Time to archive this one for a couple of reasons. It is a good spot however I am....

1) Sick and tired of people doing the wrong thing and just damaging the area around here or moving the container for whatever reason. Why people can't show respect has me stuffed

2) The game has changed and not for the better.

Time for this one to go.

After visiting the area earlier this week it has come to my attention that the cache has been interfered with. A new one is being constructed and set in place. May take a week or two

Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.

I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.

I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.

I apologise for the inconvenience.

St Arnaud Day 5
With the event now over we have stayed one extra day to do a few more caches.
This afternoon we concentrated on finding some isolated caches.
This town has the most amazing & inventive caches that we have found in any area. The locals should be proud of what they have placed here.
Many of the puzzles which we had spent hours pondering over, we had solve before leaving home.
Thankyou for placing this cache strange quark1

After an exhausting weekend at the Mega we had a day off today before taking the shop back to Geostuff HQ in the lovely Barossa tomorrow! We ventured out to do some caching with hevwalker. While here doing the Earthcache, we had to find this Traditional....would have been rude not to! TFTC

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.

FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.

Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).

On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.

Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Our Sunday geocaching was in two parts. Firstly a run around the town and the nearby fire tracks punctuated by the GIFF event and finished off with a few more on the highway towards Ballarat before making a freeway run for home. Another great day and some wonderful caches. Thanks from D & HA B-A.

19,523. Found with minniek during our epic visit to the St. Arnaud region for the 2019 Victorian Mega Event.

Day 2 - We headed out after breakfast for what we knew would be a great days caching. After the GIFF Event we continued on caching. The drive around the area was a lot of fun today. We headed up the hill for a couple of caches up here. Quick find at GZ while gathering the EC answers. Signed the log, replaced the cache, and we headed off to the next one.

Thanks strange quirk1 !!

It's that time of the year again, Victorian Mega time, so its off to St Arnaud for myself and the ladies of FurfacesLL. A long road trip ahead, heading off Friday morning and getting home late Monday night and a fun filled weekend. We found many caches of all kinds of variety.. Trads, Multis, Puzzles, EC's, Virtuals, Letterboxes, Wherigos, Events, Cito's and of course, the Mega itself. We enjoyed the weekend and there sure are some unique caches here in St Arnaud, we still have plenty left to collect, so may need to coordinate another trip this way some time.

Sunday is here, after a massive day yesterday doing the StARS trails, the Challenge trails, the CITO, Events and Lab caches. Today we decided to head out to try some of the Fire Trail trails and we were not disappointed.

After finishing the FBT trail, we moved over to the Loop Track trail. Must admit, was pretty impressed with some of the containers along this one, dropping a few FP's [^] Apologies for generic logs, with over 300 to log, it all becomes a blurr after a while Red Face

Thanks for the hide strange quark1 Big Grin And thanks to the FFLL ladies for another amazing trip away Big Grin

Found on the trails.

