The cache was sticking up in full view. Cache and log are good. I covered the cache better to hide it, and also to protect it more from the sun. An unusual cloud as I drove out of Charlton. Photograph. TFTC strange quark1.
After a lovely weekend shared with fellow cachers camping at Lake Wooroonook, its time to head home caching as we go. This was found on the journey home with Tenkae. And Im usually wrong!Thank youstrange quark1 for bringing us out here, showcasing this lovely area, contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails!
Camping in the area meant an afternoon caching run with Micaparamedic and Tiz13 taking some of the roads less traveled! A quick one here. Thanks
The rain was to stay but that didn't detour GemmaSistema micaparamedic and Tiz13 from heading out for some caching shenanigans following the nearby event. This was one of the caches on our hit list.
Another day around St Arnaud with LittleBoss2 and Geo the puppy. This was a quick find, thanks SQ1
Found with my favs Bogonghazy and Geo dog. Lovely Sunday out finding some caches in the area. Thanks for placing the geocache
It was buried but I managed to dig it out-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Found on a quick trip around Victoria to mop up all of the counties I was missing. Had my new swag so stayed in caravan parks so I could sleep while the car charged. Was at almost 100% charge every morning, and the nights camping cost about the same as a full charge at a supercharger anyway.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.
**Thanks to strange quark1 for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

Three Day Melbourne Dash
Day Two: St. Arnaud to Melbourne.
Weather: hot, hot, hot!
I was back at “I’m A Bit Tanked” and noticed that the other side of the river was Buloke LGA, so in I went for the two caches at Yawong. This was the first. I’m guessing that it has been all the recent rain that has resulted this cache becoming almost cemented in place. Rather than risking breaking it, I opted to just unscrew the lid and extract the log without moving the cache. This one shouldn’t creep or go missing!
Thanks for the cache strange quark1.

We are heading home from Charlton via St Arnaud and stopping for a few caches on the way. This was a quick find. Thanks to strange quark1 for the cache.
On a camping road trip and we are now staying at Wooroonook Lake. Today we made a trip into St Arnaud to get some supplies, have a look around and pick up a few caches. We decided to return to Wooroonook Lake via Charlton and stopped on the way to pick up this cache. It was Mr Pooky who jumped out of the Geo4WD and made a quick find. TFTC.
Day 19 of our southern trip. Caching around St Arnaud and winding our way back to Charlton. Targeting challenges and fulfilling some of those challenges as well as well as adventure labs and hopefully some night caches.

Second day in St Arnaud with RoddyC, hatzofff & grannysmith1947 (To save space on logs, we have signed as Team 44 QLD)
Wow, this town sure has some wonderful caches on offer and so pleased we made the decision to come here whilst on our journey to SA.
Same as yesterday, almost all caches were in great order and were a pleasure to find. Appreciate all the hard work that the CO's have put in placing these hides. Will be highly recommending my friends to put St Arnaud on their must-do list.
Another one found on our way home today, took longer than usual to find but after reading past logs we starting digging and sure enough, there it was!

Heading to St Arnaud and Ararat on our Victorian winter holiday today. Had to do some work to find the container under the ants home. SL at 12.44pm Only one space left on the log sheet. #8053 TFTC strange quark1
Enjoying an extended weekend out camping again with the group now that regional Victoria is open. Today was earmarked as caching day. On the hit list are some multis, DNF redemptions, ad labs and solved puzzles as well as countless “just one more” caches.
Needed one more cache in the Buloke LGA and this was the closest! A quick find.
Thanks strange quark1 for the cache.

K9team[:X] and Ghihash were going to St Arnaud and I got to tag along too[^]
A 4 day trip during which I found 94 geocaches, had 1 DNF which was later remedied with the CO's approval[^] and I only had to 'write note' on 1 of the 50 challenge caches that were found
We camped in the caravan park[^] the first two nights and then Rex and I camped up the top of a hill the 3rd night[|)][^][|)] after our friends had left for home Although that was fun trying to direct the RACV to the Corolla the following morning, when the less than a year old RAA supplied battery wouldn't start the Corolla!
There was rain, there was cold, there was lots of laughs and the best weekend I've had away for a long time![:X][^][:X]
16 caches attempted today in our great little group
1 DNF on the last atempted cache for the day and the other 15 were finds
We chose the right one so we weren't Yawong at all!

