Find # 15914Been a while since I've been out solo for a long trip. But things change over time. And I'm living the past.So with some time off work, I've jumped the border wall to chase down some long trails in South Aussie... don't know how many I'll get. But I've got quite a few downloaded. I do have a short hit list ( of 2) caches to help with a challenge. All others are just for the Adventure and countryside views. Armed with all the necessary TOTT from tweezers and magnet grab to 6m ladder and 8m fishing pole. I believe I'm prepared for all that I'll come across. (Just had to leave the Kayak at home )Day 7. Naracoorte to HomeA day to take in the sites of the Naracoorte area before jumping back over the border. To head for home. Grabbing the odd cache along the way. TFTC GeoVenture2020
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA. This is our kind of caching - back country roads. Windy arvo and hardy any traffic. Used two tott to retrieve from ground level. A challenge but got there
Travelling with richlink as part of our Caravan Geocaching Trip. It's moving day today, a big move... Narracoorte to Penol. Touring the area or using geocaching as our guide. Thanks for the hide.
I had the tott I needed on board here.Must have looked a little strange to passing traffic but I got the job done soon enough.Cheers
13:47Passed this one up as our elevating device was not present. Thanks for bringing us here anyway GeocachingSA.
SL at 12:10pm. Daytrip out with bdiaw and MuggleMasterKid9. We were on our way to Mt. Gambier from Edenhope as we attended the Swap Meet up there in the morning. We picked up a few goodies. Decided to do some caches on the way. Bdiaw was perfect for the retrieval of this cache as was his vehicle! *Signed log as FWD and MMK9.*TFTC GeoVenture2020 and the challenge!
TFTC. A windy day and we were expecting visitors sometime in the afternoon. After doing a couple of chores we headed out in the direction of Naracoorte to do a spot of caching. A successful couple of hours finding 3 multis, and earthcache and 13 trads. A good little haul and relaxing after a couple of busy days.
Quick easy find signed the log replaced back then on the way to Bordertown for the night TFTC
Missed this cache last time because I could not reach. This trip I was armed with right took and I got but I got not replace it and there are only so many times you can pretend you are doing stretches while you wait for cars to go by. Where did all these cars come from on a Sunday afternoon! It is now a little lower.

Well that was probably the most fun cache of the day. After trying two TOTTs unsuccessfully, donned the yellow maintenance vest and pulled out the big guns! Thank you, GeocachingSA; cache #4181.
Hahahahaha, Geo hubby's mountain climbing walking stick has once again come in handy Cheers and tftc
Technically. I can see it but at 5ft 2 there is no way I can reach it. Ah well

I needed a break on the drive home from Millicent to Adelaide and this looked like a good spot.
I am 6 foot and I could just get my finger tips to it at full stretch. Returned to the same height as found.

Beaut weather to be out for a drive and grabbing a few caches around Naracoorte. Needed a leg up from MrP, TFTC!
Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find although a locally acquired TOTT was required to retrieved the container. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache.
Planning our next trip to SA we found this missed log
This is our last day in South Australia as our impromptu holiday must come to an end and we are heading to Mount Gambier to do the lab adventures there and picking up any that pop up on the screen.
We have been enjoying these TOTT cache hides so we weren't going to go passed this one. This was a bit easier than some but definitely still needing the TOTT. We were being watched by a muggle the entire time but we are sure that he won't say anything to any body about what we got up to. We added our name to the log book and replaced it back where we found it for the next finder.
We said good bye to our muggle friend who we are pretty sure won't be there for long.
Thanks but once more GeoVentur2020 for the cache.

This weekend, I headed to the limestone coast / south-east for cave diving. On Friday night, I drove via the Coorong rode via Kingston, Beachport, and Millicent to Glencoe. Saturday was spent cave diving near Tantanoola and Engelbrecht Cave in Mount Gambier, and then Sunday after a cave dive, I returned to Adelaide via Mount Gambier, and the wine bottle/glass geoart in Kalangadoo. I was expecting a nice weekend of sunny weather, but instead, there was wind and rain for the most part.
Today, I travelled from Mount Gambier to Adelaide, and made a few geocaching stops along the way. By mid afternoon, I had arrived at Kalangadoo, and mentally prepared myself in completing the wine bottle/glass geoart. I had prepared myself for that duration, but was still hoping that it wouldn't take as long as it did. It was then on to driving home via Naracoorte and Keith.
This cache was quite the high one to reach. I'm glad I managed to stand on my tippy toes in order to access. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks GeoVenture2020 committee for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

