Absolutely loved walking down to get this cache. Nobody on the beach on a stunning day. No wind either. Checked the wrong spot which wasnt quite GZ (but only visible hint) before trying another spot & finding the right hint. [TFTC]
# 2004 Embarked on the first family overnight tramp to Tunnel Point campsite. A nice intro to this type of activity and the caches gave a good distraction although half of thise attempted were no longer present. Thanks for this one though sp8sm8.
Decided to try a short family tramp this weekend with VentureTIM, DangerSAM and Gr33nslime to the nearby Tunnel Campsite. Despite the weather looking to rain we actually had great weather for the short walk in. With beaming sunshine overhead, this cache was a welcome distraction/stop for little legs as we neared our objective. Having had no luck with the elusive Little Blue cache further up the beach, this one was very straight forward to locate. While the hide location seems to be struggling to live, the cache itself was exactly where it should have been and was bone dry inside. Greatly appreciated given the fruitless searching a little bit before. With the cache located it was time for DangerSAM and VentureTim to dig through the contents and make a swap. With that all done it was time for everyone to sign the log and we were on our way for another short stroll to our campsite. TFTC, nicely placed and all in good order. No maintenance required.
Saw a cachers trail & headed to the Cabbage Tree....nope wrong one.....headed across the track, found & signed in. TFTC.
A nice walk across the beach. Started off at the wrong cabbage tree before making our way to the right one and making a quick find. Lost our pen around here but luckily we had a spare one with us today.
Headed along the beach to get some caches that have been here for a while - shows how long since our last visit. TFTC
That's as far as we went today, quick find before turning back, the boys were getting a bit cold with the wind. Nice beach, TFTC
Tramping out west with Vistra on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Heading back to the car having done around 12kms and picked this one up on the way. No muggles to be seen for a couple of hours and then just as we are looking for this one, 2 muggles whiz past on bikes! TFTC
Note: I did try to log this cache using the app and the 'draft' function as I had no signal. However, when I posted the log once my signal had been restored, I couldn't find the log I had made. There must a be a glitch in the matrix! Apologies if my log eventually appears twice.

I headed out to Karekare with AliGle today and after visiting the Falls, we took a walk down Karekare beach to Pararaha Swamp, then back again. I miss being able to walk in the hills around here, but it was still a great walk along the beach. Walked back along the old tramline and just as we were about to find the cache, 2 muggles went past on their bikes - the first people we'd seen for a couple of hours! TFTC!
Having never been to Karekare before I decided to go on a day trip to this famous beach with the kids and grab some caches along the way. This is a lovely part of the beach but it's a shame that gorse has managed to find its way here. The cache was a quick find and in good condition, TFTC!
Took a path less travelled even found some metal spikes that must have belonged to the tramway that used to pass this way.
Meandering my way, its nice to be out of the wind blown sand. But you can not avoid the heat, it is so hot out here. Well I must have been hallucinating, as I walked past the cache, and went to the other obvious one. Checking the arrow it said I was about 10m out, so backtracked and there it was.
Thanks for the hide sp8sm8, no problems here today. This will be my turnaround point, as the track to Mercer Bay is open, so I have a date with some steps

Normally I can't bear to leave the dogs at home when I go walkies, so I've never walked this part. Now the dogs are ageing, I don't feel so bad walking dog free zones while they sleep. What a privilege to visit this stunning piece of the wild rugged west. Thank you for bringing us here!
Conditions were perfect for a walk along the beach, tide was out, it was overcast and a breeze blowing to keep us cool. Cache was found easily and is in great condition
Lazy Sunday in Karekare with PeanutButterBaby. Did not notice waymark and went through gorse .... Well TFTC
Took a lovely walk on Karekare beach and found a few caches. Never saw black sand until today so it was an awesome experience! TFTC
Definitely a lot fewer walks around here than there used to be, but appreciated the chance to stretch the legs out here a little bit.
Fell in behind a couple who were also headed in the direction of the cache but they carried on their way as we passed GZ leaving us to make the find then take a windy walk back to the car. Nice spot, hope we can get some more out here again in time. TFTC

We needed a break from the hectic build-up to Christmas, so took sometime for a walk at Karekare. It was so nice to have the area to ourselves. Initially we couldn't find the trail, but once we did we were soon at gz where we made a quick find thanks to the hint.
Had help from my lovely little sisters on this one (hopefully they’ll catch on and start coming with me for some!)
Enjoyed a sunny morning in Karekare collecting some new geocaches. Enjoyed the walk out to GZ and after finding and logging the geocache. Rewarded myself with some lunch before moving on... TFTC
Was out here getting Little Blue...so it was a real bonus to have a new cache to find as well!
Many thanks sp8sm8.
We certainly need a few more out this way .
Despite the dire weather predictions it was a gorgeous day for a walk !!!
Nette easily found the track and rushed ahead and found the correct hint item....
Good to do a bit more of the Ed Hillary Trail .
Then off to Piha Lilyponds for a maintenance Check....
Great to have the fresh salt air and sunshine and wind in my hair!!!

Last night me and FMZ were out doing a possible ftf hunt somewhere, but not in Auckland. While out, we spotted this cache come, but it was absolutely pouring with rain and it was dark, no way we were going to attempt this then! But as it happened, I was not working today. so we came up with a plan that we'd head out this morning, come rain or come shine, I have no worries about getting well wet for a possible {FTF}, done it many times.
But this morning, after FMZ picked me up, it was drizzly weather, nothing much, very foggy and cloudy on top of the ranges as we passed over but when getting to Karekare it was blue skies, warm and no rain to speak off. Whoo hoo!
So I took the rain jacket just in case, never needed it, took pens and off course the phone for the cache and fotos. Walked out and past the lake, headed inland and in no time we spotted a few cabbages that could be potential caches hides, but the phone soon settled and we hit the right tree on our first attempt. Awesome, I haven't done a walk out this way for over 3 years, loved it! Took plenty of fotos, and gradually made our way back.
Thanks for bringing us out here sp8sm8, a terrific few hours was had.

After an early morning work conference call and not feeling particularly crash hot, I decided it might be better to get some fresh air than sit behind a computer. Picked up Gorby and headed to this cache - a nicce place for a walk indeed. Good decision, as the weather, in between storms I guess, was perfect, as can be seen in the pics. The first track we tried out to the beach was flooded so deep we couldn't get through - I turned around and went a different way when it was threatening my gumboots, and Gorby turned back when it was nearly up to his waist. Anyway, common sense prevailed and we took the normal path to the south end of the beach and then straight down the beach from there. Have hardly ever seen the sea out here so calm as today. Anyway, the track to Tunnel Point and beyond took us almost entirely to the cache, and just a few steps off, and the cache was in hand. Pretty confident we would be first as no sign of any recent visitors around, and yep, blank log so a joint [FTF] for us. A really enjoyable one too - great spot, thanks for getting us out here! FP added for that. TFTC!!!
