TFTC Ferret52 your cache Former Train Crossing #1 that we found today. An afternoon caching run when the sun had lost some of its bite. Feel a bit silly after yesterdays DNF. Spent too much time focused on the wrong item. After a talk with the CO we came back and there it was. Find Count: 17562
Checked and it is still there. If you are 7 foot tall you may need to watch your head.
A few days in Port Pirie with the muggle Mrs exploring the town and seeking out whatever hides I can.
All caches were is good condition unless stated otherwise.
Another quick find but alas the container has no lid and the log is soggy. This one needs some TLC.
Thank you for the cache Ferret52 Find Number 10647 on 6/07/2023

Southern Autumn adventure Day 37. Mid North section of SA trip Day 8. Port Pirie area Day 3 and travel to Nuriootpa via Lochiel and Balaklava. Before I headed off from Port Pirie, I went for a short loop around to the east of town to get a final few caches. Once On the way, I made a point of stopping at some of the small towns to squeeze in a cache. Once I had arrived at Nuriootpa and set up the van, I took myself on the Barossa Rail Trail with the scooter for ten interesting caches, although it did begin with a DNF.
It seems there used to railways lines everywhere, it is a pity we have become so dependent on road transport.
Thanks for the cache Ferret52

Headed past with the intent of just driving.... yeah... nah... looked and looked AND looked. Nearly gave up and began to walk off then turned around and there it was... as always! could do with a new log book but not one in this vehicle, sorry. TYFTC SLTNLN
Woke up to a chilly morning - hoping it’s going to warm up though. Another day exploring Port Pirie and surrounds with iluvtrekking. Thanks Ferret52
Another cache found with richlink on our 2022 South Australian Adventure. We are enjoying our time travelling SA. Fantastic towns, ruins, beaches and cliffs. Thanks to all the COs for taking us on a geo-guided tour.
while wandering through the area on our way to somewhere else we grabbed this cache with sewthat

Following on from our last trip up this way, we continued to cover the area below Port Pirie, then into the town itself .
Great to see these old railway corridors [^]. Looked for the railway fenceline and followed along to see the old earthworks .
Nice 'hide' in plain sight . TNLNSL.
Thanks for another one Ferret52.

Full time nomads since 2014. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.
Back in SA for harvest work. Spending 2 weeks in Port Pirie, today we attempted a couple some caches after lunch. such a beautiful day to be out and about exploring after the last few days.

Well it’s 2021 and I have finally said good bye to a not so great 2020 and it was great to finally be able to have a reasonable holiday as I have not had a decent break since 2019.
Made to South Australia and finally crossing the boarder and then being greeted by a couple of very friendly SA police offices for which i had the official paper work to allow me to enter.
After making my way west along the Eyre Hwy I went as far as Penong and the Eyre Hwy which I have not travelled along since the late 70’s when I was on a holiday with my folks and this was the last holiday before I started full time work as a sparkie and finding a few caches as I go.
Geocaching when towing a van is not always easy and I have to be a bit selective on which ones I decide to try and find for safe parking purposes especially along busy highways.
So then it was down to the Eyre Peninsula to see the sites down there Venus Bay, Coffin Bay National Park and Lincoln National Park were some highlights and I will come back again to have a better look around.
So after nearly 2 weeks spent on the Eyre Peninsula it was time to start heading back to Victoria but another lockdown in Vic has just occurred so now to change my plans again.
So I rounded the bay and started heading back down the Yorke Peninsula to check this part out.
So after relocating to Crystal Brook I am able to spend the whole day exploring especially after having to wait to get 4 new boots fitted to the Geocruiser so I spent the morning on foot walking around the main part of town.
The weather has definitely warmed up a lot as it is now in the very high 30’s so definitely need to keep hydrated.
Finally picked up the Geocruiser and after meeting the CO earlier this morning he recommended a few caches to look for and this was one of them.
Taking the dirt roads again which is great as they are usually quieter to travel on.
Some more history on the rail network of the area and you can just make out where the line used to be.
So after finally locating the cache I added my name to the log and on to the next one.
Thanks Ferret52 TFTC.

