Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA1045 - 17:30; Arrived in South Australia on the early morning flight with Sol de lune. After being picked up by albida33 and fitzy_1965, we headed north towards Port Wakefield on our 5 day mission around South Australia, with a major focus on collecting the geoart around the Yorke Peninsula. We had arrived on the peninsula and had a successful day caching along the side roads. Stopped on the way back to Yorketown and our accommodation to collect this trig. Sdl and albida had logged it on an earlier visit, so it was up to f65 to make our way over through the scrub to the trig. Made our way over and spotted the trig from some distance as we closed in. At the end of a good days caching and after the sun had set, the challenge was to scale a fence with two strands of barbed wire. Mrs y'stassie achieved this in order to get to the Coonarie Hill Trig Point. Two photos have beeen added to the Gallery: the top part of the beacon; our GPS at the base of one of the legs of the tripod on which the beacon is mounted.

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and One of
Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.
Albida

17-Nov-12
Had transport duty for the Bleden Venturers who were doing a Marine Litter Survey camp at Gleesons Landing. This gave me a day and a half to get some caches on the bottom end of the Peninsula that need a walk in and I had been leaving for later - well now was later

Nice walk into the scrub. TFTC.

142. Heading down around the sole of SA's boot to clean out some caches. This is one of the legal finds around. It may look like private property but the pastureland next door makes us think it's not.

TFTC and the cheese.

I visited the area today, but was immediately put off by it being 80 meters beyond a fence. Perhaps next time I'll just pretend I never saw the fence! Smile
