yep came by for a check.. its definitely gone.. was just bout to place another one then thought twice bout it... the hiding place is pretty much at eye level now for any one on approach and it so slippy and muddy around the rest of the tree.. time to hang up the whomper me thinks;-)
Today was another nice day for our holiday trip in new zealand were we of course also found some caches along the way. this was our last day before we took the plane back to the Netherlands.

My final full day in New Zealand after 2 weeks from Australia, visiting my sister in New Plymouth, then the mega event in Turangi, and some touristy stuff through the Bay of Plenty on the way back to Auckland. Today's final leg was the short hop from Thames to Auckland, mainly going up the East Coast Road to spend as much time in the country as possible. I think I actually wrote all logs today accidentally with 29/10/16 however. Oh well.
Made my way up to ground zero without too much drama, but after about 10 minutes of looking I had to admit defeat. Can't get them all I suppose. Thanks alligatorsnz.

Out for a drive around the Firth of Thames, picking up some caches along the way. The bank was a bit muddy and slippery.
Wonderful afternoon in Kawakawa. And of course, grabbing the cache was mandatory.

Motor biking from Christchurch to Auckland and finding some caches on the way. TFTC!

I came over to New Zealand to meet my son, who was staying for nearly six months on the other side of the world. Our intension is, to travel now for 4 weeks through this fantastic land and visiting a lot of fine spots on both islands.
Met in Auckland, our first trip led us to the Far North with some spectacular locations. It was a lot of driving, but we think, it was worth the result.
The second part of our travelling route led us to the south. Going via Hamilton with some fine locations, Hobbiton was an absolutely must of our "unexpected journey" . Went then to Tauranga with a hard upclimb to Mt. Maunganui, visited Rotorua to see lot of vulcanic activities, have had a lot of fun with Zorbing and Claybird shooting and drove then to Taupa, to doing Skydiving.
Napier with it's beautiful Art Deco district and the great Aquarium was the next stop.
Final destination on the North Island was Wellington, were we visited some great places and met some friends from Germany.
After crossing Cook Strait now we followed the east side of the southern island down to the most southern point of New Zealand.
Blenheim with its wine yards, fantastic dolphin watching in Kaikoura, the story of earthquake in Christchurch, following the famous coastline down to Dunedin with its beautiful and interesting places as well as the nice city of Invercargill were our main spots on this part of our journey.
Being in the South, the way now went up on the west coast back to the north. Crossing the Fjordland with its famous landscapes we've reached Te Anau to do a private flight over Milford Sound, then spend in Queenstown some time with the most spectacular activities ever done (Canyon jumping and Shotover canyon jetriding were some unforgetable experiences!) the way led us to the glaciers, up to the nice town of Westport and further to Abel Tasman Park to doing an unbelievable hike trough the park and an outstanding kayak tour with seal and bird watching.
Nelson, Picton; Cook Strait was waiting again for us.
Then it was time to starting back to the north. But first of all we catched the oldest cache of NZ, one of the oldest in the word. That was a must before we took our way via Palmerston North, Whanganui, Oponake to New Plymouth with stops on beautiful places.
Due to bad weather in the mountains it was not possible to do the Tongariro Crossing, so we decided to go straight north to Hamilton and then further to the Coromandel peninsula, where we spent the Easter days. Wonderful days with wonderful weather and fantastic places.
All will come to an end, also this outstanding vacation. We drove back to Auckland, where we performed the revenge of our Drift Kart competition and took then the airplanes back home.
Of course, even if was is not our main activity during this holidays, we were looking for some caches, which are laying beside our route.
So this cache was one of those, we've picked up.
Many thanks to alligatorsnz for this fine cache and best greetings from Germany.

Thats a pretty serious tree isn't it. There was a massive number of muggles out and about today and we were a bit worried that we wouldn't be able to access the tree but as we got closer we got lucky and there was nobody around that bit.
Didn't take too long to spot it with 3 of us and in the end it was Mrs beconaze that made the find. All good with the cache, the previous finder left the logbook placed for easy retrieval

Mr Beconaze and I looked in all the hard places, only to have mrs beconaze spot it from where she was standing. Then came the hard bit of getting back down the hill in jandals...
Our last stop on our tiki tour home from the Waikato. We ordred some burgers, fish & chips from Kawakawa Bay then set ourselves a challenge of locating this cache before our order was ready. Once at gz it took 1 circumnavigation of the Whomping tree before Kiwiscot spied the hide. Got back to the chip shop with plenty of time to spare. Lovely spot for a feed beside the sea. TFTC
Took a while to find this one, we circumnavigated the tree multiple time and eventually spotted something. We then went to the playground for a bit of a game, TFTC
Found this cache on our 4 week trip through New Zealand, on the way from Coromandel to Auckland. Greetings from Germany.

