Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".

So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.

Visited this cache while out on a run with ilook4geo and Geologic2. The Border Track is in interesting condition with many "camel humps" to bounce over along the way. Some of the sandhills needed good off road driving skills as well. All went well and we all survived. The answers for this cache have been sent t the CO. We had a good view from here even though the day was rather dismal. Thanks for creating this virtual cache go to djcache.

A great view from the lookout. The wildflowers are in abundance this year.

Well we finally made it to the Border Track and after much discussion and with some late minute planning we managed to assemble some sort of 4wd geocaching party and headed out this morning from an overnighter at Murrayville via Pinnaroo and headed Southwards. The crew consisted of tackle head, The Empire, omegaman1971, Snap Happy and Rebel Acts and we enjoyed plenty of laughs and banter as we made our way along the track and with the recent rains the track was firm along the most of the way with a few low clay areas being a little too wet but still passable with a little skill-full driving, some back seat navigation and throw in plenty of cursing and laughs and overall it was a great chance to come and explore this beaut part of the world. The drive to the gz and the views were simply stunning with the word vast that comes to mind when looking all around. Nice little Virtual cache out this way and the short walk was much appreciated by the back seat passengers as l thought l had done my diff with the continual whining coming from the rear of my mighty Triton even after l had stopped and turned the car off... many thanks djcache for the Virtual Cache and for highlighting this area to us. Fave added.

Found by Omegaman1971 and The Crew
It was great to be out and about with the Crew once again for some caching fun and so many laughs.
This track has been on the to-do list for a long time and it certainly didn't disappoint.
This location was a great place to stop and catch up and tell tails about the track so far.

Our second day touring with 'The Crew', this time we were tackling the Border Track. Led by the enigmatic tackle_head in his trusty Landcruiser, we bumped and thrashed our way down the track, all the way to Red Bluff. Answers sent - what a top spot! Favourite point added. Thanks for the cache djcache.

Found by Rebel Acts in the company of the Crew

A four day weekend gave us the opportunity to catch up with the rest of the Crew and head to South Australia to do the Border track and caches in the Big Dessert area, lots of laughs and good times were had over the weekend. There were plenty of good quality caches to be found along the way.

Today we did the border track led by our tour guide tackle_head.

This is one of the caches found today. There was some fantastic views from this location.

Thanks djcache for the cache.

This is the second time we have driven the border track from up near the Murray to Bordertownish with our Muggle 4x4 mates and the first time I was way to engrossed in keeping the car moving to worry about caching, This time I was more prepared or so I thought. I added a bunch of caches and then forgot to download them.

I had read the detail of this cache and knew I could get the group to stop here without an issue. I climbed up the lookout and opened cachly I had signal and I was able to get the requirements.

Email sent and now logging from the comfort of my lounge room.

Thanks for the adventure

Logging with permission.
Off on yet another adventure with Ms_enchantress and her family, heading out to do the Silo Art trail then across to Border Town, up to Pinaroo to do that section of the Border Track back down to border town and then home to the beautiful green rolling hills of South Gippsland (a stark contrast at the moment to this brown barren landscape!)
We had a good time seeing hte sights and 4 x 4 ing.
Sorry for the copy and paste generic log, we had good intentions to write interesting ones but time has gotten away from us, thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches.

An extended weekend with the main destination of the 4WD border track between South Australia and Victoria. Friday consisted of an early start from Adelaide to Ngarkat Conservation Park, and along the way, a few small detours and the Geopets series just outside of Tailem Bend. On Saturday, we tackled our primary purpose of the weekend traveling along the one-way border track, and finally, on Sunday, we left the camp to complete some nearby geocaches and finish the This is SA geoart series near Bordertown, before traveling back home to catch a flight to Brisbane.

Today was the big day 4WD'ing from the start to finish along the border track. We started the day with a few geocaches around the camp, and a walk to the nearby EarthCache, before setting off on our journey. There were many adventures and laughs, and I think my jeep did well in at least attempting many of the dunes and hills. There was a field repair that was conducted, and a few vehicles needed some extra help getting through some soft sand patches. There was even some extra motivation been spoken through the radios by the Supa-team, haha. It was a fantastic group with a mix of Victorians and South Australians, and even a Queenslander who joined us for a section of the track!. The teams consisted of becNmonts, bucketeer, DAB, echocage1, Freddo, Geoturtle37, gridge98, papi 4506, Posums, Malco!, micaparamedic, mogni, Na’wal, sir_spectre, The_Tritonz, and the family team of Csaba!, SupaOrange, and SupaTurtle. There were also a few geocaching teams who joined us at the start and finish events, such as Brad&Janet, and Laighside Legends.

