Time to let this one go. We can't get there and our local maintainer has moved on.
Interesting place with an equally interesting history. it is a little odd that every single structure was removed leaving only the concrete slabs.
The container has disintegrated, and only a sandwich bag remains to keep the cache from any weather.
Thanks for the cache

Catching up on some logging from trip we took a few years ago.
Absolutely loved this place. Could spend a few days exploring here.

Had a nice wander around the old town and camped the night. Went up to visit he old mine, impressive. Left a trackable to discover.
Pulled up for the night and turned on the GPSr to find a cache was only 20m away. How good is that? TFTC ian-and-Penny
Did not brig my Geopencil. Doh !

Finally. Came here a couple of years ago looking for this cache. Too many campers then, only a couple today thanks for placing this cache
Not only is Mary Kathleen an interesting place to visit and look around it's also a great area to camp the night.
There were plenty of others also enjoying camping here. Thankfully none were in the vicinity of GZ so we were easily able to make the find.

Just a small hunt and there it was found while camping for a few days traveling through QLD from WA .TFTC..
Wandered into 'town' to have a look around. Found the cache near what was once a fountain/waterfall area. Must have been pretty in its heyday. TFTC
After attending the show at the Stockman's Hall of Fame the previous night then driving out of town to the free camp there which was very popular, we were back on the road again this morning heading for Mt Isa.
We stopped where parking was possible for caches that were close to or just off the road on our way collecting as many as we could.
A wonderful way to come across a range of monuments and features that would otherwise be missed. We also enjoy the stories and anecdotes that go with some.
Well in for a 'Penny" Ian for a Pound! We had found the other one, so why not look for this one too!
A few more bumps and a washout or two and we had arrived.
This was our 63,798th find, give or take 56,798!
Accuracy: We found this cache despite what the GPSr was telling us. 'The Donald' must be reeking havoc again!
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in fair shape. Part of the container has broken and it is held together with duct tape!
Took: More flies.
Left: A few of the flies we had brought from the other cache. A few more curses and more good memories.
Greetings to Ian & Penny
Thanks for the hunt today,

We thought today would be a good day to pick up some caches that were mostly "off the highway" locations.
The first visit here today for us had to be abandoned due to the presence of a tour vehicle full of muggles. We came back later in the day, no muggles now and a nice quick find.
The container is damaged and not holding together properly. The CO may need to fix this one.
Thanks to ian-and-penny for this cache placement.

We have been spending a few days in Mount Isa and for our last full day decided to take a drive to the old Mary Kathleen mine site and the Ballara Heritage mining trail. Of course we hoped to nab a few caches on the way
A couple of grey nomads were parked right at GZ and catching up with some of their washing and thinking of spending the night.
We chatted to them and told them what we would be looking for as they sat there in their camp chairs watching us. They were very friendly and interested to see what we found and then were equally amazed
Now on to the next one in this locality. The cache is clean and dry...which is good considering recent rains around here
Many thanks for the hide ian-and-penny

Driving back to Isa after a week in the mines and grabbing a few caches in the short time I have. Took a while to find this. Muggle central (well, sort of) with three car loads turning up while I blundered about waiting for the GPS to settle.
This town would of been awesome in its day. I can imagine the goldfish. NEF TFTC Ian & Penny.
On a clockwise half lap of the East side of Australia. Travelling from Camooweal to Correla Dam and decided to grab a few caches , despite the afternoon heat. Thanks to all the CO'S for their valuable work and maintaining the cache's.

Left Mt Isa this morning as we continue our meandering across northern Australia after attending the Red Centre Experience over Easter.
Decided to spend a few days in the old town site so set up camp on one of the slabs in preparation for exploring the area and grabbing as many caches as possible. This was the second of three before lunch. Am loving exploring the old town site. My parents visited here many years ago when the town was a vibrant, bustling community. Stamped log. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us to find Ian-and-Penny.

