We continued today our tour of several AUS states in the NorthWest and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Earth-Cache.The weather was - said in one word simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood. The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The answers were sent. Thanks to wazza9 for the generation of this nice cache Camooweal Caves Earth Cache. (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they happened.Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood. **Answers sent, my test paper was corrected and permission to log****International Geocaching Day**International Geocaching Day and I probably picked the most furthest cache in Mount Isa LGA to target. It was a Saturday and felt like a drive. After passing through Camooweal twice and pressed for time on those occasions, it was nice to just go for a casual drive and dawdle. The type of thing I like doing geocaching on my own.If I want to get lost in a spot, I do it, without being rushed by others. This spot allowed me to do this. After finding roadside trigs and looking for lost GCA caches earlier, the day was getting away from me and it was time to visit this one.I remember seeing a sign on the way into town from the Isa that said turn left at the pub, but I still forgot it and had to double check. The road you turn down doesnt look convincing but a ended up being a pretty good graded road. As you do, I still had my doubts whether I was going the right way or not...dont trust google maps!Eventually, I made it to waypoint of carparking.Very stoked I was the only one here and was able to immerse myself.Totally gobsmacked when I got to GZ.Wasnt expecting this big hole in the ground like that, and the cracked ground on top.I did climb down the creek, the furtherest down that I could without a rope. At 3:00pm in the afternoon the small canyon was shaded and was lovely on a 31 degree day. What a spot!Did the other waypoint which is overgrown in grass but you can see rocks. **(I would recommend visiting the Nowranie Lake Information Board first before coming here. Its only a one kilometre deviation before coming here...and youre going to go there anyway)** Now that I have been corrected there is something very familiar about this rock. Thanks wazza9 for bringing me here. I dreaded doing the assignment, but relieved after you got back to me.And for some reason this triggered a memory from primary school about my Commonwealth Bank Dollarmite Account. Its been 35 years since I cashed that in.**Favourite Point for a real cool little spot...as in groovy, rad, awesome...not the weather**

While staying at the Billabong near Camooweal I drove out to the caves which I probably wouldn't have done if it wasn't for the EC. So pleased I did as it was very interesting. Collected the required information and have sent off to CO . Amazing how all this flat country is and then you come up with a hole in the ground. As I did this early morning there was plenty of bird life around. Thanks Wazza for the cache.

A very interesting area and well worth the detour. Stopped for morning tea at the nearby watering hole. Answers sent by ESCR for the pair of us. TFTC!

Did a lot of exploring around here despite being slightly worried that the ground was going to cave in underneath us!
The drive was a bit hairy, but we got in and out without incident. TFTEC. Adding a fav due to the uniqueness of this EC. THANKS

Well, what a great earthcache, in a fascinating spot. I have to be honest; we would probably not have gone out here without there being an earthcache. This is one of the bonuses of the activity. So we visited an interesting spot and learnt some new information along the way. Plus I got some good photos.

This is a favourite point from me.

Found together with Chrisva7 who has submitted our answers. Great cache, the caves appearing in flat area rather than cliffs. Sink holes. Well worth the visit. Thank you for taking us there and the learning experience.

Today we stopped in Camooweal as a break overnight on our trip from Brisbane, gradually heading north to Darwin.
It was sunny and chilly with a cool winter wind, as we made our way to the caves.
We were quite astounded by the sink holes and the myriad of caves and tunnels below.
The area is beautiful and there is also a lot of indigenous culture and history here. After visiting the caves, we went to the nearby water hole.
We have sent our answers to the CO.
A lovely point of interest along our adventure.
Thanks wazza9

We camped last night at Camooweal mainly to do the earth cache at the caves river.

We are really glad that this earth cache was here otherwise we wouldn't have visited this spectacular area as we didn't see any mention of it on the way in to town. The road was a little rough after the rain but definitely worth the effort.
We certainly aren't geologists but since we have started chasing earth caches we are slowly increasing our knowledge about this planet we live on and the marvelous forces of mother nature.
We really enjoyed collecting the information here and taking in the views and our answers have been sent off to the CO we hope that they are good enough for our log to remain, if not we will happily delete it.

Many thanks wazza9 for the cache, a favourite point from us.

A very interesting location. So much can’t be seen and is hidden by the bit we can see. TFTC

Into the fourth week of my solo trip north into Queensland from Adelaide and, after spending a couple of days in and around Mount Isa, its time to head west into the Northern Territory. My original (rather loose) plan was to possibly go a bit further north to Lawn Hill. However its a bit late in the season and things have warmed up a bit too much (particularly for walking and camping), so I’ll leave that trip for another time.