Spent a few minutes searching for this one. Scrambled up and circumnavigated the tree and made things a little harder than they needed to be before finding it in a much more sensible place. We picked up a geocoin and signed the log. Tourists and campervans frequent this area and something none too pleasant was deposited at the tree. Thank goodness we had hand sanitiser in the car as we sure needed it after this one!!
We stop there for a small break. Beautiful place with nice view.
Thank you. Czech Republic

Found after walking along the top of the little peninsular at the water thinking the Whomping Tree was here. Looked at the GPS to find woah!! we're 130 metres from GZ! Back down and spotted the tree way back there. Quite sure that dratted tree moved! TFTC alligatorsnz.
Looked like a HP Whomping Tree, so we searched it high and low, Then Mrs W. spotted in the easiest position. TFTC
Have camped here a number of time but no time today. Love this area of the coast. Saw cache as walking up to it
Thought we would take this road to Thames and with the beautiful weather on offer today it was a fantastic trip down. Great tree for a cache and a nice spot to stretch the legs. TFTC
Yay after searching what i think
Was to many holds a tree could have
I got on the last on

Was out with a few other cachers getting an ftf on an island close by. So we decided to stop off and get this one on the way back.
We took a few wrong turns around the whomping big tree, but then soon found the cache

Drove out with KFNZ to make this find after a morning of paintballing with some other cachers nearby. Spotted the likely tree where the cache would be once we hopped into the small bit of bush, and the find was soon located not too long afterwards. Thanks for the hide!
Out today with HKCB exploring some Auckland caches. The storm had passed and and it was quite pleasant now that the wet weather gear was not needed. In the area so wanted to stop off and grab this one.
A lot of searching went on but HKCB made the find luckily in one of the last spots we looked.
I wonder who would win between a Whomping Tree and an Ent?

On the way home with HPG from a days caching. I had tried this one before but without luck. More eyes looking this time, and from parking on the other side of the hill I had a better look at this side. Found lots more holes this time, and even thought I'd found it in a deep dark hole. Turned out it was some rubbish, but a few minutes later I spied what we were looking for.
Wedding on in park so luckily they were too busy taking photos etc that they didn't see us scrambling to whomping tree. (What is a whomping tree??).
ROS completed the initial search for this one while MAR made the lunch but he had no luck so MAR returned and found it straight away. Good hide and we had the area to ourselves today so geopup was able to have a run around TFTC.
Decided to go away for an early start to the weekend and make a real effort on the Coromandel Peninsula, Vistra was up for the challenge of joining me. We went home via the Miranda coastline for a bit of a change. Bit blinded by the enormous potenial hide to notice the actual hide for ages, but well hidden. TFTC

After spending a couple of days with Yorkshirekiwi83 caching around the Coromandel Peninsula, we decided to head back to Auckland via the Seabird Coast and around to Clevedon, finding caches as we went. This took a little while to find after I spent too much time focussing on the wrong spot - before spotting the obvious hiding spot! TFTC!

A nice way to finish a lovely break and to be inspired after other cache further round was missing
Found on our tiki tour in-between World Cup cricket games. Hiding spot found by our travelling companion, Mrs E, while Mr Nalawod scratched around unsuccessfully. Great name for the tree - we would have picked the same name. Great place to stop and relax, too.
Found an interesting tree with a great area to hide something in but nothing there.
Further along found an attempt at a hut with the odd golf ball in it ............. a hole in 1??
But No cache

DNF ... but it was on a flying offchance visit with plenty of muggle kids around, and we are old so dont read too much in to it.
Found a whomping hole in the whomping tree but it was empty. The hole disappeared down into the 'bowels' of the tree and was longer than my arm would reach, as least it seemed so, but I wasn't game to try that far. Cheers.
Having a short family holiday at the beach house in Kawakawa Bay. There have been a lot of new placements in the area since we were last here. How convenient...
It was hot enough to sleep out on the verrandah last night and we were up early enough to beat sunrise. Why waste a good morning lying around when we could be out caching. This was our first stop... I've thought about putting a cache here myself, but have never been organised enough to do it. Nice to see one here. It's less than a kilometre from the house. I admit to not reading the description well beforehand. We climbed up and over, not realising it was safer to walk around. A quick find once we got down to the low side. TFTC.

