Logs
I'm from Paihia/Whangarei and I'm down in the South Island for 6 days with NZ_B on a geocaching trip. Logs mostly signed as NZL.I had a few goals for the trip and I was very pleased to achieve them all *50 or 60 puzzles for my diamond badge on project gc*40 caches to get to my 6000th find*19 South Island minutes to complete a challenge*but mostly a clean out of my ever growing solved puzzle list with 157 found on this trip. Monday we collected the windmill geoart on our way to Oamaru. Tuesday the focus was solved A2O puzzles, the sunflowers and other solved puzzles. Wednesday we headed back to Christchurch collecting challenges and more solved puzzles. Thursday's focus was the Smile series around Lake Ellesmere. Friday was the old Port Hills cache and puzzles in the Christchurch area. Today was our last day. Again a puzzle focus around the outer Christchurch area. I did know what I was Giraffe -ter here =another smile puzzle. Found with a giraffe and my giraffe loving friend. Thanks for another puzzle

After an evening biking-caching fun in the forest, it was time to head home. Just one last stop planned - here, but in the car now.
The puzzle was interesting - hadn't done one quite like that. Refreshing change after all the jigidi puzzles. I managed to do it in my head, but boy, it was a bit of a challenge, without actually seeing a complete image and trying to just arrange the pieces by just starting from the corners and then just figuring out one by one where they go, but with no easy way of actually checking if I had the previous ones right.
I almost needed to resort to printing out when my numbers were not aligning in the end but managed to spot the mistake. Only needed swapping two adjacent numbers with each other.
Cache all good!
Kia ora! Paldies!
Thanks for the cache, geokat nz!

I was with Itchyfeet2020 and TwigNZ when we signed this cache. They both know I am a lover of giraffes, and this was the reason they brought me here. I’m solving this case. I have learnt a couple of new things about calculators and solving problems. I don’t want to say anymore because I do not want to give it away to other locations. Attached is a photo of one of the giraffes in my collection.
The day after the ‘Insane 200 Day’ and it is a slightly slower day - more about finding caches we are targeting and attending two events. Logs signed TINT.

I've been in the Garden City with Itchyfeet2020 and NZ_B for the weekend, and what a weekend it has been! Cumulatively we had targeted so many personal challenges, individual caches we wanted to get, 'things' we wanted to do etc, that teaming up with these two caching troopers has been one of the best things I've done in ages. We've achieved so much in our short time here that my mind (and body) is still reeling. I'm sure the enormity will still be sinking in for many days to come.
All our signing of logbooks this weekend has been as T.I.N.T (for Team Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, and TwigNZ) regardless of how many of the 3 of us are claiming any particular cache (as some of us may have found it previously).
This particular cache was targeted by NZ_B due to the nature of the subject matter. So was I happy to help find it? Does the Pope wear a funny hat? An easy find at the calculated co-ords, once we were looking in the right tree. Everything was nice and dry here, so once we had signed the logbook I left my friends to get some photos with Geoff the Giraffe who had been our lucky mascot for this trip
Thank you for setting up this puzzle

NZ_B, TwigNZ and I have come to Christchurch to complete a number of shared and individual challenges. Today - day 4 is another run at 50 (we need 8 days of over 50), and I wanted this oldie. Puzzle solved by printing out the jigsaw and working out the math, thank you, that was fun. All good here today, cache was found with Geoff the Giraffee's help. All caches signed as T.I.N.T for Team Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B and TwigNZ. TFTC
I too cut out and did this
Jigsaw style many months ago, but after a couple of visits and no joy, virtually gave it up. Coconuts3 spurred me on to give it another go but we needed to tweak the E co- ords. That done, the cache was found. TFTC and the interesting puzzle.