We stopped off here for lunch, and a great location to see everyone come up the hill. One vehicle needed some extra help actually. Nice to have completed this 2004 virtual oldie, with answers sent to the CO, thanks djcache.

After touring the Big and Little desert’s during the week I was looking forward to this event as I had already done the top and bottom parts of the track so it was time to drive the fun stuff.
Quite a few of us arrived last night and camped out under the stars, it was nice putting faces to names of some teams that I finally got to meet.
I was enjoying the drive along the track and the friendly banter over the two way.
This one took a bit longer to get to as we had to wait for one of the team to be dragged out so we could make it up to here.
When we all finally made it up to here, we all stopped for a bite to eat and took turns in climbing the structure and of course taking a few pics.
After the stop is was time to keep moving south so we could make the next camp.
Thanks The_Tritonz for organising this great event and for letting me tag along.
Thanks djcache TFTC.

It was time to hit the Big Desert. We had camped the night before and met up with many other caching teams early. We all set off for a day of adventure through the sand tracks.

We certainly enjoyed both camps today, travelling the border track with great company. We enjoyed our lunch here and tried to stay in the small part of shade. Details were noted, a few pics taken before we took off down the track again.

Today was the culmination of our planning, driving the border track !! After spending the previous night under the stars, it was time to hit the track and let the fun begin !!

This was the perfect spot for a bite to eat and a drink. After gathering some info, we made use of the shade here for a break from the sun. Thanks for the virtual !! TFTC djcache Big Grin

After camping at Pine Hut Soak Last night and a light breakfast the large group of cachers assembled as more vehicles rolled in before we set off to the Border Track for a big day of off-road fun. The Border Track has been on my bucket list for a long time and after missing the last event I made sure I was attending today no matter what.
I wandered over to find this, the trad and trig grabbed a bite to eat and waited for the 4 wheelers to roll in.
The view here is simply amazing

As a member of the Border Event 2019 Mob, I'm happy to post a find on this cache.

The platform provided perfect viewing of the un-bogging events going on the track below us, while the waiting vehicles queued up all the way to the horizon, it seemed.

Answers forwarded to CO.

found with the attendees of the Welcome to the Border 2019 event. We have started down the border track and much fun was had by all. Some of us got to use our recovery gear getting ourselves out, others got pulled out. After bouncing my way through the holes made my the 4 x 4 that just got pulled out, it was lunch time. nice views. I really nice spot to put a virtual and a nice 4x4 adventure to get here. fav point.

A nice and easy find with 20 people all searching .

A massive multi day trip to the border of south Australia and Victoria. The trip consisted of 3 days. 1st day was from Adelaide to the border. Day 2 a drive along the border track and day 3 red bluff to Adelaide via border town.
Day 1: a trip with David Wazza to complete the geo pets series as well as some other caches around Tailem Bend before meeting up with brad & Janet at Tailem Bend and heading to Ngarkat national park for some 4wd and the caches around the area. After finding the first cache an individual decided that we would go down a track that was the quick way, actually a detour if about an hour or so extra. Sometimes it’s best not to follow the GPS.
Then collected some unloved then off to the campsite to meet (the tritonz, micaparmedic, becNmonts, posums, freddo, malco, super orange, super turtle, csaba, mogni, sir_spectre, bucketeer, papi 4506, Na’wal, DAB, echocage1 and laighside legends.
Day 2 was from the event .... to red bluff along the border track collect the caches along the way. At the start of the track one caching team had to pull out due to there car not being up for the track, funny to hear the kids on the UHF at the time turn the situation into a funny one. Mica Paramedics car had some issues with not starting as well as the Jeep hitting the reel tracks showing up the Pajeros, prados and land cruisers. Should of bought a Jeep.
Day 3 David Wazza and I left the red bluff camp spot for the this is SA series, a really fast drive whilst we replaced them all for the CO as requested, although most were in tact. We later went to cache near by and got caught by a farmer for quite some time. Still managed to find the cache though.
Thanks to the Tritonz for a great weekend of organisation and the cache owners for their placements.

