Time to go?

03-May-08
Having not had time to check out this site before we visited it, we came to the conclusion that it must have been burnt recently after checking all the charred remains. However it brought back many memories for me & will wait with interest to see if it can come back to life as is happening to many of the gum trees here

Hi fellow cachers,

It is with a great deal of sorrow that I formally advise of the demise of "Black Stump"

The bush fire that burnt the area on the 17th January 2008 has claimed not only the Black Stump, but the contents and the cache container.

Despite the valliant efforts of the Incredible Hulk (see picture) the cache was unable to be saved.

I have scouted the area and located a suitable spot to hide "Black Stump Mk 2" only a few metres away so I will endeavour to set this up in the next few weeks.

28-Jan-08
There has been a bushfire at this site we could not find a cache.Fire was ?16/01/08
It needs to be checked by someone familiar with the cache to see if the fire got it.

Find number 1285, Mr MadMyers and I found the cache fairly quickly before heading back to the car for Everlasting to drive us to the next one. Thanks for placing this cache which helped us find 189 today. Cheers The Nanks

15-Jan-08
Out on a long day and night of geocaching adventures with MrTheNanks. Adelaide has so many caches to find that we cached for hours and hours. What a great time we had!! Cache was found, log was signed. Thanks for the cache.

11-Jan-08
Found the cache at 1.05pm. Another so beautiful view, no swap. Thanks Lead 'n Lace for organising the cache and hunt.

18-Dec-07
I had inadvertently started to try from the North before quickly relising my error. MUCH easier from the south! Cache was found quickly but I didn't have my pen and there wasn't one in the cache! Plenty of good drawing material to hand though! However maybe the next finder can leave a pen. Thanks for the cache

16-Dec-07
My second visit. My brother lives in Belair now, so will be passing, quite often. Took the Jeep!

Nice easy find. Couldn't see a writing implement so I didn't sign the book.

This is where I want to build a house! Fantastic view of the city, and beyond.

TNLN

Thanks.

I mde a really bad choice to try to get to here from 30 year views. Don't do it. I ended up very tired with my car still a long way away. I did have some great views and some lovely bush to walk through though, and I discovered something about the local terrain which I hadn't known before. Took a mouse and left a snake. TFTC

18-Aug-07
An easy find on our way to the event tonight!

22-Jul-07
Have been driving past for a long time so we decided to stop this time. Easy find. Everything is in order. Mr Burns is going to do some more travelling.

01-Jul-07
While in the area to do a maintenance visit on "Cockys Joy" we decided to drop in a second TB that has been languishing in the cache bag.
Appologies to the owner of "Mr Burns"
Cheers,
Lead 'n Lace.

26-Jun-07
a pleasant scramble for great outlook. Trickiest part was parking the car... TNLNSL Thanks for the cache

20-Jun-07
Dropped past to do some maintenance on L&L's behalf. Dried out the contents as best I could, but some items are still a little damp, also replaced the cache container. Grabbed the Paracord TB to dry out and move on.

13-May-07
Regrowth is making Black Stump difficult to spot. Found the contents quite wet, tried drying them out while spending a few minutes admiring the magnificent view from this lofty perch.

I tried replacing the cache so that it was less likely to get wet again. The cache container is in need of a new lid.

13-May-07
Found 1.45pm
Nice quick easy find with great views, Thanks L&L.
Container lid badly broken & a lot of contents are very wet. A new container is advised.
Left ParaCord 550 Keychain TB.
Thanks Again

Found with Oenze on day 1 of our caching trip in Adelaide. We had trouble finding where to park for this one but after a short walk we were up there. Thanks for the cache.

Found after a heartstarting climb up the hill. Worth it for the fantastic views though!

Took: junky plastic circle things
Left: butterfly

With Dylanja, what she may have forgotten to mention is that she forgot that driving over traffic cones is against the rules, and had to be reminded by a (not very) nice man in a council shirt that she couldn't go in there...

