Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Mount Monster is a granitic intrusion into the surrounding limestone beds.

It is 92.3 meters above sea level and about 50 metres above the surrounding plains. Despite is humble height th esummit gives impressive views over the surrounding plains.

The trig can be accessed via awalking track that loops into a nature walk. Self guided brochures are available at the track interection.

The offical number for the survey station is 2925/2020, and the brass location disc has been substantially vandalised.

Hardly a monster hill Laughing . Not much more than a gentle walk. I didn't have this trig on my list of trigs to find on this trip, but I came here to log a GC Earthcache and a traditional cache, and saw this. "Bonus!" TFTC.

Today we visited Mt Monster as we travelled from Mt Gambier to Adelaide. Whilst there we visited the Trig Point. Four images have been added to the Gallery: our GPS in the foreground of the Trig Point; our GPS at the survey marker; and two views of the Trig Point beacon from different perspectives. Thanks for the cache.

Great views from up here! Worth a look.

Another trig point down. This one was convenient to a GC cache nearby, which was the reason why we were here. Much better views of the surrounding countryside than at the cache though Very Happy.

Was in the vincinity of this on, and figured there'd be a gca cache for it. So Here I am logging a FTF!
Almost didn't come here, but the sniff of a nearby FTF was enough to travel umpteen kms out of my way. A quick find on the other cache and a snap of the survey marker at the base with the gps.(couldnt get the camera to stand up by itself for a timershot!)
Then back down the 'Mountain' only to find at the carpark, that my keys were in fact back up the 'Mountain' somewhere.
With no phone reception, and no one answering the UHF radio, I spent the next hour to find the bloody things. So that is my caching story for this spot, apart from the fact that I've been here before looking for the previous original multi nearby too.
Thanks
