We used to visit Auckland regularly but maintaining this cache has become an issue lately. I hope someone closer places another cache here - it's a great spot!
I was up here with 3 other keen cachers: rustynz, Aiden29 and tramyard, all who have done this cache. Together we have come up here for an earth cache for International Earth Cache Day. It was lovely and warm and it was tramyard who helped me find this one. All good here today and soon we'll head of to an event by CyclicalCaching. He's off to his home town of Seattle and we will miss him. He has organised an event so we can send him off.
In all my years in Auckland I've never been up here. Quite a challenge actually finding an entrance, and a path but got there eventually. Some of the streets round the area are SO quiet, I'm envious.
What an awesome view from the summit, and cache soon to hand as hint and gps were spot on. Comment about Dogs relevant to, as it seemed just about every canine in Auckland appeared just as I was at GZ...thanks for a great view and a new experience...cheers V

Had a good hunt around but obviously not good enough! Will try again another day
Log book has now been replaced - many thanks to kakesnz for looking after that on my behalf! So this cache is back in business just in time for New Year 2022!
Live locally but was saving this for sometime when I needed something close by! Saw it was disabled & after messaging the CO headed up with a replacement logbook. Was a bit of an adventure finding my way as the work being done in the quarry has closed my usual path up. Stunning day and spent some time at the top having lunch while enjoying the view. TFTC
We are a father and son pair. Zeno (8) and Jon (55). This is our first geocache. We found it! Unfortunately the cache is empty - looks like someone’s taken the logbook.
A nice day to be up here, nice and warm and hardly and wind. There was a car parked pretty much on top of GZ so careful circling and a hopeful reach and fumble revealed the cache which was signed and replaced as found, cheers.
And so, finally, we are allowed to go Geocaching again after just over 7 weeks lockdown when caching, and other non-essential activities were not recommended to be done to reduce the spread of covid, and reduce unnecessary movement through areas. Plenty of time on my hands to solve puzzles, not solve puzzles and read logs of previous finders of caches, and to message a few other cachers to discuss 'stuff.
Not a huge amount of caches found but managed my last 2 regional 'hidden months' (both from 2001) as well a Wherigo and a couple of solved puzzles and a final Ad Lab stage to complete that one. The weather was nice and warm and was good to be on the trails again and not cooped up getting up to meme mischief. Thanks to all COs.

That was an easy find
The paint starts to peel off the cache — it should be repainted sometime soon

I wanted to go for a walk today but didn't want anything too strenuous after a big day yesterday...so naturally I decided to come up a mountain It wasn't too bad though. Cache quickly located and logbook signed. It's in great condition too. TFTC
Was Inna very sneaky spot. Lined pages of log have filled up so might need a new one soon.
Short look
Looked at coords, and down bank. Gz bouncing around under trees.
Unfortunately, not found today

Good climb up the hill and rewarded with great views of a partially foggy city. Tftc
I’ve been wanting to grab this cache for quite some time!
Finally took a nice tour of the Big King area to see the area and find this cache!
It’s a really nice reserve here!
Glad I came by today!
Thanks for placing this cache!

Have been trying to scale all Auckland's volcanoes and Big King was a box we've never ticked off. Delighted to find a cache waiting for us at the top, but had no idea how steep it would be (even using the access road). Great views but leaves you wondering how it would've looked before the other two peaks were quarried.
When Mr Pazza and I suggested to Merlot58 that we wanted to get tanked, I think Merlot got the wrong idea. Even though this wasn't the first time she's got tanked she still jumped at the chance for another opportunity
It's been such a dry summer up here I think many tanks are in need of a top-up. A lovely spot to put a cache, especially for geohounds!

