# 1593 Another mission to find a park for the DangerBOY to play in, and was disappointed to find that Harcourt park playground has been completely dismantled and rebuilt. I guess thats what happens during Winter. In any case, as we were here, may as well get the cache for the day. This one was easily found in the first place looked. Not sure how much longer this one should stay around for, its an illegal placement now.
Log sheet full, CO hasnt logged in since 2016, and its an illegal placement on a broadband box... might need to go.
Last one before coffee. Logged date and 4xs for the team where we could squeeze it in.
Out for the day with Bkj97 and Little Blue Hen caching over the Akatarawa Road to Upper Hutt. Some amazing views and fantastic caches. All found signed and returned as we had found it although this really does need a new log as we signed over the top of previous logs. TFTC
Day 2 of our New Years trip up to the North Island. Today we traveled from Upper Hutt through the winding Akatarawa Rd up to Palmerston North. A nice quick find by Mum as she has the eagle eyes for this size. Unfortunately we unrolled the whole log to realize is was full. We took a photo of the cache at GZ (attached) Sorry we dont carry this size log so this one still needs a new logroll. Thanks for the effort involved in placing and creating this cache for all of us to enjoy.
Last day in Welly b4 heading home after the Mega weekend. Lots of fun had, thanks for all the Smiles.
Day five and time to head home to Christchurch. We have flights back in the afternoon after a busy WENZ action packed weekend. Today it's just Bbear44 and Jude_E
Thanks for hiding and maintaining your geocache.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

Day 4 of my visit to Wellington to attend the Mega weekend. Thank you to all of the CO's who put the caches out in the area and preforming maintenance on them before we descended on the area. I look forwards to coming back to the area again in the near future.
Today was picking up challenges and getting caches which I need for my JASMER challenge on the way back to the airport.

We decided we would travel to WENZMEGA via the Wairarapa and return via the Akatarawas, caching along the way, but in a reasonably leisurely, pick and choose kind of way.
It was a great event but we needed to head back home by this afternoon so couldn't quite stay until the end. We headed into the Akatarawas by early afternoon and had pretty good driving conditions, although the road is certainly very narrow in places - an SUV and we had to wriggle slowly to get past one another in one spot! At least it's a sealed road all the way!
This was our final piece of urban art to visit as we headed away. Mrs G actually spotted it from the car as we drew up - it stands out from the background colour. It needs a new log. TFTC

#16231. Quick drive by en route to another letter box. Troodles managed to find a tiny area to write our initials. TFTC.
Out on a eleven cache types in one day mission with iammrwalker and family.
After finding the letterbox here we decided to visit this cache as it was back on the way out.. sure why not! I can't remember if we managed to sign this on or if the logbook was full. Hopefully we managed this without looking too sketchy hah

Well what a great start to te weekend with a truck tipping over on the main motor way and having to detour through Masterton way instead and only just making the Fish and Chip event last night what a great turnout, we were also lucky to of gotten two traditionals while there, then it was time to head off and set up for the night at the Mega event site, but as we got there late there was no parking anywhere for us to park up our caravan and car so we socialized for a couple of hours until we could park up for the labour weekend. Then it was a few hours sleep and then time to get up and attend the Mega event and what a great crowd lining up outside the door at 9am grabbing there bags with lots of goodies coins etc, we purchased some great items from the store there while we waited for the waves to wairapa race to start. so did the wairapa first we teamed up with Rattle geocachers and we came second a great effect done by all. Thank you for putting this traditional out, its helping us gain the 11 different types in one day. A nice quick find cache was all good here we signed the log and placed it back as we found it. TFTC
Teamed up with KGS for the day and our aim was to get all the lab caches, events, and some caches along the way, and we had a ball! TFTC!
WENZ is New Zealand's 5th Mega Event ever and for months I have been anticipating in attending it. It is the first Mega Event that I have ever attended and sadly I could only come for one day, so early on Saturday morning my father and I got in the car and drove our way towards Upper Hutt for a hectic day of geocaching. In the end it was a spectacular day where we managed to found 67 geocaches somehow throughout the whole day, see a lot of new faces, catch up with friends and just have an altogether amazing time.
My biggest aim of the day was to get 11 geocache types in a day, but with so many other goals to get done in just one day, I was quite overwhelmed. Thankfully, TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy04 had the exact same goal today and were glad to help me achieve it. So after the flashmob event we all got into one car and quickly collected the last geocaches we needed to complete this goal.
We were heading towards the letterbox that was further up the road and were passing this geocache so we thought we would quickly try and find it, the geocache was a very easy find since we could see it from the road, the logbook was full so we were unfortunately unable to sign it.

