Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Initially I took a photograph from the bottom of the hill, but then scale set in. I was looking at a miniature hill, so I walked up it. A short, easy walk. Much better photograph at the trig. TFTC.

Day 3 in our road trip west, we woke up in Hay this morning and the weather was finally starting to clear, we were long over due for getting someone of our gear and tent back to its regular dry and comfortable state. A lovely but very flat part of the world
Stopped in Ouyen for some fuel and some lunch. And a nice little drive along next to the lake.

Heading to Mildura with Caravan in tow we stopped and stretched our legs with a short climb to the trig.

05-May-16
Found what we thought was the closest access point and then up the hill we went. A steep little pinch but got the required photo. TFTC

20-Mar-16
A quick run up the hill for a photo, and another trig point in the bag. It looks like I could have driven up here, but not sure if the locals would appreciate it.

28-Dec-15
Popped into this one on our way to Wongulla S.A. A nice quick stroll up the hill.

22-Aug-14
Mrs Beetle did the honours here and made the short trek up the hill. There were lots of other foot prints on the sandy track but considering how long since this one was found I guess they weren't from fellow cachers. Thanks.

21-Apr-14
Quick find and photo while heading home from the Mega.

Great Bakery in Town.
Approved by the 'Jeff' himself (That is the 'Mr Kennett".

03-Jun-12
The second day of our expedition out of Tassie to Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory. This was our first cache for the day after staying in Ouyen overnight. Although cold, it was a great morning with a cloudless blue sky. The short walk from the car to the trig point was very easy although there wasn't a view from this location. TFTC

02-Oct-11
WanderingAus wandered by with the WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) on day 131 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, after a couple of cold, wet and windy days in Horsham, we booked in to the Ouyen Caravan Park for the night. After setting the caravan up we went exploring, and after finding the bakery, which surprisingly was open at 3:45 PM on a Sunday, we bought an excellent afternoon tea, then headed off to find all the caches and trigs in Ouyen.

After finding GC1WE2K Visiting Mum by Honeysucker we drove to the top of a sandy track and parked right next to this trig.

This one is the typical black disc on top of a steel pipe tripod. After that we'd made a clean sweep of the lot.

There is something 'nice' about the older style trigs, and this was a nice brisk climb to work off the hamburger I'd just wolfed down - not the best idea....

20-May-10
wandered around in town a few times but never came here

06-Jan-10
Like the previous finder, I have been through here many times but have kept to the main drag. Made the diversion today. Interesting type of trig.

24-Dec-09
For all my many trips passing though Ouyen, I have not been this far in and as such not seen the trig. Thanks. Albida.
