Since we camped at Arcoona for the night (had the place to ourselves) Big GrinCool[^], it seemed logical to go for a walk up the hill before heading out next morning Razz.
Searched around for awhile, but it appears this one has now been removed Smile.
Thanks anyway Posspet.

Found during a caching trip to Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park in the northern Flinders Ranges with brisal5, e.gregory1, Freddo, Davidwazza, Jesswrigley and Team Waldron. Really enjoyed the spectacular landscapes, the 4WD tracks, and the walking and rock-climbing in the quest for some challenging caches in a remote region of the State. Noted that this cache had been archived but was still in place. Thanks for the cache Posspet Boys!

I started 2020 with some improbable caching goals that only lasted until mid February. Red Face
Then came Covid-19 and caching began to take a back seat. Twisted
But with restrictions easing and socially responsible caching again possible it is time to start filling the calendars again. Wink

Seven cachers set off in Four 4WD vehicles using satellites to search for caches in and around Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges. [^] The Six day Arkaroola Odyssey had begun. Cool

DAY 1: Getting there: Razz
Having not done a proper refresh this cache popped up on the radar and we soon had found that it was still here and signed the logbook. Smile

***Thanks posspet for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Big Grin

Time to go. Thanks for all the fun.

Alex and I took the road in to this cache from the south before continuing north through to one of the Arkaroola roads. We encountered plenty of bulldust holes and a few hairy bits but nothing the car couldn't handle. Looks like this cache hasn't been found in 2 years, so now the timer can be reset. The cache itself was in good condition and still in place. Thanks for the cache!

I have been working in the Northern Flinders (With Operation Flinders) for over 20 years and spend a lot of time on nearby Yankaninna Station.
Great to have some caches around the area to find.

19.03.16 Tftc found while working on the neighbouring station at Operation Flinders, had to wait a week due to the park being closed for shooters, lovely spot, very green at the moment

Maintenance visit. All is good at Arcoona Bluff.
Cheers from the Posspet Boys

Wow! I didn’t realise until I opened the container that this was a Posspet cache. There aren’t too many of THEM about, and I think this is only the 2nd or 3rd that I’ve ever found. Great spot guys, if you’re still out there? Haven’t seen or heard of you for ages Twisted.
No swaps. Cheers and beers from Nibs & Auzee Big Grin.

Another lovely spot. We stopped for lunch on our way into the National Park - a bit windy today but worth the detour. TFTC

Great spot found while exploring this great area with Bowz2. Thanks for the cache.

October Long weekend spent in the Gammons with Mags2
This was camp site first night and we had it all to ourselves (just how we like it)
Awesome spot fantastic views, so scenic!
Nice drive in from Copley / Leigh creek to here, tracks bit cut up from some recent rain but not too bad if you drive sensibly
We then left here the next morning heading on to Umberatana and eventually back to civilisation at Arkaroola and then back home to PTA
Bowz2 loves this country, the remoteness, harshness and beauty of it all rolled in together its quite special. Then consider the pioneers of this area and how tough they did it, all on horseback and the backbreaking work. Take note of the stone fence just before Umberatana and where it goes!!!
TFTC and bring us here!

Travelling the Back road to Arkaroola. Seen a heap of big fat black billy goats.
A couple of nannies and their kids.
We cooked a schnitzel sandwich on the BBQ.
Found the cache and left a soldier.
Geohubby has done some work through here years ago. He put some bores down for the local landowners.
Umberatana Station use to belong to geohubby`s great grandfather. But was driven out by droughts. The family moved to Tarcowie and Alburn.

What a beautiful place. Although I've been to the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park and travelled in the area many times, I've never visited this particular place until now. An easy find after a gentle walk. Thanks Posspet Boys for bringing me to the area and for the cache - I'm sure I'll be back here to camp and climb the bluff sometime.

Thanks first of our recent trip north cheers

Trip up north to do a lot of Caching [8]

25-May-10

Not a bad camp site down in here.
Scrambled up the hill to find I have to scramble down the other side
to get to cache.
Signed away with no trade.
Could easily do an over nighter or 2 here for sure.

If you are a botanist, hint 'Alectryon' may help. Good camping for 2 nights. We were out at least 5 hours for the rugged walk to the Arcoona Bluff. We scrambled along a creek line in towards the bluff. There were some pools of water in the creek, one at the base of a water fall which wasn't too hard to scale. Further along there was a giant boulder to navigate past. Once up on to the saddle at the top of the creek we climbed by avoiding the shear rock sections. We battled over the loose rock and tried to climb between the spinnifex. Great view from the ridge. Descended via different creek, lots of unstable rocks and some log jams but luckily no big cliff drops. Got back with a few scapes and some spinnifex spines to pull out. Appetite was good for a red wine or two with the lamb roast!

