Headed out with Jax0109 for an afternoon doing the Brush Creek, George Downes loop. Some magic history and spectacular views. Great day with a couple of the grandkids treasure hunting.
Guinness can is still in the most obvious hiding place. Cork filled cover and pencil located at the base of the rocks/wall looked very much like the remains of a geocache.
thanks for the cache

Stopped on our way to the Wollombi Wood chopping competition. Couldn't find the cache but there was an unopened can of Guinness in the most likely spot. Could the have been taken...?
Set up camp at Wollombi, had a late lunch at the tavern, then headed out to grab a few caches.
We enjoy caches placed near historical sites, so we can learn about the history.
Looked in the obvious spot for this one, but came up empty handed.
So, no luck for us today in locating this one, hopefully it's not missing.
Many thanks for showing this area to us, Riptide.

A quick stop on our way to the Hunter.
Found the one up the road and stopped here too. Quick find however caches camo's peeling off slowly. Still a good hide.
Cache was found and is in suprisingly good shape considering its age.
Thanks Riptide

This is why we love geocaching. It makes you stop and look and something you would normally drive past. Quick find. TFTC
Thee was some nice workmanship on show here. After taking some time to check the place out I found the cache.
On a motorcycle ride from Melbourne, following the Aust Speedway champs, I picked up this cache. tftc.

Had planned to get this way back in 2007, but our hiking June long weekend expedition was called off due to the extreme storms and expected flooding that would be occurring in this area. Backk today to check out the nearby trig station. Did crawl through the culvert tunnel
Good coordinates, so left a Correct Site Marker - surgical marking pen. Oh yeah, dried out the log book, as it was rather damp. Left trackable: Travel Bug Racer 80s Corvette, no sign of the listed one
Brought through for mileage: 12-12-12 Event, 3 Bros NSW, Auckland NZ'13, B 2 B Travel ingot, Iconic Bridges 2012, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, NZ Mega 2013 GCookie Coin, and trackable shirts.

Found with paulyman on our way back from visiting the Hunter Valley this weekend. These old convict built culverts are very interesting. Took the TB, TFTC.
Raced upto this one near sunset. Interesting little structure and culvert. Nice cache, swapped some bugs and was off to the next one.

Ozvixen out of the car as soon as we pulled up excited to check out the culvert while I took a bit longer to read the hint. Suggested, while she was mid way back up the hill, that she exit the other side and get the cache that I could see it from my vantage point, at the same time.
Found on Day 2 of Central Coast road trip with mizmaz. TFTC!

Cache find #2970
Hides in areas like this one are the reason we love caching! We probably wouldn't have stopped here if there wasn't a cache here. There are a fasinating insight into our convict past. TFTC

414 - Funnily enough I hadn't planned this one - I saw the spot and thought 'surely there would be a cache there!' and I wasn't disappointed! Thanks Riptide!
The third on geomum's escape from the kids! Kept playing tag team with cyclists on this stretch of road - they were probably wondering why I kept stopping! Tftc
Another good cache Riptide. Thanks for forcing us to get out of the car and have a closer look at these historic landmarks. Took a Snoopy toy, dropped a Neck Lanyard. TFTC.
Beautiful construction. It's amazing what was done without modern machines and equipment. TFTC
The coordinates are great for this one. Right on. CJ and I found the cache quickly. TFTC
Quick and easy find!!

The second cache on our hot trip out west. After we walked all over, the GPS showed us things were easier than we thought. We were soon logged and back to the airconditioning. Thanks for the hide way out here.
This was the second of these structures we found caches at along this road today, reminding us of the history of the road upon which we were travelling. Thanks
Another lovely old culvert to view after finding the cache. Certainly glad we chose this road to drive home, it was a lot more scenic than the F3!
Thanks Riptide

A lot of convict history on this road! Interesting to see what was all build in those early years!

Found today at 4:00pm. Had plenty of hot water in our thermos, so washed out the container and some of the contents. We threw out the very sticky lollies, which had caused some of the goo!
Unfortunately it was raining so we didn’t clean the cache which needs it. A nice area visited but when I retrieved cache container it had a leach standing to attention, me & leaches don’t mix. TFTC / TFTH / SL
And it was raining! Again! Cache probably needs a good clean out as there is a green goo in it. Could not do it because it was pouring. TFTC
Great hide. Tunnel was a bit creepy. I got attacked by multiple leaches so be weary
A quick and easy stop on the way towards the In Extremis cache up the road. Found the cache, checked out the site.
TNLNSL, thanks for the cache Riptide.
best wishes,

Another fantastic spot for a cache with some great history. In the darkness it was originally hard to see what was happening but then all became clear. TFTC!
Happy New Year.

Quite an easy find, sent my fiancé to find it. Left a non-perishable sweet, took nothing but blew bubbles in the wind that another cacher left. Absolute magic.
This was another quick find along this fantastic historic road. I expect that on the weekend this road would be very busy; at least today it was quite. Exchanged swaps thanks.
Reperio at 1350. What a fantastic spot. Certainly wasn't expecting anything as historic as this, so took great pleasure in crawling into the culvert and reading up on the history of this area.
Gratias.

Did not attempt more than a DNF. Whilst Chip and I drove both up and back down this road there was a father and daughter sitting right on GZ eating lunch.
Damn! We did not even get out of the car either time!

Out geocaching with the spikeymikey and he pounced on this one before minichef with his new e-trex toy could get his bearings or for that matter, before I got anywhere near it. I think I was taking the scenic route down I was that far away!
Found quickly. There is great history all about this Convict Trail.

I enjoyed viewing the convict built walls along this road and elsewhere. Quickly found, log only, thanks for the hide.
Another interesting about history - too dark for me to see or took some photos... Took Trackable and SL. Thanks Riptide
Found this cache on way to 50th birthday bash in Wollombi. Loved the convict history lesson.

Now IN the Hole would have been cool... but rather short lived after some rain hehehe. As it was it was slippery enough! Clever blokes those convicts Cheers!
Rated: for Overall Experience
found this one with the clue. An interesting drive over the watagans after a bit of rain. Came across a wombat on the road that stood there and let us take photos of it. Amazing wall with an amazing hole built into it.
Found it this time. Checked out the stonework on the bridge and that tunnel. Think of all the hours and blisters that went into making that. Took some stickers, left a finger toy.
What a great effort to build that all those years ago.
TNL Ship in a bottle. Thanks again.

What a moment for the GPS to have a moment! Got to the general vicinity then GPS froze. Tried to look based on the clue and previous logs, but no luck.
Will be back sometime in the future - such a cool drive from Wisemans Ferry.
Very damp while we were there. Little Red Shoes managed to pick up a few leeches in the search, no salt on hand but managed to find them before they attached, so no dramas.
