WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 6 - Morgan to Jamestown via Burra and Hallett. After a fun day around Morgan yesterday, it was time to move on. A very cold night last night. I did a few roadside caches along the way, but I spent most of my caching day around Burra. I have done quite a bit of caching in Burra before, but it was great to see a wonderful collection of caches to be attempted today. I even managed two sets of Labs, including a good walk around the mine site. As I headed over to Jamestown, there were a few caches that drew attention to the huge wind farms on all of these ridge lines. My last cache ended up pretty much being where I stopped to camp for the night. Into town for dinner tonight.I was a little surprised at how large this church was, but that did not stop me gathering the numbers, even if some translation was required. The GZ was worked out and the cache found without any issues. Thanks for the cache froghoppin46462.7 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & The Melbourne Event 2015 Geocoin A#327**Albida**
Picked up Detofinbars and headed to Burra for lunch and beers with a mate that I played cricket against over 30 years ago. He's currently on holidays visiting his parents and relatives. Picked him up and he joined us and learned about geocaching, as well as a magnificent, guided tour and history of the Burra area after a great lunch. With little or no internet, we still manage to get a few caches around the town. We also got a few on the way there and home. Overall a fantastic day was had. TFTCThanks to our muggle friend with this one.
Luckily we had a local Muggle friend who provided some useful info here as the phone towers were down. Quick find in the end. Tftc.
Left Tanunda this morning on our way to Farrell Flats via Burra. Grabbing a cache here and there as we go if there is enough room to park close by.After doing the Town AdLab thought we may as well do this one too, trying for at least one physical cache in each town. With this one firstly we went to the wrong church, in our defence it was hot and the car was parked further down the road. Probably why we couldnt find foundation stones , nice church though. We walked further up the road and look at that there are foundation stones. Quick math had us looking, should always wait for phone, gps etc to settle as Mr dimor went to the wrong spot. I found it abt 15m from where he was cursing and moaning at the right GZ.TFTC
TFTC froghoppin your cache ST Mary's Church Burra that we found today. After spending the last 3 weeks in and around Shepparton we are now on the move , heading to Yorke Peninsula. This is day 4 of or travel time. After breakfast we set out to cache around this heritage town First we met up with honeysucker who was in town. Then we headed out to explore using caching as a bit of a guide.Find Count: 17521
This was the second cache (and second multi) for the day at Burra. Wow this one didn't disappoint. Naughtybunny and I were so happy they had the door open so people could go in and have a look. The inside was really impressive! We took our time looking around and took lots of photos. We lit a candle and calculated the final co-ords with some divine inspiration. The final cache was located quickly nearby. Thanks so much for bringing here and it's another case of finding somewhere amazing thanks to geocaching! TNLN. Cheers.
I'm not religious in the slightest, but this church is AMAZING! Chookster and I spend absolutely ages here, looking at everything from the embroidery wall hangings to the tapestry hassocks, the cool organ and of course the beautiful stained glass windows. I lit a candle for my Grandma and Grandpa Peter who were Anglicans (I think originally C of E) and got a bit teary! Thanks so much for this cache, froghoppin, I probably wouldn't have visited this Church without it. If I could award a FP I would!
Travelling with iluvtrekking up the WA coast to Darwin, down the Centre and in the Flinders. Basing ourselves in Peterborough for a few days to grab finds in the surrounds. Thanks froghoppin
Travelling with richlink from Perth to Darwin up along the west coast and home again through the centre and the Nullarbor, picking up caches as we go. Today, we are exploring beautiful Burra and some of the surrounding countryside. Thanks for the hide here. We had fun with our homework and looked in all the wrong spots until we found it. TFTC.
Not sure how I got this one. My calculations put me about 25 m away from where I actually found the cache – I looked at all the likely spots and then finally found the tell-tale sign. TFTC
Catching up on some late logs.
Heading across to Geraldton to catch up with some friends who are not travelling too well at the moment I decided to take the road less traveled and picking up LABS and anything else nearby.
After completing the nearby lab we spotted this one not too far away and thought that we would try our luck. We sorted out what was required and came up with a set of co-ords which we followed to this cache. Happily at gz we made a nice easy find in a logical location and the log book now contains our name,