What a fun puzzle, confess to printing and cutting out to fill the grid. Had a tiny doubt with one set so had 3 possibilities but went to try. Became obvious once on site only one would work yeh. Found what we were after . So appropriate when a new baby Giraffe was born here. Thanks for a fun puzzle and the cache geokat.nz.
We had solved this quite some time ago but when we first visited a year ago we had entered a digit wrong. Oops! Even though we were actually very close it turned out we did not get it that time. Today, with the correct coordinates, we made a quick find. TFTC!
Tregearp and I knew we were visiting Chch and so had a look at some puzzles before coming down. Like others we soon had three potential solutions but given we haven't liven in Chch for over 20 years were no further ahead. This afternoon we parked the car and realised we likely to be quite close. After plugging the coordinates into the GPSr we are dismiss two of the solutions and that we were around 30m from the other. The cache itself was a quick find, and pleased to find it in excellent condition after a good break between finds. Signed log and replaced as found. Thanks geokat nz for the cache.
It was a little too challenging sorting the pieces out in my head but I had a lecture to lesson to online so and a new pair of scissors so a fairly quick task. Started the puzzle then had to head to a meeting so SJT_NZ completed the jigsaw and got some options for coordinates, there was some debate if they were 6's or 9's. In the area heading for some exercise and had read previous logs so 3rd option provided best expectations. After a short search found cache and it was in exceptional condition. Thanks geokat_nz for the fun puzzle.
Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.
With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...
There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!
1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...
We really wanted to explore the trails around McLeans Island today. Unfortunately, a training exercise was in full progress, and the police wanted us out of the way. We were lucky to collar some caches in the vicinity. This puzzle was one of our finds - No problem with this hide. Thanks geokat nz. TFTP and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with EyeSpyBen we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

18 January 2020 5:23 PM. Solved ages ago but needed an older placed puzzle for a challenge cache so went on a hunt for the requirements. Glad got MacPacSon to check the BODMAS before I left as one coordinate was out with my maths! Glad of geocheckers these days. TFTC geokat nz
That was a fun puzzle and as we knew we were going to be in this area we made sure that we stopped to make the find. Many thanks for the puzzle and the cache
This puzzle was solved literally year’s ago, before corrected coordinates were in the system. Luckily when they came in the puzzle was recalled and the coordinates changed to ones where a cache would be. Today it was the unexpected first find for the day when we realised were driving past. Very happy to stop and make the find at last. Corrected coordinates and paperless caching have huge advantages.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I have had this one solved for ages but never got around to picking it up. Today, after cyclocaching nearby, I stopped by to make a quick find. TFTC.
Caching in the area, and the Giraffe-ter was quickly found.Nice to have it off our list..TFTH
Out and about for a half day caching adventure with daughter to collect a few, never mind the rain! I had this one waiting to be found, so we stopped by to collect. This one is getting quite old, over a decade now! TFTC!!
Solved the puzzle last night after planning a visit to Steam Scene and McLeans Island and found on the way home. A nice hide and all in good order. It wasn't until I came to log that I realised that this cache is a real oldie! I bet the 'kids' in the description are all grown up now! Tftc!
Solved a few days ago but today's the first opportunity to get out this way. Nice to walk straight to it. Thanks for the cache.
Paddle chick and I were out caching for the day ,we searched for a while pc finally spotted it tftc geokat nz
A joint effort on this one, Nanzie did the jigsaw and I got numbers out of it. Found together. Thanks for the cache geokat nz

My mission is my first 3 day tramp on Stewart Island. The Seagnoid has Xmas off so we are off on an epic adventure with Zara around the South Island. Toby gets dropped off for his nose job so we are hanging around Christchurch for a couple of days with Zara. Giraffes are on my radar for today so we are heading for Orana Park.
Puzzle solved and cache bagged and tagged. cheers.

TaybeeDragon and I are off for a three day walk on Stewart Island. But we have a camper, so once you add in getting there and back, it's a three week trip. Day 4: Akaroa to Christchurch.
Off to Orana park while we wait for Tuesday to come around. And now we are caching while we wait for Orana to open. Still haven't worked out what this cache title refers to. Some bits yes, but the whole - no idea.

Wow, a year since last found! Got this one signed and sorted after riding the trails at McLeans Island. Nice one, TFTC
Must have got something wrong here as a search of my GZ failed to come up with the goods.
Managed to end up with a working set of coordinates without too much effort in time for the planned mega bike ride earlier this morning, so once the group was starting to go their separate ways I ambled over to this one to have a look. No issues with making the find here, and another fun puzzle down. TFTC
Found after the McLeans Island bike trip during NZMEGA15. I enjoyed solving this puzzle but came out with 3 possible solutions due to having issues with the 6's and 9's but once in the right vicinity an obvious location became clear.
I was off to MacLeans Island to meet up with a few others for a bike ride. This one was on the way and I was a tad early.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
This puzzle has been in my solved pile for a long time. Was heading out this way with the family so decided to stop by and find the cache. Didn't take long to sign the log. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache.
We were planning a trip to Orana Park- so worked this one out earlier in the week. Love it when the gps takes you straight to the right spot- especially since I wasn't 100% sure I had them right!! Went on to have a lovely time at the park. Thanks geokat nz
Loved crossing this one off the list. Warfi did all the hardwork and we went straight to the cache followed by a good day at the park. Thanks for the challenge.
I thought I had worked the puzzle out a few years ago, but when I went to find the cache the coords put me somewhere that would be unwise to go caching. After checking my workings I found I had mistaking a plus sign for a divide sign so reworked the equation. Easy find with the correct numbers. TFTC
Need a D for a kiwi alphabete challange, and we found one! The puzzle was a great rememberence practise. TFTP and greetings from Sweden!
Decided to work on some older caches so I could complete the decadent century challenge. Solved at home and headed out to GZ with 3 possible coords (depending on how one interprets the 9's or 6's). Once there it wasn't hard to figure out which was correct. Thanks for the fun puzzle and hide.

