An informative cache in one of the most iconic spots of the east Pilbara. We completed the required tasks and have sent our answers off to the CO. Thanks Moneybox for brining us out here once again
Spent a couple of nights in town and exploring the surrounds. Checked this out while here. TFTC
Found with e.gregory1 as we made our way along the Great Northern Highway on a trip from Adelaide to north-western WA. After camping out about 20 km south, we spent the morning around Newman before heading northwards. Thanks for the informative earthcache Moneybox!
Found on a trip to Western Australia from Adelaide with FeatherWaite. After camping south of Newman last night, we continued to make our way north, finding caches of interest along the way.The required information was gathered to complete the earthcache tasks and our responses were prepared and sent to the CO. Thanks Moneybox for another interesting earthcache.
In the town for work so took the work car to cache. Answers kind of obtained and sent. Pic attached as proof. Spent many years chasing Moneybox caches well south of here. I was surprised to see that name here. TFTC
On arrival at Newman, we were straight into learning about iron ore, mining, rocks and the like thanks to the earthcache. Answers sent to CO. Tftec
This is a very cool Earthcache as it makes you stop where there is a very cool haul truck but also a concise and clear lesson in the types of iron ore and their differences. Thanks for placing-----Decided to do a long road trip, flying in from Canberra, starting and finishing the drive in Port Hedland. It was a long day of flights, followed by 7 days of lots of kilometres. I stopped at every 'point of interest' along the way, I wanted to miss nothing! Earthcaches, Virtuals & AL's are always very good waypoints for interesting things as well.Every night I downloaded a bunch of podcasts and these made the kilometres fall away. This was the first outback road trip I have done where I saw more emu's than kangaroos. The wild camels walking in the desert were also very cool to see. My trusty swag served me very well.
This cache was visited by Geo Daughter A and her husband who are living in Newman at the momentGreat to grab a cache in far north Western AustraliaAnswers sent to the ownerTFTC
Visiting Newman for a bit and thought I'd get out and about - albeit it in the extreme heat. TFTC
Back on holidays chasing the sun, travelling around and collecting a few caches on our way. Stop here for a break to grab the three caches located here. Thanks for placing the earthcache for us to learn something new. Thanks for adding to the enjoyment of holiday.
Impressive! Massive WOW factor here with plenty of stats to overwhelm. Equally good is the beaut ‘geo-lesson’ in iron ore of the Pilbara. Arrived late this arvo and jumped on trusty treadles to start exploring Newman TFTC !
Travelling up north following the sun and arrived to Newman today. It's nice to notice that the weather is getting warmer. This was an interesting earthcache. Thanks for education and the cache!
Our Lap has brought us to Newman, originally coming to town to get our car serviced but it seems Newman Toyota doesn’t communicate real well and we’re actually unable to do our service as booked - insert nasty words here. Anyway this gave us more time to explore and have ‘A whale of a time!’ A big truck is always a highlight and an earth cache as equally interesting, Moneybox always manage to teach us something and on this occasion they didn’t disappoint. We completed the specific gravity test in our caravan, our results supported our hypothesis and were not too far off ‘correct’. Being a school day this was science done for the day.
Thanks Moneybox a fav from us

We had fun doing the experiment, it was interesting, thanks Moneybox, Mum has sent the answers for me
Interesting spot, nice to see the two types of iron ore clearly set out TFTC & education!
Answers sent and logged with CO’s permission.
An excellent interactive Earthcache! Favourite point added.
The traffic was banked up today on the highway due to an accident at the Marble Bar Rd.
TFTeC Moneybox - another ripper!!