Enjoyed our walk up the to the top and the views over the city. Hide quickly found and log signed. Kiwiscot swapped some badges for a squishy key ring. Daily cache sorted. TFTC
Had a nice walk up here after a tremendous Christmas meal. Great to burn some calories!
TFTC!
TFTC!
After a fantastic Christmas Eve smörgåsbord we took a walk up there for the cache and the view. TFTC and greetings from Sweden!
Found 3.50pm
Good climb up to GZ. Had to wait for a few muggles to move away before I could get cache. Co Ords a few metres out but just follow hint. SLTFTC

A quick find between all the muggles coming up here with there dogs. We also to a break for a spot of lunch with a great view. Good spot to plant a cache
With some of our Team BOP mates: (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, and Philip.Perry. Logs were signed with our Team BOP handle... Today, everyone is looking for a break on the Mystery at the Museum case. We spent most of our morning on the Crayola puzzle trail, and all of these finds have been used to cover case requirements... But our mission isn’t complete, and we need more caches.
The group consensus was to try our luck on the Cluedo mini trail in West Auckland. With several kilometres to travel before we arrived, it would be a given to stop for other hides along the way... While standing at a nearby ground zone, we couldn’t resist the pull to climb up here. A short trek among the walkers and we had this one in hand. A great view from up here! Thanks exodus722 and TFTC.

On the road again with TEAMBOP. It was an early start - McJandals, NZFlossy, Davidson Clan, Squirrel Nutcase & myself crammed into the car with today’s mission - Mystery at the Museum souvenirs. We had Kiwicouples Crayola 64 series on our list but honestly any cache in our way was likely to become a smiley
Cache found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placement. One way to heat up on a cold Winters day. Cheers exodus722, TFTC

On a road trip with Team BOP After doing the Crayola trail we came into Auckland and found some more caches and beautiful parks. Thanks to all the COs for some great caches and please forgive the template as it saves a lot of time back home. Fantastic view TFTC
On a mission with Team Bop. We’re hoping to clear up the mystery at the museum challenge. I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing us here. Cheers Great workout here.
What better way to celebrate sitting my final exam for this semester than to go geocaching! Found myself out in Mt Eden today attempting the new wherigo on the Mt as I had my electric scooter with me. Decided to continue on and pick up all the unfound caches in the area that I've been meaning to find.
Took the electric scooter along the sealed path to the top. Not sure if it was any easier than walking though! A couple of muggles around this afternoon but they quickly moved on so I could find the cache.

I have passed this one by previously as it was a long hike up the hill. Today decided I really bneeded the exercise. Had to wait for all the dogs and owners to move on before looking. Found after a quick search. Thanks exodus722
big king is my local dog walking park, this is the first time i've been here with the dog since starting geocaching. quick find once i got up the hill.
[23:30] I came to the top of the hill because of the night view and cache was a lovely bonus for me. GPS was showing me wrong place but I luckily found it in the end. Thanks a lot!
#3821 Nice walk with our children, even the youngest 1,5 year made it up by himself. Thanks for the cache, greetings from Czech Republic.
Funny thing is that this cache is one of the closest caches to my sister’s place, and it took me until today to muster the energy to get up here, and I could not have chosen a better time. There were indeed many dogs having their day on the way up, and I think everyone thoroughly enjoys themselves here. Got to the top, took in the views and found the cache with little trouble at all. Took a few shots of the sunset, and headed back down before nightfall. TFTC!
Decided to test my currently dodgy back with a hike to the top with TheMexiKiwi seeing as we were in the area already.
Blustery day to be out but definite hints of the sun as well, and we were soon up the top without any dog walkers to worry about. Bit of a hunt around and the cache was soon found in a likely looking spot thanks to a good clue.
No dramas here and an easy walk back to the car - TFTC

Thank you for showing us this place. GPS bouncing for me. Had to search bit more. Well placed! TFTC
After finding a couple down the bottom of the park, I headed on up the hill. Never been up here before, but have driven past a few times in the past. Had to wait for about 10 minutes for muggles with their dogs before I could get a clear run at the GZ, but then quickly found and replaced while I had a small window of opportunity, TFTC
A little bit difficult to get to as there were council peoples around. But we found it and a tracking bug
A family walk up to the top of Big King. Miss Four complained all the way up, but loved going crosscountry down again. Miss One loved it all. Swapped one TB for another. Thanks!
I'm trying to find higher terrain caches as part of a challenge so this one was perfect. It was quite a trudge up there on a hot day with the kids. There were a couple of muggles when we got there but they soon left. The kids loved the Footrot Flats painting up there It was an impressive view up there but after taking in the vista we quickly found the cache and dropped a TB TFTC!
It was hot this morning as we ventured past the Baseballers up the stairs toward the Water Tank. Never been up this far before, a lot of people out walking their dogs so had to wait between groups to make the grab. TFTC
Was able to leave earlier today from work, which gave me some time to geocache on my way home. Enjoyed the view from GZ. TFTC
It’s even steeper when you straight line it! Went around the back to check the view and once I went back around the muggles had left! Deed done and back just in time. Thanks! Still sore from orienteering so might regret this later..
A trip here makes me realise this is the first time up this wee mountain which I find unbelievable. Great spot. No problems locating cache despite lots of mugglers about.TFTC
We had a nice walk through this lovely park as we made the climb to GZ.
There were quite a few muggles around of both the two and four legged variety but only two near GZ and they were busy talking and facing the other way enjoying the view so we used stealth to successfully locate the cache and sign the log behind their backs.
We then enjoyed the view ourselves as well as the wonderful Footrot Flats mural.
Thanks exodus722 for bringing us here.

