Because the area is inaccessible and there seems no likelihood it will open up in the foreseeable future, I am archiving this earthcache to deter possible illegal access attempts. The CO can contact me to unarchive the cache should this area be opened.Thanks,GeoAwareANZ2

In two separate incidences less than a week apart, 13 and 18 February 2023, two young men died after falling from Gibraltar Falls. My deepest sympathies to their family and friends, and the rescue teams.

You may be aware that there are already safety barriers and clear warning signage in place however this has not been enough to deter people from entering the danger zones. Consideration is currently being given to additional measures before re-opening the area to the public.

As soon as I become aware of any updates I will post another log.

Answers submitted to CO

This was the first time I came to the falls. Despite hearing about it I’ve not really ventured much into the parks in my time here - something I’m meaning to change this year.

The falls were beautiful and it was nice and cool on such a hot day. After we finished up I had a wander around to grab the answers for this and start the multi nearby.

Beautiful part of Canberra and I was surprised how close to civilisation it is.

TFTC. Such a lovely place to have our picnic but lots of muggles visiting as well. Love to visit in a different season.

Great to get to the falls, so beautiful, but I had no connectivity (being a visitor to Australia) to find where the cache was. Lovely being there.

Found with Muggle65 (who submitted our answers) Views here were beautiful and we ended up lingering for a long time. Thank you for leading us here ??

We (??????& myself) are in the Canberra area again. It seems of late we are frequent visitors & should be logging some kind of frequent visiting reward points or something!!!!
Nevertheless Gibraltar Falls has crossed our to do list ?. What a fabulous walk. Lovely day for a spectacular view and with plenty of water cascading over the falls, it was worth every second we loitered to see Mother Nature at her best.

Thank you very much StarsAlign & 2 Wheel Drive for bring us here. A fav Point????????

Answers submitted to the CO as well a photo of us at Gibraltar Falls (also attached, along with a photo of a very beady-eyed lizard sun baking near the path).

Another excellent EarthCache visited with much new knowledge gained in the process Smile We have never been to Gibraltar Falls before, but with family (and some waterfall enthusiasts) visited town it was as good a time as any to swing by and check out the scene. It definitely didn’t disappoint, with stunning vistas and the falls roaring in full voice.

Thanks to StarsAlign and 2 Leg Drive for the journey and the geological learnings Smile

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Out and about with Team FATZ (me, AngelG27, TikvaNZ and ZQX) collecting a few caches in the Gibraltar Falls area.

Having shifted the car from Woods Reserve to the Falls, we headed to the various spots for a few caches. The Falls were certainly pumping.

The team collected the info and AngelG27 sent off the answers on our behalf. CO confirmed these answers. What a nice spot to contemplate life - the sound of nature. TFTC SA & 2LD. Have a fave point

Cache 9225 on 10 Sep 2022.

Out with the usual crowd to grab a multi and an earthcache, and have a walk in the bush. The water in the creek was high, but the stepping stones were out of the water so no hassles navigating along the river at Woods Reserve. Then we moved the car to Gibraltar Falls and grabbed the information for the earth cache. Then back to civilization for coffees and breakfast!

The falls were in full flood today - and probably have been for 18 months with all the rain we have had! We enjoyed walking over the mini bridge and admiring the flooding falls from the viewing platform. Answers sent to the CO and photos attached. The CO was quick to respond with additional information we had not thought of! Photos attached as proof of being at GZ!

Thanks StarsAlign for the cache and the fun!

Team FATZ had plans to head up Mt Tennent this morning, but at least one of the party was recovering from illness and a 650m elevation gain was a little out of range. This cache and a couple of other newish ones nearby were enough to tempt the four of us out here today. A lot less challenging than Tennent but still challenging enough.
The falls were pumping (see photo) and more spectacular than the last time I was here (April 2015 from memory).
After this we hunted for an old trad (well done TNZ for finding that one) then headed to southern Canberra for an AL. Then a cafe stop for some planning.
Another fun outing with the usual suspects.
Thanks StarsAlign and 2 Leg Drive for this educational EC.
Consolidated answers sent from AG27 on behalf of the four of us.

Making the most of some better weather, AngelG27, ZQX, Fox in Jox and I headed to Gibraltar Falls for a wander and to collect a few caches. We started at Woods Reserve, then came here. The falls were flowing nicely after last night's rain. Answers submitted by AngelG27 for us all. Definitely worth a visit - my first since before the fires. TFTC.

Gibraltar Falls, always a pretty spot, was even more spectacular today with the large volume of water flowing in the creek and over the falls. It would have been impressive during the heavy rain last week!

I enjoyed exploring this familiar area again, this time with an eye for the geology, and it's so lovely to see the regrowth post-fires.

Answers quickly gathered and sent to CO who has kindly given me permission to log. Required photos - and then some - attached.

Thanks, StarsAlign & 2 Leg Drive - a stunning location for an eathcache and a favourite from me!

This is always a beautiful place to stop and admire. Lots of water was coming over from the top pool. The ranger was also in attendance.

What I did find surprising it is a weekday school is in but the car park here is full ! TFTC.

After the rain at Corin's Dam scuppered our original plans we stopped here with Ilmari_the_Red, and managed to make a tour of the falls between rain showers. We sent the answers to the CO. The first photo below is the compulsory one.

Chooo ooo [FTF] on a lovely sunny Monday public holiday afternoon! Mind you it was quite cold up here. Answers have been sent to the CO - I was surprised that I actually had some phone reception here! I was also stunned to see so many people here today, but I guess it was a holiday and the weather was great!

All in all, a nicely done earth cache, in one of the most spectacular places in the ACT - so a favourite from me! Thanks StarsAlign & 2 Leg Drive and congratulations on your first hide StarsAlign! Smile
