The site is now inaccessible by law. People shouldn't be encouraged to venture in. It does look like a great place to have a cache but unfortunately the rules in the area have changed.
Yeah signs are new as of today and a warning sign of unexploded bombs around the area.
Found on Flippers Anniversary adventure. Mookie was singing hey Geronimo and bombs away all the way out to this one. We parked on the road and walked in.......... Say No more but we survived the adventure.

Found today and thus the last smiley face for woomera thank you to all cacher's; in the end I have seen and found out more about the area thanks to the hunt.
After completing our 2nd trip around Australia, we are now heading towards Alice Springs.
Left the caravan at Pimba road house, and headed for Roxby Downs and beyond.
Glanced at the sign, and without a second thought for our safety, we continued along
the rough track with pot holes that looked more like sink holes.
Had a walk around the area with amazement, at what would have went on here.
The cache was found quickly, and in good condition.
Many thanks for the hunt today, Gumby37.

I was headed up to Port Augusta for a kayak event but somehow afterwards I forgot to stop driving.
1,700kms later and after 83 smileys including 1 FTF were locus cache'd, 1 event attended and sadly 7 DNFs and a dead roo, I arrived back home with both the camera and the phone full of pictures of this amazing country in which we live .
Oh boy, this was an interesting journey in here.
There were holes in the track that just seemd to drop into nothingness, possibly from the recent massive rains.
Then the ground was soft and the stones covering it were slipping around, so all in all a fun drive compunded by the uncertainty as to whether I was going to be in trouble for being here or not! However, there was a cache here to be had and had it was
So, I got in, got out and no bombs exploded any where near me [^]

Quick find then hightail out just in case the CO is wrong in reguards to the warning signs TFTC
Took the CO's comment regarding the sign on trust (after all Groundspeak checkers are pretty strict on these details) & boldly went where others have gone before. Spotted a few emus & took a couple of photos of the "other" ground zero too.
Interesting history here -- I assume and couldn't really see that any dangerous bits are still around. The cache wasn't exactly where we thought it would be but some circling around turned it up just fine. Thanks Gumby37
Suggest moving the cache due to the warning signs stating keep off heavy fines apply and not to touch anything laying around as it might be live!!!!!!! It would be tragic if anyone got injured or fined.
Cheers from the Burton's

We missed the turn off for here and had to do a U turn, but unfortunately missed the warning signs stating keep out, heavy fines apply until we stopped to read on the way out. We ended up rejoining the dirt track after going cross country.
Quite the interesting place.
Cheers and thanks for the cache

This one was a surprise. I didn't realize that this structure was here. I love this sort of history. Arrived on sunset.

The track looked reasonable, so I drove my SV6 Commodore to GZ without a hitch. Love the bird nests! TFTC.

After settling down at Woomera Caravan park, in spite of hot weather today, we still hunted a few around the countryside...a bit concerned about driving there because of the warning sign but we didn't want to waste the long drive so we went ahead... some kangaroos were hopping out of the old concrete shed Mr Bushies2 found it with help from the previous logs. Thanks Gumby37.
Agree with 20m comments, but as you are getting close, you should be ok. Left ten-sided dice, took smiley face. TFTC! For info, the very first trials at Woomera were carried out here, at what then called Range "A" They were parachute trials from Lincoln bombers in 1948. :0)
After having travelled over most of the range at some point in time this was one side I had never been too.

Just returning to Tassie after visiting our son who has just relocated to Roxby Downs. Grabbed this cache on the way back to Woomera. Bit hesitant to head over there in the campervan but got there no worries. A quick find and an interesting bit of local history. Thanks.
... soo ... this is legal, yes!?
Anyway, interesting location! thanks for bringing us here!

We've seen this place a few times as we have driven passed but never went out to have a look becasue of the sign. Even today we felt a little uneasy but really hoped that the cache page was correct.Once at gz we headed off and located the cache which fortuantely didn't take long and then headed back to examine the structures in more detail trying to imagine what this area must have looked like whilst the tests were going on. There were no roos to say hello to today so we simply headed off towards the next cache
Thanks for the cache

Interesting site, I liked the way the birds have made nests in the ceilings

Found on a boys weekend heading up to Coopers Crossing with Parrot and Skippy. Grabbed on the detour part of the trip via Wommera to Roxby Downs only to have to turn around and head back to Port Augusta and then up to Marree the other way, only to have to turn around (AGAIN) and come straight back due to a another closed road. Damn, no ferry crossing this trip. Cooooool Bunker, with lots of swallows in residence.

