Was out in the area of Hermansburg with E Smiley finding some stray caches. Some interesting stories of fracking in the area have to come to light since Ive been there.Cheers
In the Palm of your hand2.0/4.0 Regular Traditional Cache This old cache has been on my radar for ages. Was in Hermannsburg in 2017 for the Red Centre Event - too many caches too little time! Drove around again last year in March with cache blocker hubby, 22 kms 4wd didn't excite him even with long range petrol tank. The place didn't disappoint. No tourists this time, just a tour car who might have dropped some. Drive was too easy for Bug. Some drizzle, lots of Finke River crossings, glad no dramas.Quick easy find. The sandy path is now all grass.Thank you for the cache oky's mates. Now i know whats cycad and what's palm
Decided to come here for the weekend from Alice. That was one 4x4 track! I had to let down the tyre pressures a bit more on the way back. Found the cache after a bit of looking. Thanks fro bringing me here to palm Valley!

We did an overnight backpack beyond the main tourist trails (with a permit). Amazing country out there, and wonderful to walk back through such diverse vegetation and habitats.

An easy find while we did the beautiful walk along the valley. The palms are beautiful and there are a few water pools along the way. TFTC
Lovely walk. Found cache easily. Log a bit water logged. Plenty of 8-legged cache guardians TFTC
We have been travelling around this great country, calling into see many different places,
now is a quick chance on the computer to catch up with logs and to put some smileys on the map for where we have been.
Thanks to all the COs for some great finds.

Wow wow Wow!!
Real 4X4, the tracks in were absolutely fun, much better than the ones in the Flinders Ranges
This scenery out here is stunning, beautiful palms, awesome gorgeous gorges, such stunning cliff faces, rocky outcrops, and it’s rather quiet way out here away from all the busy tourist hotspots
This is the reason we love geocaching, it’s all about the journey and the awesome destinations we get to see
There was even fish in the pools up the top - so surprisingly unbelievable!!
Thanks heaps for sharing this awesome geological location
A favourite point from us, as this is totally worth the effort for a day trip or even an overnight camp.

Camped at Palm Valley, we undertook the very rough drive into the Valley over rocks and gullies. I am a sooky 4WD passenger, but there were caches to be found. The valley is beautiful, with its gorgeous palms and amazing rock formations. Well worth the drive. We did the longer of the two walks and found this cache along the way. Then there was the drive back to camp!
Had to be super sleuth as we had some muggles lurking around, but a quick find with PSGV1. Stunning views! TNLNSL TFTC
What a track in! Glad I jumped in with someone else at the halfway point... The Subaru Outback was not made for the second half!

Love the Palm Valley. Easy find. Hard to access if you don’t have a good high clearance 4wd. TFTC.
Alas the driving got too much and time got too late for us to reach this amazing location this time.

A nice easy find in a unique location. An easy walk and fun drive in. Peaceful night at the campground.
Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.
Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.
Thanks okysmates (F=91 H=6) for the cache.

We are travelling from Adelaide on a 4wd trip to Alice Springs. We have enjoyed the 4wd tracks in the NT. It was very busy here today but the cache was found. We did the shorter loop walk, this is an amazing place.
Waiting for some Geocacher’s to join us, Micaparamedic and myself decided to fill in time caching. We firstly targeted some puzzles, and after some traditionals. When we met up with Team_Crumble we explored Palm Valley, and then headed to boggy waterhole to camp for the night. Thanks for placing the cache oky's mates, we enjoyed the walk.
We spent a few days in Alice Springs an the Macdonell Nationalpark and go south to Coober Pedy. When we walked around, we look for same Geocaches. This is a Cache that we found on These days. Thank you very much for the Cache !

Traveling australia. Staying at Alice Springs. Out exploring the area and thought we would do some caches. Thanks for the cache
We are heading off on an outback adventure with Mrs Just a Trifle looking forward to visiting Goodward Station in Boulia, which was once owned by her grandfather, and Mr Just a Trifle hoping to climb Ayers Rock before it is permanently closed to climbing
As usual, with responsibilities caring for grand children and elderly parents, we still can not take the time we would really like to explore this great land of ours so yet again it is mostly an express trip through some terrific locations.
We had no difficulty in locating the cache and with our name added to the log book, we continued on our way.
Thank you okysmates for placing the cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy

This was my 28th find for a total of 40 for this weekend trip.
I had a great time caching with kennyk4165 and M4ISU. We had several FTFs most likely due to the rain but I am sure a lot had to due with the crew we had. We had a great time in the rain mud and puddles. We managed to find most of the ones we hunted and logged only a few DNFs. Most of these caches were very well thought out and the coords were pretty good. Thank you to all who helped make this weekend a special time! We signed the logs with the team name of OBC for the unjustly accused leavers of an Orange Beer Can with the EO.
Thanx for placing this cache for us to find !