Found during the We didn't start the fire Event
A VW kombi Campervan got stuck a few times as we went looking for the cache
If he could get this far so could a Subaru or Pahero Razz
Thanks Posspet for bring us here

After leaving the Gammon Ranges we found a new fence in our path. Luckily I had a sat phone and could make contact with the station owner who let us know the new entrance and was happy for us to go across his land. We caught up with him at the other end and presented him with a couple of bottles of red. The cache was a quick find and we headed out before a Kombi van found itself in a bad spot but they persisted.TFTC. Big Grin

Twenty-second for the extra long weekend trip to the Gammon Ranges.

The best laid plans don't always come too fruition unless you force it and have the technology to back it up.

The force was find a "gap"in the fence, the technology was a sat phone.

Only cost a couple of bottles of wine to the land holder.

Found during the Gammon Ranges event after finding 'Razor's Edge'. If our drive wasn't difficult/long enough already, it was made even more difficult when we found the road closed by the landowner. Luckily firesafe had a sat phone and got the owner's permission to circumvent the fence and cross his property! Much more driving followed before we were at GZ and the cache was quickly found by the group. TFTC.

Lovely area. Thanks for bringing us here. We were driving south from our weekend in the ranges. We had come out of the park via the road closed after Idninha ruins. Sat phone had allowed us to contact the station owner who was more than pleased to let us drive through. It would have been great to camp here. Not often I find a Posspet cache. Two in one weekend is just unheard.

04-Oct-09
Found while on the way out of the Gammon ranges.
We had roughly planned a way that was quite clearly marked on the map but in reality is not doable as the land holder has closed the track coming out of the park past the Idninha ruins.
Thanks to the tech junkie in Firesafe (who had a sat phone) we were able to contact the land owner to gain his permission to use the track.
We came across a Kombi while near GZ that had seen better days but alas was not full of Swedish tourists, only an old Aussie couple travelling around the outback on a shoestring budget.

Was lucky enough to be staying down the road so had to go out and find this one. Very dry round here, found the cache and saw a few goats, though once they saw me they quickly went on there way. TFTC

Fifth one and as it turned, the last on a three day motorbike trip to the outback

Pretty rough track for bike, ended up getting a flat further along, not because of mother nature but because of some fencing wire !!!

Wasted 8 hours repairing it and had to be back in Adelaide the next day

Took snake, left measure spoons.

Hi guys , found it while on yellow-footed wallaby search in Arcoona Bluff area. Signed book, took nothing and had nothing to leave. Cache still in good order with lots of stuff. Good luck. Simon Diss and Chris Davies.

20-Nov-06
Carrying out a Maintenance Visit to the cache. all is in order and the container has now been changed to a more durable ammo box. This should last better than the original plastic box placed 2 years ago.
Thanks to all the cachers who have visited in the last 2 years. Hope that you have enjoyed going here as much as we have.

05-Oct-06
This is a lonely little cache with few visitors. There was a log in july from some German cachers. Took nothing but left a rubber snake to keep the next finder on there toes. Heaps of goats around the area.

14-Jan-06
found at 1425 and 42c!!!

Who put that dirty big hill in the road? Nice easy find in a great area, though the camping area was hot and dry this time of year (why was there nobody camping here????)

Thanks for the cache...BTW, i think the hint is out of date Smile

This was an early morning stop on the continuation of the trip around from Arkaroola. The track doesn't get much worse if your coming from the south. High clearance handy of course.

The hint????. Must have missed some punctuation in that sentence. Others had visited the day before. Sorry we had missed coming across some other cachers. The morning was very cold and the walk was enjoyable. This track showed us the other side of the ranges we hope to be tackling next year. Decided this could be the drop-off point with base set-up over the other side in Grindell Hut.

We TNLN thanks for the cache

Smilefound it easily, great campsite. may come back this way one day. The road from here to Arkaroola was amazing, the isolation of the homesteads, imagine doing these distances on horse back 50 years ago.

Found this cache when I was still a member of Beakers Bunch.
Thankyou

Found the cache with no problems at all. While putting the cache back, the container fell apart. We've replaced the container with an SPC type and buried it under a small cairn under the tree it was originally in. Hopefully the rocks will prevent the relentless exposure the sun gives out up here and will help the container to last that little bit longer.

Thanks

The road to this cache in the main is quite good. Apparently it deteriorates as you continue - we did not. A beautiful drive to this camp area and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Took frame and left cord fasteners. Thanks Posspet.