Heading away for a weekend of caching in St Arnauds with Ghihash, Locus Cache and the pups.
We managed to doge the rain over the weekend and stay dry and warm; and still get 50 caches and only have one minor miss hap where we miss judged how close a pole was to the car oops
Ghihash knocked up 400caches and we managed to get a couple of the night caches done

After my usually busy Christmas and Boxing Day I was able to hit the road for a 1 week break which I was looking forward to and I had plans on where I was going to.
Then a couple of muggle friends suggested we head away together and my plans changed for the first time.
So we had a trip planned to NSW and all was going great.
Then our plans were changed with what was happening in NSW so we picked a spot on the map and that was Hopetoun.
The silo art up this way is something that we had been looking at for a while so now we had our trip planned.
Came up through Nullawil and Sea Lake to see those silos then headed west to start the silos that I haven’t done yet and we stayed at Hopetoun for a few days to visit the rest of them.
It was time to head towards home and after stopping in Woomelang for some great art then Birchip, got to Donald in a very roundabout way and finally reaching my destination for the next couple of nights St Arnaud.
Last time I was up here it was for the Mega so it was good to be back up hear to clear out a few more caches.
Now a good story would be that I spent a lot of the lockdown solving a lot of puzzles but with a lot of help I had the final coords for some more.
A nice day dawned after all of the rain that we had last night and I was not sure what the tracks would be like but there was only one way to find out.
Good thing about satellite maps is that it shows you a lot of tracks that don’t appear on normal maps.
Needed a break from bouncing around a lot of the tracks around town so it was time to head up the Hwy to find a few trads.
Called in at the Yawong Weir and after checking on those 2 I pulled up here to locate this one.
I thought I might be in trouble as there is a lot of fallen trees and branches everywhere all over fence but luckily the cache is intact.
Thanks strange quark1 TFTC.

Welcome back from Covid. If there are issues with the cache after the length of time in situ please message me.

Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.
I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.
I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.
I apologise for the inconvenience.

Day 10 of our epic trek to the St Arnaud Mega via Geelong and return via wherever the caches are.
The constant was my travel companion for the entire trip, - Anymules but we were joined by other cachers in our travels.
With the Mega event finished we continued caching around Bendigo where we were based for a few days. The GPS died and was trying to learn this app as we cached.
Today we started on the journey home following unfound caches on the map. Where will we finish tonight?
Another quick park and grab.
Thanks for putting out this cache for our enjoyment.

This morning I was one of the chauffeurs for Capital Crunchers - Joolay, Kittykatch Gliss and barb2e, as we headed out to wrap up signing the Challenge caches. This is one of the trads we found on the way. Now comes the real challenge of logging them.

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.
FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.
Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).
On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.
Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.
We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.
Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. Once we did a loop through Stuart Mill, we did a final drive around the town vicinity finding caches. Just prior to the final GIFF event, and after completing Mount Gowar's cluster of caches, we did a final drive around the area, and then called into Yawong Weir Reserve. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks strange quark1 for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Twelve months ago as we finished the Parkville Mega we were advised by someone that the next Victorian Mega event would be held in Saint Arnold. Somebody else told us that the Mega event would be held in Saint Arnood. And then another said that Saint Arned was the Mega event venue. Who should I believe? Struggling to understand the English language at the best of time. Freddo speaks two languages, Australian and Bad English.
Move forward a year. There is a cluster of events, including a MEGA event, at this town called St Arnaud burning a hole in my GPSr. The big white Pay Hero is loaded with GPSr, TOTT and camping gear and we headed east with a collaboration of like minded South Australian colleagues. DavidWazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, freddo and Gridge98 make team DEFF98.
Thursday: 5am event at a bakery in North Adelaide. The bed wetter team meets and says that this is way too early. Travel 500km east for the Thursday evening event. Freddo gets a prize. I am no mug. Camping in the bush under the stars.
Friday: Up early and headed out on the trails. And then back to our campground for a CITO! I am sure we did not make that much mess last night. More trails and 200 caches find for the day including a cluster of caches where freddo left DNA. More bush camping after a great meal in the Sporting Club.
Saturday: Up early for an event. Who puts an event on at 8am. Damn South Australians that’s who. After the event it was back on the trails and the Pay Hero is getting dustier and dustier. Found some awesome caches. Freddo the metallurgist was very impressed with the welding. Quality fabrication. And then another CITO. This time at the dump. Plenty of rubbish here. Some of it good stuff. Can I take some home? And finally a giant queue for a free meal. Nothing attracts a crowd like a free meal. The moment of the evening was receiving a Hall of Fame nomination. That prize is going straight to the pool room.
Sunday: Another night camping in the bush. Some fabulous night caches walks were undertaken. Night caching is a special form of entertainment. We spent the day cruising around picking up the left over unfound caches and meeting heaps of new friends. Boycotted the GIFF event since it did not show the freddo film “Cache Confusion” https://vimeo.com/372568752. One minute and forty four seconds of your life you won’t get back. A quick speech and it was back on the road for home. Well Horsham. More camping. This time by a river.
Monday: Caches around Horsham and following the Duke’s Highway back to Adelaide. Time for a shower for this smelly geocacher. An exhausted chocolate frog slept well.
We came, we cached, we ate, we slept; repeat for five days of fun and dust.