We are a geo-family from Roxby. Today we spent a few hours caching around Woomera. This was our first cache of the day and found it after a pretty sound look. New to our GPS and it telling us the cache was 20 m from where we found it (my fault not the GPS). Anyway we found the cache by luck. TFTC
Cache is about 20m out of whack, but found in the end ok.

Looks like we followed MeDaCa here too! A long hike in (968m about) as we didn't find the track until later. Very windy and stony to walk on. No Bombs here today tho.

2030hrs - We tried making it before dark but the light was fading fast. Lucky it was almost full moon so we had some moonlight to help us find this one - we'll be getting a torch for our car. Left a red dice and took liberty coin.

After finally finding the approach road we headed out to this cache, the tower is about 1km from the road, and we were glad we had a 4WD, although it was in 2WD, the road was very soft, located the cache easily and took a couple of photos in the dying light.

Central Australia Trip. 17. I was out here late in the afternoon, and it seemed like a very busy time of day on the highway. It is so flat, all I could think of was someone coming out to see what I was doing. The track was way too rough for my little car, so I walked most of the way. I am glad I got to visit the old tower and bunker. Thanks.

2nd for the day. I hardly think its 250 metres. More like 1250 metres. We had a tumble off the bike on the way in, fortunately a slow speed, soft tumble. No damage done. Easy find around 1330 hrs. Mrs Bundy was having kittens, going past the sign. I think she thought ASIO, or the FBI were going to come and get us.
Cheers

Thanks Team Astro for advice me where the access to the cache.
Gee we broke the law to go thru the field at bombs area anyway we found and she replaced the cache for you. Thanks for the hunt.
I wish I had have read Astro's log before going to look for this one.
Went for a bit of a walk along the track after a night of pouring rain and thought this will be ok.
Unhitched the trailer and in I went. Well for 192 metres anyway. Then bogged the Nissan. Had a go at getting it out but it was well and truly stuck. Organised a recovery from Olympic dam and made a cup of tea whilst we waited. Decided to go back and have another go after all I have had lesson from some of the best in SA. Although at this time they would have be lining up to spank me.
Put all that knoledge together from Skippy, Beaker, Astro, Bruce, GPS to name a few and came up a winner.
Mrs Parrot was delighted to see me backing down the track in a very muddy 4WD,
We then headed off to Olympic Dam to intercept the recovery vehicle and met up with them a few kilometres outside Roxby.
That could have been a very expensive DNF.

There was great debate before we passed the signs. Interesting location. Thanks for bringing us here.
The post is empty. The sign describing large fines and imprisonment at Her Majesty's pleasure is now missing from the post at the turn off. Note, there are plenty of signs else where. You beauty, permission to enter.
Interesting location. According to the 250k Auslig map the cache is approximately 250m outside the prohibited zone. Hema Desert Tracks shows a similar position.
Go figure. Fun cache in the rented sedan. Gee these Japanese cars are good.

Risked the imprisonment/fine and drove the 2wd in (certainly more than 250m) was glad for the hint as co-ords were 20m away, but then again hiding spots were limited!

Gday,
As the owner of the cache can I suggest that you contact the WOOMERA DEFENCE BASE Administrator?, He is stationed (obviously) at WOOMERA, I cannot recall the number but it may be lised under BAE at WOOMERA. If not try someone there at WOOMERA they'll have his number!!
He is a very approachable fella and his name is Gary CLARKE. I think if you contact him and explain the situation he may be able to arrange something...
My only suggestion is to remember that he holds a high ranking military position in charge of the largest live fire test area in the world...and that WOOMERA and the prohibited area are still officially a defence base..
thanks

I have noticed a number of logs indicate this cache is on private property. I am disabling it until I get confirmation from the owner that the cache is on public land.
Found by Team Piggy.
A very interesting spot with an interesting history.
I was very concerned about the placement, whilst a great cache, its clearly approx a kilometre within a commonwealth prohibited area. this could end up getting a finder who passes the boundary a very hefty fine and possibly even worse.

In answer to Piggy’s question, this one IS within the Woomera prohibited area by about 1000m - and there’s no trees to hide behind Being authorised to be there allowed me to have a leisurely look around after finding the cache. The coords had me about 20m away (with 4m accuracy), but the location was obvious enough. Had no swaps with me, so TNLN. Thanks Gumby
