Day 1 of our two day adventure doing the Rail Trail with BearCache #25Total found so far: 23Yet another bridge findQuickly found, signed, and returned, then onto the next
Thank you for the cache. Out on the trail with PomTom44. Hopefully someone is able to adopt the trail as will be a shame to see it archived. Great series of caches.
Out and about with the shoebs family once again.A nice, quick, easy, find, grab, sign, and flee.TFTC
Biked part of the HRT today, starting at Paeroa and heading towards Thames. Turned around after 17kms and headed back. We searched for 20 caches and were successful with 16. We suspect that some of our 4 DNFs were actually missing, ones that should have been simple finds. Interesting that quite a number of caches along this trail haven’t been found for four or five months. Would’ve thought a “power trail” like this would be a real drawcard to cachers wanting to bump up their numbers!
A reasonably quick find. #5885. TFTC.

Found this after a bit of a search!!! About to give up & aha! Replaced as found TFTC
Found with DeadRockFlower on our bike to Thames. Hopefully the first of a few today. Beautiful weather. Tnlnsl. Tftc!!
Staying in Bowentown and the weather is awful. Heard a rumour that a drive through the Karangahake gorge would produce good weather. The rumour turned out to be true
Parked up in Paeroa and went for a ride with Ms M.
More contortions required to get in position for an easy find. TFTC

Mr P and I had the best time, biking, finding caches and just enjoying the area. Highly recommended. T4tc
Out for another day cycling part of the HRT - today from Kopu to Paeroa and back. Today the weather is overcast and perfect for cycling. Glad we got out caching today before the country went back into lockdown as of 6am the next morning. Quick find here. Thanks to Trampingkiwi for replacing the log which were able to sign.
Bit of a scramble and soon had the cache in hand. Left a sheet of waterproof paper as a replacement log. TFTC
The Hauraki Rail Trail is closed while the Covid 19 rahui is in place. Anyone geocaching during this time is putting themselves and others at risk by handling the containers, stash and logs. So this cache is disabled until this present emergency ends. I reserve the right to disable any logs dated after the lockdown started.
Mrs rattll was back on the trail this morning with the intention of riding through to Te Aroha.
Lots more people on the trail during the day time, which meant having to check carefully for oncoming muggles in both directions before starting the search.
No problems making the find here, although as the previous finder mentioned, the logs pretty wet. I tried to etch my name into it.
I left a pet rock - a panda.
Thanks for putting it here to entice me along this trail

Lots of little lizards here as we walked down to retrieve the container log very wet and almost mush very hard to sign. TFTC
Found it on my first trip on HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. 55km bike journey on Easter Sunday! Thanks for bringing me here, for great joy , for great hides.
All good at GZ.

After walking the trail for about an hour and seeing no one else at all, just as we arrived at GZ we spotted cyclists approaching from both directions.
We didn't have time to look for the cache until they had passed so we pretended to be taking photos until thy had all passed.
Fortunately we made a quick find when the coast was clear.

A hot day exploring the trail between Kopu and Paeroa and finding a few caches enroute. Damp log. TFTC.
Todays mission was a short re-run from Hikutaia back towards Paeroa, to pick up caches missed on a previous run through here. Much more success today, we really have figured out when to stop, by using the car GPS mounted on the bike. Anyway we had fun today picking up each of the caches. SL. TFTC.
Unusual to see a hedgehog out and about in the middle of the day ... but we did. All adding to our Rail Trail experience - not many more to go now before we're back in Paeroa.
Once more on a day trip with NZPatoto in her motorhome, with bikes on the back to complete part of the Paeroa to Thames Rail Trail. Started in Paeroa and went towards Thames. Set out to find 19 smiles. Achieved 17 and 2 DNF. #13 of 19 Found by NZPatoto. Was easy to get there but I forgot to stop. Had to backtrack by which time NZPatoto and made another easy find. Log signed and on our way TFTC
Nahkins and I put the bikes on the motorhome and set off to Paeroa with the intention of finding the HRT caches from Paeroa to Bridge 19 Thames direction. Had beautiful ice cream at the Cafe. Also did the "Bowls Anyone" while we were close. Had 19 caches. Got 17 smiles and 2 DNF. We had another look at the DNF on way back but no success. Another quick find for me. Signed log, more s and on our way.
Nice to get in the shade a bit here, was about to give up when almost stepped on it hiding in the long grass on the ground. Placed back up in a more suitable place. TFTC
Updating my new geo account with my old finds. Geokid has grown out of the geo adventures, but I'm still keen! Found as thebrownehornet but not logged, with keylev and Team SEAC and finally logging 02 04 2024 as NurseDr.
A group of us arranged to ride this leg (Kopu to Pearoa) of the HRT as it was the only leg not done by our group, but we see another leg was opening today....soooo maybe some more caches will be hidden along that route....
Located this one swiftly and without any muggle issues as they were all on the newly opened trail.
Signed in as SEAC17 to save log book space.
Thanks for setting the trail and maintaining it.