Obtained info with Trodectus and avoided muggles to locate cache. Log signed and returned. TFTC
Solved and found with Coybear2000. We'd spent the night in Burra and visited the church the next morning. We calculated the co-ords over breakfast and afterwards went for the find. We arrived to find some muggles with their vehicles nearby. They were too busy to pay any attention to us, and we soon had CIH. We ducked behind a tree, signed the log, then replaced all and continued on our way. TFTC.
Stopped to look at the stained glass windows at thus church. They are pretty impressive. Gathered the information required then it was off to find thd cache.

Time for a Thursday Mystery Tour with the Rat so after picking her up from her nest we again headed north. But this time the main target was Burra and the new AdLab there. Of course there were going to be quite a few physical caches as well. Returned via the Worlds End Highway as the caches we both wanted were thicker there. This is one of twenty on the list that were found, no DNFs but did drive past another two while I was playing with the navigator.
Had a good look around but no cache was found. Decided to double check all conversions and substitutions and ended up back where we were. But the cache had not returned from the other dimension and my attempted phone call came to naught so we decided to leave a replacement.
Thanks froghoppin for putting out this cache for us to replace.
Cache #13110 for me.

A Thursday Mystery Tour was planned with Ttrogg.
We stopped here on on whilst in Burra. We searched GZ and no luck.
So Mrs Rat Went and gathered the numbers and we drove off.
Parked the geomobile and redid the calculations.
Back we went still no luck.
Cache had disappeared, so a quick pray to the divine one.
We placed a cache and logbook at gz. Tftc

Was gathering the info to solve the puzzle, when a number of ladies from my walking group rolled up, brandishing a key to enter the church. Small world.

Here was an interesting concept, Converting Roman Numerals. However the task was achieved and the cache located. Cache OK
I collected th clues for this one last night and worked out the coordinates to come to find go this morning. Happy to be logging a couple of caches in Burra during our overnight stop
Well Mark's Roman numeral knowledge really helped here. No google needed.
Found and signed easily too.

Had to head for the shops from our accommodation and saw this was on the way, so had to make the detour. Gathered some numbers, did some maths and got some coordinates that were not too far away. Headed to GZ and spotted the cache out in the open in plain sight. Extracted the log and then signed it, and then replaced all as found and covered with some camo.

Wonderful old town with a wonderful old church. The Lady Captain and I loved it.
This was our first stop once we'd found and eaten lunch at the local bakery.
The door was slightly ajar so we decided to leave the search until later in the day. Came back a little later (six hours!) and found the cache.

After spending far too much time looking for the right foundation stones at the wrong site, we worked out the shady grounds of St Mary's was further up the road!
Had to use the search engine for the translations, but we got there in the end. Cache and log both in great condition. TFTC and maintenance

Full time nomads since 2014. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.
Back in SA for harvest work. Spending a few days in Kapunda before heading to York Peninsula. We nearly got washed away yesterday in the yukky weather but today has far more promise so we set off to explore Burra. Even with a stop at the Burra Butcher. Had some hiccup with a bad load of caches into the GPSr but thankfully had all available on the phone.
Love the history that is shared with us here through Geocaching yet again.

Wow - so beautiful
If only these walls could talk and tell us the history.
It's great to be able to travel and see so many quaint little country towns.
As we meander down towards GeoVenture 2020 (in 2021), Millicent, we stopped to put a smiley here.
It's wonderful to explore SA through the eyes of a Geocacher,
especially when it takes us to such interesting places.
We found your cache and with signing duties done and dusted,
we replace the cache as found.
Thanks for sharing this interesting historical location.