It is fascinating all this mining stuff, the science and money behind it all is just staggering. Thanks for teaching me something about the ore mined here.
Found while filling in time this afternoon in Newman. I do enjoy earthcaches as it’s always good to learn something new. This one was both informative and simple enough for me to figure out by myself. TFTC
Day seven of our travels north brought us into Newman. We weren’t successful at finding many traditional caches in Newman but atleast we could complete this earthcache learning a little more about the earth sciences.
This was interesting to learn about the local rocks and mining history. We got the cache in the haul pack as well while we were here. TFTC
An over night stay in newman for kiwinic and i and a few grabs in the morning. We completed this earthcache and learned some kool stuff along the way. Thanks for placing this cache here
Really enjoyed finding the readily available answers to this earthcache. A great location . Tftc

So I visited the COs on my way south from Newman. Shortly after arriving at there place, I collected my sample rocks from out of the car and proceeded to experiment in their kitchen. There was water going everywhere and wet rocks on the sink, but with the data I collected I was able to provide the COs with accurate specific gravities for both samples.
Thanks Moneybox for providing an interesting earthcache that although not challenging my mind too much, I thoroughly enjoyed.

Was at this site yesterday looking for the cache on the truck. Knew there was an earthcache here too but it was lunch time and we needed to get in to town for supplies so left it until the way back in this morning. Stayed last night at the Oasis caravan park just out of town. Twenty dollars for an unpowered site [40 with power] and free showers and washing machines and dryers. They even provided the washing powder and fabric softener!!!
Didn't take too long to gather the required information here.
Thanks. An interesting, well set out place to welcome you to the town.

After a lot of planning, geoson Xpert_Cacher and I are off on a camping road trip up north. 8 days of driving, exploring, Geocaching and camping in swags. The plan has us travelling nearly 5000km grabbing plenty of caches and crossing off a pile of LGAs.
Day 4 - After doing a bit better than we planned yesterday and making it to Newman, our day started with grabbing a few caches around the mining town. We then headed to Karijini and then onto Tom Price for the night.
An interesting earth cache. Thanks for the learning. Answers sent soon.

Part II from Meekatharra to York! Were we have planned 3 nights for exploring the Avon Valley! Of course we logged some caches to make the long way back enjoyable. Some caches were on beautiful spots. Thanks again to all the co's for placing!

Day 9 of my trip from Perth, Exmouth ,port Samson , Newman to Mt Fisher ... I Thanks to all the COs for placing caches along my journey ......
Interesting place, Newman should have a competition 'Guess the number of rocks in each cage',
Muggle has a 5 day weekend, well 4.5 days after he got some sleep from finishing work at 1am Thursday so we thought we'd take Bruce along on a road trip and grab the old cache here and there
After a lot of kilometers with not many caches we were looking forward to exploring Newman and also hopefully collecting a few smiles.
We really enjoy earth caches and Moneybox has added heaps of information and caches along our trip this year for which we are really thankful. We pulled up at an unexpected location and headed off to gz. We have to say that we really enjoyed the hands on lesson making it quite a learning experience. We collected the required information and emailed it off to the CO.
Many thanks Moneybox not only for this great earth cache but we go to get up close and personal with an interesting piece of machinery and learnt quite a bit about that as well.
A definite favourite point from us.

Camping near Newman for a couple of days and trying to collect some of the local caches. Found this one (a bit hard to miss) just on sundown. A couple of the rocks were loose in the cage and I was AMAZED how heavy they were when I lifted one. Answers are on their way to the CO. TFTC Moneybox
Day ten and eleven of Barnzy12 and Cravo10 adventure to the Northwest of WA, filling out boots with LGAs, rare DT, old caches, and good old fashioned red dirt!
Day 9 We travelled from Newman to Mount Magnet via Meekatharra, Wiluna, sandstone, cue and many a place in between to pickup a couple of harder to reach LGAs and get numbers up for the trip.
We were lucky enough to pickup four FTFs in Meekatharra that had managed to go unfound for a reasonable time so we nabbed all of them. A nice little stat to add to the list.
We made some large scale detours to Wiluna and Sandstone to pickup two more LGAs that are a little hard to pickup from our Perth homebase.
We racked up over 1000km for the day and finished up grabbing caches along the mount magnet tourist drive by torchlight to end an epic day.
Day ten saw us up at 5am to cleanup the granites series of caches, before making the 600 plus kilometre journey back to our home of Perth.
Overall it's been a huge trip with 200plus caches found, a dozen or so LGAs picked up, 6500km travelled, 11 days of non-stop caching and tourist activities, 6 FTFs, countless containers fixed, logs replaced, pathtags dropped off.
Thanks to all the COs for their caches which made the trip possible.
Nice EC here. Thanks moneybox again for a nice Geo stop.

