Travelling the Echo Camp Backtrack today, this cache was a 'must collect' on our run sheet Razz.
Quickly found as we were approaching the end of the paid section (currently $45.00 + $50.00 key deposit).
TNLNSL.
The container could use a replacement, as it's starting to deteriorate again Surprised. Unfortunately, we had nothing suitable with us Sad.
Thanks Richary.

I started 2020 with some improbable caching goals that only lasted until mid February. Red Face
Then came Covid-19 and caching began to take a back seat. Twisted
But with restrictions easing and socially responsible caching again possible it is time to start filling the calendars again. Wink

Seven cachers set off in Four 4WD vehicles using satellites to search for caches in and around Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges. [^] The Six day Arkaroola Odyssey had begun. Cool

Day 4: Echo Camp backtrack
Not a lot of caches to find today but a helluva lot of fun 4WD driving to get to the ones we did find. Cool
A nice stop along the track to take in the views. And find this cache as well. Smile

***Thanks richary for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Big Grin

23-Jul-20
Found during a caching trip to Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park in the northern Flinders Ranges. Really enjoyed the spectacular landscapes, the 4WD tracks, and the walking and rock-climbing in the quest for some challenging caches in a remote region of the State. Thanks for the cache Richary!

I can't believe its been just shy of 5 years since this one has been found!! Cache is in need of a little TLC, I suspect the rai... er... DEW has gotten to the logbook. Windy enough to blow cruiser off course, so we were quick to jump back into the car. Just down from here were the best views along the road, and some of our favourite in the park. TFTC!!!!

30-Aug-11
Talking to some 4WD`ers from interstate.
They were interested in geocaching.
We showded them what we were doing.
They had never heard of it and thought it was a great idea.
We left a soldier and enjoyed the view.

Came up to this cache after following an emu and his chicks on the Echo Camp Backtrack for about 500 metres (he couldn't find anywhere to lead them off safely and what an experience for us). Terrific views from this point. TFTC

Barraranara, Barraranna, Bararranna? This is the third spelling version have seen for this place - who has more? Indeed, one has to get used to these names. As Doug from Arkaroola says: The Aboriginals did not need to spell these names! I remember the correct spelling by splitting the word in my mind: barar-ranna. Hahaha, Savoy Truffle, KoolKat and The Arkaroo just hid a new cache! In contrast, we could have named it Bararranna to make it a bit more confusing - it's actually called Bararranna Gorge - and if you really want to take your's out, Barraranara, I mean, wouldn't be fun!

As you say, this is a gorgeous place. We came here three months ago - all in flowers - today a bit hotter, but now, towards the evening, things are right.

We found the totally degraded plastic container - fortunately humidity does not last here - and replaced it by a 1l yogurt box. Steel like milo chocolate would be better, however we left that at the camp. Put also a new cache note in, however, the pre-printed, laminated thing has our name on; sorry, you may want to replace that. We removed all the bits and pieces which became litter. Thought you may need to service it - now I see your plans!

This was our first find of the year! - and The Arkaroo's 100's found it log.

I am considering a revisit to the area in March 2011, as I love it so much and my girlfriend with have some enforced leave. If I do get there I will redo the track despite the $40 charge, and remove the cache as I don't feel happy having a cache you need to pay to get to. So if you want to get it, plan it soon - even though it is probably going to start getting a bit warm soon!

Trip up north to do a lot of Caching [8]

Left this one to the brat boy due to my broken toe and far too many fitter people around who could get it for me - TFTC

I am glad I went to find this during the daylight and not 10pm like the last time I was near here
The walk was really good for me after driving so many hours in the past few days
Thanks Richary

Definitely not a good day as far as tyres go. Wacky brat boy rose to the challenge.

cheers and thanks for the cache

Today was the day of climbing. After finding "Uranus" we came back to find the end of the track so we headed out on a walk which took us up and down hills which seemed like mountains but we all survived. TFTC. Big Grin

My what an adventure this turned into with the track alive with people legging it in the cache direction.
We were spread out over a kilometre.
I was on top of a hill acting like a traffic cop keeping track of people going in all directions.
That is one tough section to drive on.
Thanks Nibs you certainly stormed this one in.