06-Feb-07
Beautiful clear day, had some trouble with the parking though. What appeared to me to be the usual parking place contained bulldozers and large trucks.
Took golf tees, left bauble.

Great sunday morning walk.
Took bracelet & slinky , left rat & ladybird
the lid on the container is badly damaged , and I would suggst that it be replaced asap.

15-Sep-06
Nice spot...great for a BBQ...and the views...to die for
Thanks L&L

03-Aug-06
Approached this from the north after finding what I thought was a good park. I read the notes on the way in as I saw the looming quarries! I found a well worn yet dangerous looking path to the top. I wouldn't approach from this way at night! Excellent views though! I found a more sedate and safe way back to the car. Thanks for the encouragement to come here.

Great views, great cliffs.........could play here for hours! Cheers

07-Jul-06
Nice view of the city from GZ. TNLNSL

05-Jul-06
WOW !!!! I really don't think we took the recommended approach to this one and the sad story is that we took ages to find the way that we eventually took.

Having said that, it was an interesting and enjoyable amble from Koala Creek to this cache. Aptly named too,,,, there was a very hungry and very active Koala in a tree right near the carpark.

We took the travel bug.

Thanks Lead 'n Lace

EDIT - Wrong Date

What a walk! It was steep and a bit muddy. I don't know how anyone can ride a bike down there, but they do. The way we came anyway. There is a shorter way. The views are great and no-one around. On the way back we saw a large flock of black cockatoos. Big Grin
The cache is packed, but we managed to leave Curious George TB.
The lid is falling to bits. We did our best to hold it in place with a rubberband. That's all we had.
Thanks Lead'n Lace!

It's been many years since I was here, not sure if it still, but the 'climbing' area near used to be known as 'car crash crag', no doubt that sort of behaviour is banned in these more enlightened ??? days. Still bought back a few memories of my long gone youth...Aaah the lazy days in the sunshine, with nothing to worry about but getting home in time to find the dinner Mum's lovingly prepared at home on the table. Throw the smelly clothes you've climbed in all day into the dirty clothes basket (or just leave them where they fall) and magically they reappear cleaned and ironed some days later back in the draw, ready for another of the endless adventures.
TNLNSL Cheers.

30-Apr-06
After the park and walk it was a nice view. And a couple of other nearby caches as well made it a worthwhile trip. Took the Tractor TB to move on.

30-Apr-06
Found with Shonky great day for geocaching.
TNLN
Thanks Lead n lace

26-Apr-06
Second one for the day. i have spent may hours climbing the cliffs just below here so was on familiar ground. Soon bagged this one after enjoying the view. Took nothing left Dusty's Tractor TB. cheers.

10-Apr-06
Found with team minx with no problems. Great view!!! TNLNSL.

10-Apr-06
Found this one with SuznAsh last night. A beautiful view over the city just on sunset. A great location. A note for the next visitors ... the location of cache "Go Fly A Kite" by jsknicholson (GCQK3T) can be seen from this cache. It also appears as though people have been flattening grass on the hill side near "Go Fly a Kite" to make letters ... we are sure that it says something, but can't work out what! Smile

Thanks for the cache ... TNLNSL!

08-Apr-06
Found by braybanks and bb jnr after much stress finding carpark and prior more stress safely exiting onto road! This road is definitely not designed for stopping. Good easy find once we got nearby, and the views are great. took yellow frog, left brown bear (Squeaky). Thanks for the cache.

28-Mar-06
As with the ferretters we decided a hike up the hill from a previous cache would be fun, until we reached the roadside. Attempted again via instructions here and found a much more pleasant walk. Great views!

28-Mar-06
Called by on the way home to drop off the Yellow Jeep TB. Having spent a few hours four wheel driving in the quarry (until Mrs KriKe caught me) I thought the Jeep would be at home here.