A weekend trip out to Pinnaroo to tackle the boarder track and surrounding caches had been in the works for a while and this weekend we were finally able to make it happen. It was a pleasant morning as we made our way south from Pinnaroo, the tracks were dry and reasonebly clear (though there was a fair bit of chatter over the UHF’s from other track users) as we slowly worked our way through the target cashes. It was a good day for me, picking up a few new D/T combinations that I had not yet found and as the sun was setting as we found the last of our caches, we decided to call it a day.

A weekend in the desert doesn't sound all that great does it? But you add some great companions, Anymules, e.grogory, featherwaite, Laighside Legends, Munja and for a while Brad from B&J. [^]Then you mix in, walking, 4WD ing, walking, caching, walking, camping, walking, camp fires, walking, camp yarns, walking, Ngarkat Conservation Park, walking, the Border Track, walking, The Big Desert and walking. Razz What a great weekend. Big Grin Did I mention the walking [?]

We stopped and of course we had to climb up and get a group photo.Smile Also got the ubiquitous photos looking both bays along the track. Gathered the answers required and decided to have something to eat. [^] What was really surprising was the number of vehicles that went by without stopping. At least ten whilst we were there. Surprised Why wouldn't you stop to take in the views. Answers have been emailed to C.O. and logged in anticipation that they were correct.

**Thanks djcache for this cache. ** Big Grin

Pending answers from my son Mark9375 who will send them on behalf of the 3 of us as we traveled the track together if I can get him to do his logs expect them over the bext few days if not I will Be sending them through. We have been looking at this track for some time The only problem was that the 4X4 component of my ute was playing up and I Just didn't trust it on such a testing trip . Being a typical mechanic I had other stuff to do so It took me nearly 12 months to find enough time to fix the ute and gain confidence in its capabilities . I rang a good freind Geojill-11 and also ran it past my son Mark9375 and plans started to come together for the Easter school holidays. Fast forward to now and we headed of to renmark via the painted Silo trail as we wanted to do the track from as far north as we could and pick up other caches along the way Once on the trail the weather gods decided to throw in a curve ball with a series of 37 degree days and it was dam and incredibly uncomfortably hot in the desert with hardly any shade anywhere but as avid Geocachers we had a goal and pushed on. It was hot very sandy very dusty and hot hot hot. Did I mention hot in Autum of all things lol but we had a fantastic time and the ute performed above and beyound my expectations. Pushing on through the heat and the sand. In two days from renmark to Bordertown we did not see another single person on the track so we had no backup and the track was very well chewed up from the Easter long weekend thankyou very much for placing this cache and bringing us to this Fabulous yet extremely hot place TFTC

Moving along from our trip with 4bait and Geojill_11,Ouyen, Renmark, and now Pine Hut Soak/Pinnaroo (Bordertown Next!)

After peaceful sleep under the stars at Pine Hut Soak,we decided to get our backsides moving along the border track and get going. This was one of the many caches along the track that we gained. Some tough 4wd sections really pushed the car to the limits! And it sailed through smoothly

Pending answer and full log, (expected to be in by Sunday)

Sorry the late (and crap) log, I need a good smack. Thanks for the fun Smile

Logged with permission. Coruze and I came in through Pine Hut Soak so only part of the Border Track was travelled. Time was not on our side but we could not be in the general area without attempting to find this cache and we did. We gathered the info required at the structure and as we were leaving a group of 3 4x4 pulled in.
Not sure if they were cachers or not, didn't recognise any of them. Extremely happy to get the smily on another virtual before they disappear.
Thanks djcache for the cache. Fav from me.

Adding a fave for the Virtual as they slowly dwindle out of circulation.

Found while out caching for the day as part of The Border Track Team 4WD convoy. Great views from here, probably the best of the day. If Victoria hadn't stolen that mile this cache would have been both feet in one camp.

29/4/2017 - A cool spot for a virtual cache whilst on the Border Track following this morning's event Smile

One of my most favourite days of caching - 4WDing on the border track with the awesome Snap Happy and other cachers.

----------------------

I've had a big, but generally a relaxing couple of weeks away in Victoria from SA.

Ballarat, Border track, Pinnaroo, Bendigo, Wedderburn, Swan Hill, Maryborough, Mt Beckworth and Mt Gambier are just a few of the spots I have visited during my caching trip. There was an emergency room visit, loads of driving, stacks of laughter, amazing food, lots of new learnings (oh my goodness!!), and a wonderful mix of fabulous people.

