WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 134 - Banka Banka Station to Barkly Roadhouse via Tennant Creek. I did ot think I was slow getting up, but when I opened th door nearly everyone else had left already. h well. I did my thing in my time and was on the road soon enough and for once not too hot, but the wind had come up. I took a detour into Tennant Creek for much cheaper fuel than at Threeways and was then able to do a side trip for an earth cache. Once on the Barkly highway it was a head wind all the way to the Barkly Homestead where the campground was a bit dusty in the wind. They have had a bit of a makeover after the floods and the main building is very swish. The tent ovals looks great as well. I cooked dinner and did a bit of work on the van before a noisy windy night. Tomorrow is a longish drive to Mount Isa.The six kays of bumpy road brought me to a spot I have not visited before. The pebbles here are not as dramatic as the marbles closer to the highway, but there area s a whole is very impressive. It was nice to get close to a few specimens and I have put together my answers and sent them in.Thanks for the cache Seemyshell48992.1 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2011 Compass Rose Daybreak A#211**Albida**
Stopped here for a couple of hours. This is an amazing location. Earth cache answers sent to the cache owner for review and approval.Freddo and e.gregory1 were heading up the middle of Australia following Stuart's well trodden route. We were travelling in air conditoned comfort and style. No stale food. No camels to carry water. We were leaving the cold winter for the northern season.Today was the day to find this cache. Today is the twelth day of Augustus Caesar's Month in the wonderful year of twenty twenty four. We found your cache container and added some inky stuff to the paper sheet or note pad you have supplied for a log book or scroll. The cache container and log book or scroll were in good condition. It was a little cooler. Still no wind today. With the log signed and the cache replaced it was time to leave. Onwards to the next cache. Woot, that is not to far.I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. I wish to pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Seemyshell, I found Kunjurra (The Pebbles) today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
On our way south again after 10 days in Darwin, heading to QOGM at Longreach.

Staying in Tennant Creek for a couple of nights while heading back down the track to Adelaide. Have visited Tennant Creek many many tomes but never have visited the pebbles. Today was the day to visit them. Parked in the carpaark and wandered around the loop, observing the sights and making notes on requirements for this earthcache.
Enjoyed the wander.

Day Five: Threeways to Alice Springs
Weather: sensational!
First cache of the day, and I’m the only one here in the cool of the morning. Answers submitted by message.
The Pebbles are fenced off, but it’s not hard to find one outside the fence line to help with the Earthcache questions.
Not quite as spectacular to The Devil’s Marbles, but well worth the short diversion from the highway for a look.
Thanks for putting an Earthcache here Seemyshell.

Travelling with richlink from Perth to Darwin along the west coast and returning home through the centre and the Nullarbor. We always enjoy a good Earth Cache thanks seemyshell.
Travelling with iluvtrekking up the WA coast to NT and down through the Centre to SA and back home across the Nullabor. After overnighting at Banka Banka Station we are travelling through Tennant Creek to Devils Marbles. Awesome spot that we had to ourselves. Gathered the info to send to the CO.
Day 36 of our greynomad trip up north and after a the JLWEvents, a tour of Maralinga and caching to claim LGAs in the Eyre Peninsula, we are attempting to escape the southern weather that has been wet and windy.

On the road again, and on our way from Daly Waters to Alice Springs for about a week but we will be stopping at a couple of spots along the way to break the trip up, tonight we are stopping at the Barrow Creek WW2 Staging Camp site. Sadly we’re heading further south into the colder climates
The road in was a little bumpy but not too bad going out, we were singing “We’re All Shook Up” along the way, we cleaned up the caravan floor when we got back to the highway.
The Pebbles were great, just like marbles only smaller

Work done for the day and having access to an appropriate vehicle means making the most of an opportunity to explore. Kunjarra was another fascinating area to visit, I wouldn't have come here if it wasn't for the earth cache. Slowly I'm learning how dreaming stories tie significant cultural sites together. The more I learn the more I want to learn

Today we found an earth cache in the Northern Territory.
It would seem that there are many amazing geological places to visit in this part of Australia.
Heading north from Brisbane, we have arrived finally in the Northern Territory, and are spending a few days around Tennant Creek.
The landscape is amazing and today we had the opportunity to visit the Kunjurra (The Pebbles).
Blue sky, a biting cold wind, red ground, beautiful rock formations, and birdlife amongst the trees. It was awe inspiring!
For this earth cache, we have sent our answers to the CO.
Thanks Seemyshell! You have found another amazing gem in this country.

