Sorry but we no longer live in Auckland and Aunty Trish has shifted as well, so time to archive.
Even the bear's Aunty couldnt find this one and she helped place it. So will need a replacement.
B4Dawn and I had made plans to adventure in the general Awhitu area to walk and clear out some caches but then the rain set in....ah we don't mind that lets go anyway...just pack the waterproof clothes and jackets!! There were periods it was quite clear and others with really bad wind and rain that made us question what the hell we were doing out but as always it was an adventure and of course some smiley faces to be had.
By now the wind and rain was really really heavy so we were almost getting pushed over by it and I found it easier to see without my glasses on as I couldn't see through the lenses!!
We had a relatively good look around and I think we found a spot it could have been in but no luck for us today...we will be back.

Spent an excellent day with Keylev. Super wet day, soggy hiking boots but a boat load of caches to show for it!
The weather was absolutely dreadful at this point! The wind and rain made for some painful walking. Keylev noted because of the area being so exposed, it didn't help matters.
We searched and searched in this location for ages but couldn't find the cache. My boots were filled with water and we just had to call this one off.

Out on a geocaching trip. Staying at Awhitu Regional Park. Thanks for hiding Tramper Ted.
Today was the day Team G0LD (Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ) finally got to collect the crayola puzzles. As Pete said we'd planned this trip ages ago but covid-19 got in the way.
I left my sons in Whangarei at 5am and got back home to Paihia at 11pm. It was a long day but I really enjoyed it. We found all the crayola series, a few trads near them, a few other solved puzzles. In the middle of the series we headed up to Awhitu Regional park to get a cache that required low tide. Along the way we even managed two FTF's giving us a total of just over 100 for the day.
We'd headed up to this area in the middle of the puzzles to get the cache on Kauirtutahi Island. On arrival the tide was still in so we walked the loop while we waited for it to drop. A beautiful view from up here and a quick easy find. I was pleased to see that the tide had progressed out nicely and it was looking promising for that cache. Not many campers were around this weekend. Thanks for your cache in this lovely reserve

Off on a mission today with Team G0LD ( Geocachers 0B8, Lis & Daffy ) to finally do the Crayola 64 series. The puzzles had been solved ages ago, but due to two Covid forced delays, it was only now we could coordinate schedules and head south from Whangarei to make the finds.
Part way through the 64 series, we decided to make a dash for Awhitu, to collect as many of the trads and bonus puzzles up here as possible. The tide was also supposed to be low around 2:30 and we should also be able to walk out to the island too. However, when we arrived there was still 100 metres of water surrounding the island, so we decided on doing the park walk first.
A nice quick find here on our walk. TFTC

Out with Team Gold (Liz Crew and 0B80B8) picking up as many caches as possible in the South Auckland area. After picking up a bunch of Crayola puzzle caches we decided to head up South Head and collect the series at Awhiti. Soon located in this great spot. The view was amazing. TFTC
The two youngest davidsonclan children and dad have come camping for the night at Awhitu what a lovely spot quiet exploring the tracks now.Tftc
Found this one during the event Leap Year Campout 2020 Auckland - GC8HQ7K.

Caught by a quick shower just before we got to the lookout. GPS took us in circles but got there in the end. TFTC.
Located this one on the walks around the Leap Year Campout Event, a bit slower up the hill to visit this one and once there a nice quick find TFTC.
Out picking up caches after the Leap Year Campout 2020 event. Great view from here. A geotrail lead us straight to it. Thanks Tramper Ted.
Had a fun weekend camping out down here at Awhitu and took the opportunity to rack up some Feb 29 finds with a bunch of nice cache hides around the regional park, some with small groups from the campout and others by myself while riding around the park on my eBike. Great weather and great company, including the CO for a short while also. Managed to ride all the way up the hill to this one. Great spot with a lovely view over the harbour. TFTC!!!

Was so pleased the main heat of the day had gone for this climb, as always the view was worth the effort. Got talking to a couple of muggles on mountain bikes, rather them than me.
Out enjoying the trails with a group from the campout event. Nice views from up here, cheers
We are staying at the Leap Year Campout Event
So here I am with rosmar, alunb, helefant, looking for a couple of caches.
Now I am not sure who did the flax diving? or maybe it wasn't? but as we sat by the flax the log was signed, and I took a picture of the TB to discover it later (taken by rosmar?)
All good here with the hide, the map on the lookout certainly helps with orientation to Auckland city in the distance.
Thanks for the hide Tramper Ted, fun find for us today

Found this one during the event Leap Year Campout 2020 Auckland - GC8HQ7K, nice view from there, we had to wait a some minutes for the Muggles leaving and then starting the search, after a while wandering around VibhaHB spotted the big container followed by Line_Moh and I in the end. Dropped a TB there and after signed as V.I.M.A️ we headed down to finish the first part of the track. It was really hot at this time.

