A nice drive out here today, parked up and made my way up the hill, nice to find this oldie. Could camp here too

With a few days off back in Adelaide I decided to head to the mid north again after still having some caches to find up this way from my last visit 2 weeks ago, nice to be driving around on the back roads exploring new places and seeing the country side.

Thanks for the cache

14-Sep-20
This one had been on my radar for some time but with summer closures it made it off limits at times. Nice to finally get the smiley. Definitely an area visit and enjoy. TFTC

07-Jul-20
Quite a walk but found quickly. Tftc.

25-May-20
thought I'd have an afternoon on a few caches thru this lovely drive
No go at this one - closed Sad

12-Oct-19
Took off to the North with Jack the Monkey, Sebastbat, and Purrfect Di today.
Dropped in on a medieval fair and saw cacher Chrispy89 along the way!!!
Thought we'd better find some caches too... Cool
So off we went again, after stopping for some regional icecream Razz
Looking at the time, and checking the SA Water website, this quickly became a priority.
Was over three years ago I DNF'd this one because the place was shut for "maintenance", and it looks like there have only been three finds since then!!!
Managed to drive right in today and only a short stroll up the hill to find a neat little cache.
No slippery guardians today, but a big hole nearby, which we thought may be an echidna hole due to diggings in the dirt nearby. Nothing came out to say hello. So off we went to the next ones.
Finally we have beeten this! Cool
tftc Liz and Bruce

06-Jul-19

A quick find. Great area for caching. TFTC

07-Oct-16

Couldn't get to this one today, too late in the day and the Reservoir area was closed.

03-Aug-16
Sadly impossible to find today as access is restricted (for some time by the looks)
while "maintenance" is done. Opening hours didn't help as it's all closed off anyway [:(!]
SA Water really don't like cachers Twisted
Thanks for the challenge Liz and Bruce
will place on the watch list and return asap if it opens again!

10-Jun-16
Found It!
The gates were due to close at 3:30pm. I arrived at 3:20pm. So it was very much a race in, run up hill, find cache and then quickly get out before they shut the gates!
TFTC

30-Aug-15
After a nice BBQ lunch at the picnic spot and a view of the reservoir, climbed the hill searching for the cache. Wet slippery grass and a compass not co-operating, but WA mate Geowhiz used some logic and spotted it. Great location. Tftc

16-Aug-15
A bit of a climb but I got there in the end.

11-Jun-15

Out for a caching morning while mom is at a meet in Gladstone. Nice little drive to get these caches today.

Went past a grader as it, well graded the road, on the way to GZ, followed by a nice stroll up a hill.

01-Sep-14
Cool A quick find before the gates get closed at 15:30 hours, then look at the dam, you can't beet this, area so green, and a rainy day. Cache in good order. TFTHSL

08-Jun-14
The grounds were just opened, so were glad to get here late as we did [8], or we would have had to come back another time.
This was the biggest hill we climbed (on foot) today Razz.
TNLNSL. Went for a drive through the gorge up to the Reservoir wall afterward Cool. Great to be exploring this part of the Flinders that we always seem to be driving past to somewhere else Big Grin.
Thanks Liz & Bruce (and FelixII for the replacement).

07-Jun-14
Cache apparently moved after the recent fires. Good to see signs of regrowth.

07-Jun-14
It was great to find that this cache survived the recent fires. Amazing also to see the new shoots on the charred eucalypt remains.

01-Jun-14
Our thanks to Felix II for helping us with the maintenance of this cache [^] [^]

29-May-14
Touring Australia having left Perth in late February we are leisurely touring South Australia.

We were heading out to do some local exploring when we read our emails and noticed a request from a local to help out placing some new caches. hmmm what have we got onboard. [^]

Into the dungeon we went and pulled out some caches to camo. So hunting was now on the backburner and painting and glueing were priorities. Razz

Finally it was lunchtime before we set out to see what we could muster.