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!

Staying in St Arnaud for the week for the mega.
A few last-minute caches to make more smilies in the area, before heading home tomorrow.
Picked the right one of the two possible hide locations.
Thanks for bringing us here by placing and maintaining this cache, strange quark1

I have never had the opportunity to cache in St Arnaud before but after this weekend I will definitely be back.
Cheers for the cache and adding to the great weekend of caching fun.

A quick stop here on the way back into st arnaud, cache is all good
What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.
Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.
Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.
Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.
Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.
Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.
Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

A weekend of caching with AlphaDeltaIndigo and Ying-Yang in St Arnaud, along with a heap of other people. We stayed at Wedderburn, and commuted to St Arnaud each day, and what an amazing area this was to cache in! We very much enjoyed our trip to the Northern Grampians Shire! My fifth Victorian Mega (sixth overall) and can't wait to come back next year and do it again!
This was find number 10 of 13 for the day for me. TFTC strange quark1!

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud mega. Driving from our Charlton accomodation into St Arnaud to attend the first offical day of the mega, we needed a few roadside caches to break the drive. Parked across the road and dashed over for a very quick find. Great views of the country and the windfarms. TFTC strange quark1!

A quick search at GZ soon had the cache in hand and we added our names to the log.
thanks for the cache.
This was the Mega trip that started out as a simple trip to St Arnaud for just the Mega and turned into a mega road trip starting with myself and GooseandEgg flying into Adelaide to collect a rental 4WD so we could drive an indirect route to St Arnaud and then on to Melbourne so we could fly home again.
The Goose had put a lot of planning into the trip so we could both complete or get close to completing our D/T grids, collect a number of good interesting caches and cache types we didn't have many off.
For me this was the best organised Mega I have been to, the stand out was how the committee had managed to get the whole St Arnaud community to welcome us all to the area, just about everyone we meet knew what we were there for and I had no awkward moments explaining what Geocaching was.

When planning the St Arnaud mega trip I was keen to incorporate some missing D/T’s from my grid. Stainless steel rat suggested flying to Adelaide ‘on the way’ and driving across so a route was planned and a fun week of caching began. I cherry picked in my planning so as not to run out of time for the ones I wanted, and we added a few on the day if there was time. We met up with various teams along the way including a planned rendezvous with Tassie Trekkers in Kaniva for a fun days caching. I ended up with around five hundred finds (including labs) for the week, and still had plenty of time for socializing along the way. It was great to catch up with some old friends and of course make new ones.
Special thanks to the St Arnaud mega committee for a great weekend.

Day 3 of the Mega trip with Dr Owl and there was the aim of getting my 12,000th find. Again so many options around here. A plan of sorts was hatched and we were off.

**This Cache:**
We wanted to get the high D/T cache nearby, so also opted to stop in for this cache before grabbing it. Jumped out of the car, ran over, made a quick find and signed the cache before heading off to the other caches in Yawong.
Thanks!
**Today:**
Day 2 of the St. Arnaud mega with DSD and ZQX!
Today's primary goal's were to do the Cutting Laps wherigo, challenge cache trail, CITO event, letterbox's, wherigo's, dinner event, night caches and any other high DT or favourite caches!
It was a long day with the first find at 8am and the last one just before 10pm. Not a single DNF was had and we smashed every goal
Thanks to all the CO's for the effort in placing these caches!

**Traditional Cache Find #2526**
I went to St Arnaud with SteMicMitSar to make some inroads into the caches here prior to the Mega.
Apologies for the generic logs but with over 250 finds for the long weekend, they all tend to blur into one another.
We were up this far collecting an LGA for me and continued on to find this group.

Day 2 of our St.Arnaud Road trip on this long weekend.
Today we are targeting challenges and stars with a few others thrown in here and there.
As we were very close to a new LGA for Mark, we headed a bit further up the road to pick up the three in this area.
A quick find here and back to the other two.

TFTC.We had left St Arnaud this morning heading for a recently published Breakfast event in Donald. We were traveling with Muff1 and were expecting a good day out caching. We were not disappointed.
WE had left Donald and were making our way toward Wedderburn via some caches that Muff1 had not previously found. Along the way they stopped for us as we had not found many caches in the area.
A nice easy find, in a logical location.