Twelve months ago as we finished the Parkville Mega we were advised by someone that the next Victorian Mega event would be held in Saint Arnold. Somebody else told us that the Mega event would be held in Saint Arnood. And then another said that Saint Arned was the Mega event venue. Who should I believe? Struggling to understand the English language at the best of time. Freddo speaks two languages, Australian and Bad English.
Move forward a year. There is a cluster of events, including a MEGA event, at this town called St Arnaud burning a hole in my GPSr. The big white Pay Hero is loaded with GPSr, TOTT and camping gear and we headed east with a collaboration of like minded South Australian colleagues. DavidWazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, freddo and Gridge98 make team DEFF98.
Thursday: 5am event at a bakery in North Adelaide. The bed wetter team meets and says that this is way too early. Travel 500km east for the Thursday evening event. Freddo gets a prize. I am no mug. Camping in the bush under the stars.
Friday: Up early and headed out on the trails. And then back to our campground for a CITO! I am sure we did not make that much mess last night. More trails and 200 caches find for the day including a cluster of caches where freddo left DNA. More bush camping after a great meal in the Sporting Club.
Saturday: Up early for an event. Who puts an event on at 8am. Damn South Australians that’s who. After the event it was back on the trails and the Pay Hero is getting dustier and dustier. Found some awesome caches. Freddo the metallurgist was very impressed with the welding. Quality fabrication. And then another CITO. This time at the dump. Plenty of rubbish here. Some of it good stuff. Can I take some home? And finally a giant queue for a free meal. Nothing attracts a crowd like a free meal. The moment of the evening was receiving a Hall of Fame nomination. That prize is going straight to the pool room.
Sunday: Another night camping in the bush. Some fabulous night caches walks were undertaken. Night caching is a special form of entertainment. We spent the day cruising around picking up the left over unfound caches and meeting heaps of new friends. Boycotted the GIFF event since it did not show the freddo film “Cache Confusion” https://vimeo.com/372568752. One minute and forty four seconds of your life you won’t get back. A quick speech and it was back on the road for home. Well Horsham. More camping. This time by a river.
Monday: Caches around Horsham and following the Duke’s Highway back to Adelaide. Time for a shower for this smelly geocacher. An exhausted chocolate frog slept well.

We came, we cached, we ate, we slept; repeat for five days of fun and dust.

Easter 2020 sees South Australia hosting the next Easter big MEGA event, GeoVenture 2020 at Millicent. GC82DAN. Check it out. We would love to see you there.

We teamed up with Rapidlywild and headed down from Canberra for another Geocaching Victoria Mega. We arrived at our accommodation in Bendigo on Friday afternoon / evening and checked out a few caches in the area before retiring for the evening. On Saturday morning, we had a pleasant drive across to St Arnaud, arriving at the event as the opening ceremony was wrapping up, and the lab caches were released, so we joined the frenzy with the masses solving the cleverly constructed lab caches.

Sunday, day two of our mega weekend we headed over to St Arnaud to tackle some of the fire trails, and what ever else we came across along the way. After tackling the FT trail and the Loop Trail and surrounds, we collected the few extras around town, this was on the list.

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.

We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.

Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. Once we did a loop through Stuart Mill, we did a final drive around the town vicinity finding caches, including this one. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!

This morning woke up and set off to find some more caches and clean up the last few in the town, stopped by this cache for a quick find

What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.

Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.

Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.

Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.

Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.

Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.

Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

I almost missed this one but luckily spotted it before I drove away after visiting the Earthcache here. As I got to GZ (the long way around, and distracted by the Triggerplant and other wildflowers) the caching family returned looking for a lost trackable. As luck would have it the chain was spotted near my feet and they found the trackable (which was yet to be activated) near the cache. Logged and rehidden I headed off to finally visit the Mega event site (having cached my way down from Charlton) TFTC

TFTC,

An early start to our second full day caching at the St Arnaud MEGA.

After registration, it was time to head out and get some caches. We worked out all the Star Caches at home and found a few extra along the way as we finished them all today.

Came here to do the EarthCache (trying for 11 cache types in one day) and added this cache to my tally for the day.

Shared the trip with Team GBS.

Day 2 of St Arnaud MEGA. Stayed in Bendigo last night and TrailStevo and I mad a 6.30 start to head to Maryborough to do our Parkrun. Once complete we headed for the Mega for some pathtag trading, then some lab cache and a few local trads. we hung around the Mega for 90min before heading off into the bush to tackle a few series. Was warming up and very dusty, but we battled through 25 or so, before heading back to the high street for a coffee break. Whilst sitting at the cafe we became aware of more la b cache in town, and this turned into our next project for an hour. Then back to the Mega for dinner, WOW big queue, then down to the chip stop cus I was still hungry. Then we decided to look cool and drive up and down the high street 5 times!! Seriously........... found it. Then we headed back to Bendigo, cache our way back. Thanks for the fun people.

After a last minute cancellation of my SES plans for the weekend, I jumped in with steeba who was heading to the Victorian Mega for the weekend. With little planning we managed to pack in a whole lot of caching and driving for our 3-day trip.

