We continued today our tour of several AUS states in the NorthWest and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Earth-Cache.The weather was - said in one word simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood. The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The answers were sent. Thanks to Beardman75 for the generation of this nice cache Mesa Not Very Verde (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they happened.Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood. Great spot to admire the geology. It was pretty windy today when we stopped here for morning tea. I was very keen to climb the subject of this cache but resisted the temptation
Stopped here while travelling along the highway. Worked out some answers which have been sent to the CO. Thanks for creating this EC.
Found the cache with TBU1Bikesu on 10/10/23Thanks for the earth cacheBeardman75
I've sent answers long ago, we camped just the other side of this earth cache for a day of rest.TFTc
TBU came up for QOGM No. 5 in Longreach. Before, during and after QOGM 2023 we met fellow cachers, enjoyed talks, meetings, eating, drinking, having fun and of course caching. Then we headed on to Mount Isa where we stopped at this earth cache. Answers with photo were sent to CO on 25.9.23.Tftc Beardman75
Visited this Earth Cache with Deanside, Team Astro, Tenkae, joojoo57 and myself while up in Winton. Answers sent to CO on behalf of the group by Team Astro. Great day out here, so far from home (Brisbane) TFTEC Beardman75

On our recent trip out west, this was a nice leg stretch to break the long journey on our way back home.It is amazing how you can be driving along, and then suddenly, out of the blue, the landscape changes so dramatically. This area was lovely to view and certainly a great talking point. Our agreed and combined answers have been submitted by our team captain RoddyC. (Team of RoddyC, hatzofff, grannysmith1947, and myself)Thank you, Beardman75, for placing this awesome earthcache, a favourite point from me
On our long journey back home from Mount Isa, after the Longreach QOGM.This certainly is an interesting spot. I particularly liked the tree-laned Mesas on the western side of the highway.Answers are compiled as a group and sent to the CO.Thanks for making us stop here and appreciate another natural beauty.
While visiting Winton with our QOGM team we just had to go those few extra K's to visit your EC. There are certainly some great geological formations around Winton! After compiling a group response the answers were sent via Team Astro. Thanks B75 for showing us around this area.
On the way to Winton to stayed there for two nights. Sent the answers to CO. . Here's one to find today.Thank you for placing the earthcache Beardman75.
Day 18A big day of driving ahead of us from Winton to Mt Isa with not many caches in between. The wind is whipping the car from side to side along the flat plains of the highway but luckily we have noticed the wind dies off in the afternoon. Our first stop for the morning had us admiring the Mesas around us. After reading the description we have come up with our answers and sent them off to the CO.Thanks Beardman75 for the earthcache placement, we enjoyed the geology lesson of our fascinating surrounds.
Always like a good mesa. Location features reminiscent of area near horseshoe bend on the Finke.
Found on a sojourn all around on the way to QOGM 2023. A fun jaunt with lots of dust, mud and starry skies.
Thanks Beardman75 and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet! Thanks for the fun with Tenkae.

Caching the area during Longreach QOGM 2023 with a great bunch of people teamed up and signing under TADJR which incorporates Deanside , TeamAstro, Tenkae, Joohoo57 and RichmondLad. Just loving these outback trails, red dust, green foliage and blue skies!

Departed Melbourne the other day and travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel. Leaving Barcaldine this morning and heading north east again hoping to find somewhere for the night just past Winton, Kynuna sound nice. I'll be heading out first thing in the morning through Longreach and Winton
Feal like a real cowboy with all this scenery...

