It sounds like these containers are in need of replacement, they probably get a bit bashed around by the rocks. Time for them to go and make way for new hides. It'll be a couple of months before I'm over there again, so will remove them completely then.
Greetings from Canberra, Australia! Today we walked 18.9km from our accommodation, to the Rangitoto ferry, then around the Island and back again. An absolutely stunning Island, the vegetation is beautiful and the volcanic rocks and caves are awesome. Took a few minutes to spot this one, lots of rocks and mlss around! Nicely tucked away. TFTC!
Easy find during our trip to New Zealand, Rangitoto Island. Cache is in its place, safely, despite the last log being Not found. Thanks for the cache
Its an easy one and couldn’t find it… mauve Im blind or the cache is not here anymore ?
We were fortunate enough to book a bach on the island with the goal to collect a number of the geocaches. As we headed over, Mr Stik-a-Crane pointed out there was still a FTF on offer over on Motutapu island so, once we had dropped off the packs, we headed along Islington Bay Road collecting caches along the way. Another nice quick find here.
Once onto the Island....on my first visit here, we (HeMaLuDy team and myself), dropped our gear off at the accommodation that was to be for the next 2 nights, and headed for an unclaimed FTF on the boarder to Motutapu.
Obviously collecting any caches that were along the way.....
Arriving on the Island at 12pm, we tramped fro 7 hours for 17.6km to return back to the accommodation for a rest and dinner

On a GLCS adventure with Kiscardi and Hal2929. Challenge caches complete. Time now for a few Trads as we clock watch so we don’t miss the ferry.
Kiscardi was all over this one while we were looking on the wrong side of the track. TFTC

Thanks for the cache. Quick find with the help of the hint. On a trip with Mr M. And Hal2929 to Rangitoto
Managed to pick up the majority of the challenge caches that we wanted and had time for some trads as we headed back down to the wharf.

On a trip to the cache island with Kiscardi and Marchwood to pick up some challenge caches. A quick find. All good with the cache. Thanks
Good easy find, small amount of moisture has made it's way into the jar but not too bad. Started off a trackable journey in this cache
Hi.
Thanks for the opportunity to walk the road. The blue post isn't so blue anymore...

For our morning walk we decided to get the caches up near the summit and then return for lunch before the forecasted rain. We just made it back before the forecasted rain but we did not make it back for lunch. Getting back at around 4pm. Did the summit ones then decided we would just get a few around the edge of the island. What an Epic walk. Have been to Rangitoto a number of times but this is the first since I started caching. Thanks for all the hides on this Island.
Love all the moss on the rocks. A nice eash find

Really enjoying our walk as it’s not too strenuous - yet..... we come from the flat Fenlands of East Anglia, UK where oxygen is needed over 10 feet above sea level - only kidding! Another easy find here. SL. TFTC.
Found it - without even looking! Cache was peeking out as we trekked past ... One of the younger Diplomat Bears spotted it from the road, so we logged it and tucked it back out of sight. TFTC, great spot!
My trackable inventory says my fox tb is in this cache. Please could someone message me to confirm...
Trouvée rapidement ! Terrain peut être un peu sous estimé mériterait un 2,5. Joli camouflage !! TFTC
Found this on our day out on Rangitoto. It was a longer hike than expected to reach Motatapu, so we appreciated the caches breaking up the walk.
TFTC!

First of the day and headed towards the ferry early having to carry out all our stuff after being on the island for a few days, a long slow walk was expected and with rain approaching left around 8.30am for the trip. This is about the last piece of Rangi we have never been to and it was great to find a reasonably large cache on the island. IT WAS appreciated after some of the small ones we found and couldn't find. The island has more than enough places for decent size hides so placing Micros is a little frustrating. Well this turned out not to be the only decent size cache found on this track/road.
Cache and log in good order. Again thanks for the DECENT sized cache

Enjoyed the mossy rocks, but even more more enjoyed the lack of muggles on this route back to the ferry.
Nice straightforward find here compared to our previous rock hopping ones we had picked up earlier . All good here, TFTC.
This one had me stumped from the get go and when I nearly put my foot into what looked like a nest, I decided to bug out. It was a great location and it was awesome to see the moss there. TFTC!
Love these carpets of moss so glad one doesn't have to walk on them to get the cache.TFTC
On Rangitoto Island today with friends (Mr and Mrs SherlockthePuppy, along with daughter SherlockthePuppy) with the mission being to go for a wander, climb to the top... and of course, find a few geocaches!
Another find that needed to be a quick one, on our way back down- due to our need to get back to the dock on time for the last ferry.
The jokes about who we knew with a boat, and where we would sleep if we got left behind were starting to be uttered... so luckily this was, in fact, a nice, quick find- thanks to the specific clue!
Nice little hiding spot for a cache.
Thanks for placing!