Found with IuryBR and Line_Moh during the Leap Year 2020 camp event in Auckland. IuryBR dropped a TB here as it was big enough.
Great find. First trackable. Will be traveling it. Memories were built up here.
First to soil the new log! Searched a few cabbage trees and dodged a few muggles before making the find! Placed trackable for someone to find TFTC!
The cache was sitting out on the lookout. The contents are saturated. Unable to fill log
Nice views and interesting sign. Cache was actually found on the lookout bench itself. We replaced it back according to the hint, but the log is very wet. TFTC
Day one of a weekend in Auckland with my wife. She loves to geocache, I keep her company.
A nice view on a nice walk. It is a great place to put travel bugs.
JDScout had a conference in Auckland for part of the week so I met up with hem on Friday night. Hopefully we will find a few geocaches on this trip as I haven't got many left to find in Christchurch.
Thanks Tramper Ted for placing this geocache 7650 find for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.

Decided to come for a walk around this regional park today and collect as many of the caches as we could.Enjoyed our sit at the lookout and the lovely views didn’t take us long to find the cache whilst we were here too.
On Auckland Anniversary Day, our last day of camping at Awhitu Regional Park, we followed the Settlers Valley Walk around the park. Although there's a series of caches all the way around, I only looked for this one (and grabbed a couple of TBs) - leaving something for our next trip! Great spot here, thanks!
Find number 4697. A walk up the hill to this one thru all the four legged muggles. All quiet at the GZ so cache quickly located. Did a TB swap. 3 Left and 1 taken. Thank you for the placement.
A day of caching on the Awhitu Peninsula with KirsTim, vistra and yorkshirekiwi83. Great views up here! Thanks for the hide.
Spent today exploring and caching around the Awhitu Peninsula, together with Vamber, KirsTim and Yorkshirekiwi83, signing the logs as KKKTTS.) Parked up then went for a good wander around the Regional Park. Great views from the lookout here and made a quick find of the cache. Dropped off a TB too. TFTC!
Out caching with KrisTim, Vamber and vistra (signed logs as KKKTTS or a variety thereof) around the Awhitu Regional Park and this one was quite a busy spot at the top of the hill, great views, lots of muggles and dropped off a TB as well TFTC
Halfway round our walk!
Thanks Tramper Ted for bringing us up here .
Hill wasn't too bad!
Amazing views from up on the lookout!
Our phone cameras didn't do it justice....

After finding the cache we enjoyed a rest from our walk around the park.
Great views from up here and not a muggle in sight. It's surprising that more people don't visit this beautiful place. Thanks Tramper Ted for bringing us here.

Dear Cache Owners,
I am a German guy who stays in New Zealand for eight months.
My English is not perfect, so please don't wonder if my log entries sound a bit strange. Thanks!
----------
After a good breakfast I decided to drive to Awhitu park to make a nice hiking tour. The weather was nice and I could find a lot of Caches - and no DNF's [^] , so I enjoyed the beautiful landscapes and the view at the sea.
Nice box here!

On a bit of a morning mission with C&D to the South Head of the Manukau Harbour. This is a trip I have been wanting to do for a while so glad to finally visit. This trip also ticked off my 9000th cache find milestone. It was a great trip with the usual laughs, though a slight tide issue made it truly memorable. Thanks to the CO's for all the hides.
A very enjoyable walk around the park, gathering this series. A couple of interesting finds which I'll outline on those logs. Thanks for setting up this series.

Plan for this weekend to visit Awhitu Peninsula Never been in this area before except Waiuku.
Met up with fellow cachers from Huntly on Friday night and travelled up on Saturday morning. Plan to start at bottom and work up.+ Cachers were signed with the team name HRT being first letter of our home towns (Huntly, Rotorua, Tauranga)
Generally caches were good but some a little damp, others requiring reading descriptions, hints and other cachers comments to make finds.
As the day went on we realised we would have to return the next day to complete, so this made it a Saturday & Sunday mission.
Weather was great and some amazing sites visited.
Wish to thank all CO's for caches placed. Great trip. SLTFTC

Awhitu Regional Park: Great views across the surrounding land and harbour. With the temperatures soaring, the distant waters look so inviting... TFTC.