Last cache on our way home. Hadn't planned to do this cache, but had had 2 DNFs at Tapapakanga and didn't want to finish the day with a DNF. Although there were others that we passed before here, they were on the other side of road.
Parked wrong side which meant a climb over the hill. Thought I thought this might be the case from the distance to GPSr, I was tired and didn't want to walk around (silly really, as was probably harder going over - not thinking straight after last couple of days adventures).
Made a circuit around tree without finding - although I did find some stickers that I new had come from the cache (as had seen similar in another cache).
Re read description and climbed down for another hunt. Found this time, about a foot away from where I'd found the stickers.
Went around to get back to car rather than over, felt it would have been more difficult climbing down the other side, than it had been coming up.
Now home - via a 2 year olds birthday party. TFTC

Pretty busy spot today with lots of muggles enjoying summer activities, cool Whomping Tree and a great spot for a cache, TFTC.
Nice hide. Stopping for lunch on way to overnight stay on beautiful Miranda beach. Tftc
One of many caches found during our month long tour around the South and North Islands. I am on rations for caching but finding around 10 a day.
Thanks to all the cache hiders.
Today took us from Miranda to Whangarei. TFTC.

Out and about this afternoon after work for a refreshing drive in the country enjoying views over the water. I was looking forward to attempting this hide on my return journey. I parked on the wrong side which meant the climb was much stepper and wetter than it need have been. At GZ I did a full 360 of GZ without coming up with the goods. Had a close look at the cache page before going around again. This time the search was more fruitful. Now to descend without falling over! Cheers for the mini adventure!
Wow... we did not realise this wasn't as simple as our recent park n grabs! Nice spot tftc
Had an ice cream nearby before we tried to work out which was the best way to get up there. Turned out not so bad after all. Quick find. Certainly a huge tree. Thanks for the new caches along the route to break up the journey. SL. TFTC.
We (annevoi & i) too liked the coastal route idea to get to Coromandel (1st day in NZ). Fun hide in beautiful setting. TFTC!
Yeah, we went the long way over the ridge. So beautiful here! Our 2nd NZ find. TFTH.
We were out this way for a couple of new caches tonight and decided to complete the new publications while we were here. What a difference 12 hours makes from the FTF logsI! It was dark, raining and we were scrambling by torch light, but Mr NZT came up trumps! Thanks for the adventure as we would be blobbing on the couch otherwise! TFTC
Saw these get published last night, but decided an early night was in order.... was a little surprised to see these still not logged this am, so dropped one of the junior cachers to school and headed out with sleepy junior cacher for support...
Arrived at GZ and all was clear for the hunt... first place I looked... was it to be a FTF.... no Gorbygorbachov had been here neigh on 2hours earlier....
TFTC alligatorsnz.
This is quite some place on a sunny morning.

I turned the phone on this morning and there were a handful of new caches in this area, still no logs on them, so I headed out after dropping the kids off at school. Found this one, but only 3rd to find here today. Awesome views. TFTC
I too was in bed when my phone went bling bling, too tired - go back to sleep. In the morning though, since I have to get up really early, I spotted what I was too tired to see last night: 3 yummy caches all close together, that's a meal and a half, even for an alligator! So a plan was hatched, go to work a lot earlier since I work over Botany at the moment anyway, text the boss saying I'm going to be running a little late (heh heh heh) then gooooo! I know of at least 4 other cachers who live much closer to this cache than me so really wasn't holding out any hopes of being there first, sure enough when I pulled up a couple were loitering about their car and my heart sank, thinking someone had already found it, but after a brief chat they were just early morning swimmers. So after several minutes searching, I finally opened the container to find a blank log! Yea Hah! (only ended up being 2 1/2 hrs late for work) There are several whomping trees here, anyone would have been cool to have a cache at. Gorgeous beach I have to say, cool adventure. FTF #37