Finished work, and had a card to call from the courier of something to pick up... woo hoo I thought, and went to go claim it... however was quite disappointed to find that it was something someone else had ordered, but annoyingly put my name on!! Grr... so after driving out all that distance, decided I may as well find a cache out airport way.
This was one I solved quite a while ago. Easily too. I love maths, so no way that tripped me up! And I love puzzles too!! But time to actually go and find it! It's also the furtherest away cache that's still covered in my 1000 caches closest to home!!
Came out, and spent a while trying to find the right spot. But once I expanded the area, I spied the cache straight away. YUS!

Spent a happy morning of our holiday cutting up giraffe puzzle! Got confused first by the maths (quickly sorted) and then by the 6s and 9s (not so quickly sorted)! First location was clearly wrong so on another visit I had recalculated the possible coordinates and one seemed a clear winner. Headed there and cache was quickly in hand. Enjoyed this a lot. Thanks for placing.
I was in need of a puzzle cache that started with D for the Z to A challenge and this one looked ideal. I bit of manipulation of the puzzle pieces in Photoshop and soon the numbers were revealed. Fortunately, the calculations gave me reasonable looking numbers and the next day the cache was in hand. Fun puzzle to solve and great to find one of the older puzzles in Christchurch. Cheers for the cache!
Nosynel did all the hard work but did drive her out here and find it. Cool hide I come here every 2 weeks with work and never knew it was here. Lol
I think the giraffes would like it in here. I enjoyed doing the puzzle. I completed it during the big storm when I was stuck indoors earlier this week.
Solved this one a few years back but failed to find the prize when I looked back then. Was in the area today and managed to find it as suggested after slightly widening my search area. TFTC, #6284
963 - Wow this puzzle brought back such happy memories. We spent many, many hours feeding giraffes, lions etc my sons were growing up. We used to be able to drive in to feed the lions and they loved that, although one son really loved feeding the giraffes. I admit I still do! Puzzle was quickly sorted quite some time ago but it has been a while now since I've driven down this road. Cache was quickly spotted one there though and it's nice and dry. TFTC.
Had completed the puzzle a long time ago but did it again the other day to confirm the numbers (had lost the little cut out pieces at some point). Last cache on our way home and glad to get this one for the D cache Chelzea and I need for the A-Z Challenge. Been in to the park a couple of times but always a little disappointing compared to overseas zoo's. Thanks for the different puzzle and cache hunt.
Fun little puzzle, have solved awhile ago but don't come around these parts too often. Had a couple of possible GZs chose one over the other and got the goods. TFTC SL, and TNLN.

I solved this one a long time ago, before the Feb quake I think, but somehow haven't been out here since. Made it my mission today. Found reasonably quickly, might have been quicker if I'd approached from the other direction. Cache in good condition, does not apart to have been affected by the snow etc we've had since the last find.
Thanks for the puzzle - think its the only one like that I've come across. [:-)]

Out and about on a fmaily afternoons adventure. Passing by so stopped off for a quick find. Great wee puzzle in a nice wee spot. Thanks for the effort involved in creating and placing.
I just love puzzles that link to gz as nicely as this one does. Good one. Coords spot on for an easy find. TFTC
TFTC. Gosh, these numbers just didn't see to work for me, so I decided just to get out there and have a look. Was where it made caching sense to be. I have liberated the TBs and will move them on soon. This was a novel and enjoyable puzzle.
Great idea for a puzzle - it was probably the quality of our printer that made it a challenge
Infact it one of the first puzzles ever solved when we started Geocaching about a year ago - As with many the information was lost / misplaced along the way . It was found recently so spurred us on to have another look. We came across in an old file when we did caching on paper only ! With potential co-ordanates in hand and while heading off to Yellow Submarine cache was soon dispatched by Little G
Thanks LGM

I got meeshell to complete the puzzle, which she enjoyed - although she is used to doing much bigger puzzles. I was a bit suspicious of where my coordinates looked like they were, but today at GZ everything came together for an excellent find. Dropped 2 TBs and a GC. TFTC (375)

I worked out this puzzle lest night, and Bartneck and I with our GeoYounglings came out today to take in the biking awesomeness nearby. We stopped here first, and the kids had a lot of fun searching for the treasure! B's GeoYoungling #1 made the find, and we took a Smirf and left a ring. Nice idea for a "puzzle" cache!