So of course this became our lunch spot. The fire in this area was just devastating. The 2 trees at GZ have been burnt to stumps. So we placed a new cache here with some rocks to try and help in case another fire comes by.

TFTC Liz and Bruce

26-May-14
We tried to drop past this cache today to see if it survived the Bangor fires. It seems unlikely as we got within 1km before being turned back. The reservoir apparently closes at 3.30 on weekdays and 5.00pm on weekends.

This area is quite devastated by fire and it will be a pure miracle if it survived. We hope to try again in the coming days. But no luck today as turned back by a locked gate after 3.30pm. grr.

12-Oct-13
We stayed at Crystal Brook last night and then meandered north admiring the wonderful crops.
This was one of half a dozen we found on the way.
This is a lovely drive but I can see why it would be closed in the fire season.

11-May-13
Out for a mother's day/weekend ramble around the mid north, and we made a stop here. Climbed up to the cache, then wandered up the track to the dam wall. Mr Wibble made frequent visits here as a kid (living nearby at Crystal Brook) and when he was young you could still scramble around the dam wall, jump from concrete block to concrete block... none of that anymore!

05-May-13
We found this one with a group of friends. We are all over 60 and it was interesting to find out how fit we all were.

This was our RunCount0th cache in our caching run today - and we found it at around 11:40.
(So this is our 44030th total find.)

Couldn't drive up to the reservoir, the final gate was closed.
Found the cache quickly & left a Micro Container

Thanks Liz and Bruce for the hunt today.

27-May-12

Finally Iam up here at the right time of tear to claim a smiley, grabbed today during a work trip replaced container with a sistema but did not have a log book handy, but original book had some dry areas to sign in TNLN TFTC

14-May-11
Unfortunately we had not read any logs regarding this caches urgent need for repair but as we now have a good supply of buckets, we will give some to our daughter who is keen to come & find some caches around here! We loved the walk around & especially when we found your cache, Liz & Bruce. TNLN Just managed to sign damp log!

18-Apr-11
We were willing to go and help with replacing the cache however when we reached the gate, it was closed and the ranger was there...it was difficult for us to ignore the warning sign about not to trespass past the gate so we gave up.

03-Aug-10
It would be much appreciated if the next geocacher attending this cache could take along a new container and log book. thankyou.

13-Jul-10
cotainers lid is perished and I have inverted the cotainer to try and stop water getting in.

13-Jul-10
Just found this in the nick of time,Please note fellow visitors thi place shuts at 4.00pm during the week.I have had to invert the container as the lid has perished and I did not have a container of significant size to replace it and its contents, it was full of water(bit of irony with regards to the location) and I did not have time to dry out the log book.tftc

14-Jun-10
We took a wrong turn at first and ended up in someones driveway, i wonder how often this happens. Eventually found when we took the right road many picnicers b ut managed to dodge them. Found on the way home from JJJ event weekend. TNLNSL.

14-Jun-10
Muggle central here, but thankfully they were far enough away to not bother my search...
TNLNSL
Thanks for bringing me to this great spot.

13-Jun-10
Sad well the muggles, BEET US, did not want to risk the cache's safety...Counted over twenty car loads of people, within the picnic area.....Another time. TFTH...

12-Jun-10
Woohoo! Our timing was impeccable in getting access to and finding this cache!
Having placed our cache for the June long weekend event, we ventured further afield in search of some more remote caches.
Yet again Liz and Bruce, you have not failed to impress!
Thanks so much for bringing us here.

24-Apr-10
Closed again.
Is this ever open?

21-Jun-09
Couldn' t believe that this fantastic spot hadn't had visit for almost a year! Sadly we arrived after the gates were supposed to have been closed and so did not get to appreciate the full views of the area. We will plan to return as this was a quite interesting spot and we reckon the drive further along could be worth a visit as well. This time we quickly claimed the find and got out before we got locked in. Love these back roads. Just the sort of cache that we have come to love, expect and appreciate from Liz and Bruce. TNLN TFTC

Nice easyish climb for Rocky Glen Grommet's Mum - lots of sun dappling through the trees - beautiful spot.