Flew up to Alice Springs for a conference, then met up with e.gregory1 for an epic road trip through the West MacDonnell Ranges, Mereenie Loop Rd, Kings Canyon, Luritja Rd, Ernest Giles Rd, Finke Gorge NP, Hermannsberg, Larapinta Drive, back to the Alice then down the Stuart Hwy to Adelaide, with awesome sights and great caches along the way. Replaced the container as per e.gregory1's post. Thanks for the cache oky's mates!
After spending four days travelling up on my own from Adelaide, I met up with FeatherWaite in Alice Springs for a few days of travelling around and caching.
We visited various places in the West Macdonnells, including Hugh Gorge, then went out to Kings Canyon, up the Finke Gorge track to Hermannsburg, into Palm Valley, then back to Adelaide, taking a week in all. We saw, and camped in some fantastic places, although the late September weather was a little warm!
This was a return visit to this area for me, and a chance to avenge a previous DNF on this cache from 5 years ago. We wandered up the track in the late afternoon and made a quick find. I wondered how I had missed it previously. Then it was back to the campground for the night.
Thanks oky's mates for the cache.

After doing the West MacDonnell Ranges on this part of my great trip up the middle with a couple of muggle friends it was time to start heading south.
Just picking up random caches while I can without upsetting them to much.
Stayed at Palm Valley for a couple of nights. Drove the cruiser over the fun track in and did the long loop track around the valley.
The palms looked fantastic along the Valley.
Thanks oky’s mates TFTC.

While doing the walk today we chose a slight detour to find this cache.
There were a steady stream of others also doing the walk but we had plenty of time in between to nab the cache. The rock cliffs here are very impressive.
Loved the area and we enjoyed our walk.

WHOOPS! I'm logging about 100-200 or so caches like 3 months after the trip that we found them on! Completely forgot to log these but I did not forget the trip! Found this cache along with many others on an adventure around the red centre. Along this adventure we visited and explored many phenomenal and surreal places such as Woomera, Coober Pedy, Uluru and Mutitjulu, Kata Tjuta, Wattarka, Tnorala, Both East and West Macdonnell ranges, Arltunga, Ruby Gap, Palm Valley, Parts of the Finke road, Boggy Hole, Rainbow Valley, Old Ghan Route, Chambers Pillar, Oodnadatta track, Mount Dare, Dalhousie Springs, Painted Desert, Moon plane and I'm sure I've missed a few! Thank you so much for the cache. Found with Ferociousflea and -Beaker- along with our mint 79 series that accomplished alot in this two week time frame.

This is the best sort of caching, being brought to fabulous locations. A favourite from us. Tftc
This place has been high on ours and DazzPetes list for a number of years so we weren't going to miss it on this trip, the walk through here is amazing to say the least. We all nearly walked past this cache as we were busy looking around, but it was pointed out and the climbing up and over the rocks started until the cry of "found it" finally went up from papillon4506 and we all scribbled our names in the log.
Thanks for the cache in a cool spot.

Such a stunning location. So glad that we got the chance to visit this area and camp here. A cache here was an added bonus. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
Can't believe how lucky we are. Through a couple of friends, we were able to join with dazzpete and skullracing to venture into this awesome location. Thanks so much for the cache and bringing us here.
As we start our journey home from Alice Springs with Geo/rge after attending the Red Centre Experience.
We are enjoying the sites and sounds that all the caches are taking us to.
After staying the night at the nearby camp ground, we ventured deeper into Palm Valley.
A quick find was made and the log signed.

Wow, skullracing and ourselves have wanted to come her for a number of years and the drive in certainly didn't disappoint. We arrived to find quite a few 4WDs parked at the start of the walk but everyone had already headed off.
The cache was located and retrieved quickly only to have a truck load of tourists arrive and congegate at GZ causing us to have to wait before being able to replace.

The road in from the clearing at the base of the cliff was a bit rougher, but the track to this cache was easy and very pleasant. The coordinates were pretty good considering the location and the find was made pretty quickly.
At this point however we decided that we had a long way to go to get back to the main road, reinflate the tyres, and get to Alice before darkness. We also checked in with some friends in the camp ground on the way.

