Its taken 2 years for the "mushroom cloud" to dissipate in the wind, but now it finally has... or in botanical terms the host trunk has collapse and the leaves died.. all that remained on inspection was a small pile of dead leaves and the cache laying attached to nothing - RIP Mushroom cloud ( see photos)

Oohhhh it all makes sense now! Alligators collected the cache on his way up yesterday, which is why Lostcourse and I couldn't locate it when we ran into him further down!! Nice to meet you both Smile

Well, I was going to log a DNF, but it turns out there was no cache there to find. The CO had swooped in just before me and removed it. That's just not cricket!

Interesting view.
The hiding spot has partly collapsed, cache sitting in there nicely at the moment.
No problem finding it.

Was up in Auckland collecting caches with a couple of mates. A great day but my legs were sore after all the walking. A very interesting item

So your telling me no one reads the cache description any more?

Out with C&D and Nova, finding a few caches before heading over to Rangitoto for a days caching, and with an early start meant we were at the carpark a little early, and with the sun not quite up and the excitement of a days caching we didn't realise that we had to wait for the sun to rise before attempting these caches. I'm sorry for our misjudgement.

Cache was found quickly once we had located GZ.

24-May-14
Out for the day with HKCB & Nova Lightening collecting a few caches before racing to Auckland to catch the ferry to Rangitoto for the day.
Waked in here in the dark and soon had the cache in hand (didn't spot the livestock until we were on the way out. Took the difficult way to the cache

Thanks for the placement

thanks for your honesty cats and dragons.. but we wrote don't come here at night for a reason.. we don't want to loose access across the private land ! (Doc already has a dim view of caches thanks to the actions of some of us..)

Great little cache my favorite so far in my young caching career. Pretty mushroom..

I was out for a hike today on Mt William Walkway with lochnessmonsta and alligatorsnz. I soon spotted the mushroom cloud on approach to GZ and waited a few moments for the penny to drop with lochnessmonsta! But she made a quick find of the cache. An unusual feature this, definitely suits the cache name! TFTC!

I stopped by on the way up and kept looking for the required shape, but didn't find it. This was because my GPSr had me far away from GZ. On the way out, I gave it one more try, and with a new set of satellites, I got to where I needed to be and made the grab. TFTC.

Very clever and it isn't even mushroom season. As soon as I saw it I thought of Horoshima. Favourite.

We are so used to finding your caches beside the track we went past this one on the way up. Not to worry we had to eventually turn back.

While waiting for the rest of the tramping group t show up, i rushed up the track to find it. Glad i had the extra time as it took longer than it should, steeping back and reading the hint (again) helped.

#1689, nice afternoon for a walk, TFTC

Bam! Found this one while the busload of Asian tourist regrouped at the tail end of the track. No problems with being sighted as this one is a bit away from the the obvious gathering spot. All good with the cache. But I missed the Tail Fins further up the hill and need to go back for it next, then come back down again to catch the Kauri Track trail head. Then back up past the trig again to the other end of the track where I left the car. No biggie. Weather is perfect for a day out among the trees, bovines and other assorted ruminants. Cheers for the cache.

I was in the area on a night time mission to find the newly published cache nearby. Not that this one was very old either!

Made my way in from the park easily enough and to GZ; spotted the mushroom cloud and after a bit of searching made the find.

Thanks!

the attribute list no night time access for a reason - please abide by it

10-Oct-13
Thanks alligatorsnz for pointing this out out and please accept my apologies; to be honest I hadn't looked at the description/attribute of your cache pages when I headed out. I had only looked at the other new one in the area which only noted it not being a not a night cache in an attribute that I missed too. That's no excuse for not looking however; I will certainly pay more attention in the future.

Received an invite from mike-miss to head out here early on Saturday and give up a sleep in for a few caches instead. Watched the weather all the way in but even though it looked like raining at any moment it managed to hold off enough for us to collect all the caches in the area without getting rained on in the process.

Nice quick find in the likely spot here, and happy to see a blank logsheet for our troubles, TFTC

Saw these new caches come out Wednesday night and given the time they were published, decided to leave them for Saturday morning.
Hatched a plan with evilno9 and decided we'd head out this way early Saturday morning in the hope of a few FTFs. This one was the first stop and we quickly spotted the mushroom cloud on approach to GZ. A brief search and the cache was in hand. Our first FTF for the morning at around 7.30am. Quite surprised these new caches stayed unfound until we got out here. TFTC alligatorsnz! Big GrinBig Grin
