#4272 With an offer from minniek to join her to take on the Gold series how could I resist. Although I had already found some during visits to Burrinjuck, it was just a nice day to get out of town for a while. On our way home MK was kind enough to stop by here to allow me to find a trad for the day. Checked a few spots matching the hint before returning to the first one and spotting the hide. Note to self: Look harder next time. Thanks Pacmania for this series. Its been a while since I found one of them.

02-Jan-23
An early 5.45am start for an 8.00am rendezvous at the Burrinjuck Dam boat ramp for a day's caching in and around Burrinjuck. Arrived right on time, a little trouble making way through the boomgate, but all good in the end. Unpacked our yaks, a most convenient parking spot right at the water's edge. Interesting to see how SA and SC's portables would go, damfangled origami. Most presently surprised in the end how well they actually performed.

Paddling in perfect conditions across to Cave Island, the hardest thing was making land. 'Caveisland Cache' (GCA2QAD) quickly found and signed, and after a little exploration we continued onwards across the way to our next destination.

A number of motor boars/skiers zooming about now, but super impressed with their behaviour and willingness to give us a wiiiiiiiiide birth.

Made good time, the sun warming up the day, and the pleasant conversation continuing. Before we knew it we reached the dam edge and were climbing up the short rocky slope. Quickly found the right area and 'The Magazine' (GCA2MJN), the log also promptly signed and replaced. Investigated within the man made cave, almost dying of indigestion. Damn delicious peanut butter sandwich, ate it way too quickly.

Back into the yaks and the 2.5km or so paddle back to our starting point. Took about 2 hours return for the journey, a fantastic trip with good friends. Once back we packed up our gear and made plans to continue on to the remainder of caches in the area. Paid our entry fees for the day ($15.00) off we went.

Skirted the dam edge, picking up caches here and there. None presented any issues, the scenery colourful with blooming trees, bushes and algae. One cache was discovered on private land, a quick, pleasant chat with the land owner had us remove the cache at their request. Once we had reached the dam gates, unfortunately you could go no further, a real shame as the views would have been awesome.

Goodbyes were now offered as the return trip was to be taken individually, a good number of challenge caches no doubt the task ahead (it was for me), mixed in with a few others types inbetween. Continued back to the highway, a quick detour on the way. A disappointment at 'Challenge Cache Series - Elevation' (GC8ZQDE), not for the first time, my TOTT just not high enough. Hopefully one day third time lucky.

One or two more on an extremely busy end of holiday highway before Yass, the final cache 'AHH #9' (GC9Z94N) interrupted with a quick sighting of a healthy back snake just inside the long grass edge. It bolted off somewhere and I moved on another 25 metres or so, before then continuing into the long grass. No more reptile interactions were had, and the cache was eventually found 16 metres out.

Back home around 5.30pm, unloaded the gear and had a well deserved icy cold beer!

A fantastic day overall, most enjoyed my first time to Burrinjuck. Thanks of course to mountainsbeyond, StarsAlign and SocialCacher for making the day the day it was.

Due to the recent rain I imagine, the grass was nearly head high( I'm 5ft. Or 153cm).
So we walked up further took the gate and tacked from the other side. Cache found in no time, waterproof log, dried out, stamped and returned. All in a days drive from Wagga to Sydney. Such beautiful country. TFTC

19-Feb-22
After having a walk and coffee with my Walking Group, I pondered on how to spend the rest of this beautiful sunny day. I love driving in the country so decided that was the way to go. I knew geofriends had recently found caches around Jugiong so I researched that area. Even though we often travel that way it is usually with the van in tow which understandably discourages Pa from caching along the way. Why not I thought? So after loading up Monty, my GPSr, I headed off.

Having found and signed as many caches as possible down the Old Hume Highway and in Jugiong it was time to return north to home. This is the first of 2 caches that I found on my return journey. Luckily there was a geotrail that led me straight to the cache which I signed and returned. TFTC Pacmania.

14-Feb-22
My final cache of the day! After picking up some new Sui caches a bit further down the highway, and also helping place a couple, it was time to head back to Yass and then Canberra. This cache has been taunting me for several years now and I decided it was about time I stopped for it!

Struggled to find it at first, checked the exact location very first but it was being covered by a tuff of grass. So then I unnecessarily made it a lot harder than it should of been and checked other spots nearby.

Eventually returned to the first location and kicked the grass a bit and there it was! Doh!

We were on our way to Tahmoor to visit some friends for the weekend. We allowed some extra time for a couple of caches along the way. It was freezing getting out of the car, but it had to be done - for the sake of Geocaching Big Grin.

I managed to find a route that wasn't too overgrown to get to gz. Cache was quickly found and in good condition. Thanks for placing one here and sharing the historical story.

Ok... one more sneaky one on the way home lol

GLISS! was itching to grab some earth caches, I needed an oldie for my Jasmer and we were both in the mood of a country drive, so headed out to clean up this trail a little. Such a lovely (and highly successful) adventure! Thanks for the cache.