Came along here and stopped in to check out The Pebbles with ilook4geo. Have sent our answers to the CO and only had a short visit there as no camping is allowed in the area. Love these outback features. Thanks for creating this earth cache go to Seemyshell.
Stopped in here with goingplaces2 to have a look at this natural feature. Sent answers to CO and received approval to log. TFTEC.
It was ok. Not as good as Devil's Marbles. We're staying at Tennant Creek on contract at PPK and love traveling and seeing sites like the Pebbles . The road was very bumpy but the sunset is amazing
My husband and i are on a 8000km road trip from Brisbane to Uluru and tonight we are staying at Tennant Creek where i saw this earth cache nearby and i know they always take you to the best places. The road in was bumpy but it was worth the drive to GZ where we had the place to ourselves and loved all the different colors of these rocks. We gathered what information we could and sent it to the CO. Im glad it has been kept a sacred sight. Thank you for taking us here and for placing this cache here for us to enjoy
We didn't see rocks as big as the other people so maybe we didn't walk far enough. Nor did we see a Pebble Mound Mouse or a home of one. Answers to be sent to CO after this. No photos of us but one of the area and the sign. Thank you for bringing us here.
I recently visited Kunjurra (The Pebbles) during a trip from Adelaide to the northern tip of Australia and back. Traveling up solo along the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, then through central Queensland to Quilpie, Blackall, Barcaldine, Hughendon and Ravenshoe to Cairns. In Cairns I met up with e.gregory1 and a non-cacher friend and spent three weeks on Cape York Peninsula before making our way back to Cairns and Mareeba. From there I headed on my own back home via Normanton and Karumba, Cloncurry, Mount Isa, Tennant Creek and back down the Stuart Highway through Alice Springs to Adelaide. All in all I spent six weeks on the road, visited many out of the way locations, enjoying the scenery and finding caches along the way. Thanks for the earthcache at a very scenic location Seemyshell!
Whoops I posted the answers in my log so a quick rehash. Love these rock. We were travelling from Katherine to Tennant Creek and I had a feeling that I had been here in my pre-caching days. But my caching passion demanded a new visit. When we got here I could not remember coming here, though I am sure we would have. Shame you can't camp here. I have sent my answers and hope they are all OK.
Leaving the warmth ️ and starting the trek south to cooler climes grabbing caches along the way TFTC
TFTC. I’ve given it a favourite as it is an amazing outcrop . We walked around it. I took heaps of photos. I’m visiting from the Hunter Valley near Newcastle in NSW. We were staying in Tennant Creek overnight and decided to visit some of the famous locations with caches.

Day 24 of my solo camping trip north from Adelaide.
I travelled up the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, then through central and western Queensland, eventually ending up at Mount Isa. I then crossed into the Northern Territory to Tennant Creek via the Barkly Highway where I found a spot to roll out the swag last night.
This morning I completed a few caches around Tennant Creek before starting to make my way south down the Stuart Highway towards Alice Springs, doing the caches along the way. But as seems to be my way with these trips, I got a bit distracted. I noticed two earthcaches that looked to be in interesting locations off the Binns Track well east of the Stuart Highway and north of the Plenty Highway, and thought I’d head there for tonight instead.
This was my first cache for the day. Had they still permitted camping, I might have stayed here last night, although I did find a much better spot anyway. I had a bit of a wander around admiring the formations. Nice area.
Thanks Seemyshell for an interesting earthcache.

With the current climate of restrictions lifting, its time that we are all allowed to go Geocaching once again.
To help stop the spread of Covid-19, The Australian and NSW Governments requires everybody to stay at home unless you are: shopping for essentials, receiving medical care, exercising or travelling to work or education.
While some people would regard going geocaching as a form of exercise, it is my personal opinion that this activity is a non-essential one, perhaps involving unnecessary travel and therefore should not be undertaken during this time of crisis.
Who knows how long this pandemic will last! Right now, every one of us has an important part to play in helping to keep our families, friends and the wider community safe in the fight against the spread of Covid-19, by staying home.
As a result of the health authority’s directive, I have decided to disable all my caches and respectfully request that no person seek out and claim a find on any of my hides whilst the caches are disabled.
Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to bringing my caches back into play as soon as the health crisis abates, and stay safe.
Cheers

Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was simply driving from Katherine to Tennant Creek.
On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Earth-Cache.
Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.
Thanks to 'Seemyshell' for showing us this location, for the fun we had with 'Kunjurra (The Pebbles)' and for the smiley. The search for the needed answers here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.
Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest, prairie, desert or outback .

From october 16 to november 6 2019, my wife (lp.dk) and I visited Australia for the first time.
After a flight of more than 20 hours, we landed in Darwin. After 2 nights in the city we continued in a rented car first towards Kakadu National Park and later towards Alice Springs.
In Alice Springs we were picked up in an off-road bus and went on a 3-day trip into the wilderness, with overnight stays in a tent close to Uluru.
Back in Alice Springs we drove all the way to Adelaide, from where we flew to Sydney, where we visited our son who has settled there.
After 5 days in the city, we flew back to Singapore, which we visited for 2 days before the final flight back to Copenhagen.
In total, the trip lasted just over 3 weeks.
On the trip we would like to find / visit as many Earth caches, Virtual and Webcams as possible, but also the other kinds of caches when possible.

