23-Jun-23
Working our way home from a tour at Maralinga with a group of cachers, mainly from South Australia. Now there is only Geoturtle37, Team Crackers, Micaparamedic and myself. We are having a great time, visiting new, remote locations and finding caches as we go.This is another one that the others had already found, so GT37 and I headed out here to see if we could also add a smiley here. Found the cache with no difficulties. Thanks for placing this cache and bringing us here.

23-Jun-23
Team Crackers, Micaparamedic, Papi4506 and I are heading back to Melbourne slowly. We are enjoying going to new places (for us anyway) and finding some caches as we go.The name is so apt for this cemetery. This is such a lonely looking grave. Interesting to see the size of the cemetery and what is left of the town. Thanks for placing this cache and bringing us here.

30-May-23
We found this cache as part of a fantastic 3 week camping trip including the Simpson Desert, Coober Pedy, Farina, and Arkaroola.
We travelled with 11 other family members and five vehicles in all and had the most amazing adventure.

We visited Farina 3 times on this trip and this is the first time that the bakery was open.
The history in the area is phenomenal and this cache highlights the importance of some of the early pioneers. A favourite point from us.

Many thanks for the hide Hurtle

Quick find while wandering around the cemetery. Always learn something new when returning here.

We finally came in to Farina when the bakery was open! Stayed here a few nights and had a good chat with the volunteers. There were some out here today clearing weeds from the graves. So much history in Farina, we love visiting this place.

Another remote Hurtle find. Always good. Facinating story. TFTC yet again Hurtle Smile

Found on yet another trip without crossing borders. Like many others overseas trips are on hold. Even interstate is hard to plan. So we are taking the time to explore and re-explore our home state of South Australia.

This trip is take 2 as our first attempt was clobbered 2 days in by a sudden lockdown meaning we had to turn back home again. Two weeks later and the geohounds are back at puppy holiday camp. Our plan is Hummocks Station, Willow Waters Gorge (brilliant!), Farina, and then the Oodnadatta Track to Algebuckina Bridge, then through to Eringa Waterhole and then on to Mt Dare. After that the likely path (assuming the NT border is open) is via Finke to Lambert’s Centre of Australia and then we turned back south. We also took a side trip to see Lake Caddibarrawirracanna. We hope to find a few caches along the way and maybe hide a few as well. We are certainly having fun so far.

It is time to go back and actually log on line those caches for which we have only submitted draft logs. As our drafts have hit well over 200 we need to work through them.
While we may no longer remember the specifics of each event we are pretty sure we met and spoke with the usual subjects, and drank coffee, and chatted about geocaching and other stuff. We also quite possibly shared some hints about one or more of our own puzzles as we do get asked about these from time to time
As far as physical caches are concerned we remember all the puzzles, although some are harder than others [;] and mostly the hides.
As far as trads and multis are concerned we most often pick these up while traveling or at least while we are out and about for other reasons. Nearly always a bit of fun and good to break up a long trip.

Der Platz für den Cache ist gut gewählt. Die Wenigsten würden sonst die Grabsteine am Ende Friedhofs besuchen. Aber es lohnt sich. Die vielen Geschichten der ehemaligen Bewohner sind wirklich interessant.

A detour off the main highway and up the the dead peoples spot. Cache was easily located

Today was a massive day of driving with almost 600km of driving. We started off at parachilna and headed north to Marree. Unfortunately we got a flat tyre on the way out to a cache of Freddos but a local was nice enough to plug it for us. We later headed to lake eyre south along the Oodnadatta track before heading south to Roxby downs, unfortunately a rock was flung up by an oncoming car and shattered the rear window of the car. At the end of the day we decided to pull in at woomera for the night.

Very dry in these parts. Been here a number of times over the years and can't believe how bad it is. Very lonely cemetery indeed. Life expectancy was very short back then. Tftc

Stumbled on this one during our 4 week road trip. Log in good shape. TFTC

17-Aug-19
The Parrot had to head back up to Copley to pick up his trailer after attending the Big Red Bash.
The axle packed it in on the way home and I needed it pulled off the Birdsville track and repaired.
So I have taken a few days off work and headed north to pick it up.
We were in a hurry last time I came through here and missed this one.
No such problem this time. I am becoming a regular at this camp ground.
You take your luck camping here because when the wind comes up my she blows.
We have had to abandon a campsite here once before when a dust storm blew in an we ended up running for Marree.
There was a stiff breeze when I went to bed but nothing to worry about until just after midnight.
Then it happened.
You know it is coming because it sounds like a freight train is heading straight towards you.
It gets louder and louder until it crashes into your campsite like some juggernaut.
Your tent caves in towards you and you need to fight your way out the tent.
I had to stand there for about 5 minutes holding the awning down so it wouldnt destroy my campsite.
Everything is greyed out as you stand in the middle of thios mighty dust storm.
Then just like a freight train it passes and every thing settles down.
Until 4 am when it all happened again..
To lazy to lioght the donkey but thankfully there was some warm water in there and I had a good start to the day.
Oh and thanks for the cache
I do love the history of this place. I beleive all the dust is because cattle being driven down from Queensland terraformed the country into the desert it now is.

