Logs
One of my target caches for the trip because of its age. Nice to log a classic cache. FP given
Cache 1710 Still in Dunedin working on my mountain Dog challenge and todays summit was Swampy, the Leith saddle track was the recommended trail to take with the dog, the manicured part of the track at the start is quite steep then once off that its a sloppy slippery track till you hit the spur. There was light rain and enough wind to make the trek up bitter but once at the top the sun shone and kept me warm for the return trek. Quick find at GZ and fresh new log book cache is in great shape T4TC
Maintenance completed as per earlier log, relocated with revised coordinates - all good to go
Coordinates changed from:S 45 48.060 E 170 29.803Coordinates changed to:S 45 48.057 E 170 29.798Distance from original: 28.1 feet or 8.6 meters.Coordinates updated
Contents of the snaplock container saturated. Outer container is full of spider webs (and a blinking large spider!)
Found, and signed on a piece of paper that I added to the inner container.Found as part of the Rambler's Reward Challenge
Log book was nice and dry. Cache wasn’t quite where I expected it to be but pretty close by
Up on a maintenance trip with Starjammer, the younger is always sent in to retrieve a cache… Good to finally log this after many trips up the slope. TFTC
Great location. Found the cache, but not sure if it was in its intended location relative to the remnants of the trig. The ammo box lid hadn't been secured properly and was full of water - contents now secure but soggy.
Had another go at this on the way back.Read through a log that gave me an idea and eventually located the cache. Many thanks.
A day adventure up Silverstream. After walking down and back up the Rain Gauge Spur Track I decided to carry on up to Swampy for a look even tho it was a little foggy. A nice quick find here and looks like the weather is clearing. Great views from up here TFTC
Very nice to see a cache of this age with still the original logbook. May it last for many more years to come. Reasonably straightforwarded find, then onto the battleship!
It was difficult to dodge all the prickles around here but I spotted the most likely looking hint object and there it was. Thanks
Somehow we missed this one when picking up the others on this trail, so today was the day to find it. Beautiful day, and surprisingly few people out walking. Managed to avoid most of the prickly things at GZ. Thanks for the walk and the cache!
The non geocachers in the party continued on in the mist while I and a previous finder had a quick search. I soon spotted it. All nice and dry inside. Nice to find a cache that is over 10 years old.
Found with dakotacats on a morning hike in the area. Not too hard a find once you knew where to look! TFTC
Awesome views from up here. I wasn't impressed with the spaniard near GZ and the gorse wasn't much better but the container made up for it. Found with whiskasnz and the caching family from Christchurch (ex Dunedin!). Gets a tick for an old-school cache and a decent walk to reach it. TFTC.
A nice fun hike up the Leith Saddle Track with friends (who have a geocaching account but not used it in a while so signed as family name).
It was time for a bit of a walk initially to the Swampy Spur transmitter to see how I would manage the walk as it has been quite a while since I have done any sort of exercise. I'm blaming the previous two weeks of lousy weather.
It is great to see an old cache still active. I was muttering that thorns do not hurt you when I reached for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.