This was one of the first puzzle caches I attempted. I 'solved' it a while ago, but only managed to get out there today. Only to find it couldn't be where I calculated it to be! A quick re-check and the error was spotted (I thought a 9 was a 6). Then easily found while dodging falling branches in the wind. TFTC.
(435) I thought I had this worked out quite a while ago however went to GZ and decided I had it wrong.. After a rework with the math have come back for another look.. And there it is.. TFTC, SL. Also picked up the TB.
Enjoyed the puzzle puzzle back in Auckland. One of many we solved prior to our trip to Christchurch, and this was the first of them we collected. Nice hide. Thanks.

printed and cut out, then assembled. The 6's and 9's took a little backtracking.
Found with farrow4 (although I am sure it was on the 21st), and it is still raining.
Took crusader card, rubber ducky,
Left yellow thing, smurf

Second cache found, finding hard without GPS. Fun though. Kids liked it and we live close by so new roughly where to look. thanks
Interesting one to pull together, and the memories of solving these equations from school days. Looks like a little bit of renovation has occurred at the site but cache still nice and safe. Thanks for the time put into this one.
We doo now,bit of a problem with the printer running low on ink and only printing in gray made puzzle harder but got there in the end.TFTC

We do now... Solved puzzle last year, but missed out in January. Drove up to GZ and thought we didn’t have chance, as all the trees have been recently pruned. With a shout of encouragement from the knowledgable neighbour, “It’s still thereâ€, Yeetrees soon had the cache in hand. Many thanks for the fun.

Easy to pickup and normally I would have said, "Good spot." However the keepers are a little concerned that this is a bit too close to the guard dogs, during the hours of darkness. I wouldn't have mentioned this except for the last log. I am a regular vollie at the institution and as you might guess they are quite sensitive to unusual behaviours. Please note this is not an official comment, I am not an administrator. The trees as noted have been all but destroyed. Thank you.
Gave the puzzle to my navigator on the way out here, she solved it and gave it back for me to do the maths. Had a great birthday walk around the park, then stopped here on the way home. There was a note in the logbook: "26/7 Found by Orana staff while trimming trees. Hope we haven't spoiled your game!". The nearby trees were looking rather bare, but the cache is still well-enough hidden.
And this is my 600th cache! It's good to be speeding my count along after a few slower years overseas.
And this is my 600th cache! It's good to be speeding my count along after a few slower years overseas.
Quick grab, the trees have had a real prune, cache has been found by park staff, they left a log, Saying they hoped they have not ruined the game.

The jigsaw puzzle was the hardest bit!
Had 3 possibilities with the East co-ords, but using google earth plus the name of the cache meant one co-ord was the obvious one. Nicely hidden.

Very nice puzzle-cache. We visited the wild-life park after we had found the cache, nice park.

Enjoyed the puzzle and found with friends and their kids. Tree cover may have influenced, but coordinates might have been a bit off? Took Eat Meet and Greet geocoin.

Doo you know what Giraffe-ter? Yep! But we still couldn’t find it… search cut short, as we were running late with our trip to Hanmer Springs.

Did the puzzle a few months ago and got to the cache today after doing steam scene. TFTC
Found even though our maths was not very accurate we got enough to put us in the right direction. Thanks for the puzzle . TFTC TNLN
Had to relearn to BODMAS maths to solve. The numbers all seem to be correct so we went out for a drive to confirm. The cache was soon quickly found. TFTC
Very cool "Puzzle" cache [^] I think I worried a little too much when trying to distinguish between the 6s and 9s, but in the end got it right first time. Quickly found the cache TFTC
Finally! Didi the puzzle about a year ago and always intended to do this one along with the cycle track one at McLeans Island forest and more recently Steam Scene. As it happened it took 3 visits to get all three due to an excessive muggle population on Sunday and poor maths yesterday. Had a better look today and, yes, my maths was out 128m! I pride myself on my maths, too!

Nice little puzzle made tricky by doing it without printing the jigsaw. Workman at the nearby Zoopoo sheds did not give us a second glance. That is the beauty of having a bunch of kids with you. Kids like to dwell in trees too sometimes.
