon, Mike-miss, Little Red Hood, Jacksonz, Arachnaphobe and Slieschke. Had a great time and loved the views from the various vantage points along the clifftops. Cheers.
Stopped here with the group as part of the Waitangi Campout walk via Gibbons/Muir/Pararaha Stream/Beach loop. Another quick and easy find here before continuing on our journey. Some great views from up here. TFTC!
Re dogs, Glad it works for you:-)
Like all signs placed by authority i just tend to take them at face value... just like stop signs.. ( "its ok officer all the locals said run it")

Found shaggy at the coordinates and the cache at ground level this was the same type of container as the rest but no log book???? Was sure they must have forgot to add log book when hiding so sighed at strip of paper and placed in a plastic bag for log hope that was the right thing to do.
Thanks goes to cartaclan, for spotting our deliberate mistake;-) and fixing it for us.
you can imagine Mr Alligatorsnz face when he thought he had only a certain number of caches in his bag but discovered yet another complete with bag and log???? >puzzled face<<< turns out there was already a container of the same type used for the caches already in the same part of the pack(it looks like a cache container as it had been grabbed from the cupboard where they live to hold pills on a recent trip...) so the random look alike got placed... rather than the prepared one ... he he
