Logs
Found out in the open with LittleBoss2 and Geo the puppy. It was clear some sort of animal had burrowed into the log and pushed the ammo can out of its new home. No taste whatsoever in furnishings. Hope you don't mind that we rehid it beside the log under plenty of bark, hoping it's undisturbed a couple of metres away. Thanks for bringing us down here strange quark 1
Found with my favs Bogonghazy and Geo dog. The cache was on the ground and had obviously been dug out by an animal. We re-hid it beside the log. Thanks strangequark1 for placing the geocache
*Found on the 6 Nov 2023 @ 2:53pm.**Cache find # 15339.* Out and about on my last day on the weekend trip to St Arnaud, now it was time to head for home but of course, there were a lot of caches to find along the way.I had to cut the BW series short and head for the main road to take me back home but as I was passing this one, well a short detour, a few minutes more wasn't going to matter much.Once I parked the car I could see where I was needing to be so over I went and the cache was found.**Thanks to strange quark1 for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Found it. What an interesting story. You would never know anything if passing this area
I recently noticed that i wasnt far off completing the 360 from home badge and excitedly put together a list of caches to finish that off. This one leaves seven to go, but they are scattered around the state so might take me a while. In the mean time it is goid to be one step closer thanks to this quality hide, thanks.
The trip
I have been feeling a bit off colour for a few days without much energy to tackle things at home nor even to sort out some caching. Yesterday afternoon i found myself feeling a bit better and after finishing a couple of chores i sat down to map out some caches to target to fulfill some challenges and badgegen goals. Of course i ended up with a spray of caches right across my map. How do i break them up into groups, which direction do i head for my next trip? It was late so i left it for the evening. This morning i had another look and after some dithering decided that St Arnaud was the first area to tackle. After a leisurely (late) start i am hoping for lots of lovely caches for the day.

TFTC Visiting family, doing the rounds, we've had a great afternoon caching with some enthusiastic young cousins.
Not having a 4x4, I needed to do the walk in, which was quite pleasant. Not too hot, an ammo can, birds chirping.
Welcome back from Covid. If there are issues with the cache after the length of time in situ please message me.
Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.
I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.
I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.
I apologise for the inconvenience.

Roaming Howie and I are out for a little caching session whilst our muggle friends are back at camp. Thanks for the cache
We’ve been camping at teddington hut for the long weekend and ducked out for a short afternoon cache session. Completed a loop back to the campsite and explored this part of the park before returning to camp for dinner. All caches in good order. Thanks for the hides.
Found on my last geocaching drive in the St Area for this trip. I leave tomorrow morning. This was a quick find on a much nicer day than yesterday no wind and much cooler. Also found the lettering on the cache interesting. TFTC.
Fitzy_1965 and I travelled to St Arnaud with two geo-kids in tow.
Day 4 - Time to pack up and head home. Out of the caravan park by 10am and head out for a few last caches before leaving St Arnaud. Ended up taking it slow and got home just before midnight!
All caches found quickly and easily unless otherwise stated.

19,718. Found with minniek during our epic visit to the St. Arnaud region for the 2019 Victorian Mega Event.
Day 4 - After breakfast and packing up our campsite we hit the trail for a few more caches around St. Arnaud before starting the long trip home. Next one on the list. This was a quick find at GZ. Log was signed, cache replaced and it was off to the next one.
Thanks strange quark1 !!

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.
We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.
Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. This cache was one of these found as we headed towards Stuart Mill, and back up to St Arnaud. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.
FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.
Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).
On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.
Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!
A quick find on our night adventure for the Far and Wide caches during St Arnaud Mega
We detoured down south to finish off the last few caches down here, cache was found all in good order
What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.
Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.
Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.
Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.
Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.
Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.
Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

Stayed at St Arnaud for Mega week and enjoyed with different caches Found your cache today. strange quark1, thank you so much for placing it.
Found at the St Arnaud Mega whilst looking for far and wide stamps! Thanks for the cache!
Today we went looking for some of the bingo items being the far and wide letterbox and completing the social bingo we placed our entry in and went on for a great roll provided by the Rotary club and it was a wonderful meal.
No boys camping today however there was a cache camping at the location and we soon extracted the log and made our mark along with collecting the stamp impression on the bingo sheet we continued to replace the contents of the cache in the container and return to its hiding place.
Thanks srange quark 1 for putting this on the map for us to add to our growing list of finds.

This weekend was the St. Arnaud Mega event and I was looking forward to hitting the road for a few days doing some flat out caching, visiting many new and amazing places and catching up with lots of caching friends. The event was a great success and heaps of fun. The caches provided by the local cachers were, in many cases, absolutely mind blowing (FUF009 caches most notably). All in all it was a great weekend, very warm weather and lots of caches found.