Camped at Farina last night after finishing the Oodnadatta Track. Lucky enough to catch the last day of trade for the bakery, delicious! Weren’t planning on visiting the cemetery, so glad we did absolutely fascinating. TFTC️

Nomads travelling in their caravan around Australia. We have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children. Where ever possible, we will maintain your cache as we travel.
Heading from Leigh Creek to Farina – Just for a pie as you do.

We were here back in July 2012. Nothing changes much in a cemetery! Interesting story about Mohammed and his wife. Thanks postiegirl06

Great spot ,what a lonely place it would have been ,tftc

07-Jul-19
Lovely quiet secluded place in the morning just after sunrise.
Lots of people in the campground last night so everyone’s busy packing this morning so it was good to get away from the hustle and bustle and go for a walk.
It saddens me to read about baby deaths in these historic cemeteries and I noted on the board that a family lost twins one at 10 days and one at 44 days. So sad. Tftc

Cache was found as part of a Simpson Desert trek by Team Waldron, Freddo, Featherwaite, E_Gregory1 and a couple of muggles.

After Coober Pedy it was off to Dalhousie Springs then across the desert to Birdsvaille south to Clayton Springs and then one last night in the Flinders.

A great trip and we even had time for a few caches.

Have been to Farina before but today the bakery was open so we had to call in.

At Farina to volunteer at the Restoration Project. So many yummy bakery items to see every day!

Lucky enough to be able to catch up for a caching run with ajtmb today. Also met Dickson2 at this cache as they recognised our number plates then later on in the day a cacher came into the bakery with a GPSr so got to meet Footdog aswell.

Mate it was barren out here. Just love these Postie caches - they make you open your eyes and suck in the hardships of the lonely stones. Thanks yet again.

Found with H423L on an epic trip up to find Pluto (GCG32B) - the furthest known planet at the time of TeamAstro's solar system inception. There was dust, flies, more dust, no mud and a million stars at night. There were no tyre issues. The geocaching led us to spectacular spots that were out of the way - and a few spots that were popular as it was the school holidays. We cached a few caches with others and it was good to see our friends on the trail.

Thanks to DustyandDizz and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

Starting my great trip up the middle with a couple of muggle friends.
Just picking up random caches while I can without upsetting them to much.
Camped the night here on our way north and checked out the cemetery.
It would have been a lonely life out here.

The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 42. After a quiet night in William Creek I continued South via Marree and Lyndhurst to just North of Hawker for a very cold night.

After wending my way through the busy campground I headed out to the cemetery. I know I have done another cache out here, are there two now, ? Oh well, I found this one ok.

Thanks.

21-Apr-18
What a different way of life it would have been for all the folk buried here. It’s hard to imagine the struggles and hardship that faced, let alone the heat and other aspects of the environment.
It makes our life back in the city look really easy.
It was a fantastic area to visit, just like the camp we had here last night.

It's another day in what will be an almost three month journey for me and micaparamedic with new things to see along the way. We saw old trains and farming equipment. There was a Yacht Club which is active only when the area has had enough rain. I was pleased to see an inuksuk greeting us as we drove. There were touching cemeteries, an emu with 6 chicks, and the relics of Farina.

The afternoon was spent along the Brachina Gorge Geological Trail which was outstanding. In the late afternoon we had wonderful ice cream bars while I did an earthcache.

I started my travels with micaparamedic in Canada and the US in late July, seeing the Yukon and Northwest Territories, attending the Mega APE event, and camping in Oregon to be in the direct path of a total solar eclipse. There were other day trips to find special caches and see geologically related spots of interest.

Now he is showing me his country, and it's incredible. My bucket list had included walking around Uluru, and now I can cross that off. I also wanted to see some Australian outback, and now that is also crossed off. There are a few more things planned on this journey that will be crossed off as well. Dreams are coming true.

Thanks for this one - I got a lot of the history of the area from micaparamedic.

We were now heading from Leigh Creek to Coward Springs in true grey nomad style as this is our first day of sunshine and we intend to enjoy it picking up a few caches along the way.

What a great dedication to the Afghan's who cameleering skills were excellent. All up the old Ghan you see pictures and monuments to them and their camels. This state and also the territory would have been lost with out them. We weren't expecting such a large cemetery here so we had a pleasant wander through with lot of the graves being unmarked.
The cache itself was a nice easy find exactly where the GPSr said that it should be and our names has been added to the log. We then went up to the War Memorial where we bumped into an old man in his nineties and he told us that he was sent here between 1944-1946 to work in the mine as a fitter and turner. He told us that this town was where he learnt to both fight and drink as at this time it had two hotels and there wasn't a great deal else to do.
The best part was seeing the cheeky outback smile that came to his face as he was reminiscing and to top it off the bakery was open, the first one we have seen in a tent.

Thanks postiegirl06 for the cache.

At the campground,
I took the opportunity to wander up ANZAC hill,
which I recommend any visitor to Farina does Smile
This towne sent a lot of soldiers to war !! [:o]
Which kinda gives an idea of how big it used to be Smile

A short drive from there took me out to the cemetery.
A very desolate place,
but with great views of the nothingness out here Big Grin

What were people doing out here ??
Why did they think growing wheat and sheep was a good idea ??

And down the back of the plots,
I found a couple of lonely stones Smile

And a cache nearby.