This leg of the Hauraki Rail trail from Kopu to Paeroa was the last leg that we needed to complete the whole series. Mrs Keylev suggested that we do this and it just happened to be her birthday. This coincided with the opening of another section of the trail from Kopu to Miranda! There were lots of cyclists there for this but we basically had the section from Kopu to Paeroa to ourselves.
A well maintained series with only ONE DNF!!
We signed the log as SEAC17 to save log paper.
We stopped for lunch at the Convenient Cow where we all seized up and getting back on the bikes afterwards was a mission. Total 30 Ks biked and even the younger cachers did the whole lot. An awesome day!
When is the Kopu to Miranda leg going to be populated Vectis

The SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) started this set of trails around 2 years ago. Life got in the way and this was the only one we had not yet done so we decided to finally do something about it.
We had not realised a new section of the track was opening today so the start of the trail was really busy at Kopu but then other then only a couple of muggles we pretty much had the trail to ourselves.
It was a great day, aside from the very strong wind, sore legs and sunburn.
Thanks for the cache.

Day 2 on the e-bikes with gernita to pick up this HRT power trail. Thanks for placing it.
On our day2 HRT cycling adventure with Beconaze. Log quite soggy. Signed log as Gernaze. TFTC
It's great to see so many well constructed bridges on this trail....pleasing to find this well placed cached quickly ...signed and replaced ....cleaned out the wasp nest that was attached near the placement ....thanks Vectis for the cache
Oh no, I had to negotiate B22 without stopping lol. Another good hide, thanks Vectis.
I was out for the day cycling the Hauraki Rail Trail with the kids and picking up a few caches along the way (alas not all of them as there just wasn't enough time ) This was the eighth find of the day and right where Trolls normally hide TFTC!
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
But no almost the complete opposite, so after getting bike and body sorted it was to the start we went and ride the HRT trail, we started in thames and the plan was to ride to te aroha if the body allowed.
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

10.40am. I think this is the last one. I have now visited every cache on the rail trail. But there were two DNF for which I will return. A favourite point here for this section of the trail.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
We were out with Agazo biking the HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. A great bike ride and legs were jelly by the end of the day
Was feeling a bit guilty about signing the bridge, so I dropped off a replacement cache while on the way home from Thames...
Today the Squirrel and I decided we would try and clear the remainder of the HRT Trail, so we walked and biked section to complete this, starting at the Te Aroha and heading to Paeroa. Once this leg was done we went to the Thames end and back to Paeroa. Caches were found fairly quickly with the hints given. We replaced 2 very wet log sheets with new ones and one where cache container was missing. Improvised and found a large piece of timber and used as log sheet, hopefully owner will replace. SLTFTC (Made a new log sheet here)
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...
We've been wanting to complete the HRT for a while now. We've picked up parts of this trail over several visits, and now we're left with the more 'out of the way' hides. We have no choice but to bike these sections. It's going to be a long ride between caches...
This troll has obviously gone on holiday... I was reminded of this Shrek quote... "He endured blistering winds and scorching deserts - he climbed the highest bloody room of the tallest bloody tower - and what does he find?" Nothing... So what does one do in the absence of a log? Sign the bridge... No doubt we'll be back when this one is replaced...