I am loving this country and getting out and about in it! Smile

Thanks for the virtual cache djcache! Smile

Found while out caching for the day as part of The Border Track Team 4WD convoy.
This cache was one of the highlights of the trip, being one of the older caches still around, a rare cache type, and in a rather remote area. It was a good location for a lengthier stop, where we regrouped and had a lunch break. We certainly took in the sights while here and enjoyed the vantage point.

We have always wanted to drive down the Border Track after hearing of peoples fun 4WD adventures on this one way track. Having planned with McLookers and Tomstache to visit the Little and Big Desert today with targeted caches in mind , this was the highlight of the day. With our PSI down to 20 ( maybe could have gone lower) we approached the Vitual location with ease in our Landcruiser. After jotting down the relevant information we then stood back to enjoy the pretty sunset and soak in the magnificent views.
Information emailed.
**Thanks djcache for sharing this great spot with us.**

Heading into the area with the Vic Scout 4x4 Service Unit. We came up here as a fun weekend away and also to check over our cars before heading into the Simpson Desert and other tracks for a month long trip this August. Last time i was here caching a few years back i drove straight past the trig point as there were so many other cars on the track it was hard to stop. Only after i passed it did i notice i missed a cache. This time i was on my list as a must do.

And it was worth the stop. A lovely view from up there in all direction. Thanks for getting us to stop here.

Second time I have been here. Won't be the last. We set off from Pine Hut Soak by ourselves, leaving a group of ten cars we were with the past few days. Left at 7:00 am. and watched the sun rise over the distant horizon. We only got stuck once on one of the biger dunes, couldn't go forward or back, until I let the tyres down a bit more and used a lots more momentum and we were away once more.
Thanks dj awesome cache spot.

Had the Border track to ourselves today. Did not see another vehicle all day, only the local fauna. Thx djcache for the cache. A nice drive

The Border Track was like Parramatta Rd today, as the Victorian school holidays started this weekend and everyone seemed to descend on the place – ironically perhaps to avoid the rush of the coming long weekend.
Just as we were leaving the lookout, two or three different groups totalling about 15 vehicles arrived, and we were to encounter them all again at various times during the day.
As for the cache, an e-mail was fired off to djcache with the required answers and the view and serenity was enjoyed, albeit briefly Twisted.

Visited while birthday-bashing with moderately-old farts. Easily an outstanding feature of this at-times gruelling track, with great views and lame planking attempts that were beheld by all involved Big Grin. TFTVC, djcache.

Once Jimbo had the car park sorted out it was time to get on with the caching. A nice easy cache, but it is really the view that is worth the stop. You can see for miles and miles and miles!

This is a cache that I've always wanted to do, and wasn't ever sure if I'd get the chance to, but with the new Patrol, and great people to do trips like this with, I get the feeling that I'm going to have to start reviewing the caches that I might never get to.

Answers have been sent through.

After not having a 1/5 cache for 7 years who would have thought I would get 2 in one weekend.

Lovely views from here.

#1291 Found this on a tour of the Ngarkat Conservation Reserve with DazzPete. Our caching companions had been here 12 months previously but missed some caches along the way....thus the idea for this subsequent trip was borne. Had beaut weather however there were heaps of people out and about this weekend meaning that some of the approaches on the Border Track had been scalloped out make for some very bumpy travelling. Still it was well worth it with some fantastic country to be seen. When we arrived at GZ there were 3 cars & heaps of people - we weren't sure how they all fitted back into their vehicles when they left. TFTC djcache - top spot - answers have been emailed. Cheers [^]

Found while on a 4wd trip with a bunch of non cachers , for this one They were told on the 2 way " I'm stopping at the top of the hill " to my surprise our little group stopped and made the short walk to GZ to admire the view .
I have been wanting to do this track now for some years and was well worth it , loved it and the sand hills for the car !
Didn't get a chance to find Tops Mug cause were were on a Cannon Ball Run through the desert but did get within 250 mtrs of it .
Thanks for the cache and challenge djcache and already looking forward to coming back with a caching group .

Finally we can tick this one off our list of to do caches. Thanks for taking us out there and seeing this track. Answers are in an email.
Had a great time in Ngarkat and went up all the hills the hard way. Sometimes a couple of times as we didn't make it the first time.
Cheers from the Posspet Boys
