Im running away to Robe for a winter getaway and some caching Many, many years ago I used to go surf fishing near here and it always got me how there is this long stretch of sandy beaches and then, out of nowhere, there is a couple of huge granite rocks that just pop up out of the sand. Today I got to learn how these huge rocks got here. Geocaching is more than a game, its a learning tool.Answers sent to COTFTC fredd0Keep smiling
Travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying in Kingston SE for a couple of days, checking out the sights and the caches, of course. Fascinating location. The answers have been submitted. TFTC. LNCU
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. Staying in Kingston for a few days to grab some finds. Blustery day and had to duck out of the car between showers to gather the information. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for the EC. LNCU
Next day of our roadtrip. Today we're driving about 350km from Meningie to Mount Gambier. The first stretch is quite long and lonely along Coorong NP. Then we pass Kingston, Robe, Millicent and arrive finally at Mount Gambier. Great views everywhere and of course we pick up a few caches along the way. After a long stretch of mostly straight road we're happy to stop here for a geology lesson. Interesting variant of granite! Answers sent. Thanks and kind regards from Switzerland, Hinni&Simo
#19316 - 1:06:00 PM; Day five of "The Great Leap Forward" road trip and it is time to head for home after a successful mission to South Australia. The day started with an event, where I delivered feathertop, who had accompanied me from Kaniva a couple of days ago, into the custody of GemmaSistema for the trip home. After the event, I headed north into Salisbury and on to Tea Tree Gully collecting a couple of caches in each as I passed through, then I set sail for Tailem Bend and on to KingstonSE, Robe, Millicent and Mt Gambier collecting some more caches, including this one. I then crossed into Victoria collecting caches in Dartmoor, Heywood and Tyrendarra before heading on to Port Fairy for tea and Warnambool to spend the night. All up I added eight more LGAs to the collection today! This was a nice stop to stretch the legs while gathering the required information, with answers sent off to the CO to get the OK. Apologies for the largely generic logs TFTC fredd0
Find number 12999 at 7:50:11pm on Tuesday the 27 February 2024Well, I'm on my way, Adelaide here we come. I have seven days to get there and I'm travelling via the wiggly geocaching road so I hope I've allowed enouth time Yesterday I travelled across to the Wellington South Australia via Branxholme, Portland, Nelson, Mount Gambier, Kingston SE, Meningie and Tailem Bend. Well after a whirl wind tour of Tasmania to help with 3 challenges that Im working on, I got back in last night packed the car and headed off to SA this morning to attend the Leap Year Mega and to also tick off some LGAs along the way as well.Well after crossing the border yesterday and staying at Millicent last night its now time for more LGAs and head to Wellington for my next stop. Its LGA time as I make my way up north. Finally following the coast for a while and came across some big rocks.A great view with large tacks one way and the ocean the other.Answers have been sent to the CO.Thanks fredd0 TFTEC.
Sent answers these are pretty cool rocks and loved looking at the ones in ocean too... Thanks for cache
Great geology lesson. Will send answers when I have better signal. Optus of course.
Arrived on the change of the tide. I really wanted to get up on top for my photo but didn't want to scare away the birds resting on the rocks. Attended both locations and took loads of photos. Answers to the CO. Thanks for bringing me to this location. Well worth the visit if you are coming past.
On the 14th of September, 2019, a youthful but slightly bored Otter googled geocaching. With 30 minutes he found his first cache, and the rest is history. As I commence my fifth loop of the calendar, Ive piled everything in the car and have no set agenda except to be back by the 20th. Should be fun.I think Im always a bit rushed when I come through here and Ive assumed that this Earthcache is off to the side on an unsealed road. No so, its super convenient (southbound), and if you do want to go to the suggested waypoint to see the other granite, its a sealed road all the way. The rock has been studied and answers have been sent. Thanks for this Earthcache Geoventure2020/GeocachingSA.
I have passed this spot everytime from an early age to an adult and hadn't taken much notice of the rocks, as a child I was always too excited to visit my grand parents in Kingston and as an adult, I saw them but only as marker that it wasn't too long before I would reach Kingston on my way home from Adelaide etc. Thanks for making me take time to be aware of the natural wonders in our environment. TFTEC Answers sent.
We like earth caches as they are often features that we would otherwise drive past. This one we did drive past as we expected something more obvious. A quick U turn and we were back where we needed to be. We had quite some discussion about these answers as we didn't agree. Thanks for showing us what we otherwise would have missed.
Sorry, we are still catching up on our logging. The answers have now been sent. This one we didn't agree on so it will be interesting to see who was correct. Thanks for the cache.
My apologies for the delay, but I went with Everlasting there and received permission from CO to accept the answer.

