28 September 2024 08:50 Both dalerious and I haven't cached through here before so we were looking forward to visiting my nephew, who happened to be up at the bush block in Glenpatrick for the long weekend. We got to his place Friday arvo, and after unpacking the car and having a good chinwag, we decided that we would all hop in the Hilux and grab a few on the mountain before going back down and cook some steak on the barbie for tea. The next lot of caches were found on the Saturday morning after dragging ourselves out of a very comfortable bed for the night. This time we went in Azrin80's Nissan Patrol. He had a ball driving us around and once he found a cache or two we couldn't stop him!The bugger hopped out of the car and had the cache in hand before I could say "Go fetch Az".The place was relatively quiet for a long weekend, and the bush looked fresh and not too dry. Although, there was plenty of fuel on the ground, and it makes us wonder why they don't perform fuel reduction burns here, considering the severity of the fires in the region last year.Thank you chooknchunk for keeping this "old" series alive. All the cache containers and logs were in good condition. And thank you Azrin80 for a wonderful weekend.
28 September 2024 8:48amThe replacement book is in good condition, and by the look of the original, we could sure tell why it was there. We had two 4x4s to choose from. This day it was the Nissan's turn to play in the Pyrenees. Picking up another handfull of these ripper old caches for the day, we still left plenty up here for another adventure. We figured they had lasted up here in such good condition for so long, they should last long enough for Azrin80 to invite his Aunty catnap777 and I back for another tour of his back yard. TFTC&Series Pyrenees Kid & Mikita, and thanks for looking after them chooknchunk. [^]
Out caching with Lumpyjrb, I did enjoy seeing the original log book. Thanks for the cache.
Found with rohkad. Some cool 4wd tracks here! Glad this old one is still here, been almost 20 years. Not a 4L container anymore. Tftc
The fog was as thick as pea soup as we made our way along the track. This was my last for the day, but 3 is better than none when you're with muggle hubby. Will be returning for some more on a clearer day!
The next part was finding my way to the waterfall. Hmmm. Learning the quickest tracks are not the easiest! Listened to a good audio book, 'A Fortunate Life' driving around.

Today I headed out West to Mt. Avoca to tackle the hills and target of the first 500 Victorian caches.
We did have a few obstacles along the way with a number of trees down from the high winds earlier in the week, there were also a couple of tracks later in the day that we decided not to tackle in the Subaru so we did miss a couple but we got most of our target caches.
It was certainly a great day to explore the area.
**Thanks to Mikita for placing this cache.**

I headed out with Steve to Avoca to target some of Victoria's 500 oldest caches.
The weather was perfect all day but once in the bush, our progress was hindered and then stopped a number of times by branches and entire trees that had been downed by last week's storm.

Spent a while looking for this one, unfortunately wasn’t successful we are locals so will be back to give this one another go.
Sean.75, kenbryl and I decided to cache our way around the area today as we hadn't really been here before. The views are spectacular from where we have been. tftc
After quite a gap the cache now has some love. kenare, Sean.75 and I headed up this way for a day of caching. Our plan was to head into the ranges and have a picnic somewhere that Sean.75 had said looks good. We left home at 9am, stopped in Beaufort, because we can never drive through there without stopping at the bakery, then headed through Avoca and then up, down, up, down, around, up, down, around a bit more and then here, there and every where and even managing to go underground!! tftc
Visiting an unknown area with kenare and kenbryl today and enjoying every minute.
Cache was found rather quickly. Cigc. Tftc

When making some rough plans for our weeks stay in St Arnaud, Geoturtle had mentioned that she really wanted to spend a day exploring this area. She likes looking for the old caches and the chance to practice her 4x4 driving.
At a bit of a chat last night, others mentioned that they would like to also have a look around the area so we ended up with 6 Victorians, 2 Canadians and 3 Vehicles.
We left St Arnaud at about half eight and were on our way after fueling up.
Avoca was our first stop as the bakery there has some awesome combinations and our overseas visitors had never heard of, nor tasted a snot block.
With taste testing over, we were on our way.
We had a good day with great company. Many laughs were had, caches were found and some great views and driving fun was had.
As it was getting dark and we could see rain heading our way, we chose to leave the hills behind and come back another day to complete what we didn't get to this time.
Avoca was again a place for nourishment, both food and beverage. After everyone had had a good feed, we stopped in at the Chinese Gardens and the cemetery for that "just one more" cache.
Thank you to all the CO's that made this possible. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day and we will definitely be back to look around some more.

Before leaving Melbourne, we discussed the caches that we wanted to target with OHC and I mentioned that the ones in this area were definitely on my "to do list". Quite a few of them have CO's that we know, they are old caches and we have heard a lot about them.
We had today free so with a few more friends (and two more cars), we headed to Avoca to visit the bakery after re-fuelling in St Arnaud.
Once we had finished our snacks, and introduced our Canadian passengers to the delights of "snot blocks", we were on our way into the bush.
We had a great time exploring the tracks and locating caches. There was only one road that we chose to not attempt but there were more than enough other tracks to get us where we needed to be.
We saw some great views and explored a mine shaft or two. We eventually found our way to civilisation and found a few more caches.
We watched the sky darken quite quickly and it was decided that we would make our way back to Avoca for some dinner and come back another day.
I believe we all enjoyed our dinner and we made our way to the cache at the Chinese Garden and then onto the multi at the cemetery. By the time we got to the cemetery, it was dark and drizzling which definitely added to the atmosphere of caching in a cemetery at night.
From here, we re-inflated our tyres and made our way back to camp at St Arnaud.
Many thanks to all the CO's that placed, maintain and adopted these great caches. We are looking forward to coming back here and doing the caches that we didn't have time for today.
Again, to all the CO's and today's company, Thank You for a great day out.

