Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We were travelling towards Strathalbyn when we saw this trig point in the paddock. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie at the fence with the trig point in the background; and a closer view of the trig point. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

I was able to get a tad closer to this than the road, as someone was working on the tanks and he allowed me to go to the back fence of that area to take a photograph. TFTC.

Like most others, a nearby fence line was as close as I could get to GZ
Cheers

It's always nice to find a listing on GCA that's still a dragonZone virgin. Angas is about to accept some Minotaur lovin.

Good to see a trig reasonably close to the road and still in good condition.

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.

Yep, in the middle of the paddock, and as the GPS says, only 251 metres away.

One of many many trigs found by Albida and myself while on our 2 week trip to, and around South Austrlia.

Thanks for yet another trig.....

It is in the middle of the paddock but only 250 metres away.

Google Maps showed Angas Trig on a small reserve (with no obvious access) about 200 metres into a paddock. Dashed across the stubble for a quick photo with Lake Alexandrina and the Coorong in the distance.
