Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Okay...do not attempt this one in the wet. I got saturated walking through the waist- high shrubs to get to it.

Found on our 4WDing/camping adventure. Not the easiest trig to access but we battled our way through the bushes and found it on its side.

As it has been nearly five years since this Trig Point has been found, we decide that as we were at Mallacoota today, we would try to find it. After parking near the boat ramp, we wandered through the small trees and along the edge of the golf course before getting to some scrub. This was harder to negoatiate but after a short time we got to GZ. We found a galvanised post painted red on top (although the red was quite faded). Nearby were the remains of the beacon: the support post and the vanes. These had fallen when the structure of the beacon failed.Although we could not find the survey marker button (buried under sand?), our GPS indicated that GZ was very close to the galvanised iron post with the red paint on top. Three photos have been added to the Gallery, Thaks for the cache.

A dense scrub bash to get to this one, from both the point end and the golf course. Albida.

As the previous cacher mentioned, a bit of bush bashing is required for a couple of hundred metres but that's it. Start by walking up the third fairway, provided no golfers are around. The trig point looks like it needs a bit of TLC.

Crikey !! Another trig point so close to civilisation (and a geocache) that hasn't been logged !! Very Happy

Maybe it's because the intervening 250 metres from the geocache to the trig is a jungle Surprised
But a bit of bushbashing wasn't going to stop this intrepid Trig-finder.

It is located on a low headland just behind the fourth green of the local golf course.
The headland is overgrown with the usual seaside dwelling species you find in the dunes behind the beaches.
A lot of dead and windblown trees make the going a bit tougher, but the ground is generally sandy underfoot.
Approaching this cache from the rocky foreshore is likely blocked by cliffs.

It took just over 20 minutes to get from the boat ramp to the trig for me today.
There are some views for those who care to wander a few extra metres through the trees.

The trigpoint itself is broken and rusted but still identifiable as such. No name could be discerned though.