Gorgeous morning to be at the lookout. We’re still early enough we haven’t seen a muggle. NINO TFTC
Such an incredible view here. It was a cloudless evening so we could see all on the horizon. Cache in great order, thanks.
Was out and about today and headed to the Awhitu regional to spend the day caching . I parked at Hatton Road and walked through 3 paddocks and probably more than 10 gates to get to GZ. After the long walk to GZ. After arriving at GZ the cache was found 5 minutes later . Thanks for the cache Tramper Ted .
I'm really unfit, so was last up the hill again (this is the 2nd walk in a week with the beconazes - both places I've suggested, but hills and I are not currently friends). So was happy to reach the top, find a seat in the lookout, and pull out the cherries and my drink bottle for a break. Mrs Beconaze and I orientated ourselves to the landmarks - we weren't expecting the sky tower to be way over there! and watched a few planes land while Mr Beconaze found the cache and then came joined us.
What a great spot to stop for a snack. Mrs beconaze and RWIMF sat and enjoyed the view while Mr beconaze snuffled through the undergrowth near by then returned with the goods. TB out and with RWIMF.
Out for the day with the kids and we decided to visit Awhitu Reserve for some beach time and caching Thanks to the hint this cache was quickly located. Great to see a bigger size cache with swag to swap. TB Dropped. The view from here is certainly worth the trip up the hill on a hot day! TFTC!
With the recent high temperatures, a decision was made to enjoy a lovely sunny day out and about in Awhitu Park. Themexikiwi, evilno9 and I left Auckland quite early to get the low tides precise to collect the tidal geocaches. After this was done we enjoyed the walk around the park. What a great view from GZ with an add-on cold breeze to enjoy. TFTC
In my spare time today I decided to head up the Awhitu peninsular to find some caches. Although the weather report wasn't encouraging, the rain held off until I had finished my caching for the day. My objective for today was to have a walk around the regional park and find as many caches out here as I could. In the end there was only one I could get to / find so a very enjoyable time wandering around this beautiful spot. I can remember bringing our kids out here once when we lived in Auckland and they were small.
Awesome views from up here. Great spot for the cache too. TFTC, Biggles.

Worth the effort to walk up here and admire the view across the water and the farmland too. While geowife took in the view I hunted out the cache and thanks to the excellent hint the cache was soon in hand. Nice sized cache, I think the biggest we found today, and all good here too. A little swag here but TNLNSL, replaced the cache and got on our way again. Thanks for the cache.
Merlot58, Aiden29 and SP8SM8 headed off to find this cache. Stunning views from here, and an ideal lunch spot so we stopped for lunch while SP8SM8 continued on.
9th find of the afternoon, best views yet by far! With GERNITA and PHILBIRDBOYS. TFTC
As our lunch was back at the car and the others we were caching with decided to have theirs here, this was the last cache in the park we did together, but not the last of the day.

I was looking for a place to go for a drive/walk and this series seemed like a good idea. Started early as I wasnt sure how long it would take and what the area would be like. Im guessing the place looks like Queen St on the Friday night during summer. Nice walk and didnt see anyone else during the circuit. Thanks.
Jag50, Aiden29 and I decided to make the most of the stunning albeit chilly weather and have a walk around the park picking up the new caches. Great views from here so we decided to stop and have some lunch.
Headed out with Merlot58 and Jag50 to find all the new caches at Awhitu. We were joined by sp8sm8 for some of the route around. smp8sm8 located this cache, while the rest of enjoyed the view, and settled on this location for lunch.
Walked out to Brooks homestead then decided we'd head back to the car and drive around to save the long walk back to the car. The bulls in the paddock watched us but kept well away. Once at the top we initially looked at the wrong hint, but looked at the gps and realised we were way out. Eventually got the log, thanks
Drove out this way today as Awhitu is one of our favourite beach spots. Usually we come from the main carpark off Brooks road but today was a little different. Arriving at GZ I identified some possible cache locations in the general area. After some pacing around and consolidation with the GPS, the cache was soon in hand and log signed. No muggles around today except a farmer with his dogs and cattle in the distance. Nice spot for a cache TFTC.
Our first visit ever to this lovely area, glad to find some caches here too. It was only an overnight but we will be back for a longer stay. Grabbed the TB and geocoin to move on. Great views and a quick find, TFTC
A nice quick stroll up the hill from the valley and a good spot for the cache as the lookout was in use but the retrieval was no issue as I was sufficiently hidden away. Nice little area - TFTC
A quick find as we walked around this neat park. It has been many years since we were last here and its still just great. TFTC
Today was a chance to go caching with Mrs Dragon. It doesn't happen that often as the places that I tend to go are often too wild and rugged for her. As it turned out many of these roads we travelled it was a case of us both enjoying the drive, the countryside and stormy windy weather, and I going to retreive the cache.
Nevermind was still a day full of memories that make up caching.
This was the sixteenth of the day after passing through Waiuku heading for Awhitu Peninsula and South Head, it was now time to start heading back down the other side of the peninsula. Parked at the required location and quickly made my way to the GZ (all the time working hard not to end up RSE over kite in the slippery conditions) and not rile up some very inquisitve beef cattle. Managed to locate in first spot and tool a moment to enjoy the view before heading on to the next one and then back up to Mrs Dragon waiting with the car.
Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

A great Easter camping weekend at Brooke homestead. The tide was low and we walked all the way to the island without getting our feet wet. Nice view from the lookout, TFTC