Day 1
A puzzle or a multi pretending to be a puzzle ? quick solve and find.
found with Mogni and Jacknor. We where heading up Carrieton for a couple of days and then on to the Flinders Rangers for 5 days. The plan was to find as many of the church multi's as we could going up and then bright and early the next day head off to the " Bendleby Ranges " 4 x 4 tracks. Then clear the next section of multi's between Carrieton and Rawnsley Station and of course a few stray trads that would help Jacknor's jasper grid. A straight week of over 30 degrees meant less hiking than planned but we still got to the top of Rawnsley Bluff as well as some other smaller hikes. The Rawnsley station 4 x 4 track was completed and by then it was time to decamp and start the drive home. Stopped at orroroo and cleared the town out before going back to the church multi grind. All caches that where found that were brittle or damaged were replaced and extra logs added to those caches that the scroll was full or almost full, except for nano's. Nano's are evil spawn and you can do your own maintanence on them.

I tried to do this puzzle from home when it was published but it didn’t work. Arrived at the posted and managed to convert the info needed without any troubles. A final was had and a short walk to GZ to find this one.
Today I headed from Adelaide up north caching my way along from cache to cache and found myself in Peterborough for the evening. Stopped at Clare and Burra along the way as well as doing a few lab caches. Roughly 80 finds for the day.

I started 2020 with some improbable caching goals that only lasted until mid February.
Then came Covid-19 and caching began to take a back seat.
But with restrictions easing and socially responsible caching again possible it is time to start filling the calendars again.
Seven cachers set off in Four 4WD vehicles using satellites to search for caches in and around Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges. [^] The Six day Arkaroola Odyssey had begun.
Day 6: A few last caches and head for home.
One last cache for the day whilst passing through a town I had once cleared of all caches. [^]
Some quick calculations and a short walk and the cache was quickly in hand.
***Thanks froghoppin for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Found during our return back to Adelaide via Yunta and Burra from a caching trip to Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park in the northern Flinders Ranges for the week. Really enjoyed the spectacular landscapes, the 4WD tracks, and the walking and rock-climbing in the quest for some challenging caches in a remote region of the State. Thanks for the cache froghoppin!
This week a small group of us headed up from Adelaide to the northern Flinders Ranges to do some exploring and find a few caches. Although a couple of us had spent some time in the area before, it was new country to most of the group.
The main aim was to find the caches in and around Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park. These were mostly Traditionals, but also included a Multi and an Earthcache. There were also three older Traditional caches that had been archived a couple of years ago but were still in place.
We had some fun navigating around the various roads and 4WD tracks and walking and scrambling up and down the hills and creek lines. It certainly is a very spectacular and rugged part of the state.
The weather was pretty good with a few beautiful still, clear and sunny days although there were also a couple of very windy days. The nights were mostly cold though, with temperatures around zero degrees on a couple of nights.
All of the cache containers and logbooks found were in good condition.
This cache was as found on the final day of our trip and was a quick find as we headed back to Adelaide via Yunta, Peterborough and Burra. The information was quickly gathered, GZ calculated and cache found.

This weekend, I joined Laighside Legends on a trip up north, with the main plan to visit the Bendleby Ranges on Saturday, followed by a hike in the Southern Flinders Ranges at Rawnsley Bluff. We managed to escape the rain and poor weather in Adelaide, and we were only affected by minor drizzles and some cold winds on Sunday morning.
Today we headed from Adelaide to Peterborough in the late afternoon, so moreso driving, and less so geocaching. We did make the opportunity to make a quick stop at Saddleworth and Burra, before finding a few geocachers in Peterborough before resting for the evening.
I needed a mystery/puzzle cache type for today's calendar day, so despite Laighside Legends being second to find at this cache, we stopped here so I could make the find. We managed to talk through the translations rather than using any decoder, and once we felt it was right, I walked to GZ, where the cache was quickly found. Sure enough, the checker matched my arithmetic also. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks froghoppin for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Impressive building. They really do like a church in this town. A nice little field puzzle that I solved without an problems. Then found the cache in the first place I looked but it was until the 2nd time I looked there that I actually saw it...

A nice sign of the times when wealth and faith often came connected. (Maybe they still do...)
For many the mining boom in Burra would have felt like a gift of God !
Did some frogmath and found a cache.
Cache container even had a touristy theme reminiscent of my 1980s career path
Was a good morning for a drive, now we can be tourists and find some lunch!!!