Out on a geocaching trek with seven others in 3 vehicles to conquer a few geocaches in the Pyrenees State Forest. Chasing some old caches and also some different D/T combinations.
After fueling up we departing St Arnaud at 8:30 in the morning in convoy and headed direct to the pies shop in Avoca where Kangaroo Pies and Snot Blocks were on the agenda for our international guests. We reached our first cache at 10:45 for a quick find, the start of 24 in total for the day. There was some easy driving tracks, a few missed or incorrect turns, some fairly heavy 4x4 tracks and many interesting places were discovered.
By the time we arrived back in Avoca at 6:30 pm for a counter meal at the pub most were weary and needed a meal and beer.
Somewhat revived we headed to the Chinese Garden and the local Cemetery for a couple of quick caches on the way back to St Arnaud, arriving at 9:30 pm.
Thanks everyone for a fun day!
All caches were quick finds by one or another of the group.

In the Grampians for 9 days with the 4WD Club, checking out the area, doing some easy and some extreme 4WDing and of course grabbing some caches. TFTC.
Another step closer to completing the ausmer challenge - thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache. Not a lot of swag left an orange golf ball, took nothing. Tftc

We CAME. We CACHED. We SAW STUFF. Eight South Australian caching teams on the prowl in Lake Victoria. We were attacked by vampire mosquitoes. We were attacked by rogue magpies. We were attacked by brown snakes. We were attacked by running kangaroos. We were attacked by publicans and cooks. In the end we got the message and went home, but not before finding lots of hidden cachey things using billions of dollars of satellites and cheap hand-held devices.
A 4 day trip from Adelaide to Everton, Beechworth and surrounds.
8 of South Australia's finest caching teams came across the border Freddo, Team Astro, The White Dog Gang, Four Fun, Unicycle, Southern Cross Caching, Shonkloic, and Team Waldron hit the bike trails and country back roads.
It wasn't nice the the mozzies were sent to defend the ceches against us but we persisted.
On the way home we visited Bendigo, St Arnaud and many towns in between.
Many thanks to all the cache owners who put out caches for us to find.
A great time was had and we left enough to make another trip worthwhile.

Found on an awesome trip with the SAW STUFF boys (Shonky, Astro[me], Waldron, Southern Cross, Whitedog, Unicycle, Freddo & Four-Fun). The trip had it all including this awesome cache. There were pots and schooners (no pints) , mazzive mozzies the size of small elephants we hitched rides on , realistic lizards, real live [xx(] kangaroos that got too close and uphills. Then there were bikes and pumps. There was sweat and dust but no tears. My thanks to the group and the coordination that enabled an amazing fun filled few days that will go down in caching-lore. [^]
Thanks to Mikita and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

A plan was hatch today to meet up with chooknchunk, ST37E and Wozzle68 to tackle some of the caches in and around the Avoca region. What a fantastic day we had! This one was a short stroll to GZ where the cache was quickly located. Thanks for placing. Mikita.
Having enjoyed this fantastic series of caches last year, we, along with Wozzle68 again, couldn't resist the opportunity to accompany our friends ST37E and Glanville Girls on another day out here in the Avoca Hills. It was a perfect autumn day and a great fun day was had by all. We also came prepared this time and were able to replace any broken containers and soggy logs as required. Thank you again Mikita and Pyrenees Kid for this legendary series. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.
Enjoying our day out here exploring the Avoca Ranges, and having a great time with Wozzle68.
The drive here from the previous cache was very easy, but very beautiful. The wattles have finished flowering, but we agree that it is amazing how much the bush changes at each bend. The cache was found easily - it was out in the open. Fixed up as per separate note. Thank you for bringing us here Pyrenees Kid and Mikita.

Maintenance performed: The container was found out in the open and was completely broken. We replaced this container with an ice cream container for now, and placed it in the logical place where the GPS needle indicated. Cache now dry and protected.
Found in the company of the effervescent duo that is chooknchunk. Earlier in the week
we made plans to hit this beautiful area to pick up some older caches. We had a great time here today, luckily it was cooler and much less windy than yesterday.

Caching today in the Pyrenees Ranges with becca85. It was a bit like girls gone wild but not the first sort that you might imagine! We were in the bush for the day in hubby's 4WD and I only had a quick rundown last night on what to do! Lol. We had a super day getting about 10 caches. We saw lots of kangaroos and wallabies, plenty of cockatoos, amazing views, some DEPI blokes, a few cows on the road and plenty of laughs. What a beautiful spot so very close to home. Many thanks for the cache
A very fun day had today, knocking off many of the caches in the Pyrenees Ranges with GemmaSistema and her trusty 4WD. Plenty of wonderful views, wildlife and great company.

Stopped in the 'parking area' nearby and walked over . Not much wattle to see here today.
TNLNSL. Cache is upside down due to the busted lid [B)]. All of these buckets need replacing quite urgently - they've done their duty well since 2003, but it's really time for an update now [xx(].
Maybe someone needs to adopt these, since the CO hasn't been active since 2005 [|)] (last logged in 2009) [?].

Cache container - lid actually - is pretty well knackered and needs to be replaced otherwise the cache will soon be a thing of the past.
The cache container has seen better days and like Mrs B said it needs replacing, so if you're planning to do this cache (rather than stumble upon it like we did) then a good sized sistema container would help with the survival of this cache.

It was interesting to observe the different types of vegetation as we made our way around parts of The Pyrenees. It is hard to realise that caches such as this one have been quietly nestled in situ for six years. As mentioned by a cacher in January the cache was a tad damp.