The locked gate forced the group to abandon the trusty steeds and proceed to the cache by Leather Personnel Carrier. Everyone seemed to splinter off on their own tangents as each one assessed differently the point on the road where it would be quicker to begin ‘following the arrow’. In this terrain, THAT’s not always a wise move, and while I too succumbed to the urge to ‘go bush’, I certainly returned via the road, having learnt my lesson Red Face.
This would be a GREAT 4WD track to actually drive. One day…..
Thanks Richary Big Grin.

Found as part of the crew at the Gammon Ranges event. We found our way barred (coming in the *wrong* way) and weren't prepared to drive all the way back to Arkaroola so we could pay $40 to enter the track, so we parked the vehicles and walked to it! And a very difficult walk it was. In direct contradiction to the previous logs, the cache container is actually very brittle and in a pretty sorry condition. Great views, typical of the area. TFTC.

03-Oct-09
This cache tested the spirit of the group. We drove as far as we could and parked near the gate. That left a 1km walk to the cache. 1km in this terrain ended up being about 1.5km each way. With a couple hundred metres of up and down.

Just what the doctor ordered a walk in the park after sitting in the car all day. That was my version anyway. Great scenery and awesome geology.

03-Oct-09
Found quite easily on the group trip through the Gammon Ranges.
Cache does need a new container and no one was all that quick to volunteer to walk out and then back in with a new one from where we had parked the cars as we weren't prepared to pay $40 to find one cache.

Easy find cache in good condition. Lots of fellow dirt bike riders. (24) Now all interested in caching! TNLN. Fantastic rugged terrain. Only the determined will get this one.

06-Jul-09
Found this cache at 12:30pm while staying at the Arkaroola Village camping ground. Started out not to sure if we would conguer this one as it had not been found for awhile. So decided to give it a try. Went and paid our $40 and got a map and key (as there are some locked gates along the way) and all the instruction. Headed out tob be an amazing day of very extreme 4WD. Some 7oklms that took us all day to complete. There were so many different views and lookout and gorges .
The cache is in excellant condition.
Took: Aussie Pencil. Left Tape measure
Dropped in and out only some TB as this would have to be one of the most remote cache that they could go to.
Thanks Richary for placing the hide.

Great 4wd country and worth the $40 for the Echo Camp back track.

Suggest you have a High Clearance 4wd or be prepared to do some road works..

25-Apr-06
If you haven't done this track before, it's still worth paying the $40 to drive it, then head of to Paralana hot springs.

19-Apr-06
After a dusty drive to the gorge we made our way to the spring found it with the help of a fellow geo-cacher team Jeckel Great spot , beaut day ,tnln , team Redbugger .

19-Apr-06
Found on a perfect Autumn day with Teams RedBugger and Pussbox. It was easier to find than drive the track, which, by the way, is now a $40 track to drive. Took the tissues and left a 4wd Jeep Rescue vehicle. Cache in good nick.
Cheers.

19-Oct-04
After doing the Uranus cache we found we could get quite close from the main road. With the Echo camp track being one way and we were at the wrong end we decided we would hoof it in. The track is in shocking condition due to the recent flooding of the area. It really is a goat track and even walking/climbing was difficult. It was ofcourse much longer than we thought by looking at the GPS but being committed we continued in the 35 degree heat. The views were fantastic and in all an enjoyable experience. Took hat and left xmas decoration. Thanks Richary - these caches have certainly been interesting and challenging.

10-Oct-04
Have bumped the terrain half a star, but if an unmodified Grand Vitara can do it, it's not that serious! Wonderful drive though, I need a few no finds so I have an excuse to go back Big Grin

28-Sep-04
What a great drive, luckily we were here just before the rain
Took CD, left a stapler
Thanx

11-Aug-04
Great way to find a cache after that track in. Almost didn't make it up the last hill but was excited to find the cache.
Took - "C" batteries for the torch
Left - CD of music from COSMOS
All the other tracks pale in comparrison to this one and we think that the Terrain rating can be considered a little higher.
Thank richary for this amazing adventure.