A day trip out here from Alice today.
Happy to get out of the car and go for a walk, still some small pools of water around but nothing to swim in today.
Looked for this on the way out, but did not find, walking back after lunch I gave it another try and came up with the cache after a while in the hot sun.
The walley is great, what a hidden gem!
Thanks for your cache

Mr and Mrs Parrot are on a quest to attend the Alice Springs Event the Red Centre Experience.
This is one of the many caches we passed in our journey to Central Australia and back.
It is great to be on the road and we are loving looking for your caches.
After camping overnight next to some bogans we got to go looking for this one in the morning.
Why is it some people have to pull into a cacmp siite after everyone is settled and then believe since no one other person in the camp area has a radio on that we obviously must want to listen to their duff duff music at full volume.
We were going to stay another night but thier plan worked as it certainly cleared us out of the campsite.
Went exploring before leaving and loved the drive from the campsite to here.
What a great walk I loved it so much..
There was no way i was leafing this one alone and when it got suspicious for cacher I came up a winner.

We were a bit concerned that with a recent DNF this cache might be difficult to find. However, after getting close to GZ, standing back and simply looking we noticed a suspicious looking area and this proved to be the cache hide. It was actually in the first place checked. After the duties were all done , everything was put back as found. Thank you to oky's mates for placing this cache in a very special place.
We came to Palm Valley by 4x4 bus from Alice Springs today, and enjoyed a picnic lunch and loop walk. Thanks for placing a cache in this spectacular place.

We spent quite some time here at around 3:45:27 PM, but we just couldn't locate your cache, so a DNF from us - - - not stating it's not there... just that we couldn't spot it.

Cache check performed on the 8/8/2014 (sorry we hadn't logged this earlier but we have been largely out of internet range for the past two months). Cache in good condition and exactly where we left it. We are not sure why this cache was disabled when it has been found numerous times in the last year. It is not far off the path and a fairly easy find if you are in the right spot. Plenty of other cachers have found it. Spoiler alert** For those needing that extra bit of help to find this cache we have uploaded some more photos from our cache check, the last showing the cache being placed back in it's spot. Please enjoy finding this cache and take time to enjoy this beautiful area (even if you can't find the cache).

DNF at 3pm. We came here last year on 8th September and did not find it either. We were quite annoyed it was so difficult after all the effort of getting there so didn't bother to log it though we should have. It is such a difficult road out here, the place is beautiful and it seems so unnecessary to hide the cache way up in the bush and off the track where we're not supposed to go when there are plenty of spots far more accessable. We think this one should be archived to save everyone the disappointment. The owners don't appear to be actively caching anymore.

Found while out on a touring trip with the Vic Scout 4x4 Service Unit. I didn't think i would have much luck with this one as there had been a lot of DNF's for it. But sitting not far off the track in clear view was the cache. A very easy find. And yes is was off the path a little. But nothing compared to some of the other caches we have found during the trip. A few meters on the rocks through grass and found within the boulders.
An easy drive in and enjoyed the last 4km from the campground in the truck , taking lots of photos on the way.
The walk was most pleasant this afternoon and the cache an easy find (don't know why others have trouble finding it) [^]. An iconic and wonderful place in the middle of nowhere! TNLNSL.
Enjoyed the night at the campground where we even had warm showers , before heading over to the Kalarranga Lookout on our way out next morning.

I have to admit that I was looking forward to the ‘challenging 4WD track’ but ended up bitterly dissapointed that they had graded the thing to within an inch of its life . You could have driven a bloody Commodore there as long as you had someone to help through the few small patches of thick sand.
The bit from the campsite to the valley was very definitely high-clearance 4WD stuff though, and that made up for it a bit [^].
The cache was found after a very pleasant walk. This certainly is a beautiful place. Thanks for bringing us here .

Enjoyed a lovely night camped in Palm Valley and enjoyed the drive and walk in the early evening. Unfortunately the cache eluded me though!
In addition to my log, I would like to suggest a few options.
Seeing that a path was constructed to minimise the impact on the environment, possibly the cache should be be moved to a more suitable location or turned into an Earth Cache. It would be more appropriate.
If it remains as a traditional in the same location, the owner should consider providing clues enabling cachers to locate it more easily, at this stage it looks like many people are failing (for a range of reasons) to find it. And it' s suposed to be a Level 2 difficulty, hence something isn't right.

At the end of the great walk through the valley it was time to locate the cache. Unfortunately after a long search nothing was found. High. low, bushes, rocks etc - no cache. We had a few problems there. GZ was jumping by about 5-7 metres and accuracy sometimes being 16 metres it made it really hard to pinpoint the location. as 3 metres made the difference between being in a relatively easy terrain and being 20m up on vertical rocks.
While terrain rating is 4 stars, it may mean that we need to Spider Man ourselves up the rocks, but I hope it's not the case. I think it represents the difficulty of getting to the location, not getting to GZ.
After an hour of searching it was time to give up.