We were driving from Richmond to Winton and stopped here to gather the information. Could debit from the car as it was hot outside and there were a few flies around.
They are a bit of a surprise to see after some very flat land.
Thanks for putting this earth cache together

We travelled 8,500km through 5 states for a 60th birthday party over approx. 6 weeks. We endured many days over 35C and then saw a lot of water in the eastern states. We enjoyed travelling east with family and then they travelled back to Alice and we made our way home to SA, trying to dodge the rain and wet weather.
Caching is a great way to see the many wonderful sights and learn about the places we are travelling through.
Thank you to those who take the time to hide caches

making our way further south and east on our adventure, we were happy to gradually be arriving in Winton for a couple of nights.
The drive had been long, and with very little reason to stop along the way.
As we got closer to Winton, we began to notice in the distance, some spectacular Rocky outcrops.
This earth cache lead us to understand what a “Mesa” is.
We certainly found a few more of these over the next couple of days.
The area is really quite beautiful, and it was great to have the opportunity to learn a little bit more about the palaeontology and geology of the area over the couple of days we have spent here.
It was also lovely to find this earth cache, placed by a fellow Brisbanite!

Huge Star Wars fan love the title of this cache snd I immediately think of Star Wars. Saw this formation on our trip into Winton. We’ve been exploring North Queensland for 5 weeks now slowly making our way home to Northern NSW. TFTC
A nice opportunity to stop and break up the drive. Parked up and set about answering the questions - kinda wish we could get out and explore up close I k ow the teenager was also hoping for a rock scramble.
Kinda glad to have this one completed as ever since it made the trip list I keep looking at the title and the voice of Jar Jar Binks pops in my head.

I half expected Yul Brynner to appear in a black cowboy outfit!
Aquilus1 & I are on a mission to visit every LGA in Australia and on this short & sweet 5 day mission we went from Cairns to the Northern Territory and back again. 3400km's, 1 flat tyre, 600-700 kangaroo's seen, 1 hit, and all the other fauna & flora.
What a nuts adventure!
Day 1: Arrive in Cairns at before noon, grab the car and immediately off to Guyala for the first LGA of the day. During the day we saw massive trees, and old virtual and some earthcaches.....and at least 200km of dirt road without seeing anything at all except for one car. Limped into Hughenden from The Lynd about 9:15pm. Had to spend 15 minutes killing mozzies in the room before I was willing to go to bed.
Day 2: Leave Hughenden after admiring the windmill & the dinosaur for a day of largely earthcaches.....and long dirt roads that were marked '4WD only'. Our mightly little pretend SUV ate them for breakfast. Had a mad scramble for accommodation at the end of the day in Cloncurry.....eventually getting a cabin at the 'Road Runner'..... which clearly has a poor reputation based on the looks we got when mentioning it. Local event was great and met TeamPops for the first time.
Day 3: Left The Curry on the way to The Isa.....detoured south a bit before returning and doing some cool gadget caches by drrnrchr...some real talent there! Then off to the NT of course, as you do! From there it was a slog to Burketown...."up the dirt" which was a very poor road. Got the flat right near the end of the worst stretch so then limped in at 50-60km/h for the next 3 hours. I have never seen so many roo's in all my life and I live in Canberra which has a serious roo problem.....it was crazy. We arrived just near closing of the pub & takeaway and the town was in party mode....then 15 minutes later was completely silent.
Day 4: At sparrows got the car to the awesome guys at Nowland to fix the puncture. This was the day for visiting the aboriginal LGA's, we checked in for our 30 minute Mornington Island flights at the Shire Council, first time I have ever done that! Doomadgee was visited as well, the road there being excellent with an exciting river crossing for fun......and we discovered it was actually Mabo Day so we were very lucky to visit on that day, the towns were fascinating, the Rosie's chicken at the Doomadgee roadhouse delicious. Heading east along the Savannah way, we saw a croc & a canberra cacher....of all the things!
Day 5: Another long day from Croydon to Mareeba, with my first Queensland FTF as well on an amazing earthcache at Einasleigh....more swful roads but thankfully these were the very last! As always an interesting hunt for accommodation, but it all worked out.
Day 6: This was a relaxed day just cleaning up the few surrounding Cairns LGA's and cruising into the airport...where they tried to charge me $500 for having a puncture that was now repaired...jeez guys, c'mon! Sorted out quickly but I was set to 'ramming speed' for a few moments.