I was on a mission today with Nibletricecakes to collect 2 earthcaches (doubling my total number of earthcaches this year) and pick up an oldie. I do love a rail trail. Thanks for the very interesting research. This as a quick find and the last one for the day. TFTC Pacmania.

Another odd thing - how does water get into those bison tubes?

**Cache Condition:** Good.

**The Cache**
I was supposed to have this cache found yesterday but we left late, so now I have to target it today. The grass is long here and had me on high alert for wrigglers. Took some time to find but fortunately not too long. Nice outlook over the field. We signed the log in either our names or our initials in some switcheroo form of LP, DJJ, ToC and then returned cache to its hide'y hole exactly as found. Taking this little road up to the next cache hide.

**The Day**
OCW *Little Panther* and *DustyJapserJet*. Cruised down to Binalong to undertake some cache maintenance between here and Wyangala, plus a short few days camping. Want to stay longer but we have a three day Scout hike commitment. On our way to Yass for food and to complete some caches down the freeway that I was intending to target yesterday.

Now that I had finished the Threatened Species Trail I now knew what I needed to get my target for the day (or so I thought). First goal was 100 and if I could 120 was the next (for Project-GC award). I had accommodation booked in Yass but in the end I went to Binalong and Galong to get a good start before heading into town just on dark.

This was the first one where I ducked off the freeway. Another where I waded through the long grass but the cache was quickly found. Log was damp but OK to sign

Big Grin 02/02/2020 Souvenir Day Trip! Big Grin
Umm… what area can I attack this time because I’m very quickly running out of caches to find. After taking a look at the map, I decided on finding the caches between Gundagai and Yass along the Hume HWY. Yes, HWY driving can be quite boring but when the trip is broken up to find caches it makes it a lot more FUN. Big Grin I also needed five finds for the GCA 2020 February challenge. A few history lessons, unique locations and many different types of hides made the day very enjoyable. The GCA moveable caches I found today have been moved to the above coordinates ready for the next finder. I ended up with 16 finds for the day which is made up of 10 GC and 6 GCA finds. Big Grin TB visit on all caches. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring joy to me and the rest of the caching community. Big Grin TFTC’s Big Grin

We teamed up with Rapidlywild and headed down from Canberra for another Geocaching Victoria Mega. We arrived at our accommodation in Bendigo on Friday afternoon / evening and checked out a few caches in the area before retiring for the evening. On Saturday morning, we had a pleasant drive across to St Arnaud, arriving at the event as the opening ceremony was wrapping up, and the lab caches were released, so we joined the frenzy with the masses solving the cleverly constructed lab caches.

Monday, day three of our mega weekend and after checking out of our accommodation we cached around Bendigo picking a few solved puzzles, an EC, virtual and some challenge caches and random ones alone the way while heading on our long trek home. One of the team had to work the next day so didn’t want a late one.

This was the last one for our mega weekend. Quick find in the dark and back on the road again.

TFTC Pacmania and thanks for the fun weekend adventure Rapidlywild

18-Nov-19
It's that time of the year again, Victorian Mega time, so its off to St Arnaud for myself and the ladies of FurfacesLL. A long road trip ahead, heading off Friday morning and getting home late Monday night and a fun filled weekend. We found many caches of all kinds of variety.. Trads, Multis, Puzzles, EC's, Virtuals, Letterboxes, Wherigos, Events, Cito's and of course, the Mega itself. We enjoyed the weekend and there sure are some unique caches here in St Arnaud, we still have plenty left to collect, so may need to coordinate another trip this way some time.

Home day today, but we had to get some caches before hand of course Big Grin After checking out of our accommodation, we picked up a few caches in Bendigo, some challenge caches north of Bendigo, a some random caches along the way home. We had to restrict our caching otherwise we would have never made it back to Canberra.

Last cache for this adventure, it was well and truely dark by now and we were all looking forward to getting home. No issues locating the cache surprisingly since we were all tired.

Thanks for the hide Pacmania Big Grin And thanks to the FFLL ladies for another amazing trip away Big Grin

With an hour or so to spare this afternoon, I decided to come out and pick up the last two caches in this series (I ran out of daylight while doing the others in the series, having started at the Burrinjuck end).
Like the rest of the series, this was a nice easy find, located on a quiet back road. Rather than get straight back onto the highway, I followed the back road through some nice countryside for a couple of km before rejoining the hectic throng of trucks and caravans.

I'd seen these caches come out, but was in no position to collect them at the time. So I decided to leave them for a rainy day! Today was the day! Not only was it rainy, but also, this series of caches down to Burrinjuck contained fingerprints, footprints and shadows I required for my Mystery at the Museum: Evidence collected souvenir! There weren't any caches in Canberra I could readily get, so I came on a mini roadtrip today. I managed to score the souvenir and also a couple of gems thrown in! Also the history highlighted by this series of caches was very interesting! Thanks for the cache Pacmania!