The great Southeast Saunter down to the Millicent area was over. Back to my 2020 caching goals. Only one of the three set at the start of the year was now possible and should be complete by Christmas. [^] So pressure off and back to caching when and where the whimsy takes me whilst I ponder some targets for next year.
I had to go to Naracoorte for some work on the car. Yes it is a long way from home but they are family and can do with the business. Hey what do you know I am three quarters of the way back to Millicent where some interesting D/T ratings have been published after we left. [^] May as well go for a "little" detour on the way home. [:o)]
Bugger bugger bugger. If only I was two or three inches taller. But where there's a cache there's a way and I soon had it in hand.
***Thanks GeoVenture2020 for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Coonawarra is an Aboriginal word meaning "Honeysuckle". I had to read that twice - it's not Honeysucker or Chief 2 Dogs.

I attended the lunch meal event in Mt Gambier as my 1st cache for the day and then had tea in Naracoorte
In between I cached[^], and completed an adventure lab in Penola[^], with scramping, TT016, PrincessAria1, LittleG00sE and hevwalker on the trip to Naracoorte and afterwards, I followed crane2 and Labchick back and laughed as they found 'Sign log and replace the cache as exacty as found'
Then I left that pair and found 'If you see Kaye there is a cache!' and another easier cache on my own about 10pm before retiring back to the cabin for sleep[|)][^]
All up 14 were earned, 12 caches were found and 2 cool events were attended[^]
This cache took a bit of clever manouvering to make the find
You'll probably need a TOTT but which one will you use[?]

Today I started out at cockatoo lake after camping there for the evening before making my way to Mt gambier today cleaning up as many caches as I could along the way. A solid day with the weather in mint condition which is unusual for the south east. 85 finds for the day and 5 labs.
Thanks for the cache

Cache was easily spotted, and not too hard to reach with a device from Sylken's vehicle.
Out this way grabbing some easy caches before stopping for lunch and accommodation. CP over shot the endpoint, and we had to reverse back on a busy road. I also realised that a dead kangaroo was between us and the fence...CPs handy TOTT made quick work of the hide. Thanks for the cache GeoVenture.
Missed a weekend in the South East earlier this year due to the dreaded plague.
Took a drive roughly in that direction this weekend with Sebastbat to make up for it a little.

Found during a very enjoyable caching trip to the South-East of SA with e.gregory1 for a few days. On Day 1 we traveled to Robe via the coast road, Princes Highway, through Meningie, Salt Creek, Kingston SE and camping out for the night. On Day 2 we drove around Beachport to Millicent and completed the GV2020 puzzle series before resorting to cabin accommodation in Millicent due to deteriorating weather. On Day 3 we toured around Millicent, out to Kalangadoo to do the bottle component of the wine geo-art series (leaving the glass for another day), down to Mt Gambier and Port MacDonnell, then back for another night in the cabin. Day 4 saw us return home through Penola, Naracoorte and Keith and back along the Dukes Highway. Targeting a range of cache types (Traditionals, Puzzles, Earthcaches, Multicaches, Wherigos, a Letterbox and a Virtual), a multiple of cache attributes, and a wide variety of Difficulty/Terrain combinations resulted in some quick drive-by’s, tackling the trails, some tree-climbing, often using elevation devices and enjoying some nice walks and great scenic coastal locations. Thanks for the cache GeoVenture2020!
FeatherWaite and I thought we might chance our luck with the winter weather and head down to the south east for a few days of camping and caching. While the caching worked out well, the weather deteriorated quite a bit and we ended up having to abandon the camping idea after the first night and find ourselves a cabin for the next two. However, it did allow us to save some time and find a few more caches that we might otherwise have not got to in the time available.
After making our way down the Coorong, visiting a selection of targeted Traditionals, Multis and Earthcaches, we rolled out the swags on the first night under a beautiful clear (but cold) night sky near the coast south of Robe.
The following day we cached our way to and around Millicent until well after dark, picking up over 100 Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual and Earthcaches, including the GV2020 geoart series, before settling into a cabin for the evening.
Another day caching around Millicent on the Friday allowed us to find another 85 or so targeted caches before the rain arrived in earnest and we were glad of the cabin accommodation again that night.
We made our way back home to Adelaide the following day via Penola and Naracoorte, again picking up a nice variety of caches along the way.
Overall it was a great trip, with over 200 Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Letterbox , Virtual and Earthcaches found along the way, many with quite high difficulty and/or terrain ratings. Most of the caches were in good condition, unless otherwise specifically noted. Favourite points have been allocated to those that I particularly enjoyed or found very clever along the way.
Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the caches and the various puzzles. I am looking forward to my next visit to the region, possibly later in the year for the rescheduled Mega event at Millicent in October.