Quick find but very hot now that we have reached the spur great day with fantastic views. TFTC
Found it with swollibman on our 3 days silver peaks hike. This time it was definitely nicer up here, no snow or life-threatening wind. Thanks for the cache.
Came out here with M@tea in August and made it just as far as the cache site before having to turn back due to the gale force winds. It was too windy to look for the cache and didn't want to risk its contents blowing away. So we walked up here again from Dunedin on our way to Jubilee Hut for the night. Thanks for placing it!
This was our last find on the trail as Baby Rex was getting a bit cranky...definitely her mother's daughter ;p. TFTC!
I read out the clue and PC Sniff pointed. "It will be that one," he said. He was right. A quick find followed by a long sit down with a cup of tea because the spot was just too scenic and the day too beautiful to hurry on. Thanks for placing the cache with such panoramic views of the city and countryside.
Stopped the rot and signed the log. The is the kind of cache I like. Do the hard foot work and be rewarded with a cool container, excellent view without scrambling about in the bushes. TFTC
Finally getting around to logging... I did this as part of the MEGA trip organised by KiwiChris (thanks!) It was about here where we got hit by a gust front, and considered turning back. Luckily after waiting it out for a bit, it settled down. A very pleasant trip. Thanks.
Down here for the mega event, and thanks to evilno9 was signed up to take part on this hike. Probably the best part of the weekend! Nothing like a good hike in some wild weather! Big thanks to Kiwichris for being a fantastic guide, and great to meet some new people.
By the time we got up here, the weather had definitely turned for the worst. The horizontal hail coming in was a bit nasty in the face, but the experience of our guide paid off as after hiding around the corner for a little while to see if the weather would pass, within 10mins we were off on our way again for what turned out to be a great rest of the day. Great spot for a cache, although there wasn't too much in the way of a view today. Still a great spot to be. TFTC

On the way to this cache we were passed by a couple of runners with their dog - how did they do it when I was puff puff puff all the way! Once we got to GZ and had cache in hand, the rain started which quickly turned into horizontal sleet/hail. A quick photo of the nearby trig before We decided to take a break from the bleak weather on the leeward side of the hill - amazing what a difference some shelter from the wind makes. After a short break we decided it was ok to proceed. TFTC and the adventure!
This one was a great old find on a pretty awesome day out. We'd slogged our way up the hill (making pretty good time for a large group) and with the weather not quite making up its mind at any point were unsure of what we'd see when we got here. Turns out we were due for some hail and it came in at quite a rate. All good fun though and thankfully we made the decision to keep going and hope for a change.
Awesome spot, and worth coming back for another time to see what it looks like on a nice day. TFTC

#4216. Number 4 for the MEGA walking group. The hail added to the finding fun. After the log book was signed, was shelthered on the lee side ofthe hill and had some morning tea while we waited to see what the weather would do. The weather had abated a bit during our stop, so we decided to continue (happily the weather got better from the point). TFTC.
Found as part of the group completing the NZ Mega event Swampy Circuit Trek led by KiwiChris with StreetWalkerNZ following behind ensuring we all kept together.
The group met up at our starting co-ordinates and then set off at 9am. There was a question as to how far we would get due to the uncertainty of the weather, however apart from having to shelter briefly from some light hail it turned out to be a rather nice day allowing us to complete the full circuit.
Cache number 4 and it is here that we had the hail, sheltered on the lee side of the hill for a while and then onwards. Thanks for the cache.

As a part of the NZ Mega event a "tramp" was organised and led by KiwiChris to tackle the challenging Swampy Circuit.
We all met up at our starting co-ordinates (cheers for EvilNo9 for the lift) and then set off at 9am.
The weather was the only uncertainty about the day, but apart from a sharp hail storm, it was all perfect.
The terrain was the most challenging, with some long steep climbs and some pretty trecherous
downhill mud slides.
The walk was about 13 km, but felt more due to the terrain, but we completed it all within 6 hours,
with a break for lunch and stopping to find for 12 caches.
All in all a fantastic mini event, a big thank you to KiwiChris, with whom this activity would never
have come together. Took some fantastic photos on route.
Cache did not take to find with 10 active searchers, but weather was taking a turn for the worse so we all sheltered from the hail for 15 mins as the front passed.