25-Mar-06
When it says approach from the south, it really does mean approach from the south. The GPS said it was only 450m west from Koala Creek Chloride (GCC2D8), and we thought that sounded okay. Twenty minutes later, and an increase of 60m in altitude [xx(], still with 160m to go, we decided maybe that wasn't our best choice in today's caching. So we completed the hair-raising descent (that trail was SO not the 1½ star terrain listed on the logsheet!) and drove to the much saner entry point.

It's just a good thing we found it in the end, that's all I can say....Big Grin
TNLNSL.
Thanks Lead 'n Lace, we'll believe you next time!

18-Mar-06
A quick find in an interesting area with some climbs nearby according to my guide. No time to explore them today.

13-Mar-06
[Not feeling at all like caching today. I think probably becaus e of the giant hangover I was sporting from an unhealthy combination of red wine, port and liqueur muscat from the night before. But 3.5 hours later than planned I was walking along the track to this cache. My conversation skills were lacking as I generally only uttered a single two word sentence (the second of which was "Off") as my "CacheBlitz" colleagues EmZee and Baggy piled on the insults, lame jokes and references to my previous evening's behaviour.

Found relatively easily and we put our first commemmorative sticker in the log book.

PS could this cache have been called] A Root with a View [or is that just too obvious?]

13-Mar-06
Nice gentle walk - just took out the bottom of the car getting into the car park. Our son's first find. Took out mondo doll, put in sheep.
Thanks Lead 'n Lace,

First find of the day for Cach Blitz 2006 of Team Langy, EmZee Wild'rs & me of course. TNLN Sore head!! That's an understatement!!

26-Feb-06
A nice gentle walk to find this cache, and some excellent views to be had at the location. Had a look at the nearby valley for future reference for Cocky's Joy, and decided that that one could wait for now. Cache has a split lid, so placed some duct tape on the worst bit, and put all contents into new zip lock bags. Took the gold shackle, left a mondo figure. Thanks L & L.

20-Feb-06
Fourteenth of sixteen finds on my first day in Adelaide. I fluked finding the right place to park. I had stopped there to attempt "COCKY'S JOY", but decided to give it a miss when I read about the 2.4km walk, and the patchy GPS reception. This was the next closest cache on the list. There are great views from the cache site. I found it at 1620. The cache container lid is split, and needs replacing. The log book zip-lock bag is also split. However, the log book and swaps are in perfect condition, despite these problems. Thanks to Lead 'n Lace for the cache.

IN: Yellow karabiner <- note correct spelling
OUT: Tweezers

14-Feb-06
Found by Mary & David at 0850. Peak hour traffic, so it took a while just to cross the road. Found a reasonable approach after one false start. Great views of the city near GZ. Found an easier descent on the way back, and the traffic flow had eased a little. Took slinky, left tweezers. Our thanks to Lead 'n' Lace continues.

13-Feb-06
Walked right up to this one, very effective cache camo though!
Took Keyring, left plastic Slinky.

NB: Cache lid is cracked and logbook bag is split at the bottom.

10-Feb-06
Very easy compared to the joyful cocky. Our daughter helped us get the cache out.
thankyou Lead and Lace.

01-Feb-06
Sorry date is not accurate as forgot to log it on. Really enjoyed this one on a clear night at 11 o'clock

26-Jan-06
I remember seeing a bushfire go through here in 1966. It probably wasn't this Black Stump though. At 11.25h this was the 3rd of 8 for Australia Day. Took - Mini clip. Left - Aussie key ring. TFTC

24-Jan-06
2nd for the day, nice easy one this one. thanks Lead 'n Lace.. onto more you have set! B

08-Jan-06
Easy find on a nice evening. I'm always surprised how many good views of the city there are that people don't know about. Took nothing, left a bracelet.

25-Dec-05
Great Views, Nice walk, no inch ants today... (too wet). TNLNSL thanks again Lean'n Lace.

19-Dec-05
Another on our Lead n lace mini epic. Having climber in the quarry many moons ago had a pretty good idea of where this one might be. A short walk on a sunny afternoon. great views from up here. Took Gonzo and TB, left electronic game.