After arriving in Camooweal I headed south to check out the National Park and to complete this earthcache.

Impressive sinkholes. I am very familiar with the sinkholes on the Nullarbor and around Mount Gambier, but these are quite different.

It was then off to the waterhole for some lunch.

Thanks wazza9 for another interesting earthcache.

Sent answers to CO after visiting the caves while camped outside Camooweal. A drive to the caves gave us the opportunity to look for birds but not a lot around this area. Amazing info on the caves. TFT Earthcache wazza9

Visited this location last month and just realised we missed logging it. A spot we would not have visited but for geocaching. Thanks wazza9 for creating this earthcache and highlighting this location.
Logging with permission.

While spending a few days in this amazing place we are visiting the many ‘tourist’ spots and hunting a few caches while we’re at it

We decided a drive to Camooweal and the border should be on the agenda and couldn’t’ pass so close without dropping in to this amazing place

We were gobsmacked at the fantastic geology here. An email will be sent to the CO shortly.

Many thanks for showing us this amazing place wazza9 ....a favourite point from us

We are camped near the billabong in Camooweal having a rest day as we continue our meandering across northern Australia after attending the Red Centre Experience over Easter. Seeing whose cache it is, I just had to drive out to gather the required information. Hoping the answers that I have sent to the CO are all good, so am logging this my 2nd cache for the day.
Thanks for placing this Earth cache here wazza9. I would never have visited here without it.

Detour around Australia - family of 6 travelling in a camper trailer for 6 months!!

We spent lovely 3 nights camped literally camped in the river at Camooweal. We absolutely loved the starry nights here as we sat around our campfire each night!!! We visited Camooweal Caves NP and really enjoyed this earthcache - the park isn't very well advertised and we could well have missed this interesting spot without this cache! A surprise to find they are sinkholes and not really caves we were expecting! Thanks for the cache - enjoyed it very much - although the kids bouncing about over the rocks did make me very nervous!!!

Moving day today.

True to form we didn't leave till 10.00am, and hoping to get to our next camp before dark o'clock.

We managed to arrive by 1.30pm in Camooweal so then headed on out to visit the Caves. Info gathered and messaged to the CO.

Met up with CO at the Red Centre Experience and felt that I had to visit these caves.
Had a free day in Mount Isa and went for the drive.
Enjoyed the caves, wished I had brought climbing gear and a friend to explore the underworld here.
Collected answers for the EC and then went to the waterhole, another great place!

Thanks for the cache

We stayed at Camooweal for a couple of days so drove out to look at the caves.
After driving along the flat countryside we were amazed to come across these caves. We found them quite special & lots of information learnt from visiting them
Thanks wazza9 for placing this EC

We decided to take an early morning drive out to the caves before another day of heat set in. The long dusty track soon changed to reveal black dusty patches where signs of bogged wallowing vehicles which had been swallowed up during the recent rains could be seen. We finally found ourselves at the end of the track where an information board stood proudly to tell all who cared to read about the indigenous history of this special sacred area, it also told of white mans attempts to decipher the secrets of the large sinkhole.

The ficus that attempted to hide the entrance to the sinkhole was an unexpected surprise, nowhere else could this variety of shrub be seen and one has to wonder how it came to be here as guardian to the cave.

We thank the traditional owners the Indjalandji-Dhidhanu People for allowing us to share their sacred place.

The answers required to claim a find on this cache will be forwarded to the cache owners as soon as we have better reception.

thanks Wazza9

We've been to the Mega at Alice Springs and now on the homeward stretch so still looking for caches.

Loved this earth cache and the isolation of the site is pure magic.

Thanks for the cache wazza9.

visited this area recently on a trip down south. Stayed in Camooweal overnight on our return trip and had the time to go out to this earthcache. I think the trickiest thing about the cache was getting there on the tracks and someone has been through here recently when it has rained and has gauged out the track in some places quiet badly. I think they may have got bogged several times along here. The area here looks like there is nothing to see, until you get there and you are meet with a magnificent huge sink hole--much bigger than I expected to see in this land. Thanks for bringing us here. answers have been sent to CO.

My first and probably last earth cache, while i enjoy learning about our beautiful country, this is not why i geocache. I geocache to see spectacular locations such as this one that few others see and i just want to enjoy the tranquility - not be subjected to the third degree like i was still at school. So TFTC
