Description

Woronora TS4858F

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Woronora.

Serial number is: TS4858F.

Last Inspected on: July, 1995.

Elevation is: 282 metres.

This Concrete Pillar used to have a steel tripod with mast and vanes over the top of it, this was dismantled in July 1995.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Been here several times and today while doing maintenance for GCN311, decided to do this TP.

Pretty much the same experience as my log for the tower. I was hoping to find an old pin, but the remnants of the 3 legs of the old trig (which I have not seen in NSW) suggests that the central point is beneath the current trig. Nice walk up.

Found during a bushwalk from Waterfall to Heathcote - did this sidetrip to find the trigs. Great day out.

An easy find while coming up for the GC Traditional.

Two trigpoints for the price of one. Plus a great view! What more do you want? Smile

Quick walk up a steep hill, GeoDirk and HanorahTLG are only coming because I promised them rice crackers at the top!

I'd come to look for High Point and found this very interesting marker.

1235 While trying to find High Point I obviously found this Trig Point.
Found a friendly spider close by.

A nice walk up from the road and spotted it easily. Highest point in Sydney.

A nice walk from Heathcote Station on a beautiful if somewhat hot Spring day. Sadly the mast and vanes have long gone although the anchor points for the three stay cables are still there.
The pedestal sit exactly in the middle of the remnants of the original cairn the circular outline can still be clearly seen.
There is cache right there but I could not be bothered to look for it as it is a micro (a film can at that) in fact I forgot all about it until 50 metres down the track on the way back and it took all of a micro second to decide it was not worth the trouble!

Stopped by here today whilst doing a long bushwalk around Heathcote NP. Beautiful day for walking.

Cheers,
Michael.

Found this easily today as we were there finding the other very nearby GC cache. Lovely views on the way up but none from the trig itself. Saw 2 wallabies on the track on the way up but they were too quick disappearing into the thick bush to catch on camera!

This has been my closest to home GCA for some time, but a spare hour on a Saturday afternoon meant I finally got out to visit this spot again. I've been here before, but wasn't aware of GCA caches back then. Nice walk though!
best wishes,
Wal

A bit of a slog in the heat and humidity that is November in Sydney. Was in the area doing some recon for a NPWS visit to the region next week.

No views from the trig as the trees have overgrown, but plenty to see from a nearby peak or two.

A great location and an amazing National park. Oh to be able to cache in it.

Not a hard to find cache but you have to make a walk of about 15 minutes wich involves some climbing. You can park of the main road to Woronora dam and walk in from there.Note that the road to Woronora dam is opened from 10 am till 6 pm!! A beautiful view towards Sydney on a clear day. And as a surprise, there is a real cache very nearby!!