We called in here with Kyb3r during our mission to find eleven different cache types in a day. We had grabbed the Letterbox cache which was accessible from down the road a decided to do a quick park and grab effort on our way past. I found it on my first sweep however we struggled to put our names on the log which was full. I jammed my initials at the top and we took a picture of the log in case there where any issues.
Find number 4228. A quick stop to collect. I spent some time trying to find space for my signature. Squeezed it in. Thank you for the cache.
Nice quick find before being muggled by some fellow geocachers.thanks for the placement.

A quick find and I could see it from the car. The size of the log book is quite small and it will need replacing after the mega. TFTC.
A day trip down to the WENZ 2018 Mega event in Upper Hutt from Palmy to both attend the event and attempt to get 11 different types of cache in one day. Also on the cards was a visit/pilgrimage to GC46 and Mr All7ofusNZ had Jr. Cacher #4 along for the ride.
Did this one on the way to the nearby Letterbox Hybrid and made a quick find. Unfortunately the log was completely full and so took a photo as proof of find. The cache definitely needs a new log. TFTC Jend274.

Found with StreetWalkerNZ and Apty on our quest to find 11 cache types in one day. Mission accomplished by 1pm .
We had a few hours to fill in before the drive by event in Harcourt Park, so time to find a few puzzles etc.
This was a drive by en route to a letter box cache, so we stopped to look and log. TFTC.

Quick find with Flowerydaze during the Mega weekend. Log was full difficult to find a place to write. TFTC
As with many others, one of our main objectives today was to get the 11 different cache types, as well as do the W2W race.
After picking up the nearby letter-box we stopped by here on our way back to head quarters, to start the race.
It was a nice straight forward and quick find, which was really appreciated on such a busy day.
Thanks for setting this up jend274

Quick find at GZ given that we saw it as we pulled up.
Thanks for the placement.
Hopefully a willing cacher will replace the logbook as the CO hasn't logged in for a while... ("Last Visited 29 Apr 16")

A procession to the letterbox accessed from this street means that we grabbed this simple PnG on the way out. No probs here, thanks for the cache Jend274.
Mega Saturday, and Capperz and I have a few goals for the day. All lab caches to solve, plenty of events targeted to get to, and the most different types in a day for me. Add in that a bit of pathtag swapping (finally!), and it was pretty successful.
First mega for me, and loved the experience. Kept bumping into a few familiar faces on our travels and met a few new ones as well. We also didn’t embarrass ourselves at the quiz later on in the evening. Thanks to all COs, especially those keeping maintenance up on their caches especially for the event.