Driving towards these it looked like one big range but it's so much more. These are really fascinating and so cool I really loved them.
With GreyHams we set out on an epic 5 day caching trip from Cairns, to the Northern Territory and back again. 3400km via Burketown with the occasional detour off into different directions as was needed! Looong straight roads, many on dirt or rock and rough but luckily only the 1 flat tyre. Camels, a crocodile, wildlife in abundance of numbers and types and a crazy number of kangaroos after dark it was a little scary! Such a great trip through all the LGA's and we saw so much!
Day 1: We arrived in Cairns after midday to pick up the car with several hours of driving ahead of us to get to Hughenden. With road reports having just changed to open after recent rains it was a little unknown what was ahead of us. 'Drive to conditions and 4WD'... down the Lind in the dark and not a car to be seen for hours... we found out why! Some old caches, virtuals and earth caches to stop at, it was a good start into a few areas otherwise easy to drive by and miss their little discoveries.
Day 2: With reports of snow falling back home in Canberra we woke to a pleasant sunny day of blue sky and warmth. Hughendens windmills and dinosaur visited and then off into the unknown of more dirt roads of 'drive to conditions and 4WD' and a fascinating day of Earthcaches through the region. Cloncurry was our stop overnight and despite its many accommodation options it was a long search before the 'have you tried the road runner?' It proved better than expectations and as usual things just worked out. The Leichharde for dinner was a good snitty hotel, an event at the central was great to meet some local cachers and proved to be the steak place as we saw!
Day 3: The most epic of all days of the trip in the distance and events. Leaving The Curry it was up to The Isa, some local caching, local cachers and then south for a bit before returning through The Isa and off to the Northern Territory. Camooweal to Burke 'up the dirt' rough, rocky, lots of creek crossing, AKA 'dips' and a bit of water in places. A flat trye slowed things dramatically, after the crazy number of little kangaroos and 3 hours to travel 160km we limped into a thriving Burketown relieved to have made it with only 1 roo casualty. The hotel was a busy and friendly place, dinner at the closing TA and then the hotel closed and silence...
Day 4: Started off at the great guys at Nowlands who had the tyre repaired quickly. Checked in for our flight to Mornington and then off to the Burketown bore and wetlands while we wait, cool spot! Doomadgee missed the day before, we squeezed it in today which was worth the drive, the roos of the night made way for so many wedgies on the road and stopped overnight in Croydon at a great Queenslander hotel with the best meals and the best sauces to go with them. Yummy, caching fuel!
Day 5: Croydon to Mareeba, with a FTF opportunity at Einasleigh Gorge, great geology and a lovely discovery, lunch at the hotel and then off down some more dirt roads, creeks, water and corrugations, the road crews keep busy out these ways and we were pleased to meet some along the way! A little scramble for accommodation but Mareeba pushed us a little further and was well placed.
Day 6: A casual morning collecting a few local LGA's around the Cairns area before returning the tough and mighty little hire car and the flights down south to winter... aargh! Sunny Queensland, you will be missed!
Such a great trip, long days, long roads, landscapes and wildlife of such variety and abundance. Great caches, people and memories. Thanks for your cache that guided us through this area!

Left Cunnamulla after QOGM 2021 heading to Sth Australia, Then WA then back to Cairns June 2022. 3 October 2021 1:01 pm Tyfc Beardman75 total caches now 2674
On our way from longreach to mt isa today. Have been to Winton before, so are familiar with jump ups, but this location was a bit extra special. Maybe it was being up so close, or how many there were, or that it felt like you were in the Wild West. Either way, it’s a very cool location. TFTC here and giving us a (extra) reason to stop and appreciate it
Hi there Beardman75.
We found your cache **"Mesa Not Very Verde"** today.
We're full time grey nomads, currently avoiding COVID hot spots on our way to QOGM in Cunnamulla. Today we cached around Winton and found 4 caches in a variety of container types and sizes (& DNF'd 0).
Thank you for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places to visit on our nomadic wander around Australia.
Regards
Ian & Penny.

