Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

This Trig Point has been removed, but a location plate off to the side has been fixed to a post to identify it's location.

I would like to keep this Trip Point as it's an easy driveby with a great view over the Adelaide plains.  Waterlogged 2/12/09

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Been a while since this one was found. Had to did around a bit near the stake. Must have looked weird...or maybe no one even noticed me?

Glorious sunny day; nice view above Glenelg.

During my trip here achieved 4x FTF's (GA), picked up a dozen moveables; plus the highlight being my D/T grid (GC) now filled after finding one up a tree.
Huge THANK YOU to local cachers: J&J, Laighside Legends, andrewbt, Atreyu1982, Blackadders, OzGrumpy, weredunn4 & Jacknor whom all contributed towards my success.
What an adventure, visiting: Adelaide CBD, Showground, Glenelg & Seacliff Holdfast Bay, McLaren Vale, Onkaparinga, Hawthorndene, Carrick Hill, Kensington Park, Teringie, Prospect, Elizabeth, Port Adelaide, Garden Island, Gawler, Nuriootpa Barrossa; and an impressive collection of planes at Greenock Aviation Museum!

Have driven past so often, but at last here with the time to literally dig this one up.

Enjoyed seeing the text on the marker appear as I scraped away with bit of stick I found within arm's reach of GZ. And amazed at the number of insects I disturbed is a very small area.

All round very satisfying.

TFTC GCA.

Drove to GZ then just kept on going until I could turn around and make my way back to the area and find a suitable parking location a short walk away! Damn inconvenient spot for a trig point!
It was a reasonably easy find of the faded blue posts and star dropper at GZ though once I got there.
Cheers

After driving past this spot fairly often over the last 5+ years, we've finally stopped and logged our 'find'.

There's not much left to find here, but at least two of the original tree tripod legs are marked with treated pine posts. The posts used to be painted blue, but now only traces of the paint remain.

Awesome views from this spot, but the traffic is constant and right in your face.

We found this marker on our way into Adelaide. We could not find the brass button. There is a beautiful 360 degree view from this point. Getting back on to the highway can be a little hairy.

10-Jul-11
Found the survey marker post admist the cold wind. I can see why they put a trig up here with suck good views off into the distance.

Yep, there are two plaques indicating survey markers in two different places, but neither are present. The locals must be souveniring them. Busy intersection here...

07-Jan-10

After a bit of schooling at the nearby TAFE a short detour and search found the Survey marker tag.
As the structure should be partly on the road, it has been replaced with a post and metal info plate. See attached photo.