16-Dec-05
Found a park not too far away and after an initial walk in the wrong direction doubled back and found a better path.
Got some excellent pictures of the city then went and located the cache.
TNLN.
Thanks for a cache with a great view is was fun trying to work out the locations of the other caches on the opposite hills.

14-Dec-05
Found 09:15. Went the veeeerrrryyyyy long way round to this one (Must be tired after my night duty!!!). Once in the right location found with ease (relatively). Took:Coin, Left: Gizmo's Collar. Cheers for the cache.

Today's lesson was check that you have entered the coordinates correctly! In the end it was an easy find. Took Tigger and left Gonzo. Stanleys.

03-Dec-05
With AAT and TJOT (and abowie x2). Impressive Kangaroo grass. Not so impressive flies. Took playing cards and car, left toothpicks and Mrcogeo coin. Thanks Lead n lace.

03-Dec-05
Took crab measurer, left golf tees, signed log.

01-Dec-05
Glad that I put the Gators on for this one as the grass seeds are more than annoying. Along with the flies These should all add to the difficulty level. Did I mention the morning rush hour traffic is also a hazard. Found at 0850 TNLNSL

THanks

Nice place only 700m from home, good walk on a week day evening.

Kept an eye out for snakes have seen plenty this year

Parking??? If I took my lowslung geomobile to that carpark, would be no problem going up, just a problem heading down, especially with the oncoming traffic. Found a lil spot nearby and trekked up the hill...
Great view if you go all the way to the top, probably almost 180degrees of coast, city and suburbia!
Left a patch AND THE FLIES TNSL

Thanks

27-Nov-05
Found at 17:30.
Another one near one of Kevin's archived caches. Where are you *supposed* to park here?
Another nice walk with the dog. Followed the tracks in the grass for a quick find. No swap.

26-Nov-05
So black even the white bits are black. Great view. Thanks Lead 'n Lace

24-Nov-05
After coming in from the south at another entrance to this park and finding ourselves on the wrong side of the gully, we went back to the geomobile and headed to the correct entrance for our 9th and last for the day. Followed Four-fun's tracks of yesterday it seems - he was the last to sign every one of the 9 caches that we have done today. Great views. Left tigger and Klem Bear and took nothing. Thanks Lead 'n Lace.

23-Nov-05
And what do you know, it's a stump as well!!
Nice views too.
- Lion keyring, + Pack of cards.
Cheers.

20-Nov-05
It certainly is black. The views are superb. I can see a couple very expensive houses being built on this property.

20-Nov-05
Followed Freddo's footprints all the way to the cache site. They are the ones with the funny little circular pads on the ends, aren't they??? Cheers!

19-Nov-05
This was my first cache for the morning. Relative easy find. Thanks for a great cache!

15-Nov-05
Given its name, I would have loved to have had a bottle of Bordeaux to leave in the cacheWink. As this one gets more and more found, it’s going to develop quite a geotrail to it. Fully expected to come across a snake on this one. I didn’t, so I left one – in a keyring and took a squishy ball. Another STF after Astro [^]. Thanks Lead ‘n Lace.

15-Nov-05
Another easy find, but with some muggles spending a lot of time with mouths locked together at the fenceline. Surprising for about 2:45 in the afternoon, but they were so engrossed in each other I don't think they even noticed me.

Realised after I started walking could have done this as a drive by from where I started, the first little hill would have been a small amount of fun in low range. Took an army truck and left a whale toy. Thanks Lead 'n lace.

14-Nov-05

A spot ‘ol Kev would have known well (Hi 5’s Kev). Definitely not a night time job. If you can’t see the holes, it doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t there!!

Great views of Adelaide above the ground – I was in a Sun shower as GZ approached – beautiful.
I left some toys and took a role of tape.

My thanx to Lean ‘n Lace once again today for another FTF opportunity.
Clear skies, Astro.