This is Australia’s version of Death Valley on a much smaller scale. This area has fascinating geology from Chillagoe to Karumba to Winton. We have enjoyed travelling through this area and learning so much from the earth caches along the way
Full time nomads since 2013. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.
Moving today retracing our steps of the past few months. Why? Because we cant get to SA without going through NSW! Thanks Covid. [:(!] Today with caravan on tow from Winton to Cloncurry.

Day 3 of 8 (Longreach to Cloncurry) of a Queenslander road trip (you know you're responsible for this, right??!! ) with Kestal, clocking just over 4000km, to tick off boxes for different challenges. Nice spot to get out and stretch and look at something different. Kestal sent answers on behalf of us both. Thanks Beardman for making us slow down and look around.
Heading west to Mount Isa and stopped to grab some caches along the way and this was one of them. I was going to go via Boulia but a few caches further along the highway grabbed my attention.
I parked nearby and sat around gathering the information needed and hopefully I got things right.
Nice spot to stop and an interesting EC.

I didn’t expect to be back here. The Mesa is smaller than I remembered it but still here so all good
CO generously offered to drive today, lucky that I had woken up by the time we got here.
It is a cool one, far from 400 meters
Thank you for hiding this geocache Beardman75

Having spent a couple of days in the land of mesas, this was a good one to farewell these awesome Jump Ups.
We stopped, looked at the one in question, agreed on what our answers would be, took a few photos of nearby specimens, and on we went.
Thank you for helping us understand and appreciate this beautiful landscape!

Nice little break with a history lesson. Enjoyed the view and sent all answers to the CO. Thanks
Thank you for this Earthcache. On a road trip to Porcupine Gorge and stopped to check out some mesas and stretch the legs.
Cheers

Answers sent. Doing a drive from Longreach to Barkly NT and found this one along the way. My only Winton LGA cache until next time I pass through (more slowly).

Was lucky to pass this Earthcache site on the way from Richmond to Winton on our Dinosaur drive. Fantastic spot to pull over and stretch the legs. The mesas here are really something special. We have sent our answers to the CO. Thanks for placing this Earthcache here, ensuring we stopped to enjoy the view. Off to Winton where a few other Earthcache await. Learning lots. Cheers. Brahms6 found this one on 18th August m. Free camped her with the van. Went for a walk around the hills and got some nice shots.
It's a very unusual rock formation and a strange little place. Good spot for a stop and to stretch the legs.

My muggle husband and I are on our way from Brisbane to Mt isa and after staying at winton it was a short drive to mt isa. It was great to have a stop here and we were amazed how it was so flat and then from a distance it looked like one big mountain but getting closer we could see the Mesa's. Answers sent to the co. We only spent a little while out of the car as it was 41 degrees outside. It was great to learn about the surroundings. Thanks for taking us here and for placing this earth cache here for us to enjoy
An interesting part of QLD and a great set of questions for the Geoson’s to answer during the long drive

On my way to the qld muster. Thanks for highlighting these. I’ll send answers when I set up camp.
This is an interesting area. From the distance the hills appear to be one...once at gz however they are noticeably separate with a knob on top. Across the road is the white entrance into the mine..plumes of dust mark where work is taking.place. Thanks for giving us a reason to stop here.
Visited this picturesque site on our way to Cloncurry. Will send answers when we have better internet coverage.
These mesas are brilliant, and totally unexpected on such a flat plain. I have cobbled together some answers and hope they pass muster. I am now going to inspect the geology of the boulder opal in the Winton shops.
TFTC. We are in Winton for a week. After viewing Lark Quarry the other day we decided to take a trip out to GZ. We have passed this area several time before we started to cache. This trip we were going to Hughenden and miss this GZ. We stopped at the rest area and made the observations and then drove back to Winton. Thanks for bringing us out here and being able to learn a bit more about the geology of the area.
TFTC Thank pointing out this interesting geological structure. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.