A planned four-day caching trip to Ballarat and then up to St Arnaud to change some more green boxes into smiley faces.
A couple of Events are included but the main idea was to do and finish off any trails that are up this way that I have not completed. This will give me a clear start when I arrive for the St Arnaud Mega in November 2019.
The first day could not have been much worse to travel with a caravan behind into a head wind and the temperature hovering around the 44° mark. The White Beast breathed a sigh of relief when I finally arrived at the caravan park.
After partially setting up I thought a cold beer or two was more important as the main thing was water, power and the rest could be done when it was a little cooler. OK I forgot to set up the hot water but then just turning on the cold tap you got all the hot water you wanted.
I was surprised at the number of caching teams that were here or arrived after me.
The BBQ facilities which are first class in the park was well utilised all weekend and only a few metres away from the van.
A big thanks to all the caching teams that have placed caches in this area for us to find as after four days I have a lot to log.
I have been in an area without internet coverage so finally finishing off logging the last days caching in St Arnaud.
Thanks strange quark1 for showing me this location interesting cache notes.

TFTC. We decided to go for a drive today before the heat got too much later in the week. First stop Redbank and then on to Stuart Mill and a small circle back along the highway to collect a few Original Road Puzzles before heading back to Maryborough.
A short detour off the highway along the dirt track. Stopped short of the cache, parked in the shade and walked the last 200 metres . Quick find.

Today becca85 and I left the husbands and kids in Maryborough watching the Grand Final and headed out to nab a few caches. We've just about cleared out this area but all the harder to reach ones around Stuart Mill were still on the list to find. We had a great afternoon caching and 4wding in Bec's new car to get some of the tougher ones. All nice easy finds with amazing history and magnificent views. Many thanks for the cache.

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.
Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.
Thanks strange quark1 (F=2686 H=69) for the cache.

On my way home after a fab weekend of fun friendship and quality caches. Stopped to wander in to this deserted place to discover it had once been a scene of activity. Thanks for the cache and the history strange quark 1
Another awesome weekend in St Arnaud with CybergranV and her Muggle Hubby chasing some of the best caches this country has to offer.
Ooh camping.
Camping for boys.
That sounds fun.
NOT!
I don't think this would have been anything like my old scouting days.

Not much left of what was previously a hive of activity. Muggle Hubby and I enjoyed the photographic opportunity, whilst dalerious is always deliriously happy to find this type of cache container. It is surprising that it had not been found for nearly six months, until today.
Thanks for yet another history lesson we would have been oblivious to, were it not for Geocaching, and people like you who put out and maintain caches to bring us here. I had no intention of coming to this area today, but your caches lured us to find them.

Suscoe was in the area today enjoying a wander in this beaut countryside.
It was a cloudy day with drizzle here and there, and a little cool at times and then a little warmer later in the day.
Thanks to strange quark1 for sharing this spot with us, who would have thought that such things happened here all those years ago.

Found with pprass, I had been hearing about the quality of caches in the St Arnaud area so I arranged to meet up with pprass for a couple of days caching, We were not disappointed with the caches we found in the area. This was day two of caching in the area and we were glad of cooler temperatures today. Looked like a few remains of the old buildings near by, sure would have been isolated out here. Thanks strange quark1 for the cache.
Found at 5:26 PM GAFF1 in the company of Rebel Acts.
There must have been quite a few orphaned boys that needed to be looked after. There are similar sites in Rowville, Melbourne and at Philip Island.

Found with SAWSTUFF - a weekend with the boys. Bikes, Beer and Caches... what more could you want? Thanks strange quark1.
A 4 day trip from Adelaide to Everton, Beechworth and surrounds.
8 of South Australia's finest caching teams came across the border Freddo, Team Astro, The White Dog Gang, Four Fun, Unicycle, Southern Cross Caching, Shonkloic, and Team Waldron hit the bike trails and country back roads.
It wasn't nice the the mozzies were sent to defend the ceches against us but we persisted.
On the way home we visited Bendigo, St Arnaud and many towns in between.
Many thanks to all the cache owners who put out caches for us to find.
A great time was had and we left enough to make another trip worthwhile.