30-Jun-08
Found whilst out for the day doing a spot of 'end of financial year' geocaching. TNLNSL...but didn't get the chance to visit the Dam - its was after opening times! TNLNSL, Cheers, Rav 4 Raiders

Took Safari truck Left Golf Tee

29-May-07
The heart needed a bit of up beating. Easily enough found. Raining as I found the container, and yes the container is a little moist inside. OK if book is placed in packet properly.

04-May-07
We were in the area, so decided to take advantage of the fire ban lift to revisit a favourite area of ours. The picnic area is still the same, but unfortunately the small orange orchard is a thing of the past. The cache wasn't where we were expecting either. A little further around the road toward the dam is a really cool little cave that has geocache written all over it. Nonetheless, we appreciated the geo-exercise which has become a rare occurrence lately. Cache in good nick, log book a little damp but useable. Took a frog, left a sheep. Thanks Liz and Bruce.

04-Nov-06
What Skippy said.

14-Oct-06
Found the closed sign at the beginning of road, I think I'll came back in winter now that the fire season started.

20-Aug-05

21-Jul-05
GPSr moody under trees as usual – but that looks like a Liz and Bruce spot – gotcha!
A perfect day for it – birdsong and a gentle breeze.
Took purple pterodactyl, left 2 dinosaurs. Thanks L&B.

02-Jul-05
Up in to the clouds we drove. The gates were open but the road further in had been blocked by a falling tree. I scrambled to the find and was pleased with the effort. TNLNSL

17-Jun-05
No locked gates today. Several Muggles out walking a dog the size of a small African nation. Satellite gods managed to make me walk further up the hill than was necessary, but otherwise, relatively quick find. TNLNSL Cheers.

13-Jun-05
..With a stick???
Big Grin Came to see if it was open and to our surprise it was. Went halfway up the hill before Eldest Cheerful Ronny noted we had gone to far up. Youngest Cheerful Ronny releived it wasn't any further. Left safari car took magnetic bean thing.

15-May-05
We were a bit annoyed when we arrived to find the gate closed and access denied. There seems to be no reason for the closure as 'fire ban' season is over. We may phone SA water before our next visit.

15-May-05
Could not enter as the gate was locked and area closed until some rain makes the area not so hostile, will try again later in the year

15-Aug-04

Well, I eventually did. A lovely spot for a picnic after caching. I removed the pencils and left a sharpener. Thanks Bruce and Liz. I am much happier now. See my previous log for this cache (not happy Jan!!!!!!!) Big Grin

11-Jun-04
Found on Friday during a detour on a our drive up from Adelaide. Really truly an excellent spot. We will be coming back here with Toad of Toad Hall.

11-Jun-04
Found by Mary & David at 1214. Hooray - the gate is open this time! Not like our first visit last December. Beautiful trees and so peaceful. Pity you can't visit in summer. Took Buddha, left Chinese figure. Our thanks to Liz and Bruce.

17-May-04
Found at 12:00
On the way back from Melrose, with Gunnell and Pandaabear who found this cache a couple of days ago.
It's raining, but at least there're no snakes.

Left quick-unpick, took bubble pen.
Thanks Liz and Bruce.

This long standing virgin was finally available to the public, no closed gates today. Drove to within 100m and found in just a few minutes. Left canadian geocoin and insect repellant, took the screwdriver. Then had a look at the resevoir, which we got to look at again with Team Unicycle 2 days later after they found the cache. Thanks Liz and Bruce.

21-Apr-04
Ditto. Got to within 650m. But it is a TOTAL FIRE BAN period.

Oh well now we too have another excuse to come back this interesting part of the world.

This long standing virgin lives to fight another day.

Whoopsie