At last made the effort to have a look in here. Quite a number of campers set up around the place, finally made it to what must have been the centre of town and made the grab.
Wow the remains are worth a visit to think there is curb and channeling and slabs where buildings used to stand so proud TFTC
Hi there ian-and-penny - we left Cloncurry this morning headed towards Corella Dam and the park there intending to stay for a day or two. Unfortunately the area was almost packed out so we continued to Mary Kathleen and then to Mt Isa before stopping for the day. This cache and log are in good condition - SL. This is our find #4909 - thanks to ian-and-penny for this cache.
On our way home from our NT/WA adventure. Heading from Barkly Homestead to Cloncurry today with a few stops for caches along the way. This was one of the places I really wanted to visit on our trip & I'm so glad we did. I wish we were set up to free camp so we could have spent some more time here exploring. It's amazing that a town can just be sold off & all but disappear. I'll have to do some googling to see if I can see some pictures of the town in it's heyday!
Saw the plaque from the fountain at the museum in Cloncurry the next day. Log signed & cache replaced as found.

Today we headed towards Mary Kathleen, we stopped to find caches where it was suitable to pull over with a caravan in tow.
This is the centre of the original town, so glad you have bought us here.

Love the outback and finding this cache. We are happy to have plenty of time to spend exploring this unique area. Thanks to ian-and-penny for placement of this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the area.
We've been to the Mega at Alice Springs and now on the homeward stretch so still looking for caches. Coongoola may sign small log sheets as CG if there's not much room.
Found at Coords supplied previously in another log but not that far away. Did a minor repair to the cache whilst here.
Thanks for the cache ian-and-penny.

Was a really weird experience to see a place that still had the streets and cement pads for the houses there but nothing else. Wasn't even a toilet here and I could have done with one of those! Cache has obviously been found by many people mostly muggles as there are dozens and dozens of cards in it. If the C.O. is passing through then maybe a clear out of these would ease congestion. #7223 - 11:30; Day 26 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965, so signing logs as A.L.F.S. After attending the Red Centre Experience event in Alice Springs and then heading north to Darwin, we are now headed for home. We reached Queensland yesterday and after overnighting in Mt Isa and collecting a few more around the city this morning, we were now on the road and heading for our next overnight stop in Winton via Mary Kathleen, Cloncurry and McKinlay caching all the way. Most of the caches we located were in good order, including this one. An interesting spot to visit. TFTC ian-and-penny
13684. Next find of Day 16 of the Red Centre Experience Roadtrip. Heading South East into QLD.
I flew into Alice Springs to meet up with my caching mates Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n (signing mostly as ALFS) to attend the Red Centre Experience and then venture up north to Darwin and then east into Qld before heading south for home - a three week caching trek.
Next stop for the day. Quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache, and headed off to the next one.
TNLN - TFTC !! It was fun driving into here !

Heading back down the track and towards home with fitzy_1965, LuckyL10n and albida and we were heading from Mt Isa towards Barcaldine. Grabbed a good number of caches along the way, with the oddDNF thrown in. A couple of days of fun caching. Most logs were signed ALFS to save space on the logs.....
Thanks to all the caches owners for the caches and the fun in grabbing them.

After yet another long day on the road we finally rolled into Mary Kathleen, a favorite spot of ours. Although it was getting late and past my dinner time we just had to find this one last cache for the day.
I wandered over first GPS in hand and spent some considerable time hunting, that was OK as Ian was back at the van tidying up. Once I thought the domestic chores were finished I wandered back to tell of not finding the cache. I knew the cords had changed but didn't realize I had the originals in my GPS. Ian, the Iphone genius decided to go take a look using his phone for directions. Sure enough he was back very quickly having found the cache, signed the log and putting it all back together. Ah well.....
Thanks Ian and Penny

Found with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!
Took us a while but luckily I had phone reception so read some previous logs and scrolled down to get the helpful coordinates. Signed sneaky log, TFTC!
Coordinates changed from:
S 20° 46.640 E 139° 58.857
Coordinates changed to:
S 20° 46.642 E 139° 58.859
Distance from original: 16.7 feet or 5.1 meters.
Sadly the original spot is now being used as a fire pit. Cache has been re-located to a safer spot.