Down came the rain. We CAME. We CACHED. We SAW STUFF. Eight South Australian caching teams on the prowl in Lake Victoria. We were attacked by vampire mosquitoes. We were attacked by rogue magpies. We were attacked by brown snakes. We were attacked by running kangaroos. We were attacked by publicans and cooks. In the end we got the message and went home, but not before finding lots of hidden cachey things using billions of dollars of satellites and cheap hand-held devices.
Great cache found during the "SAW STUFF" road, bicycle & walking trip to central Victoria with Shonky, Astro, Waldron, Southern XC, Uni & Freddo
Easy find, cool spot, great cache

Found on an awesome trip with the SAW STUFF boys (Shonky, Astro[me], Waldron, Southern Cross, Whitedog, Unicycle, Freddo & Four-Fun). The trip had it all including this awesome cache. There were pots and schooners (no pints) , mazzive mozzies the size of small elephants we hitched rides on , realistic lizards, real live [xx(] kangaroos that got too close and uphills. Then there were bikes and pumps. There was sweat and dust but no tears. My thanks to the group and the coordination that enabled an amazing fun filled few days that will go down in caching-lore. [^]
Thanks to strange quark1 and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!
A quick and easy find as we cache our way around St Arnaud for the weekend. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache.
**Find #: 4774**
**Time: 11:03 am**
**Date: Sun 16 Oct 2016**
The weekend began with a Friday morning visit to the Archibald prize finalists at the Ballarat Gallery. Then onto St Arnaud.
A very enjoyable extended weekend based around three events, each of which was well organised with an outstanding roll up of attendees.
This particular one was find #78 of 87 for the weekend.

It was nice to drive in here and see this historic site. Not a lot left to see but your history paints a good picture.
Nice sized cache too

In the region in preparation for an event, but of course you must cache your way there. So brisal5, Anymules and I found about 30 'on the way'
Thanks
Thanks
Staying at Redbanks overnight with Anymules and Mogni to attend the 3 months till the Surf Coast event in St Arnaud. Up early we have all morning to cache our way to the event. In preparation we had solved 25 nearby puzzles so they were on our 'must do' list. A day of caching with me usually involves blood spilled, a fall and/or ripped clothing. I wonder which order they will be in today? Not to mention lots of laughs and adventures.
Luckily we had the clearance to drive right in to GZ. then a quick find in the first place we looked. Thanks strange quark1.

A nice little drive in to the park to a good sized cache. TFTC. 20/08/2016, 10:17 AM Find #2628
Managed a quick find this morning while grabbing a few caches with my two young geolads, we managed a quick find with this one while grabbing a few caches along the back roads of town. Thanks strange quark1 for the history of this old camp site and the cache.
Found by Mary & David at 1135. We were surprised to find that it has been 6 months since the last cacher was here at this beautiful spot. Another historic spot far from civilisation that you have shown us. Not a lot of evidence nearby around GZ of what was once here. If only those stones could talk. Delighted to read your description about the Camp. Another favourite point from us. A milestone find for us here also, as it is our 20,000th Traditional cache find. Our thanks to strange quark1.
Fantastic site and interesting information in the cache notes. The other bonus for this cache is the ease of access to the site. SL TFTC
We just added a favourite to this cache as it has now become our 9000th cache. That is so long as we do not find any others that we have either double logged or forgotten to log.

Again another very interesting historical location you have brought us to Strange Quark 1. We will have to do some more research into the activities of this boys camp as there seems to be some merit in projects like this. Thank you again for the cache.
After completing the nearby BM trail we decided to try and clear out the map a bit at this end of the forest. We managed to pick some really awesome bumpy tracks to get to this spot.... tarmac is for fools after all. The kids even somehow managed to fall asleep on their way here. Once at the GZ the cache was soon located and after admiring the nearby ruins and reading about its story we were soon on our way again. TFTC StangeQuark1. +1 fav points for the cool history of this place.
Found this one easy after we made it to GZ. The getyng to GZ was the real adventure. Drove along some roads that may or may not have actually been roads. Had lots of fun on the wet tracks and came out safe and sound the other side. Tftc.
Great Cache easy to find u could see it from the road found this with M1L5 signed and placed back tftc

Went for an Easter Monday drive out through the bush, in the ute, with geodog Penny on board, and decided we'd put a purpose into the drive and add a challenge to locate some of strange quark1 caches.
This was 2 of 4.
Penny was enjoying her day's outing as she loves running through the bush. We only had to make sure there were no roos around before letting her out.
Was very pleased to see the size and contents of this cache. There has been no half hearted effort put into this hide.
Took black and white soldier. Left blue key holder.

Nearly didn't delve deep enough here as was distracted by a bit of the camouflage. Glad we did as this is our favourite type of cache container. The track back to the hwy was a lot kinder to the poor old campervan than the one we took in. It's sad what we subject our transport to in our quest for caches. Thanks.