Quick find here, cache is all good
After staying in Port Pirie last night, today Davidwazza and I set out to clean up port Pirie before making a long detour via Jamestown to gawler for an evening event. We had a few targets with a 2001 cache near Jamestown to collect and a few others. All up 68 finds for the day.
Thanks for the cache

This weekend, I joined gridge98 on a quick overnight trip to Port Pirie. The plan was to geocache around the town, and then head across through to Jamestown via Gladstone and Caltowie in order to find a unique hidden month oldie cache nearby. We then joined the geocaching community at the Gawler dinner event.
Today, we got up early and spent the first half of the day travelling around Port Pirie. A few highlights were the views of the lead smelters, the historic main street, and wetlands. Once a bakery lunch was had, we headed east, and found a few geocaches in Gladstone, Caltowie, and Jamestown. We then left some time to visit Bundaleer Forest Reserve for the 05/2001 hidden cache, as that was my last remaining available South Australian Jasmer grid caches. We then drove the few hours south to the international geocaching dinner Gawler event, before heading home.
The last of these former train crossing caches? The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Ferret52 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Away for a caching trip to the Arkaroola area.
A bit of 4 whell driving, lot's of dust and for me 3 punctures. These cut my trip short by a couple of days.
This is a surprisingly busy raod.

Thanks for the easy find. As a local, like bypass road can get quite busy. I struck it lucky as Covid 19 has kept the traffic away while I found, recorded and got back to the car......then 3 cars sped past in a row.
On the way to Millicent Mega and detour and signed the log as EV and thanks for the cache and hide
On our way to Pirie to visit some friends, so we grabbed some smiley's on the way.
Thank you for the cache.

Got stuck into the new year today with Mr Froghoppin,
a nice drive and cache hunt on a cool rainy day!
Mr Frog worked the railways, and gave me much interesting history as we found the cache.

A day out for some caching adventures with Mattycat, still in a moon boot for the broken foot was relegated to navigating, hints and checking for clues if the cache proved elusive while the cat did the searching and signing , never got to work on this section of line having changed over just as I started as a apprentice in Adelaide, but even today the corridor and earthworks of the track is still quite noticible, cache was a quick find for us today

Returning to port to pick up the broken camper, decided on the back way in and a couple of caches. Not a green bison anymore but found it never the less. Tftc
Few signs of the olde line left these days,
yet this railway is shown on me maps !! [:o]
But if you know where to find these caches,
then a keen eye will spot some evidence

Hi there Ferret52.
We found your cache **"Former Train Crossing #1"** at 10:39:00 AM today. (This makes our find count 16053).
Our trek today took us around Port Pirie following the "next closest" route plotted by the GPS. On our trek we found a variety of container types. We ended up finding 17 caches with 2 DNF's.
Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Nothing.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

This one could have taken a while to see, but luck was on our side today. It's been a long time since trains came through this part of the world.
Thanks Ferret52.
Thanks Ferret52.
Port Pirie Day 2
Todays trip was down towards Crystal Brook, mostly on farming backroads.
We took a detour & went up into the foothills of the Southern Flinders Rangers.
A great day out, many scenic locations & learning more of the history in the area.

Nice little bit of local history. Found during a day of clearing some local caches. Tftc
Continued our cleanup of the Pirie caches on this cold windy morning. You have been so busy placing, its only fair that we go and find them. Neat history lesson. TFTC
Last day on the road after 6 weeks away. Started early in Port Pirie and headed through to Wirabarra to grab some of the JLWE caches and finally through Clare to home. TFTC.
Somehow I think it is going to be a bison tube kind of day. Two from two finds being bison tubes after DNF the first two we tried. Thanks
Took us a few minutes to spot as, having just done #2 we were looking in a different location at first. Thanks for the hide!
Beautiful weather, picking up some smiley 's in the Pirie region. Tricky but i came up trumps. Tftc
Nothing left of the railway now. Thanks for a fun cache.