We stopped here once before and jotted notes... which we lost! So we jotted again and sent some answers to CO this time
Nice rocks. But we resisted licking them
Our appreciation for the earthcache placement fredd0 ,
--------------------------------------
Do please take care out there,
it's a dangerous world filled with rusty old mint tins and objects falling from trees
...... but a cache a day still keeps the boredom away
--------
Most of our caches are logged using the resources of gsak, garmin, and androids.
No apples or other fruit needed An apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away, we've tried that
----------
Make sure that Travel Bugs are the Only bugs you share and pass on (Covid cancels caching!)
Keep a safe distance - clean and cache the countryside
It's awesome of all those placing quality caches out and about around our country areas,
in sensible safe places and containers especially! - it keeps our game fun, and interesting
Of course we do appreciate if you actually did read all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, or so we've been told! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where it is I could do it and go back to normal logs again ! If you find the challenge let me know and perhaps we can put an end to these long logs !!!
[:o)]
The end. For now...
... until next time!
PS: Mega GCA1DNA 29.2.24 - be there!

On our drive from Murray Bridge to Mount Gambier, we made a few stops along the way. Most of these stops were to look at something interesting, historic, geological and also to stretch our legs.
This was one such stop. Driver changeover and an earth cache as a bonus.
The granite here was a little unexpected.
We took some photos, read the questions and have sent our answers to the CO.

Found with Chrisval7 who submitted the answers. Great cache with good learning experience. Thank you.
We were staying nearby at Kingston and detoured back to look more closely at this earthcache. What a bonus…an easy to access cache (you could almost do it from your car seat!); an interesting cache; and we definitely learnt something new. I always thought mica came in one form, a silvery sheet.
We thoroughly enjoyed this earthcache, so thank you for your effort in putting it here, Geoventure/Freddo

Parked by the side of the road and dashed across to make the observations. Some interesting structures here. We also went to the granites on the beach however as the tide was very high it was difficult to see them all, however they were quite impressive.

Apologies for the generic log.
Uni and Medusa, Southern Cross Caching, and I ... shonkylogic spent the October Long Weekend in 2021 attending the Easter 2020 Mega Event at Millicent.
Along the way we stopped to find as many caches as we could - because we somehow convinced our better halves not to accompany us. Or perhaps it was because they really don't like caching as much as us.
We came well equipeed in the Pahero, with not one, not two but THREE TOTTs to help us. Even that wasn't sufficient for all the hides, sometimes you just don't have the right tool for the job.
We enjoyed meeting up with old friends, in these days of Covid is really is very special to be able to hold an event like this.
Thanks fredd0 for placing and maintaining the cache

Found at 14:42 during a fantastic extended weekend away with Shonkylogic and Southern Cross Caching. We had grand plans to complete swathes of powertrails and solved puzzles, but the weather slowed us down a bit. Even so, it was a lot of fun, and we passed my goal - to get my 9000th find
Friday, day 1, had us driving and caching from morning in Adelaide until the 6pm event in Millicent.
Day 2 focussed on the fishing series, wine bottle, and numerous other caches in that vicinity.
Day 3 was our slowest, due to the worse weather, but still a lot of fun.
Day four, after doing SFE series and nearby caches, plus those we passed, I arrived home at about 8pm, after finding my 9000th cache along the way.
Great to catch up with many of the usual faces, some others we hadn't seen for a long time, and a few new faces too.
Thanks for the hides

As we traveled to Kingston we stopped off to examine both Granite formations, land and sea. We got to see the land version very closely as the sun was making its way down and we took many photos comparing our hand size with the grains. Once we had made our observations we headed to The Granites only to have a very sea misty view. Still magnificent however, looking like whales swimming in the ocean.
Thanks GeoAdventure2020 for the earthcache lesson, one we will remember.