This a late log due the photos being stuck on a phone that died on the trip. This was a long waited trip with our kids, who we took out of school for three months. We did a similar trip same time in 2005. We loved this trip that had so many memories. We enjoyed exploring here. A really unique and special place. Thanks for bringing us here.
After staying overnight at Karlu Karlu, we called in for a visit to its little cousin. We did not know about this gem of a spot. Looks like a great place to can as well.

On a road trip to Darwin with muggle mate we stopped here for morning tea and to check out The Pebbles. I'm allowed one cache per day but there's two around here and this was the second one for the day! We did a walk around the track and I was quite impressed by these natural features. I got the required info and sent answers to CO. I enjoy these natural ECs rather than a block of sandstone wall in the City! Definitely a FP from Brew. The Bebes Boot enjoyed the visit too! TFTEC SMS

Hi there Seemyshell - today is a travelling day - from Barkly Roadhouse to Threeways and Tennant Creek. Answers have been sent in to the CO. Sadly there were a lot of nomads camped in this spot and I mentioned my disappointment to a couple of Rangers while there. This is our find #4945 - thanks to Seemyshell for this cache.
Another EC!
Apologies for the generic log, we have a few months on the road ahead of us so data and time are precious, better we log now than try and remember in three months time and fluff it up! We will try to add a little custom sentence or two here for those special caches. So what are we upto? TeamThommo are off on their annual 'Big Trip' this year it's a 'Great Northern Adventure'.
This year we have a couple of months to travel; we started at our home in South Gippsland and moving North through Vic & North West through South Australia and then up into the N T, stopping at lots of little curious spots along the way with our first major stop Coober Pedy. We then plan to spend time at Uluru, Alice Springs, Lake Argyle, Broome and beyond.
Geo mum is the main cacher in the family and needs to pick and choose which caches are done otherwise the rest of the team will get 'sick of caching'. We particularly like Earth Caches and letterboxes.
Thank you for supplying us with a cache to do along the way.

Still travelling NT after the Red Centre Experience but now moving towards Birdsville in QLD for the Big Red Bash.
Moving day today. True to form we didn't leave till 10.00am, and hoping to get to our next camp before dark o'clock.
Moving from Daly Waters to Threeways, but having heard about this great campsite along the road and then finding out there was a new cache there well ho hum decisions decisions. Topped off by finding out that fuel was 30c cheaper at Tennant Creek than threeways the decisions was then made.
Must have been about 50km North that we discussed I wonder where Tassie Trekkers are? Well blow me down if we were driving in and they were walking towards us! Not much room left in the area but we squished in cosy like next to our mates and had a fun night. In fact the wind picked up overnight making this not a great camp 45km/hr winds in this fine sand was a bit icky so we packed up and continued on towards Queensland.
Managed to get a few nice sunset shots, but after no sleep with the caravan rocking in all that wind there were no Sunrise pics to be had.
Thanks to the CO for a super quick response, so logging with permission.

Heading south after a month in Darwin we were pleased to see a new cache published in a location not visited before.
With caravan in tow we made this our overnight stop.
Enjoyed learning about "The Pebbles" and how they were formed. Thanks for creating this Earthcache - we enjoyed our visit here and catching up with FelixII who parked beside us.
Logging with permission - thanks for your prompt response.

We spent the night camping not far from The Nobel Nob gold mine and then started our way north again this morning picking up caches along the way.
We are by no means geologists but we really enjoy doing earth caches as each one teaches us something about this fantastic world we live in and this one was no exception.
We were happy that this was an earth cache as there were nearly as many caravans and people as their were pebbles so instead of having to find a cache we just looked like a couple of old farts that liked patting rocks. We collected our answers and sent them off to the CO and then went for a wander through this fascinating area,.
Many thanks Seemyshell for setting this one up and for permission to log and very happy and surprised that we were the first to submit our answers
We are leaving behind a favourite point.

I stayed here overnight on my trip back from the Red Centre event in Alice Springs. I got in after dark so missed the sunset and slept well enough to miss the sunrise too.
I took advantage of the fireplace provided and made a nice roast dinner to enjoy while winding down from the days travels. While I was pottering around putting things away, I heard something behind me and turning around, found it was a little girl from the site next door sent over to see if I wanted to join them for cards. I got a fright when the light hit her face as I had forgotten it was set on the red bulb so that I wasn't chomping on moths and other assorted proteins while eating dinner. Coupled with the sing song tone of her voice I got a hell of a jump as it looked like her eyes were glowing red, sortof like something you'd see in a horror film promo!!! Rapidly gathered my wits and declined, turning in soon after and sleeping like a log for the rest of the night.
All was well in the morning and the scary kid of the night before just looked normal so I had a quick brekkie and a look at the Pebbles before setting off on the next leg of my journey. Reception was poor/ non existant most of the way up here even at the alleged "hot spots" at the rest stops. I couldn't refresh to see that there was a new earth cache here or anywhere else, but I had an idea there could be so I looked at the info boards and took photos to be sure I could answer whatever questions were asked. TFTC Craig, a nice spot to stop for a leg stop or overnighter.