Day 1 of the actual MEGA. It's the Saturday and both ricardinho.nz and I were awake early in our respective accommodations and keen as can be to getcon the trail nice and early. We were in the car before 0700 and breakfast at Maccas got us underway prior to a real busy day. We had a River Hutt-side cycle, the events and registration at Cossie Club earlyish before racing off to get all the details required for the Lab caches, attend a few associated events, another bike-ride along the nice and flat Hutt river-side. Finally there was a Flashmob before a 'few more' then the Geo-quiz where the upper South did nicely in a podium position - PHEW! What a day!!
The big day(s) has/have arrived. It's MEGA weekend in Wellington region and the culmination of lots of hard work by the organising committee. Also, not to be forgotten, are the caches of the local, and not so local COs, which help the game to continue and enable the enjoyment of others.
The trip has been planned for a while now and the Blenheim contingent of Ricardinho.nz and myself are coming over early on Friday morning on the Bluebridge ferry (after an early morning (non-) 'event') before returning on same mode of transport on Monday lunchtime.
We didn't manage much caching on the Friday but made up for that with 3 good days after and over 100 finds for the weekend to boost my Wellington region finds past my Nelson region ones and even giving my previously prolific Auckland numbers a 'nudge'.
Over the weekend there was plenty of socialising, sharing of ideas, opinions and interesting conversations and a podium spot for the Geosaders quiz team. Allied up with some new caching friends and remet several other rarely seen friends from other areas of the country. A good weekend all around and even the weather played nicely with a sunny outlook each of the days, without it being too warm and uncomfortable. Plenty of events attended, pleasant walks experienced, a couple of bike rides along the Hutt River as well as a smattering of GROET caches for which we were GLAD.
Thanks to all of the cache owners for their hides and listings and looking forward to the next time I visit the area to continue the enjoyment.

Me ol’ Mum don’t get out much these days but today she felt like grabbing a cheese burger and a coffee and heading out to Harcourt Park for some fresh air.
Afterwards she was still feeling well enough so suggested I could find some caches. She would sit in the car so I had to pick some drivebys and this fit the bill nicely.
I do like that these bits of artwork. (I was in Masterton yesterday and there’s some nice ones there too.)

Today I had arranged to meet up with some fellow Cachers to try to do the Mt Climie trail in Upper Hutt. It was going to be at least 90 minutes to get there from my place in Ohau, so I figured I would set off early and see what Caches I could try for on the journey.
I've never been a huge fan of using the Akatarawa Road to travel from Waikanae to Upper Hutt, but thought that at least this time it would be different if I was stopping to search for Caches. As it turned out, I was right! It broke up the journey nicely, and made me stop along the route to appreciate points of interest I hadn't considered before.
So this was my sixth Cache of the day. As I hadn't pre-planned to come this way, I hadn't downloaded the files for use offline, which proved to be a problem about 10 minutes from Waikanae when I completely lost phone signal! So I had to wait until I got coverage again heading towards the Hutt Valley before I could resume caching. I saw that this one should be a relatively easy find so thought it was worth checking out. GZ was nicely quiet, being a Sunday, giving me ample time to quickly check out the cabinet. I immediately saw something on the ground which made me think "oh, no". It was the cap to a magnetic nano, and I figured this mean the cache had to be muggled. But on searching the cabinet immediately above where I had found the cap, I found the rest of the nano still in place. There was still a log inside, although it looks like only the remnants of a bigger scroll. There's not much to it, and probably only enough room left on it for one or two more entries before it'll need replacing completely.
So it was a quick sign of the log, screwed the cap on securely, replaced where found, and then back to the car to carry on to the next one.
Having just placed my first Cache this week, I have an even greater appreciation of what is required to put caches out in the field for all of us to find, and once placed maintain them. So a huge thanks from me for your efforts in placing this one.

On my way home now, after three weeks holidaying with the relatives over Christmas. Heading back to Upper Hutt - I had borrowed a car from a local geocacher there.
I haven't travelled the Akatarawa Road in a long time, and am enjoying it as much as I did those other times (including the day I cycled it).
Love these painted telecoms boxes. Only just starting to happen where I live, can't get enough of them. Nice easy find, as these all are.

#4906. This evening I decided to take advantage of the fine sunny warm weather and do a short cache raid in Upper Hutt. Parked close by and only a short search was needed to find the cache. Signed the log but as usual with this type it takes longer to rewind than to find. Returned the cache as found. Thanks for the cache jend274. Lots of petrol-heads in this area!

A relatively quick find although I only saw it when I stood back after apparently doing a poor job of an up-close search. The log is full and in several fragments so I didn't try to sign it. I see the CO has not addressed the previous N/M request so no wonder it's in bad condition. Please consider archiving if maintenace is not an option for whatever reason. Thanks for placing a cache here all the same.