In the fading light of the day I wandered around collecting the necessary answers and playing with bits of rock. Thanks Moneybox for this Earth Cache as I learned that there is more to iron ore than I realised.

I was in Newman for a couple of days and decided to try my first ever Earthcache. Thank you for the informative journey whilst I was here.
Amazing truck ! We went to see it with Mortimer (who sent the answers to the owner for us) during our way back to Perth. It was really unexpected to be in Newman but no regrets, we learnt so much there about mining!
Hi there Moneybox.
We logged your Earthcache **"A Tale of a Whale"** at 12:24:00 PM today. This cache makes our find count 14283.
We are travelling from Darwin to Geraldton via the inland route - Newman, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, etc. & thoroughly enjoyed our tour around Newman today, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

I visited Newman for the first time today
A towne with a short history, yet rather long in the Iron Ore mining business
You just know this is a mining towne as soon as you get close.
The sight of Mount Whaleback, the long trains full of reddish pebbles and the great big haul truck sitting next to the road give the game away
I parked the geomobile and wandered around for a sticky beak.
An Earthcache beckoned ...
... and I was soon examining a pile of rocks in a cage for clues
Answers to hand, I wandered over to see the star attraction
A big truck for sure !!
Not as big as the one at the tourist info centre though [:o]
Thanks for the Earthcache and a chance to revise me iron ore mining knowledge [^]
I have a very colourful bit of BIF back at home in Adelaide that makes a good door stop.
It came from down Norseman way though

The big move from Townsville, QLD to Mandurah, WA. After thousands of km's and lots of caching to keep us entertained, we have finally arrived in Newman and enjoy a few days rest with family before continuing on the last stretch.
Loved learning a bit about the different Iron Ore and the specifications of the nearby Haul Pack Truck!

A second day was required for my training course in Newman, so I made sure to leave half an hour early to allow me to grab the required info here to log my find. I enjoyed learning about the mineral that my company actually mines. TFTC Moneybox, I have sent an email with my answers. Fave point from me here.
Nice walk from Kalgans Rest, but don't try to find this one at night too hard even with torch. May try again tomorrow!
Out on our travels with pprass . With staying in the campsite jPeter and I checked one nearby and then took to this one. Lots of info, can't say I understand all the info but I know more than I did before.

We were there at 2:34 PM in the company of xambo4u.
This whole place is just one big mine operation! There are storage areas and workshops right in the town! I still don't understand though why some spots are mined and others are not. Isn't this whole Pilbara area iron ore rich? Or is it that some spots have a better concentration than others?
Thanks Moneybox.

Love these educational caches, thanx Moneybox I am travelling & if I don't log this I will surely forget to over time.TFTC
I was alerted to this cache when it was published, so it was just a waiting game as to when i had the opportunity to travel the relatively short distance from where i work at Christmas Creek Mine to examine GZ and answer the questions .
With an injured truck needing some TLC at Newman, it was my chance to have a go at this cache at a very familiar GZ . I took a heap of photos and played with some rocks at the time while i was there, as i wasn't sure when i would have the time to log this cache. So with the correct answers, and permission from the CO, i am logging this cache now ... quite a few weeks later.
I enjoyed learning a bit more about the ore that we mine where i work, so thanks for an informative E/C ... i now know that we mine Goethitic iron ore .
Thanks for the fun Moneybox ... and TFTC [^]

Was up in Newman for work and had just found the two recently released jasenjanine caches when did a "find nearby caches" to look at my filled Newman map.
"Where did this blue dot come from ?"
Upon further reading, I discovered this earthcache had been published (must do something about my notifications !!)
Made my way to GZ. I had not been here since they had bought the truck in and updated the signs.
Worked my way through my assignment, took a photo and submitted my answers.
If I have not fulfilled correctly, please delete my log.
A fav point from me.
Cheers for the earthcache money box. Looking forward to a south west trip to grab some of your creations.