Driving by night and caching by day we visited Bendigo, St Arnaud, Echuca and Wagga, just to name a few places. Thanks to all the cache owners and event organisers for a fun filled weekend.

Now that the Mega is done and dusted it is time to log all of the caches that I found over the weekend.
The organising crew have to be congratulated for the great job they did in having such a fantastic event which we all enjoyed.
To the people in the background, the lab cache builders the locals and to all of the CO’s that have place caches out there for us to find it made for a very enjoyable 4 1/2 days for me.
I did not hear one complaint either.
This was one of the caches that I didn’t have time to find when I was up here in March so I spent a bit of the Mega finding all of the these ones.
A drive along the trails on this side of the highway and as I reached Sebastopol Rock (Bell Rock) I was greeted by a fantastic view.
After a bit of a search I soon located the cache and added my name to the log.

Thanks strange quark1 TFTC.

Another bright and sunny day in St Arnaud, perfect for our 2nd day of caching here. Our goal today was to collect as many of the solved puzzle caches as well as some interesting traditionals.
The gravel roads have been quiet of traffic and full of wild life. We have seen lots of roos, shingle back lizards, the occasional snake and so much birdlife. The cache hides have included lots of variety and are excellent quality.
Thanks so much to the cache owners for the amazing effort of creating and maintaining these caches.

This had us up, down and all around before Mark spotted that familiar blue colour, the log was signed and the cache replaced before we then checked out the Earthcache.

**Thanks to strange quark1 for placing this cache.**

**Traditional Cache Find #2541**

I went to St Arnaud with SteMicMitSar to make some inroads into the caches here prior to the Mega.
We came for the Earth Cache and found this trad while we were here.

Day 4 of our stay in stay in St Arnaud for geocaching and birding. It was all quiet when we arrived at rock and we headed towards the coordinates. We quickly spotted a likely location and with further investigation there was the container. As we were signing the log there was a little bit of noise approaching and then a couple of young muggles on trail bikes turned up. Fortunately they did not stay long and we were able to replace the cache as found. TFTC.

Day two at St Arnaud with BettyBoo3747.
We just moseyed around town collecting a few caches that were outstanding.
(That is, as in we hadn't done them, although several were very good!)

An interesting shaped bit of rock, I'm surprised it survived the mining times.
A great view from up here (although a bit chilly today!)
Thanks, Robmc.

#16186. Day 2 in St Arnaud for Robmc and me. An extremely chilly morning and a very late start to the caching day, made even later by us cutting laps between the Northern and Southern roundabouts. I am obviously not cut out to be a hoon at this late state of my life. However, we did cruise around plenty of dirt tracks later in the day. Gathered 18 smilies and a DNF and ended our caching day at a very reasonable time.

Certainly an interesting location we probably wouldn't have visited by chance. Great views this afternoon on a clear cold day. I read the nearby board about the murder and the way the people hid the perpetrator for so many months before he was finally caught. Interesting little bit of history there. We scrambled around and soon had the cache to hand and the log book signed.

Thanks strange quark1

Found this one while in the area working on the Earth Cache and managed to locate this hide after a short search. Managed to dodge a big bull ant that was guarding the hiding spot also! Thanks again strange quark1 for the cache and for highlighting this remarkable rock feature and lookout.

TFTC. After completing the new Out and About series we came back into town to do a few more caches before heading back to the CP. We came up here to gather details for The nearby earthcache, No point in leaving the trad unfounded.

This was a very quick find while we were up here to inspect the rock. Signed log and quickly re-hid as a ranger vehicle was approaching.

This sounded an interesting place to stop, and so it was. Nice view of the surrounding area, and I enjoyed climbing the rock almost to the top after finding the cache. Thanks for the cache.

A sneaky little find near that interesting shaped rock. No sign of the trackable, so maybe it is hiding in someone’s caching bag! Thought we would make this the first for the day, before getting all geological with Earthcache answers. SL at 9.31am Left: feathers PT #5438 TFTC strange quark1