Down from Auckland today to cache in Thames then this HRT trail. Caching with 2 keen cachers supernanny and harisree and we're working our way south to Paeroa. we have 3 bikes, but as it turned out it was a lot easier using 2 of the bikes for the girls and I do the driving and make them hot drinks from time to time as they showed up, we would snack together then carry on. It seemed to work well. I did caches close to the roads and they did the rest.
Oh yes ! Yet another troll home ......all good ....log signed and on to next one !
Tftc. A quick find here, once we had circumnavigated the active wasp nest. cache was easily spotted, having fallen from its hidey spot.
A group of us met to tackle the HRT Thames to Paeroa leg of caches, including ourselves, yorkshirekiwi83, KirsTim, Tikitour and Vistra. We signed as the EasterBs (bunnies, or bikers? We couldn't decide). The ride took us longer than anticipated, but it still made for a great day of caching with some fantastic company.
A quick find while on route. Thanks to everyone who has placed all the caches along the trail today. We really appreciate all your hard work!

Earlier in the year, tikitour and I decided we would team up and cycle the whole Hauraki Rail Trail over the long Easter weekend and look for all the caches along the way. On Good Friday we did the Thames to Paeroa leg and we were joined by yorkshirekiwi83, vamber and kirstim. The weather was overcast today and luckily the rain held off until the end of the day - we had a great day out! This cache was soon found along the way. TFTC!

Headed down south for a long weekend of cycling, walking and of course caching. Teamed up with Vistra for the three days and were joined by 6 others on the Friday. Started here from Thames heading down to Paeroa on day one of the HRT. There are a group of 8 of us so we have signed the log as a group the Easter B's to save log room. Thanks for the cache.(sorry about the same log).
Joined up with Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83, Vistra & Tikitour to hit the HRT Thames to Paeroa bike ride. A long but successful trip, with all but 1 cache signed. Weather held off with only a few spits of rain, thanks for laying all these caches.
A group of us met to combat the HRT Thames to Paeroa section, there was myself, Vamber, KirsTim, Tikitour and Vistra and we signed as the EasterB's. Took us longer than we expected but had a great ride, fabulous company and was a great day overall.
Nice quick find, thank you to all who laid caches out along the trail TFTC

I believe Mr TNX found this one first, clambering under the bridge, after taking off his backpack to fit.
Found with a crew of four, consisting of TNX Pro, KiwiMikeBOP, Tony S and myself. Log signed as DMTM for Dave, Mike, Tony, Matt.

Today was the day to attack the final leg of the Rail Trail - the last part that I had left to do. I sent out the smoke signals and it was answered by Kiwimikebop, Splattynz and his father Tony. S. Log signed as DMTM for Dave, Mike, Tony, Matt.

The call went out from TNXPro for the final leg of the HRT we had left to do, so of course I could not miss this opportunity. Had a fantastic day out with TNX, Splatty and his Dad Tony. The weather was amazing and company great. Thank you to all the owners of the caches we found today
good to get a quick find after a dnf before

It's getting a tad late. So am pleased am nearly back to our motel. Been enjoying this cycle trail and my new bikes great.
Meant to be raining today but it wasn't and I had the day off, so twisted the muggle hubbie's arm and we biked up part of the Paeroa-Thames trail in between milkings and naturally found a few caches on the way! I thought that it might have been a little more rolling here instead of dead flat but that was an incorrect assumption. Had a strong headwind on the way there (to the café!) so of course we cruised back to Paeroa after lunch. TFTC - made the bike ride much more interesting. This cache was out in the open - maybe a strong wind had displaced it?? Anyway I have replaced it where I thought that it probably should be
I only decided that I would do part of the Hauraki Rail Trail at 2300 hrs last night when I heard that rain and showers were going to start on Thursday and last until the weekend. So where could I go tomorrow for a good caching run. The HRT won the prize.
Found it.
Cheers for the cache.

Saw plenty of wasps around today, but the ones here at GZ seemed extra waspy so decided not to take my chances and come back another time instead.
