Description

Pound TS3789

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Pound.

Serial number is: TS3789.

Last inspected on: August 22, 1979.

Elevation is: 135 meters.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

26-Jul-20
headed out with Outdoornut22 to bag a few quick trigs on a very rainy day but we needed to get out of the house. a quick park and took the photo over the gap in the hedge

26-Jul-20
While it was bucketing down with rain today both myself and Sophoutloud needed a good excuse to get out of the house, we plotted some more urban trigs that were close to road ways so we didn't have to spend to much time out in the rain. found this one nice and easy glad it was a Sunday because I wouldn't want to be taking photos through the hedge if there were kids around. this looks like a nice well kept old one Clan MinotaurClan Minotaur

On an extremely hot sickly day there was not much else to do besides computer or the box so I went for a drive & completed roadside virtual & trigs – this was 1 of them in the greater area.
Being Christmas holidays, it was a great time to pull up & take the shots – many thanks Clan GriffinClan Griffin

A great day of caching from Richmond to Mt Victoria. Weather was perfect (a little hot later on) and mosty caches were in good condition. Great to see this many GCA caches around here. Easy trig in an unusual location!

As mentioned on the Waymark trig page, I have been past here MANY times, and first took photos back in 1983 (or 1984) when I was walking past, on my way to the Grose Valley, and up through to Wentworth Falls (all in one walk, after being to PGR8, and on my way to PGR7). I had thought I had logged this one already, but it was Comleroy, which I had again rephotographed a few years ago.
Stopped @ 1020, and took a few photos before moving on to the geocaching Event at Bathurst.
Lovely to see such a well preserved wooden trig around.

Out with Team Merlin finding a few local GA trigs. Photo captured and onto the next.

24-Feb-16
Out with JJCC doing a cache run around the area picking up two GC traditional caches, six GA trigs plus another two GA DNFs. Parking the car in the main parking area for the school, we felt a little uncomfortable taking pictures near the school...but luckily everyone was indoors at the time of our visit. With a photo of the trig in hand, we proceeded on our adventures.

One of two Trig points log on my short round trip drive this afternoon. Wasn't expecting to find it on school grounds. Luckily school for the day was finished and the pick up zone vacated. So is was an easy stroll onto the grounds to get the happy snap.

A smart phone is just the go for the job - the rear camera for the target and at the same time the front camera snaps me taking the photo and inserts it as a stamp on the main photo

Wow.....in a school yard!! Was a little concern when I pulled up, however there was no-one around and I soon had the happy snap I needed.

02-Oct-14
A easy one to find. Made easier with no school kids around to make this difficult.

26-Jun-13
Oh, dear, the 'mushroom lurking outside school grounds ... thankfully no students within sight for the quick run for photo shots.

18-Jul-12
We stopped for me to log this trig while on the way back from Colo, doing the GC cache, Upper Colo Reserve. Unfortunately the sun was in a bad position while I took the photo. Thankfully the students weren't coming out of school when we arrived.

Very easy to find on a sunny Sunday afternoon. No one was anywhere near the school, so we could pull up almost next to this one to take the photos.

29-May-11
What a great trig. Must be a good story for the school kids

28-May-11
Third trig on a morning over the mountains on the Bandit 1250. School anyone?

19-Feb-11
I'd read about this one being in a school so I brought along a schoolboy for the task! Out 10th trig find on a hot Feb Saturday. The geoboy went in and did the duties - some interesting plaques. We can confirm the name of this trig is 'Pound' so will update the description. He was amused by the sign which said if you defaced 'Pound' you'd be fined "Ten Pounds".

23-Dec-10
Literally drove past this one one the way out to Bathurst for Christmas. Shell tried a few photos without getting out of the car but then had to get out.

I haven't seen one in the front garden of a school before.

Nurry Area Trip
Bell's Line of Road
Kurmond, NSW

Knowing that all NSW schools were already enjoying their Christmas holidays, I had no worries in driving the GeoBuru right up to the school fence. And, sure enough, there was the white metal trig sitting right in the middle of the school yard, very visible and easy to photograph!

I wouldn't recommend trying to visit and take photos during normal school hours. During the school term, it might be wiser to wait for for later afternoons, early evenings or weekends.

Photo will be uploaded in about an hour or so.

19-Nov-10
This trig is inside a school yard so I decided not to verture in, just took a picture from the other side of the fence.

Tks .... Geocaching Australia .... GazMag

17-Nov-10
A simple DB Trig just on the wrong side of a school fence but very simple to photo from the road. Just make sure there are no kids in the area or you may get arrested for harassing the little ones! Edited to reflect it's true difficulty. Heading back toward Richmond after a good caching around Kurrajong.

24-Apr-10
Couldn't get to close to this one. Found whilst on an Oberon blitz

24-Apr-10
Upin Oberon with Deputy Dog and SherpaNT for the Oberon event and a caching blitz in the region.
The sign was confusing as it suggested walkers were welcome but there was then a no unauthorised entry sign just past the gate???
Grabbed a pick from the road where the trig is just visible.

14-Mar-10
Took the photo from outside the school grounds.

23-Sep-09
went up to this trig point this morning just after all the kids went into school. this one is so old it has a sign on it stating damiging this Trig station shall be fined Ten Pounds.
Kids waved at me thru the windows "Wonder wot the funny man is doing?"
Thanks Acko