We are on an express road trip from Brisbane to Alice Springs but taking the opportunity to find a few caches along the way [^] There will be a little more time on our return trip so we will be taking some time out to better explore some of the areas we have had to fly past
We had a little adventure initially trying to get our i30 and camper trailer to ground zero, as we followed the remains of the bitumen road rather than veering to the right over the cattle grid. Now Mr Just a Trifle has quite a lot of experience in driving a 4WD and knows the limitations of the i30, so we did manage to get to within a few hundred metres of ground zero with just a bit of packing up of the track here and there. At the bridge though, the drop off was just a little too much to risk, so we unhooked the trailer, turned it and the car around and re-hitched the camper to make our way out again. Fortunately, there were a few campers taking a walk who were able to set us straight on the correct entrance to the abandoned township.
Once we had finally arrived at ground zero, we struggled to find anything at the listed co-ordinates but after we had read through some previous logs, we noted some alternative co-ordinates were provided. A search in that area located the cache in pieces which we reassembled and returned to where we thought it would have been hidden. With our name added to the log book, we continued on our long drive.
Thank you ian-and-penny for having placed the cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy

Town square sure is different - we remember this pool garden, it was a hot day then - not like today .

Arrived at GZ and no sign of container but log in plastic bag lying on the ground. Had a spare container so it is back in the game. What a fascinating location. Well worth the short trip off the main highway. We are Grey Nomads heading to a cattle property at Georgetown. TFTC

That took awhile to find. The type of hide it was did cross my mind briefly during the search. I concentrated most of my search elsewhere, as my Garmin had GZ five metres away. It was only when I expanded my search that I spotted it. It blends in very well; possible the best use of this hide I have seen. My Garmin preferred: S20 46.642 E139 58.859. Free campers were in resistance; as were young cattle. The cattle didn’t appear scared of people. Looks a great place to camp. TFTC ian-and-penny.
While camping at Corella Dam we tackled a few new caches that have been published since our last visit and this was one of them. An easy find by Mrs "T". We have found the previous one here and good to reurn to revisit the ghost town.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

TFTC. We are camped in the township for a couple of days. We went and searched for this yesterday twice with no luck. We had an idea for what we were looking for but nothing stood out. A message to the CO gave us a further clue. Went back this morning and searched. Was nearly about to call it quits when I sat down to re-examine the area. A hand went down and came up with the goods. Totally by accident.
Thanks for the search.
Thanks for the search.
tftc,
Today is day 15 of an adventure that will take me around Australia with a group of trackables. My caches visited can be tracked by checking out the Key Ring using the code TB4P4C1.
At this stage it just involves highway driving, but that will change and the places people take you to with their cache placements will inspire you to explore our great country.
Spent 20 minutes looking. No luck today.
As a part of my contribution to helping make the "Easter 2017 Red Centre Experience" GC6825Z a great Event, I will be leaving a card in every cache that is large enough to take it. This card provides a number for a trackable so you can "Discover me". There is also the Web page address "red.ozmega.com.au".
Happy caching.

Stayed overnight at this popular spot. Thanks for placing this geocache - ingenious container
Found at 1036hrs 9/7/16, with the help of Dmac9, we had all but given up when this suspicious character appeared at GZ. We returned to the scene introduced ourselves and returned to the hunt when he said do you recognize this and sure enough he had uncovered the prize, the log was signed and cache restored to its hide. TFTC ian-and-penny.
Had a very quick look before chatty muggles made it impossible ,thanks for bringing us here
A quick find on this hide. We're camped "out the back" of the township and loving it. No near neighbours except for the cows. TFTC
Took a longer than it should of but got there in the end. GC is bigger than a micro. TFTC cheers
I'm camped next to it and despite several searches I can't locate it. Wonder if it has gone missing in the last 7 months... It doesn't appear to be within 30m of coordinates
