Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Best access is via Gowrie Park...just follow the signage...but for a more difficult approach you can try the Kings Road access. The latter route is for experienced walkers only as quite steep and arduous.

After deciding to bypass Minnow Falls we headed off to the Mt Roland summit. The board walk made initial progress rapid. Pace slowed when the board walk ended and the track became slippery due to recent rain. The birds in the bottlebrushes kept us company as the track headed up. The pink conglomerate and very large rocks were also very interesting. We stopped to have a chat with a bush walking couple from Deloraine who were having lunch at the 1km to go mark, the only others we saw today. As we headed across the button grass the wind become stronger and more gusty and the sky began to darken. We left our packs 250m from the base before scrambling up the last 20m to the trig. Unfortunately the hazy conditions and darkening sky reduced the view but still it was still impressive. The wind gusts were so strong that the poor GPS unit was almost horizontal when suspended from the trig tripod. Photos taken we looked around for Happy Birdies.
We started the day with hopes of finding the five caches but a realistic assessment was that a second visit to the area was more likely. To our delight we managed to complete all five and we got back to our car at 6:30pm just as the rain started to become consistent. Although very tired and sore, we were elated that we had had a very successful excursion to the Mount Roland area.
Nice walk across the buttongrass plateau along a good path. Beautiful scenery dotted with wildflowers. Slightly tricky scramble up the boulders the last few metres to the trig. Great panoramic views from the top as usual.
Since the previous physical cache here had been archived, I placed one of my own: GA5443 'Happy Birdies' close to the trig. Couldn't bear that such an iconic mountain didn't have a cache at the summit!
Pretty sore and tired by the time we got back down, but glad to have finally crossed this mountain off our list as we'd wanted to do it for years.
Many thanks for a great cache.
Apologies for the appalling photo we had to forge ahead of the rest of the party to try and fit in a visit to minnow falls. Unfortunately we left the camera with them so were left with only an old phone.
Nice day out all in all. Lovely weather. We came up the Kings road route and returned, after Minnow, via the O'neils track with some car shuffling between the two.
It's a nice rewarding track up the Kings road and it was quite nice to enjoy the views and take a little time. Normally this being the way down after the Triple Top we tend to miss most of the views in favour of images of ice cream and burgers.
The O'neils track is very easy and makes the trip to the top of Roland accessible to many more people after all the hard work that has been put in. On both tracks the sudden growth since the fires a couple of years ago offers very welcome shade for most of the journey.
Always worth a visit, if you live in north Tassie you should pop up and try to spot your house.

I'll claim a virtual find on a virtual cache til I can revisit
Weather was fantastic and the views were unbelievable
It was fairly windy and chilly so we took some photos and headed off pretty quickly but a very enjoyable walk.
Thanks GCA for the cache
For those who seek TrigPoints and standard geocaches, they can consider themselves lucky and can claim a "two for one" deal provided they meet the requirements of both cache listings.
placed right at the Trig beacon.