On our way back now and we have a few more caches to go on this road. This one was a pretty straight forward find.
It was pleasure to found this hide during my return visit to Rangitoto Island. All good at GZ. TFTC / TB drop
Out for a day of caching on Rangitoto, me and rusty. We hopped on the first boat and arrived here at 8am to the island and took the very last one back at 4pm, so all in all, we walked a solid 8 hours and 16km in beautiful weather! We’re not mucking around either, rusty wants to get as many caches as we can today for a goal of hers.
We're heading anti-clockwise today, hope to get a few Earth caches in the mix and several trads as well. (No time for multis though, another day) Nice to have this cache close to the track and not need to do a lava-bash! We saw the post and the cache was soon located after that. Rusty signs us in and we're moving on!

With gorby on Rangitoto Island, on a perfect winters day. The sky is sparkling blue, and as we were first off the boat, taking the low road to the top, its just us (although suprised by the number of vehicles that have past us!)
Another cool hide, and the log is soon being signed. Thanks vistra for the rangi hide,

With the Planetary challenge currently on and the need to get a good number of caches to achieve all the souvenirs, a plan was made a while ago with DaffyNZ, to make an assault on Rangitoto Island today. Planning two weeks out, we hoped the weather would be good and thankfully today, is was just about perfect, except for the squally front that arrived just on ferry boarding time at 5:00pm.
Rangitoto was a place I had never been before, so I was keen to experience the unique geology and this caching game gave me a good reason to make the trip from up north. With DNZ’s partner along as well, we left before 5:00am to make sure of catching the 7:30 early ferry and once we set foot on the island, it was all go to find as many caches as possible during the day.
All up during the 9 hours before catching the last ferry back to Auckland, we clocked up over 33,000 steps for a distance of 22km, including almost 2km across jagged lava flows. We actively looked for 40 caches and managed to find 39 of them, with just one DNF, and this probably due to the rapidly approaching ferry departure time.
Thx to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches and giving us an extra reason to make the journey to this neat place.
Heading back down the Islington Bay road now and this one was a quick find in the hint location, even though we hadn't yet reached the blue marker. TFTC

(3059) Out with the cache hound and 0B80B8 for a days adventure, caching on Rangitoto Island. We clocked up over 20 km walking the tracks and collecting the caches. Thanks for placing the caches on such a beautiful and unusual landscape. Finally on our way back towards the ferry.

Finally! Haha we're trying to walk as quick as possible so quickly DNFing all the others. To lift my little partner Unicorngirl's spirits, told her this will be an easy one and she lit up and ran up to make this first Find on our trip.
Out for a days caching on Rangitoto and akld with Hegenor.
The main focus on Rangitoto was the GIO's and I wanted one certain one for my matrix as well.
We thought that the allotted time we had (6 hours) would be enough but due to the rather "obscure" or weird and "evil" placements in my opinion of the GIO's we could only do four of them and some trad's along the way. We didn't make it to the top either but all in all it was a enjoyable experience. Nice easy find. Thanks for the cache.

I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide.
I noticed the GIO-series before I left Norway 3 months ago, and really loved the idea of this challenge. I started my qualificatios immediately and worked towards these caches, planning to come to Rangitoto at the end and collect the caches. I met thegreatauk at an event in Northland in the beginning of my travel, and since he would be in Auckland when I'm flying out, we planned to come here together. Today was my last full day in New Zealand, so this was the big day to collect all the caches. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned, we were expecting the caches to come after another, so that we could pick up most of the caches in the series, and then continue to the top of the island. Instead we were walking 20 kilometers back and forth without much views, because the caches were planted in what I would say an "evil" way. We walked and walked, back and forth, and once we had collected the first 4 in the series, time was running out and we just had to get back to the boat. I was really disappointed, only being able to collect 4 caches in the series, and not really being able to see Rangitoto.

Our last day in Auckland and we decided to have a ferry to travel one of the islands. Having morning ferry to the Rangitoto (but not morning tour) we had some time to walk around. This cache was in a nice walking distance before walking back for the tour. Cache was found easily. Beautiful birds and landscape was seen in our trip. Thank you for the cache and greetings from Finland.
On a day trip with Yorkshirekiwi83 to gather some of the caches on the east of the island and hopefully some licences. Hint object was quickly spotted and log sign whilst some muggles pass, thanks
KirsTim and I ventured over to the island early this morning for a day of adventure on Rangi. Started off very plesant under cloud cover, occasionally looked like it was going to rain, but no it settled on very hot and sunny. Had a fab day and collected some caches that had been steadily growing over here.
I have known about these caches for some time but hadnt really been using this road when I have ventured over here, today was the day to reticfy this and make quick finds whilst heading back to the ferry. TFTC

#496. Today I went with three muggle friends to Rangitoto after our last trip was abandoned due to torrential rain. There was a bit of rain today after reaching the summit, but it was a great day and I managed to find eight caches! My muggle friends were quite excited about geocaching but don't think I've convinced any of them to sign up for an account.
We went from the ferry terminal up Islington Bay Road, west up to the summit and then took the direct route down back to the ferry.
Another one left for the muggles. I did read the hint to them though, and with that, finding this cache took about two seconds.
Thank you for the cache!