So the geohusband finally has a day off work today so after a leisurely morning we headed out to collect a few caches in the Coonawarra. I’d brought him and the ladder so we could tackle a high terrain cache. We also collected the info on another multi so I can race back and sign it tomorrow before work. So happy to have all these new multis close to Naracoorte!
Lovely arvo we collected 6 finds and enjoyed our rural drive.
Embarrassed to say this one took a fair while to spot. Then needed the ladder. Used to work with one of the Clayfields, lovely family.

Trying to keep out of trouble and its certainly quiet out this way. Staying at a camp south of Penola, no one much around anywhere which is good for our social separation. We enjoyed the variety of hides and the different tools we made up from the back of our car to reach some. Good creativity with a touch of evil. Fav point alloc. for this one. Our thanks to GeoVenture2020 for placing this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the area.
Sir_spectre and I wanted one more trip down to the south east before the Mega arrived and this was a great opportunity to find some geocaching artwork as well as get some of the higher terrain that have been published. An event was a bonus we were not expecting to get to but the caching gods allowed us to get there.

Back down to Mount Gambier with Mogni. She wanted to do mainteneance on some of her caches. Day 3 saw us slowly returning back to adelaide. After taking the coastal road down we took the inland road back. I think i finally have a almost ( less than 5 caches ) clear road from mount gambier to adelaide now. Any containers that needed maintenance were fixed and any log books that needed replacing or that where almost full where replaced with the mega coming. Also any small container had extra scroll placed in it for the coming mega in 4 weeks.
The poor car must be getting confused on which way its travelling as at every cache it does a u turn so we dont have to cross the busy road TFTC

Well we are a bit further up the road and its just as busy, pleased we arent travelling with animals or children today, they would be grizzling that they wanted to get out and it would be way too busy here. We are surprised at how busy this road is considering it is mid week and most people should be at work and school now.
Yes these are clay fields, and the sign is right.
The cache has a very good attach device, its almost a skill set to get the cache off the structure.
Clay is a finely-grained natural rock or soil material that combines one or more clay minerals with possible traces of quartz (SiO2), metal oxides (Al2O3 , MgO etc.) and organic matter. Geologic clay deposits are mostly composed of phyllosilicate minerals containing variable amounts of water trapped in the mineral structure. Clays are plastic due to particle size and geometry as well as water content, and become hard, brittle and non–plastic upon drying or firing.[1][2][3] Depending on the soil's content in which it is found, clay can appear in various colours from white to dull grey or brown to deep orange-red.

Although many naturally occurring deposits include both silts and clay, clays are distinguished from other fine-grained soils by differences in size and mineralogy. Silts, which are fine-grained soils that do not include clay minerals, tend to have larger particle sizes than clays. There is, however, some overlap in particle size and other physical properties. The distinction between silt and clay varies by discipline. Geologists and soil scientists usually consider the separation to occur at a particle size of 2 μm (clays being finer than silts), sedimentologists often use 4–5 μm, and colloid chemists use 1 μm.[1] Geotechnical engineers distinguish between silts and clays based on the plasticity properties of the soil, as measured by the soils' Atterberg limits. ISO 14688 grades clay particles as being smaller than 2 μm and silt particles as being larger. Mixtures of sand, silt and less than 40% clay are called loam.
Fascinating hey. Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache, found, signed and replaced. TNLN
