Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Access: The simplest way to visit this Trig is to start at Hinze Dam (Advancetown Lake) at either the western or eastern boat ramp. The dam and recreation facilities are open to the public seven days a week, from 5:30am to 6:30pm (September – April) and 6:00am to 5:30pm (May – August). Paddle your way to S 028° 03.966' E 153° 17.182' then begin walking up the ridge line towards GZ. See topo image in the gallery. You will need some map reading and off-track navigation skills. You will see parts of an old fence most of the way up which conveniently follows high point of the ridge which is the line you want to follow. The Trig feature is a galvanised iron pole set in concrete in the ground. When returning to the shore do not follow a straight line to the waypoint or you will end up on the wrong side of a gully. Return the way you came, down the ridge line.
Allow 4 hours.

Logs
I started at the western boat ramp. It took about an hour to reach the landing coordinates. A pleasant breeze accompanied me. I pulled the kayak up on land and made myself some lunch. Very peaceful here today. I then began walking up a ridge line that curved around to GZ. An old fence runs along most of this route. Once at GZ I found the usual galvanised iron witness post. This is a common find with old trigs in this part of Queensland. West and north of the greater Brisbane area this changes. I had a look around the area to see if I could find anything else but didn't. I may or may not have camped near GZ. The survey notes said "Flat topped knoll on end of spur. Sufficient room for camping." That's an invitation in my opinion!
A three hour round-trip. I'll definitely return to this area. There's a bunch of GC caches on my list to find here. Thanks for the cache