#3180. I had a day of leave available before heading back to Wellington. The day dawned bright and clear so decided a boat trip to Rangitoto was in order. I have a few of the GIO licence series that need to be located and there are plenty of traditionals to find. So arrived on the island at about 10am and with just five and half hours until the last boat home I needed to put my skates on. A really baking hot summers day on the island. Wish I had brought more than 1.5 litres of water with me. Getting really thirsty now. This cache was picked up on the power walk back to the ferry. It was close to the track and luckily it was a quick find. Signed the dry logbook and placed the cache back where found. Thanks for hiding the cache here.
On our way back to the ferry by now and stopped to grab this one on the way down. Very useful hint here helped us find the cache nice and quickly. Quick sign and replaced and on our way. TFTC.
Came here on a day walk in perfect weather to explore some of the tracks around the island, Another quick find. Signed log, TFTC.
Took a group of 9 scouts from whangarei on a tramping camp, spending the first night at the scout bach, then tramping to home bay at motutapu and staying there the second night, tramping back on different tracks and staying in the bach on the thrid/last night. Also walked to the summit (as a night hike) and flax point as part of exploring the island and collect 17 caches over these 4 days with the kids who really got into it.

I came up to Auckland for a few days to catch up with friends, and have a bit of a deserved break from work!!
Day five. I had pretty much just after arriving in Auckland qualified for the last of the licence series. And so it was time to do a major ticking off!!
I planned to spend Monday on Rangitoto - no early sailing, but friends that I was visiting work weekdays, so weekday it had to be.
Plotted out a route, and hoped to get all 20 licence caches that I was still missing - quite funny that I FTFed the first one, and then sort of forgot about the rest!! Plus of course all the nearby trads.
However being 25 weeks pregnant by this point, I didn't quite take into account how tough crawling around on scoria bending over all day lifting rocks and bushes would be!!!
Didn't take too long to spot this one - though initially I did go to far in, so it wasn't till I turned around that it was all obvious!

JDScout and I went to Rangitoto Island with our 2 muggle friends. We had a great time walking around the island. After lunch at the top it was fun still finding geocaches.

So glad these few caches were along the road as I came back from the summit, where I completely forget to look for a cache or two. Loved that the container was a good size and that such a generous hint was provided.
On duty travel from New Caeledonia - nice place this Rangitoto!

Had got to the middle of the island looking for the GIO Caches so thought I might as well find this one too. And the "natural gateway" lead me straight to the hide. TFTC
Another nice quick find here in the likely spot. Initially came off the track too early but soon found myself in the right spot and the cache was in hand without any bother. Nice little series of caches along the road here - TFTC
Our first cache to be found on the Islands today. Our main aim was to explore and pick up caches on Motutapu today however we had some remnant caches from our last visit to Rangitoto to obtain and this was one of them. A quick find.

In Auckland for a few days work. I deliberately arranged to be here over the weekend to catch up with two of my kids studying at Auckland Uni, and to spend a day on Rangitoto. My intention was primarily to find a few more of the GLS series, but I left the info behind. Instead I chose to collect as many of the other caches as I could. This was the twenty seventh of 31 found today. TFTC.

Found on our way back to the wharf after doing some of the high terrain caches for our latest GIO licence. Pen in cache no longer works so we took it with us to throw away. Nice quick find! TFTC

First visit to New Zealand with Lorriebird. We met up with Agazo and took the ferry out to this island for the day. Had a great time hiking and exploring around the island. Looked in one spot then tried another. Got it - Thanks!
We loved the hint since it gave us so much more information than the cache name. Lorriebird and I followed our GPSr into the moss, but ZSteve found a second possibility a bit farther up the road and made the find. TFTC.
We didn't really need a vocabulary lesson for this one. Luckily we knew what 'mossy rocks' meant! [^] Thanks for the smiley!
Struggled with GPS and was looking in the wrong place. I had given up and was going to report a "did not find". Then just a few steps up the road, I thought "maybe here???" Yes, log signed, thank goodness now I can declare that today has been 100% finds. TFTC
Found it once we waited for the GPS to catch up and get accurate, nice cache in great condition.