As I had an early start in the office today, I decided that come late morning it was time to get out and about for a bit of fresh air and blow the cobwebs out of the old brain. I had seen this one on the geo-map a few times, but had never attempted it as I wasn't sure if I could do it and make it back to the office in time... but I thought that I would give it a shot today. So after parking below... the first thing that caught my attention was the multiple pairs of sneakers that were tied together and thrown over the powerlines by where I had parked... this could be an interesting street to live in... It was not too long to the top, and once I was there, thanks to your hint, I soon had the cache in hand. So I was able to sign the log and put it back ok. The log book and cache is in really good condition. However, just after I had put the cache back I was startled by some muggles and their muggle dogs who seemed to materialise out of nowhere. So I simply took a few photos to cover my true purpose in being there. It was while I was doing this that I discovered the tribute to Murray Ball that I thought was really cool. There is also a fantastic view up here and I think this would be a great one to do with kids... a great adventure. I will share some of these photos with this log. So thank you exodus722 for setting up this cache and for introducing me to a very cool park that I would never have been to otherwise. I might even have to come back at some stage with the real canine Sherlock the Puppy... he would love it. TFTC!
Decided to take the direct route to this one but a little out of breath when at the top. Cache is in good shape. TFTC.
I came outside of prime dog walking time, only had to wait for one muggle to leave the top before grabbing the cache.

Out and about for a spot of geocaching today. Taking advantage of the nice autumn weather. I parked up and made the climb up the hill. It was nice to see the new painting of Dog. That wasn't there on my last visit to the summit. Cache was found nice and quickly, between muggles. Cheers for the cache placement!
3rd and last, been here before but failed, of the day. Nice to see the new Murry Ball tribute. Popular with the furry muggles
With news of a piece of art work on the water tower, I knew I needed to make a special hike up the side of the "King" for a peak. Was not disappointed by the views
A busy place, with a few dogs being walked, plus a few humans too
Found the cache with the help of the hint, quickly signed and returned to its hiding place, before the next muggle arrived. Took a few pictures to add to the collection. The last time I was here, was about 5 years ago, and it poured! Luckily its staying dry at the moment!

Found 18/3. Came up here today for a walk and to find this cache which was missing last time we came. Nice easy find right where we were looking last time.
Took a photo with "dog" and I heard he has been allowed to stay after council has bowed to public pressure.

Came here on this sunny day to retry what was a dnf last time when it was missing. After the slog up the mountain with dogs also bounding around the place, geoboy made a quick find exactly where we had searched last time.
Everyone up here today loved seeing "DOG" on the watertower and of course we got a shot with him too. RIP Murray Ball.
TFTC and the exercise.

Up in Auckland for a couple of days work. I had some time to spare this afternoon so headed out to find a few caches. Found a convenient entry point to the reserve and wandered up to the top. Near GZ someone has left a very poignant tribute to Murray Ball which made the walk up the hill all the more worthwhile. great views from here indeed and also a cache. TFTC, Biggles.
Ryan very kindly offered to walk up the hill to make this find. Apparently great views from GZ and the cache was in good condition. Thanks
Well worth the walk up here for the stunning views. We took some photos and enjoyed the scenery before heading back down. Soooo many dogs! TFTC!!
It was far too hot for climbing mountains on this stunning Summers day. We were rewarded with stunning views of Auckland CBD and suburbs. Lots of people enjoying this park, but they took no notice of what we were doing.