Arrived in Winton and most of the roads were closed. On the second day of our trip the road to Cloncurry was open so we made the drive out here. Spectacular views as you approach the Jump up. A lot of traffic especially road trains on the road both ways on the day we ventured out.

This landform is definitely a standout if you are travelling westward with nothing but either flat or gently rolling country for hundreds of KM. Thanks vennfamily for the geology lesson
7850 Awaiting permission to log. Email sent no reply at this time 24/11/18.
Thanks for the earth cache It provided a stop and a discussion about the geology of the area. The mesas do break up the landscape. It’s great to learn a bit more about the formation.
Found on our 2018 mega trip with Roostaman.

**# 21808** Found on our 2018 mega adventure to ACT, NSW, QLD and beyond.
Another perfect Winter day for a trip westward after leaving Winton.
Hardly any muggles again today and a few good quick finds.
We stopped here for a cuppa break and a good look at the mesas.
Thanks for the earthcache vennfamily,

Travelling through Central Queensland on our way back to the Northern Territory. Caching along the way, makes our journey interesting, and the stops are great to have a stretch as well. Stopped here for a coffee break and to gather the required information. Thanks vennfamily for an informative earth cache.
The landscape around here reminded us a lot of Utah in the USA. The mesas around here were smaller but no less impressive. This was a very interesting area and we enjoyed the opportunity to stop and admire it a little more closely.
Thank you vennfamily for this Earthcache, it was a great spot to stop and have a break.

Continuing on our trek east grabbing caches along the way. TFTC.
Interesting features after a pretty flat drive.

We have spent the past few days driving from Toowoomba to Mt Isa, and have been lucky enuf to be able to break our journey to find lots of caches on the way. This earth cache was one of them!
What a great illustration of the weathering effect and erosion on these mesa "hills". It certainly was an unexpected sight after driving for so long through flat country with grassy plains to either side of us. We have come across mesa "ranges" several times on our travels and they are often quite spectacular. One memorable place being the Breakaways East of Cobber Peddy.

We made a stop as we travelled the highway, to study this earthcache. We used logic and did a bit of research to construct some answers to the questions, as no specific info was available at the site. These answers have been sent to the CO and we are happy to be able to log the find.
Thanks to vennfamily for creating this cache and giving us something to observe and think about, while trying to do the cache successfully.

We were glad to stop to view this beautiful scenery and stretch the legs...and also to log a cache
A message will now be sent to the CO with the required answers.
Many thanks for encouraging us to stop....and learn a little more of the local geology
Another nice earthcache, thanks Beardman75

What a day. Just driving for hours. We only stopped for toilet. The strange thing was, looking through the window of the car and it looked same like one hour before, like two hours before, like three hours before...
All the time I checked, if we were driving or parking. Therefore these Mesas were a very wellcome change of view...
Thank you for this Earth Cache.

Thanks for giving us something to do on this long stretch. We have always found the jump ups interesting.
Tftc, we noticed this area on our trip north so we were pleased to see there was an earth cache here, gave us a good reason to stop and get out of the car.
We arrived in Winton a little later than we had thought yesterday and there was no way none that we were going to keep driving without picking up the caches in the area and that's what we spent the morning doing as well as a few touristy things before heading towards Cloncurry
Standout geological place around here are a bit rare, that's not to say that the rest of the country is boring, it's just that these jump ups add so much to the journey and we were quite happy to stop and collect the answers to the best of our ability as well as take the opportunity to grab a picture.
The answers were sent off to the CO and are logging with permission.
Thanks vennfamily for setting this one up, a favourite point from us.