This spur is really exposed, a few of us searched around the well trodden rocks and soon a very large ammo can was spied. Good one. After the caching business was completed the weather changed from windy and overcast to horizontal hail. This brief pelting of ice balls, was enough to make us head for some shelter where we bailed up and had morning tea. The leeward side of the spur proved to be the perfect spot to admire the views once the weather phenomenon had ceased and the cloud lifted ever so briefly.
Onto this one next. I was really enjoying the walk up the hill. The muggles that were just ahead of me magically disappeared in the distance. Perfect. Knowing where GZ was one thing. Getting there was another
I finally sorted out a good approach and found the handsome container. I signed the log and dropped in the Hogwild World Famous Travelling Geocoin that likes long walks. Well it has a long walk cache to sit in now. So long, little coin - I have had you too long (Sorry Pigwig )
The views from here were great. I real enjoyed the remote and quiet area. Earns a favourite point from me. TFTC Starjammer
Addendum -: I should note when I was on my way back from the nearby phone tower, there was a couple acting suspiciously around GZ - doing exactly what I was doing to get to GZ. They were sitting right at GZ when I went past. I greeted them but didn't didn't allude about the cache. Methinks it had two visits today

The cache was out in the open on one of the rocks when we got to the trig. We filled it out and put it back where we thought it should have been. Found it with Ravenspore4. TFTC loved the container!
The wind was doing its best to blow myself and the old trig over. At least the gale force Westerly had dried out the track. Collected the log and some nasty gorse before setting out for the next cache. These ammo boxes are great... one size fits all.
A couple of running muggles stumbled across us while we were filling out the log. They asked if we'd found our treasure while they raced past us without stopping. The answer, yes - we found it.
Found with Aoraki Sheep

Dropped in for a maintenance visit, much easier stroll with kids at the age they are now ! A busy spot today, at one point there were 17 people at the trig - gotta love indian summers. All in order, cache standing up well.
Nearly fooled me as the overwhelming shrub at the GZ is a Pseudopanax rather than the described Griselinia.. HOTA
I hadn't fully read the description so I got a bit of a surprise when I saw the container. It was great being able to stop regularly for cache finds on this enjoyable walk. TFTC.
Making good time and enjoying finding the tupperware...TFTC I am counting this towards my Ramblers Reward Challenge cheers.

Guwapo's muggle ninong is visiting. Instead of spending the afternoon with Soduko Papa took him for a walk. Great views all around. Cache found and logged without any trouble. Salamat!
A great spot for a cache, not much light left at 8PMish but Dunners was well lit up, so still a good view. Nice traditional container.
Left a blue carabiner (keyring type, not for climbing!)TNSL

TFTC SL well another great view from here didnt take me long to hike up here took some pictures also, didnt like that horrible spiky plant nasty thing got poked and scrated but found it all in take and good sneaky hide
Nice cache and a great view, well worth the walk. After finding the cache we then had to spend 3/4 of an hour finding the dog who had taken off after some interesting smell or other. Glad caches stay put.
A beautiful and sunny day to be out here and awesome views from groundzero. Still cold enough for there to be frost on the ground at this point. Retrieving the cache was made a little harder because of this and that pesky gorse. TFTC!
[Swirling mist, wind driven drizzle, and thick mud on the track on the way down. All good fun. Out for a training tramp today preparation for rogaining next weekend.] The shrub may have green shiny broad leaves, but it is not a broadleaf.[TFTC]
Good wind blowing up here today! View gets better as we climb. A big cache packed with bits and pieces. Got to watch out for the spear grass. Got a nasty cut above my eye reaching for the cache. Took glow in the dark stickers and a water gun left by our friends the h2O family back in March. Left a vegemite pencil sharpener and a bouncy ball. TFTC.
Late log- was just looking at the map and realised I missed logging it when we visited. Vicky and I took some time to find this one, and resorted to the clue which directed us to the obvious spot. Very glad this spur is still unroaded. 20 years ago there was a proposal to build a broadcasting tower on this spot. The Water Dept of the DCC approved this (that leopard will never change its spots...) and put out a very small resource consent notice very quietly at Christmas. Luckily it got seen- and people started objecting- and we stopped the tower being built.
Popped in again on our way up to Swampy Summit. Cache is in good order - lovely day for a walk.
Took travel bug, left geocoin.