So we did it, we took the plunge and early last year made arrangements to sell our little hobby farm in South Gippsland and ‘do a big lap’.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first.
So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.
We recently spent 7 magnificent weeks in beautiful Tasmania, then we just did a quick trip down the west coast of boring old Victoria, making our way to South Australia, crossing the border before Covid strikes again.
Looking forward to slowing things down as we spend time in SA with no return date planned.
Thanks for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to do on the way.
This one was most enjoyable.
This weekend, I headed to the limestone coast / south-east for cave diving. On Friday night, I drove via the Coorong rode via Kingston, Beachport, and Millicent to Glencoe. Saturday was spent cave diving near Tantanoola and Engelbrecht Cave in Mount Gambier, and then Sunday after a cave dive, I returned to Adelaide via Mount Gambier, and the wine bottle/glass geoart in Kalangadoo. I was expecting a nice weekend of sunny weather, but instead, there was wind and rain for the most part.
Today, I travelled from Adelaide to Glencoe, and made stops in Meningie, along the Coorong, Kingston, Beachport, and Rendelsham. A really nice sunny evening, and subsequently arrived very late at my destination.
For some reason, I had always thought that these *Granites* geocaches required 4WD in the Coorong. Perhaps it was the brown tourist sign pointing off the main road, but I realised that I could have visited these along the way today. Subsequently, I stopped off at this location to admire the interesting granite geology whilst studying the rock and answering the questions. I'm starting to become quite the granite expert these days! Thanks Freddo/fredd0 and the GeoVenture2020 committee for the EarthCache preparation and placement.

The great Southeast Saunter with Anymules down to the Millicent area to find caches associated with the postponed GV2020 mega. But with leave organized and accommodation booked the caching trip was not postponed! [^]
Day 1: Today was all about getting there. We actually got to just 75 kms short of Millicent before daylight left us and we gave up and made our way to our digs.
We stopped and admired the great boulders in the paddock. Pity we couldn't get over to them so we settled for where we were beside the road and began examining the outcrop and postulating our answers.[^] At no time was I tempted to lick the rocks! Then Anymules sent them straight off to the CO and I am logging in anticipation that we were somewhere around the mark.
***Thanks fredd0 for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Found on the final day of a caching trip with FeatherWaite from Adelaide to south-western Victoria/south-eastern South Australia, and the final day of the year!
After rolling the swags out overnight near Mount Gambier, we made our way to Millicent then back home via the Coorong, picking up some caches we had targeted, together with a few opportunistic finds along the way.
Fortunately the hot and windy weather had eased off and we enjoyed a cooler day in the low to mid-twenties - perfect for caching!
In all it was a good day, with finds on a nice selection of traditional, unknown, letterbox, multi and earthcaches.
Interesting to end my caching year with a visit to another assemblage of quartz, feldspar and mica, with yet another twist to the granite story.
Thanks Freddo for another interesting earthcache.

Travelling toward the St Arnaud event and finding some geocaches along the way. Answers sent to CO. TFT earthcache.
Surprisingly I had a glimpse of Kangaroo Island here. A nice drive by earth cache. TFTC
Stopped to find this new earth cache,
Today I headed from Mt gambier back home to Adelaide, with hosting 2 events along the way it made for a good reason to cache along the way.

Love the rocks in the ocean around the corner. Always good subject for the camera

Found while on our way to Mt Gambier for the long weekend. I have visited the granites several times, only a few for geocaching.
Logging with permission.
Thanks

Thanks
I visited The Granites on my way to Beachport for my Mum's 80th birthday...
The wind was blowing a gale & the rain had been pelting down...
I managed to push my way out of the car & inspect the minerals...
I have submitted my answers...
Nice rock formations which I have looked at on many occasions...
This time there was a reason to stop...
Thanks GV2020

After doing a partial loop of the South East to chase some caches we came across this one. We sent off the answers three and a half hours before logging, so we figured it was ok to log now.
The rocks in the paddock are a bit of a landmark for us, we know we are on the home stretch when we see the sleeping elephant, well it looks like it from the right angle anyway. Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache and the geology information.
